That depends... Did you take the official OTA update, or did you use a ROM on here?
If you used a ROM on here, did you backup?
If yes, you can restore your backup. If no, there are OTA updates here you can use to go back to an old version if you wish BUT, there's an Acer proscribed "fix" for this wifi issue. Press the reset button on the side of the device to factory reset it. Once it's restarted and sitting on the home screen, press it again. It should be fixed after the 2nd wipe.

It was an OTA update, where do I find the updates?
thanks

There are several threads in the dev section with multiple versions, not the custom ones. Go through the threads and read them properly. All the info you need to reflash is in there.
However, DO try the double reset fix first.

also try deleting the dhcp lease file under /data/misc/dhcp

I have deleted the file in /dhcp a number of times. and also tried the double and triple reset. All these fixes are very short term. I am sick and tired of dealing
with this sorry product. If I could I would have returned it ASAP. But I
am stuck with this product. All I know is that HC 3.0 worked OK.
When I upgraded to 3.1 all these WIFI issues began.
Until I get a patch from Acer, I want to go back to 3.0
I don't know how or where to get the files and info I need.
Please someone who knows let me know.
thanks again

I've already told you where to go and what to do. If you can't be bothered to go into the dev section and do some reading, that's your issue. I'm not going to spoonfeed you, put some effort into it and LEARN something.
There is a FULL TUTORIAL thread in there on backing up and restoring the OTA function for getting the 3.1 update. If you bother to read it, you'll see that it takes you all the way back to 3.0.

Short and simple:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155664

i would also check if you wifi/router firmware is up to date, also check if you have all frequencies available as per your region, f.i. add channel 12 and 13 for europ.
frequencies might be another problem due to interferences. check if you have automatique selection of frequencies selected on the router, because before anything goes on, the router and the equipment is negociating channels?
eventually try different channels to find out which works best.
and last but not least check if you have set the correct password for your wifi connection.

you need a dolorean and go at 65MPH... I don't see any solution.

Although we don't practice this, after every firmware update we are SUPPOSED to factory reset. Especially with a drastic update. This is considered drastic as we've gone from a .0 release to a .1 release.
A factory reset generally wipes the old settings out completely as well as the cache so the system can start "fresh". We're just very lazy and so the majority of us (I'm guilty as well), update and if it works, we run with it....so this has become the 'norm'.
Before you do something as drastic as go back to the old OS, how about you try a factory reset first.
If that doesn't work - then you can attempt going back.
I personally would do several things:
1a. Check router firmware to see if I'm on the newest
OR
1b. At least reboot the router. This clears upnp and any bottlenecking that's happening....and it does happen. If upnp is enabled and you have lots of PCs there can easily be thousands of ports added and open in the router and this can gum up new ip leases, etc.
2. Factory reset the device. This clears away the possibility that there's either some software creating the issue, or funky settings corrupted somehow because of the upgrade.
Good Luck.

Beat goes on

Factory reset....lost it all.........
Still no connection...
Set up a static IP and this works...........
I will have to delay further action as I don't have the time right now.
I am leaning towards flashing a ROM, but I need to do more research.
Hopefully Acer will come up with a fix.
All I hear from Tier 2 is the endless reset until it works.
Tired of their bull.
This no way to repair a major problem like this.
Thanks for your advice

Wondering if the leaked ROM is really final...

Hi all,
it has been now nearly two weeks since the rom update leaked, and still so sign of an official update on htc website.
I'm wondering if this was really the final rom version, if so i don't know why htc would wait another two weeks after the leak.
I heard that somebody got that rom from an ftp server which is used by htc to upload data before it gets released. In this case two weeks seems also way too long for a deployment.
Are there any signs of the official release? I'm curious to see whether there are any last minute changes done.
well it could do with both orange and tmobile (in the uk) need to add there custom rubbish to there phones?
I read about major improvements in speed.
BUT - I also read about weather DB issues, WiFi issues, a.o problems.
So, I am definitely going to stay put, until an official release.
I am not going to waste time on reinstalling software etc, by flashing something "maybe-this-is-a-rom-very-close-to-the-final-one"!
yeah of course the carrier updates will take more time, but im talking about the htc update for unbranded devices.
since i made the ruu update i can confirm speed updates (but not huge difference), and i can confirm that more often the browser seems to have issues when going online via wlan. connection is there, signal is there, but the browser cant open pages.
and my device actually freezed two times, i couldnt make softreset and had to take the battery out. annoying.
but overall im satisfied with the performance optimization, still i will make another update as soon as the official rom is out..
and another minor thing: updating weather information manually will result in three updates. the app will update the weather data three times in a row, even though you only pressed update once,
I've had none of those problems, just checked the weather and it seems to update just once. I did have to pull the battery a couple of times BEFORE installing this new ROM when my phone totally locked though.
two weeks?? that's wrong.
The user who uploaded it, __htc__, leaked 2.73 on the 3rd of September....5 days ago.
they release to the ftp, this allows the repair centres, factory and call centres to get it, and then they release it on the website.
yes it is the final version.
if you want it, download it now, or dont. it's up to you, but yes this is the final release and it will be up soon.
rom t-mobile
@rhedgehog hi mate this might be silly but will this update work on locked t-mobile or willi have to root said device?
ps dont slap me to hard if its been asked before lol

