Does the Fascinate still suffer from Missed calls? - Fascinate General

I am looking to get a Fascinate but im semi new to Smart Phones. Ive heard that the phone suffers from Missed calls all the time. Not sure if this is has been resolved or not but would like to know before grabbing one.

Mine does build date 9/10 Can repeat after 1 hour letting it sit Idle it will not ring
My sons build date of phone 3/11 I can not get his to miss calls
His is a great phone
At first I thought it was a software Only problem. But if that were tru than all phones would do it
My sons you can leave it sit unused over night and call it in the Moring and it rings
I can leave mine 1 hour and it will not ring
So I guess it depends on phone.Samsung is working to have fix released by end of month But you know how rumors go.
I paid 112.00 for a fascinate off eBay for my son and it was a great deal
Does not have the missed call bug
So if you get one make sure it is a newer build date

After moving to the ED09 radio my missed calls went away. Used it on ComRom 2.1 and now CM7.

I'm on ec09 & the latest cm7 & I still have it. Odined back to stock & took all the ota's to get back to ed04 & it was worse. Called vzw tier2 support & they gave me an option to go to a droidx2 or dinc2 because sending me another fassy probably wouldn't fix it. I've spent the last 3 days researching & visiting vzw stores to get a feel for what will work best for me. My point: it is a prevalent problem that spans more than one baseband or build or os platform.

Go to corporate store and ask about getting a Charge. They are doing that right now until they fix the missed call thing.

Tried that at 2 different ones but it was a no-go because the tier2 tech didn't list it in the notes. The last one said they'd only do 3g to 3g or 4g to 4g swaps.

I'm on the EC09 radio and I still get missed calls on occasion. It's really frustrating.

Um I've been getting a lot of missed calls and sms with EC09 a month ago but since I changed to ED04, I never had that problem. EC09 sucked ass for me.

I spoke to vzw today too and I'm getting a Droid incredible 2 sent in the next couple days. I will miss my fascinate but always nice to have something new.

I've been having the missed call thing too for a few weeks now too. Should I flash back to stock and bring it to the store? What exactly do I tell them? Or should I call tech support?

Haven't heard of the bringing it to the store option having much success, however you can call tech support and tell them about the missed call issue they should offer you a choice of some new phones. In that case yes you would have to reset it back to stock to send it back.

Taking it to the store was a huge waste of my time. The instore "tech support" (insert sarcasam here), suggested that the problem was to many apps installed...ya sure....
Called tech support and got offered the inc2 and x2, I suppose I could have pushed and tried for a charge but I wasn't feeling up to it. So I went with the inc2 since I've never tried an HTC phone and have heard of multiple issues with the x2.
Gonna miss my fascinate though.

Yeah don't you love how theybtry to blame apps and other things on the missed call issue. Especially when its a known issue. The tech person I spoke to.on the phone said my missed call issue was because I have google voice!?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk

I've had a few missed calls but they are on my Google Voice number so I'm not sure if I can blame the phone, but then again nobody calls me on my actual number so I'm going to have to pay closer attention. I just upgraded to a EC09 ROM so we shall see.

I actually got theM To swap me to a Droid charge. Niice and my boss won't chew my ass for missing his calls.

Here.
good day.

Well, this is annoying..I had the missed call problems like crazy...EA28 modem seemed to help..rarely had any..then the phones modem crapped out(no 3g)...called for a replacement..its my first replacement, so they refused to offer me a different model...
The "Like New" replacement they sent me is newer hardware version(11.something) and defiantly gets better speeds and stronger signal..But what bugs me is that I had to pay full retail price for a new fascinate in February since my old phone(a dump Samsung Rouge) crapped out on me and it was way before my upgrade came up...then I bought and 3000mah extended battery for $80...I originally tried to buy the "Certified pre-owned" Fascinate for $50 on their website, but they couldn't get it to go through, only if I were a new customer setting up a new account..so I bought the new model...now I am stuck with a Re-furbished phone...well -as long as it works properly...guess it works out regardless...as long as I don't start receiving missed calls..

