[Q] Android rom question - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

OK semi stupid question about Android roms. Is there one where you don't have to slide down to answer calls? I keep the phone in my pocket when it rings, I go to answer it most of the time it answers itself. Don't know if there one that has slide left to right like the Iphone or others.

CM7 roms slide left to right to answer, I think it's only Sense and MIUI that slide down to answer, but I could be wrong. But I know that CM7 has the sliding tabs to answer/reject like on the lockscreen.

the easiest way to go about this would be to download a lockscreen app from the market. there is a really great app called lock 2.0 which will allow you to do what you want. also you can add custom sounds if you like. there is also 1 called lockbot pro (what im using now) which has many different lockscreen styles like iphone, hero, eclair, froyo, x10 & galaxy. you can create many different lockscreens by changing the background around and a setting that will go through your default lockscreens you choose so you get a different lockscreen each time..i find it pretty cool. there is a free version as well but not as many features. hope this helps out.

but as far as I can remember, these apps don't change the incoming call screen, which is the real benefit of horizontal slide

i had to re-read that because i wasn't sure what you was talking about at 1st. your 100% right though, i must of missed the part about incoming calls the 1st time i read it.

Simple, Just get a protective case for it or sleeve or something. The screen is capacitive so only responses to touch from your fingers (not pressure but touch) so aslong as there is something covering screen it wont unlock.

as stated earlier CM7 slide left and right, but if you dont want to use CM7 and like the rom your on, get go launcher[FREE], launcher pro, ADW launcher ... i think each has a different answer button

If there is A rom that u like u can use this application to get rid of the slidedown to answer (EZanswer) http://www.4shared.com/file/MhGQjhuO/EZanswer_1400.htm tell me about the result

I'm not sure about your phone, but mine is so responsive that it feels my finger through the protective cover I always demonstrate this to my friends by unlocking my device (whether vertically in android or horizontally in WinMo) through the cover
that's why it's a problem, we either need a horizontal answer app (easy) or get a thicker cover, which makes a barely-pocketable phone impossible to fit in pockets, unless you're one of those who wear baggy pants with huge pockets.

use the pattern unlock screen Miui has loads if different lock screens

[Q] vanilla unlock screen ?

let's hope this is the correct place to post this
I got the international galaxy S and I really hated the Samsung unlock screen
is it possible to replace it with the vanilla stock one ? and how ?
I use launcher pro so I don't mind losing touchwiz anyway
I'm running on a rooted device
and thank you
I am very curious about this too.
Would really like to have the stock unlock screen that also has the 'silent mode' option when you swipe from right to left instead.
seems like either nobody knows or nobody cared to try it
there are programs to change the lock screen , but nothing is like the real thing
Truth to be told you have 2 options.
1. Use samsungs lock screen, it has missed call/sms/blah notifications on it, and also music player controls.
2. Use pattern lock, it's the same as stock then.
I am using samsung's lock screen now , so that's not an alternative option XD
but I'd like to have the stock one .. love it >.<
and pattern lock .. it's awful trying to unlock it while driving [tried it XD]
as far as i know, widgetlocker lets you unlock your screen with vanilla sliders!
http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/entertainment/widgetlocker-lockscreen_hxov.html
It has other features like widgets on your lock screen, sounds like a promising app, you should try it out and see if it fits your needs!

I tried it , but what bothered me is that you can't lift the unlock slider upward (the real one is kinda higher) and what was more annoying is you can edit the widgets from the lock screen , meaning you just by mistake keep on holding a widget and it moves
again , here I don't just want the look , I actually wanted to see if it's possible to change the apk , switch it from the touchwiz to the real stock apk file (if it exists)
You can switch from the Widget Locker unlock slider to the standard Android one in the settings, but you lose a line of widget/shortcut space. You can also make the unlock slider the Sense or iPhone one if that's your thing. You can also disable editing widgets while locked.
Widget Locker is worth the purchase really, it's cheap and does what you want.