yeah two weeks was maybe too much. I was hoping this is not final since i have some new issues since i made the ruu update:
- peep widget updates only every 30th try. I'm trying to update the tweets and it doesn't work for about 20 times, and then somehow it works after many more tries. When i open peep app i get an error message that the service is not reachable.
- wifi has problems. many times it seems the connection is dead, when technically everything is ok.
- freezes (but i installed about 40 apps, maybe this was too much...)
- keyboard has sometimes lags. i never had ANY lags inputting text before the update.
- more force closes by 3rd party apps.
- touchflo force closes seem to occur more often also (but i had them before too so this might be the same).
- freezes when the device is in sleep mode. I was at a meeting, not doin anything with the device. Then i wanted to check the time and the display didn't power on. So the device freezed during some background process by android or any 3rd party app. I never had this problem before the update.
the good:
- yes its faster (homescreens)
- even the contacts list has LESS stutter, but stutter is still there. IPHONE 3gs is way ahead in this regard. i don't know why other lists on android are completely fluid while the contacts app list is not fluid.
- battery seems to last longer
overall the first impression was VERY good, but is somehow stained by the problems that surface after some usage time...i'm not 100% sure if the speed update was worth it...waiting for android 1.6 update, maybe this sorts some stuff out..
I'm using Modacos 2.0 rom, and I've not encountered a single one of the issues you are reporting here.
Did you wipe before installing the RUU version? If not, I suggest you give it a try. Alternatively, wipe and install Modaco.

the RUU update won't work on a branded device. You need root to install the new rom in this case.

hmm i didn't do a wipe. How can you wipe the unrooted phone manually? i thought the RUU update will wipe the phone. It explicitly says so when updating the device that all data is lost. to me this means: your phone will be wiped...

Well, Menu->Security->Factory Data Reset should do the job. To be honest though, I'd be more inclined to trust the "standard" Android way of updating your ROM than the HTC RUU process, because, as far as I'm aware, this'll be their first RUU for an Android device.
Regards,
Dave
Interestingly, the second poster here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=557628 , indicates that they had a problem with the factory data reset, but a recovery image wipe fixed it. I wonder if this related to your issues?
Even if you don't want to flash the modified recovery image permanently to your phone, you could boot it using fast boot and then wipe.
Regards,
Dave
how does it work? how can i restore a revocery image? isn't this an issue with the latest RUU update, that flashing recovery rom is not possible anymore or am i mixing things up here?
Steps 1 to 5 in this link, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4257045 , tell you what you need to do to boot the modified recovery image. Note that this doesn't flash anything to your phone - it just boots off the image you've supplied. You can permanently flash the recovery image later if you wish, but since you took the RUU root, I guess you don't want to put anything "unofficial" on your phone.
I've no idea if you having RUU'd already will prevent this, and I'm not going to RUU my phone to find out, but I doubt you would be stopped booting using fastboot.
Regards,
Dave
okay, thanks for the info!
Modaco wrote on a thread that doing the RUU update will make it nearly impossible to flash a modified recovery image.
I'm going to work with my current setup for some more days. If i see the mentioned problem reoccuring more often, i will proceed with the steps in your post.
or maybe we will see some changes (if not to the rom itself maybe at least the RUU will get an update) with the official rom update.
bye
shahpur
Just searched and you are right, you can't boot the recovery image if you have the new HBOOT from the RUU. However, the situation is not irreversible!

Hard Reset OR Flash to 1.48.. "Noobie" Conundrum!!