I use Google Voice...(who can stand paying Verizon for their Visual Voice-mail crap)..
The only way I knew when the phone would be missing calls and was not reachable..is when Google Voice alerted me to new Voice-mails..I also have Google Voice set to send e-mail notifications to my home e-mail..I could also try calling out from the phone and it would just hang and not dial...definitely had some people mad at me for not "answering the phone" when I was supposed to be available..I was wondering what was taking them so long....so annoying when it happens and having to take the take to reboot and catch up...
I did try disabling Google Voice once..then they only way I knew the phone wasn't ringing is to check Google Voice on my laptop or e-mail...

Ota release

Just got off the phone with verizon they stated that they will be sending out the ota for the droid x and droid tomorrow and not the incredible. When I asked when it would come out they said latter this summer. Strait from tech support.

The EVO got their's because Sprint didn't want their top phone to be overshadowed by the Droid X and Droid 2. Luckily for us, our phone is very similar to the EVO so we can be sure our phone is not far behind.
Only the Droid is getting the OTA as of now. Not the Droid X
From what I've gathered though, the OTA is going to bork root. Honestly my 8/01 is working perfectly, except for twitter widget, which force closes, which is ok, because i hate twitter.
Even if it did come tomorrow i don't think I'd install for a few weeks.
Note to Verizon: it IS the end of the summer, JERKS!

funny thing is that the rep didn't make a false statement. if it doesn't come tomorrow, it will inevitably have to come later this summer. it can't come sooner this summer. or right now this summer.
But! this thread has got me thinking on some threads that I think I'll start ...
1. "i just got off the phone with verizon tech support and he spent 10 minutes trying to find a "touchscreen sensitivity calibration" menu because "it would help with my proximity sensor malfunction".
2. "i just got off the phone with verizon tech support and they told me that I had to replace my Dinc with a refurbed Droid because refurb dincs wouldn't be in stock for a month"
3. "i just got off the phone with verizon tech support for the 2nd time today and Surprise! refurb dincs are in stock and my replacement is on the way."
4. "i just got off the phone with verizon tech support and he thought froyo was frozen yogurt."
bottom line: don't listen to tech support. just tell them what to do.

What? Summer's not over until football is in full swing. More scientifically, when we reach Autumnal Equinox. September 23rd to be exact.
First regular season pats game sept. 12th!!!! THAT is the end of summer!!!!
Looks like Motorola might know a litle bit more then your Verizon rep does.

Bear in mind that VZW tech support knows just about as much as anyone on the forum... perhaps even less. They are not privy to the information, so they pass along whetever rumor they've heard. Those that are "in the know" don't deal with customers.

FYI: I read that the Droid got root after the 2.2 OTA via that new market app.
Also, I know the Incredible is already the better device but/so why update the Droid first? Makes no Sense to me. First the shipping delays, now they want us to wait while the old ass Droid gets updated. I guess VZW figures they already have gotten the Incredible users to sign new contracts, so they aren't going anywhere.
Also I sent a tweet to HTC asking 'when are we getting updated because I'm tired of running these buggy leaked ROMs.'
They tweeted:
"A small reminder that when SW updates are ready, HTC or your carrier will notify you. Unofficial software can create future issues."