Pocketshield a new experience-MUST HAVE APP

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmAGKoxubNc
Judging by the video this looks like a must have app on the hd2. i love the swiping the whole lockscreen effect .a choice of different skins available interchangebale backgrounds pics also the ability to vreate your own on the website THIS IS A NEW EXPERIENCE im looking to purchase this app before i do can anyone recommend it? if they tried it are there any negatives except the price? tHanks All
When I first got my Touch Pro2, my problem was locking it. I was looking at PocketShield, but in all honesty, there are other great [free] lockscreens such as TouchLockPro, S2U2, (don't know if it's still around) ThrottleLock.
I used TouchLockPro on my TP2, and I loved it, especially since the developer actually utilized the zoombar as an unlock mechanism. However, it has other features that are compatible for the HD2: Proximity Sensor, Light Sensor, Hardware Button Combinations, etc.
However, if PocketShield has a trial version, I advise you to try before you buy, especially since it's $15 (USD)!
thanks you make a valid point.i will trial the product before making purchase..has any of the other programs you mentioned have the feature to unlock by swiping the whole lockscreen?

Unfortunately, no.
TouchLockPro doesn't even have a UI to unlock; you will only know it is locked if there is a thin, solid bar (the color of the bar is customizable) at the top of the screen or if you use the BattClock (a box with the battery percentage and the clock), which changes color. The lack of a UI is what makes this lock very "lite".
S2U2 is an iPhone-style lock, though there are many skins/themes that can be found here on XDA to make it look less like the iPhone.
ThrottleLock, which I have never tried, is an Android-style pattern lockscreen -- you make your own pattern (connecting the dots on a grid) to unlock it.
I use Pocketshield about 1year and its super program i can recomande it..

I've been using PocketShield for a while. It is an excellent program. The Pin Locking actually works, and is easy to use. It has several other very useful features to customize the way it works.
I wouldn't be without it now. It's pretty cheap, too.
it has a 15day trial which im currently into! i think its a fantastic app. a must have!!
I also use pocketshield for a couple of months.
Works as it should. No problems
Maybe more nice themes is something to be wanted
is there a way you can upload more themes to it?
i use pocketshield & i highly recommend it. i actually PAID for it, and i never buy apps unless theyre that awesome. i do think it needs more themes though. but you can change the background pic, so its not that big a deal.
This lock screen looks great, seems smoother than S2U2 in the unlock animation.
I definitely want it, but $10 seems WAY too much for a lock screen.
great app
I used S2U2 before but since a few months I switched to Pocketshield. I can say one thing : it's worth the money for sure.
Easy to use and to customize.
Nice skins.
All the customization I did is working perfectly (e.g. unlocking exceptions, application permissions,...)
There are regularly updates and the lock screen gets more and more developed too (more information).
definately feels alot smoother than s2u2 plus other features too. tbh i removed s2u2 because i didnt like the apple iphone aspect of it rather keeo it original..finally agree with price being a issue
I have also tried PocketShield and although it is attractive, I find that its "application exception" is pretty buggy. "Application exception" allows you to specify applications that you do not want to lock the screen, e.g. music player. I find that it will attempt to lock the screen then try to unlock it, which seems to cause some undesirable effect, like freezing the phone.
S2U2 also has this feature and works a lot better as it will not lock the screen at all for applications listed.
I do like the vertical swipe feature of PocketShield which is a lot easier to apply than the iPhone style sideway swipe. Unfortunately this one problem stops me from using it.
I think I will give this a try. Been using s2u2 without complaint, but always looking for something new. If you can just swipe the screen, then that would be an added bonus.
im currently using it right now. trial version though. im having mixed emotions about it though. will still try it for a few more days. it has a lot of nice skins and is very easy to use... but im still hesitant getting it though.
anyone know how to disable the notifications popups? apparently pocketshield enables them and I have never used them.
i totaly forgot this one.. looks like it got amazing now
really thinking about buying it this time..
nrfitchett4,
have you tried to alter the notifications option in settings?
I also used it for a couple of time and paid for it. My problem was the following: appointments haven't updated properly on the PS-lockscreen and so I threw it away for now. Will try again later.

