NoLed from the market is your best bet. Not too great and won't light up your softkeys. The only way to light them up is a kernel that supports BLN.

You could also use BLN control app. That's another alternative.

This.
I just rooted like 15 minutes ago. Running Mikeyinid's rom with matr1x kernel and I am stoked.
OP, don't waste time like I did. It is easy and people will help you with any trouble you have, don't hesitate. Bln is worth root alone, lol. But, voodoo and overclock capabilities to boot can't be beat.

nice change of my quote by the way .. very nice ..
thnx for the input on noled .. good u told me before only tht it drains battery .. thnx
one thing i dint like is the volume of the speaker .. coming from motorola with extra loud speakers this makes me feel m deaf .. n vibration sux as well .. but wht the heck i can live with it
I have been using no led and love it and my battery life is great. I set it to stop blinking after 5 minutes and that saves a ton of battery life. If I have been away from my phone for longer than 5 minutes I always check it anyways...of course I'm hardly ever away from it that long...I Love her...
use NoLed......i do!

Well you should have probably started here
Without rooting/flashing then you can turn your brightness all the way down, delete all your widgets, turn off data sync, and use a pure black background.
Or just root and flash Trigger or project V + the bali kernel and be amazed
Why not just root? And flash a different rom?

Let me guess......Someone told u shouldn't root or flash (t-mobile guy at the mall?) cuz u could mess ur phone up and t-mobile won't honor the warranty.
Well let me tell u something L1LK1LLERZ , you NEED to root then flash one of this ROMs on that Vibrant of yours if you wanna notice any significant battery life gain. Rooting and Flashing is pretty simple and safe on the Vibrant ,compared to my wife's HTC Glacier aka MyTouch 4g, anyways IF (big [email protected]#king IF) you are able to follow instructions precisely (common sense baby) and you could always go back to stock if you need to return ur phone to t-mobile.

I say use the XDA SuperPower app. it basically does what Juice Defender does, but it's much more simpler to configure and has most of the same features. Just search "XDA SuperPower app" on Google or the search bar. been using it for a couple of hours and it's been great with disabling and enabling my networks and whatnot.

With every electronic gadget using Lithium-ion batteries nowadays, it doesn't really matter how/when you charge it.
Some would argue to make sure to allow a full discharge from a full charge from a battery calibration point of view, so the battery meter is more accurate. It wouldn't affect the health of the battery itself either way.
Things like memory effect doesn't apply to lithium-ion. How often you charge it and how much you charge it (full or partial charge etc.) doesn't affect it much either. The only 2 things that can potential kill a lithium-ion is high temperature and letting it discharge far too low to the point that it cannot be charged up again. Note that all electronic devices will power off way before it even reaches this threshold.

I don't know, just make sure to read the instructions. I don't have a custom kernel installed so I don't really know!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
The risk of undervolting is not giving it enough power and setting that on boot so you end up not being able to get into android. Meaning you would have to flash a stock kernel with fastboot.
You only risk damage to the hardware if you overclock. That raises the operating temperature of the cpu, and thus could shorten the overall lifespan.
The risk to running a custom kernel is the same risk of running any experimental software: there could be bugs.
And of course the factory clock speed is set at the factory voltage... it just came from the factory....
And asking why Google doesn't include the option is akin to asking why it isn't rooted outta the box
xD ok i will probably do if i had then but i just dont wonna lose that awesome nexus feeling and stuff! anyway ur profile pic gave me a heart attack seems not gonna make it bad
I don't see much difference in battery life but I definitely feel a difference in heat which imo is important. I dont find myself worrying about anything happening to my n4 anymore because they're so cheap now a days that I can just buy another one or wait for the 13 version.
My phone rarely goes over 100°f

Ok i keep it straight..
Its my first Android device (The S4.)
Switching from my nokia c7 i've had this issue of alarm not going off when phone's off..
Actually i faced this problem that day when i had only 4% battery left (obviously it wasnt going to last that night)
So i turned off the phone and thought the ALARM would wake me up the next day..( as my nokia always did )
But to my surprise it didnt...
I did search for some solution on xda but no luck..
But then i saw the link of alarm working WITH PHONE OFF on the Rival HTC ONE..(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2406083)
So i was wondering whether the devs would be able to make some app..(Or refer me if theres any as i couldnt find one..)
Thanks for your precious time..
Regards.
Me
EDIT : So i was going though some more stuff on this matter and found something relevent..
Like there is a real time clock running on pc (that keeps time even when its off)..
Maybe HTC does use that to make its ONE power on ..
I think some files in the kernel can be edited for some progress on our s4 ( I am completely a noob and have no idea about kernels n all , i just read it somwhere)..
Maybe some real pro can help us out here, by studying htc one's files.. and try to make it work on some other 'SmartPhones'.
+1 to that plenty of time phone nearly dead and would love to do this if possible

The problem is that some 'smartphones" never really turn off.
My Blackberry Storm was one of those and my guess is that the previous phone you had didn't either.
If the phone is in deep sleep mode, then it can wake up.
If on the other hand, it's off, and I mean really off, there is nothing you can do.
The current crop of Android phones turn off; not go into a deep sleep.
Then how can HTC one do it..
I mean it may go to deep sleep..
But can't our s4 go to deep sleep..?

When your screen is off your phone is in deep sleep. At least should be i dont know how they did it but when you turn off android phone its off. No alarm. Maybe they have modified fly mode and altered frequencies for cpu gpu etc to be just enough to ring alarm with almost zero power consumption. But again its not off. I miss that too. Its like where to **** is my charger or hope my alarm rings

Yes. Software-based. The question is that if a 3rd party app have access to the system to create an "auto on" or if is something that needs to be manage on the OS itself. Maybe with root access?