If your imei gets pushed ahead, and that means you will receive froyo in 48 hours, that would mean froyo is starting today or tomorrow. That's the part I don't believe. Samsung is leaving us with a phone with broken gps, if they won't even make our phones work why would they bother with software? Samsung obviously couldn't care less.
I know samsung sold a donkey load of SGS phones, but I want to know how many of those purchasers have sold it or are otherwise dissatisfied to the point of never buying another samsung phone again. 2 of the 3 SGS owners I know have sold theirs, and the 3rd wants to
For grins & giggles I called our dealer support line and asked about this. Actually spoke with a customer service rep and a supervisor. Neither of them have heard of adding the IMEI to any list to push the FROYO update. The only push they'd heard about was the previous system update.
Of course, like others have said. You can always get someone who just doesn't know what they're talking about, but I'm gonna go with them on this. Now if you get the update and prove me wrong then that's good news for all.
Keep trying though, someday you might get your FROYO without root...
I'll stick with my rooted Vibrant.
Man just root your phone. Its not hard and its not hard to remove if you decide you don't like it.
The Pro's easily out weigh the Con's.

think.
A OTA sometimes bugs and people don't get the update.
So they call t mobile and tell them to push it to your phone. I had to do that before for 2.1.1
But I just them my phone number and they confirmed I had a galaxy s phone so they sent it within 24 hours and I got it.
They actually do this.
I also think there's a reason walmart and samsung websites say 2.2 but its going to be for everyone not just the ones who call
Just try it and say your sorry after, their starting to roll out the update, but just call and have them push it through,i have 30 hours left to receive it, they do have it because I was confirmed by samsung, then I called tmobile to tell them what I was told, so just try it and thats it

Occassionally, phone doesn't ring and missed no. not displayed

I did not come across this issue being mentioned, but if it has been, please point me in the right direction.
I have noticed the following behavior after upgrading/flashing to stock EB13, using ODIN:
On more than a few occassions, the phone does not ring or vibrate when a call comes in. Not only this, but the missed call no. does not display in the log of missed/received calls. This is quite annoying. Has anyone come across this?

Lately this has been a DAILY occurance for me and im PISSED about it. I use my phone for BUSINESS and my "business" is pretty important so I cant afford to be missing calls like this.
However I think that it has something to SPRINTS service and not the device itself.

Is there someone who can confirm if this is an issue with Sprint's service, or the firmware? I am having a hard time believing it would be Sprint's service, as I haven't read about this issue much - this does not prove anything, but still.
I use my phone for business, too, and definitely cannot afford to lose calls, and on top of that, not even have the missed calls appear in the call log.
Actually I was just talking to my wife and to be honest I don't ever rememrher evo doing that. Also I had an evo as well and I don't remember this issue as well. Maybe it is the epic then. Anyone else??

I've had that on every phone I've had with sprint in the last 10 years, sprint tech called it tower lock said if you remain for an extended period of time within one towers rande then move to another sometimes the calls won't get routed right, oddly enough when I've had it happen its not all calls, don't know if this is true or just bs from sprint, first time they had me take the battery out and wait 10 mins and it was fixed, second time they had to do something on their end and I had to update my prl
Haven't had it happen for about a year but I've since then moved and regularly travel between multiple towers
This has happened to me since I got this phone. Sometimes I can be calling my chick and she right in front of me and she won't receive 2 to 4 calls till the phone actually rings. Same on the receiving end she can be calling me and no calls come thru. She'll be all pissed telling me off why I don't answer my phone and ill check to see if its on silent and no, and no calls missed. I think it samsung cause my chick has an htc evo and this **** doesn't happen to her. This will probably be my last samsung purchase.
Same.here. my wife has an evo and she gets all her calls. I don't get them and I get the same thing as you. Why didn't you answer your phone? Cause the damn thing didn't ring!!!!!

Well at least I know I'm not the only one.... I've had issues since going to EB13, never noticed it on other base-builds tho.
Yea its started on EB13 for me too
I've had this issue for years. I always presumed is was a CDMA thing. I have email, facebook, twitter, baseball news and others using 3g to check for new items. Since all these are on different timers, they may take up a not insignificant amount of bandwidth. As CDMA sends incomming calls to voicemail if you are using 3g, I thought this was what was causing the issue. But I never turned off all updates to see if the problem went away. Might be worth trying.