lockscreen unlocker

Hello desire community,
I just though of an idea. I like the look of the lock screen on sense, but i miss the option to have two sliders (one to unlock, one to silence). What is someone could build a slider that can slide up and down, plus has a slider point in the middle that can slide either left or right. I have attached an example but I am not a good artist so I hope you can understand what it means.
+1, that would be neat
I thought so to but:
1) I don't know how to program that
2) I can't even draw it very well
Like WidgetLocker, perhaps?
http://www.appbrain.com/app/widgetlocker-lockscreen/com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker
Moved to themes and apps
I have widget locker. I was thinking like the rotory slider but with one "slider" in the middle and four directions to slide.
This is what he wants except the places where it fades he wants it to rotate, and i agree would be cool.
Edit: this as in dragging up, and down, and rotationg side to side, would give it 4 ways to move instead of just one, and would take full effect of the possibilities of the HTC design...
Exactly I could imagine using up for dailer, down unlock, left mms, and right ringer. If it is in widgetlocker they could be customized
That's a really nice idea, i'd love to see such a feature.
Nice idea but I can imagine the amount of unwanted actions in pocket etc.

Acer Ring, love it or hate it?

Before trying out some ICS ROMs, my only experience with the acer ring was from using the Iconia Touchbook. When i first heard acer was bringing the ring to android i was pretty excited, and i thought it would add some great functionality.
however, after i flashed a ROM containing it, i became annoyed with it very quickly. while i enjoyed having a way to access volume onscreen, the whole thing was just too obtrusive. it was easier just to use the hardware buttons. the only other thing i could think of to use the ring for was as a way to launch overskreen or aircalc from anywhere, but, lets face it, hitting home, opening an app on your center homescreen, and returning to what you were doing isn't that big of a deal.
also, the acer ring comes bundles with the acer lockscreen, and i really don't enjoy that. i actually greatly prefer the honeycomb lockscreen to the stock ICS one, i think the camera-launch from the homescreen is kinda pointless on a tablet, but i can live with it. the acer lockscreen, however, is gaudy, and i don't WANT to have to choose 4 apps to put on my lockscreen.
So, now that i got my personal feelings out of the way, I would like to year what you guys think.
Is the Acer Ring cool or annoying? do you like the lockscreen that comes with it? if so why? and have you actually tried it, or are these just your initial impressions?
Ehhh... eye candy. Also, considering the drop in performance vs returns..
Ok, so you can hit a bookmark from the lockscreen. Tab unlocks. Browser opens.
Nice feature. Sort of defeats the purpose of having a lockscreen don't you think?
What's nice, is that it is so darn easy to modify in the apk! As far as colors and such. Much easier than mucking around in the systemUI. Makes for a nice lock ring.
Just saying....
I like it and it has no impact on performance. I compaired with ring and without ring.
You can easely dissable it in settings.
If you don't want any feature of the ring and lock screen ring just two words need to be changed in build.prop
Enabled to disabled.
Acer shell mode and Acer shell contact mode.
That simple.
If you want you can discuss every app on a rom.
So for me yes , ones you are used to it its very easy.
Its not only for your bookmarks but if you put in the ring your favorite apps you get really fast access to them.
Everybody wants a folder orginazer but this ring combined with apinap you are set.
And yes it looks cool.
I use it every time now.
I have absolutely no use for it, but then again, I see no reason to hate it either. I mean, you can just ignore it if you don't like it.
it was one of my favorite features of the a200 3.2.1 port, but after running that for a while i simply dont care about it. its inclusion in a rom isnt a deal breaker for me either way, as it doesnt effect performance and it doesnt hurt anything being there.
the ring
I disabled it, but I like the lock screen. I've been using ics on my a500 for a few days and have the apps I would open anyway on the lock screen ring.
Wizz bar does what the ring does, and is MUCH better. I hate skins, all they do is disable and cause incompatibility. Case in point: acer's ring and Samsung's similar thing cause problems for Wizz bar.
I just picked up the A500 today. I played with the A200 a bit and the lock screen kinda reminds me of the AOKP roms a bit with the lockscreen. It's gonna be interesting to see what all we can do with it theme wise. It seems to add way more compared to the AOSP builds I've been theming on me nexus.
I like the lock screen ring for the purpose of being able to go straight to the apps I use the most. Also, it is nice to be able to change volume from inside ICS. I just have a small preference to using the UI for volume. If I were to have a complaint, it would be that the Ring can only access 'local' bookmarks and not those from my Google account that I have synced.

Why not just change them to local ones you setup the ring bookmarks.
I like it, but then again I love Sense on the HTC devices. Plain old Android gets boring after a while.

Exactly the same for me
I like it but wish I could do more with it. its cool eye candy to show off with but most of the time I don't use it.
I love it. eye candy and functional. Doesn't take away too much from the experience. I do wish there was a finger gesture to bring it up though, instead of the button at the bottom. Perhaps there's an app out there that can run in the background and bring the ring up when a 5-finger gesture is used?

I do have some, but I would prefer to have all my bookmarks synced between machines. Sites I visit more I have added to local, but it would be nice if I didn't have to. In retrospect, I think I have an understanding as to why they don't. It isn't a deal breaker, just my opinion.
It's a bit of fun, but not that useful...
...Mainly because I use Dolphin as my browser. If there was a way to make my bookmarks from Dolphin available to the Ring, I might still use it. But as it is? Turned it off...

I just updated my A501 to ICS and looking for a way to configure the normal Acer lock ring. Is there a way to add some items to the lock and the camera?
I use the lock ring functionality every day. Very convenient to jump straight to email (or whatever your top apps are) when unlocking the tab. I don't use the ring much once in UI after unlock but I like the functionality. Yes, it's nice eye candy also.
I love it because my main apps that I use are on there so its very easy to get to the apps I need. I don't install a from if it doesn't have the ring but I can see why some people wouldn't like it.
I like it but I hate how it doesn't show gmail linked bookmarks, only local. Is there a way to have the bookmarks on both local and my account so that I can use the links on my other devices while having them show in the ring?

HTC Confirmed - Cannot change/remove lock screen icons

cliff notes: you cant change the lock screen icons or remove them at all.
so it seems the biggest gripe i have with this phone, albeit, not a huge gripe.....
you cannot pick and choose which icons show up on your lock screen tray. it reflects what you have in your unlocked home screen tray.
so if you dont want any icons in your lock screen, then you have to remove them from your homescreen tray.
i have seen many videos of other HTC phones that you can personalize the lock screen, however, on the 816 you do not even have that subfolder for lock screen personalization.
i cannot even remember the last time that i wasnt able to customize the lock screen with whatever icons i wanted to show up or none at all (which is my preference). I guess LG is a little more flexible about this one than HTC.
it has been confirmed per HTC online chat.
do keep in mind, i have no plans on rooting or running a customer rom, nor do i want to hear anyone saying i should, because you're wasting your time.
this isnt something i should have to hack my phone for or to install a launcher or separate lock screen app to do this.
this phone is limited in storage and i shouldnt have to load it up with this crap.
Thread cleaned. People argue over the stupidest stuff on the internet. Everybody take a breather and let it go.
Customization on stock HTC ROMs has gone backwards for years. I've been an HTC user for almost four years and remember when lockscreen shortcuts could be changed, but they've been unchangable separately from the tray since Sense 4. So, it's not just this phone. And I agree it is a step backwards although I think removing skins was a step backwards in customizing HTC phones too. But, I guess that's their choice.
I tried to find a way to remove them, but the only option would be to remove them from the launcher and then use a different launcher which you don't want to do.
If you had wanted to add an app without running a custom launcher or lockscreen, you could enable widgets on the lockscreen. On my HTC One, you go to Settings, Security, Enable lock screen widgets (I'm sure yours is similar). You could then add a widget to whatever app you want (assuming one is available).
Thanks for cleaning up the thread, it certainly needed it. Also thanks for actually giving an adult type response. These responses is what you should look for in a forum not the ones that were deleted from this thread.
the HTC phones I had were before sense 4, I've been on an lg phone kick lately and they've been great. But I came across the 816 phablet and it seems exactly like what I wanted. This issue is a very small one and won't cause me much frustration other than the fact that I don't want them there. But I do use them because they are there, but my preference is that they were not.
OK, this isn't really for OP because he doesn't want to root but for anyone else that wants to use different apps on the lock screen...
Install the Xtended Settings module for Xposed. That will allow you to accomplish what OP wanted. Xtended Settings along with Sense6 Toolbox will allow you to change EVERY DAMNED THING on your Desire 816. And by everything I honestly mean it. I don't think I've found a color or setting that couldn't be changed.
Make sure you have a backup before you play around with things though because there is a lot and if you just play with it and test different things you might forget how to set it back.

Nice find. I've heard of Sense 6 Toolbox but not Xtended settings. It's unfortunate that rooting is the only way to change things.
will it let me get rid of the battery saver mode notification icon?