By your logic, if I go back to JuiceDefender, the problem may be resolved to a point.
I've had it happen from candybar and flip regular phones and dumb phones and smartphones. This is nothing new. I've experienced it for years. My suggestion is to tell people to try calling a second time. It usually gets through then. It's not the phone, its the service or technology. The phone might be in a sleeping cycle.

QFE - Both my TP and TP2 were awful about this. Still have it happen pretty frequently with the Epic. I'm sure it's issues in the network.

Official ED01 has all the bugs of leaked froyo ROMS

Yay. I can confirm the following bugs after using OTA ED01 for a couple hours:
1) 50% time w/o signal bug still there. Still need airplane toggle after boot.
2) Browser scrolling choppy as ever.
3) Pop email client still snaps to top of list after reading each email.
4) battery issues / wakelock needs more testing
Now then, we know Samsung and VZW were not working on fixing any bugs in the last several months that they have been sitting on this code. All bugs from froyo leaks 2.5 months ago are still in there.
Seems to me there was 0 priority put on this update, since it was delivered extremely late and still chock full of bugs. My assessment is Samsung is way understaffed AND integrating bing caused some negative interactions between the companies involved. I won't buy another Samsung... and probably should move off of VZW.

I odin'd and ota'd to get the new radio and frameworks and files were compared lastnight and there is some differences in the frameworks between EC01 and ED01 so I'm gonna run themeless until I have time to port my theme over to the new frameworks. Everything looks good here... Besides battery life. I just did the ota at 9:30 this morning after about an hour **** has drained 30%. Oh well. I was using heavily, im gonna flash the debloated one and wipe bstats and what not to see if I get some improvement.

If you had display on for an hour 30% drain is normal I think.
I just read the release notes for ed01 posted by kaus... It lists some added bloat, but in many cases contradicts the op of this thread (subject to verification I guess ;-).

My wife and I have this phone. I am running EB01 Superclean and I just odin'd her phone to stock last night and upgraded to OTA ED01. So far, no time without signal bug, browser does not seem choppy, no wakelocks so far. Maybe you should odin to stock and start fresh if you have not done so already. I think that this can fix a lot of issues. No doubt that after brief testing my Superclean w/ -100 imnuts kernel is kicking the snot out of a stock ED01 froyo so far. But I always give it a week for the battery to calibrate and settle so I will report back.
i also have superclean 2.9.2 (nv). i'm not sure if i want to go back to stock and do the official ota because I finally LIKE my phone for the first time since... November? I really liked it for the first month (Oct) when I thought the OTA was due any day... but since then, not so much. but after installing superclean a week or so ago, suddenly i don't care about the ota. unless i hear from one of you more experienced gurus that it's the way to go, that is. I love that I don't have all that bloat on my phone. If i do the ota, I presume the bloat will come with it, and I've heard of people then cleaning up the phone... how is that different from what I already have? should I stay put or is there a distinct advantage to doing the ota and then cleaning it up? any advice and logic behind it would be appreciated. thanks.
Wife and I both have fasc I odin'd her back to stock took ota she so far has not been able to make calls out off and on all day she could answer tho...?? However.. What pisses me off the most is vzw dropping price and trying to sell this to everyone for mothers day like my mom needs this f/%ked up unsupported phone swindled to her."why yes madam this has the very latest software it has always been our best phone and now your kids can make you the coolest mom ever" scam scam scam or should I say spin spin spin the greatest company on the planet can you hear me now.. Ahh no cause my froyo won't make a call

Well maybe you can do the mature thing and call Verizon instead of *****ing about a problem that ONLY you are having. Or maybe you can try factory resetting it.
Don't *****, that only gets you flamed.

I did read, but after that he updated did an OTA. If he already Odined I don't see the pain in doing a reset. Doesn't hurt.
What's up with not being able to download tapatalk either?? I upgraded ota and its still in my purchased list but won't let me install..and when I search it the market doesn't find it.

Has anyone else noticed that you can't delete gmail emails after the update? I delete them and they come right back. This is even with having full 3g service and excellent reception.

Don't worry superclean in my opinion is still better. It has all the great sbrissen mods and its only got a couple very tiny bugs (even though I can't think of one)
Plus all the themes you could ever want AND ec01 themes are fine on super clean... I think I'll just chill with what I got.

New software sprint has

Sprint had a software that send them your baseband version. So if you calling in for troubleshooting on your device be careful. If the rep knows what there doing and what to look for they can mark your device damaged beyond repair

Yup.
But who cares about the baseband? It's just the modem version.
Most likely what send the info. But I tested it on my phone ko and I had the no ciq roms and it still read them.... So idk I'm one of the techs that knows what he is doing there lol

More information would be appreciated. Name of the software, how it's connecting, etc.
Only thing I know is the tool I use to check it... Its the thing that auto activates you're device so I don't know much

*cue dramatic chord* wow actually.
considering what sprints up to with their base stations, customer service improvements, and the fact that even when i worked for em 3-4 years ago, they were always updating their rms/rms+/fast/snap/fdt systems, i can't say i'm too surprised.
the leg up they go for on the other companies afterall is trying to be the first to the gate with tech.
anything our system info can tell, i'm sure they can see. kernel/rom/etc. i doubt they'd act on it unless its a store visit though. or i'd hope not anyways. it'd be strange and surprising to see the company thats the easiest on the rom community(they're the only ones who kept their mouth shut about wireless tether so far, and the easiest with 3rd party apps from the beginning) to turn on them.

They knew on my wifes Intercept two weeks ago and the tech support just asked if rom I was using was better than stock. I said yes, and he said that it s the only way to get that phone to function properly. He then took care of my issue as if it was a "non-rooted" phone.
I had my external speaker go out and took it up to the Sprint store to get the speaker replaced. The tech asked me if I rooted it, but he didn't have a problem with that.
The problem I had was that replacing the speaker screwed up the phone somehow so I had to re-flash. Meaning it wouldn't boot properly. But that is another story.

So they knew just from you calling on that rooted phone that you had a custom ROM on there? Wow, not too bad.
OK - it makes sense that a tech/repair guy at the local Sprint store might be able to tell if you've "rooted" your phone ( by the way - didn't you all Odin back to stock ? ) ; but are you saying that Sprint HQ can tell if I'm rooted/ROMed just by me calling them from my Epic ? ....... Big Brother 4 Sure ( and they prolly reading this post , too )

Sounds like you left out a lot of information:
1. How do you know this? Is this something that happened to you or is this heresay / speculation?
2. Was this done on Stock phone or one with SRF/Bonsai (with no ciq?)?

I could care less about the Intercept...that damn thing can burn in a pit...which may actually help it function better than it currently does.
Not sure if they have a system or not, but I laughed that the dude knew the only way it works is with a custom ROM. I have Ubentdroid on it and at least the capacitive buttons work now.
If you can't tell, I would not recommend the Intercept. It sucks more than the suckiest suck that ever sucked.
This all goes back to the basic common sense I have followed from day 1 with my Android phone
make sure it is 100% stock before going to Spring for any troubleshooting assistance.
I don't understand why anyone would call sprint for help, BEFORE they had done this anyways.

Sometimes its an issue that isnt a biggie, so unroot is a waste of time. With my wifes, it was that her phone stopped being recognized on Sprint service. It ended up being an account screw up.
Well this is simple, we can just create a flashable zip to simply change the baseband to display the stock one.
(Haven't done any rom developement, so I don't know where that file lies.)

EXACTLY! why take a chance? especially if you have lost/stolen protection, you don't want to give them a reason to screw you over. good to know they can figure it out over the phone as well tho. hopefully they stay content letting people root away w/ no consequence except for a voided warranty, considering all the reasons they give customers for rooting (CIQ, DRM, ect...)