Hi folks,
Maybe its the same thing... but I'm not sure.
I have been having serious difficulty with some apps refusal to load and/or connect to the internet, namely Marketplace, Peep, The Channer, Speeedreader and various other 3rd party applications. I have soft reset a number of times to no avail, I even uninstalled and reinstalled all the apps (except Peep) and now Marketplace won't even open when I click on it! Very frustrating in what is turning out to be an otherwise pleasant phone experience! Opera and my Email connect to HSDPA and various wifi without issue, but the above apps don't see either wifi or my network connection at all, ever.
Its like some file got wiped out in the registry or something.
Here is the link to those woes of mine in another post (with evdincial videos): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589765&highlight=weareborg
I was going to take the plunge and do my first hard reset today until I heard that 1.48 ROM was out.
My question is, (because I think that some vital connection registry setting or something I screwed up big time with when using Total Commander) is it wiser to do a hard reset with existing firmware in the hopes my connection issues will be resolved OR should I flash to 1.48 directly??
Essentially, is flashing the same as hard resetting or will the overwriting of the files in the flashing process simply leave out what it can't see and I'm back to square one?
I hope you can understand my ramblings and would appreciate any advice!
Thanks in advance!
In my humble opinion if you have to HR anyway, you may as well move up to the latest ROM.
Good fault finding would say go with the HR and see if you can recreate the problem, but why not kill two birds...
Good luck
Thanks Gustopher, so flashing and HR are essentially the same? All the files Connection files are there in the new ROM? I'm not sure how much a new ROM "borrows" from an old ROM if you get me..
Thanks again.
wab.
Flashing a new ROM effectively performs a hard reset anyway. I've not heard of the 1.48 ROMs being worse in any way so if you're hard resetting anyway, you might as well update the ROM while you're at it.
Flashing the ROM is NOT the same as hardresetting.
If you flash a ROM, you will install a "new operating system" and everything will be wiped clean (as if it were hard resetted too)
A hard reset re-installs the CURRENT "operating system" and also wipes your device.
So... if you need to hard reset anyway, and a new ROM is out, just flash the new ROM.
The connection files (to setup GPRS automatically etc) are in the new ROM. It will work.
Thanks a lot all for your opinions!
Okay... I'm goin' in!
Fingees crossed!

[Q] wifi unable to obtain ip address after flash

Forgive me if I missed it, but I've been trying to figure out the answer to a problem with my wifi connection.
Basically I had a rooted stock release on my samsung fascinate and I wanted to get the newest official version. So I installed clockwork mod via the marketplace and downloaded the most recent official update's .zip from the web. I couldn't get clockwork to work, tried several things but just couldn't get it to flash the update, (kept saying the update.zip was unsigned). So I thought... "oh well I'll just use odin to flash back to unrooted stock, update 2 or 3 versions ota, then root again." This worked but somewhere in the mess I lost the ability for wifi to start up, just cycles on and off every couple seconds when you try to turn it on.
I flashed back to stock via odin again, then it would stay powered on. However, now while the phone can see the networks when I try to get it to connect it sits on the "obtaining IP address from..." option until it finally says unsuccessful. I've tried purposely inputing the wrong wep password but it doesn't complain it's wrong, so I don't think it's even getting that far.
That's pretty much the state of it now, however I also tried updating to both the stock and debloated versions of the leaked froyo rom from a post here with no change, and have cleared cache/hard rest several times.
Any help would be great. Thanks in advance!
What rom are you currently on, and what modem (baseband) are you currently on?
Number one, you need to flash CWM with Odin, or else you get that unsigned error. Number two, have you tried manually inputting the ip address, subnet, and gateway? If you try manually and it doesn't work, then try power cycling the router. (unplug it for 30 seconds).
Since you say you Odin-ed back to stock it's unlikely that the wifi got messed up there, so I'm more inclined to check the router. What model router is it?
I'm currently using a rom of the leaked froyo eb01 which was debloated / deodexed, with root and clockworkmod, downloaded from a post here on the site that was left by TAPOUT27 (I'd link to it but the forum will not let me). Baseband is S:500.04.V.EB01. Was considering installing superclean, but decided I don't want to keep switching it up while trying to troubleshoot.
By the time I figured out I needed to flash clockwork via odin I had already flashed back to stock... (my noob mistake)
I thought it might be the router at first too, but I've power cycled it, my other devices (laptop, wireless bridge, wifes stock fascinate) all work. and I've also tried it with a couple networks that I don't usually have a problem with in work to no avail. Also tried using a static IP on phone, but not working.
By any chance are you using a time warner modem with built in router?
The router at home is an actiontec MI424WR that Verizon fios installed, at work it's a Verizon mifi 2200.
I was able to add another piece to the puzzle today and now it only gets stranger. I tried connecting via WPA encription and it worked fine. So it looks like it's only WEP and open networks that are broken. Tried with both routers to verify.
bump......
Whoa this.one is a mystery. I'll try to think of some things to try..
I was beginning to think it was a hardware thing until it connected via WPA, now I'm sure it's got to be a software thing.
Try resetting your router..worked when I had same issue.

Tried that, but it's not just one router, it's three, and they all work when other devices try to connect. on all settings not just WPA.
I had similar problem and i run 2. Make sure master has DHCP server on and the 2 slaves do not act as dchp servers, also make sure settings on all 3 for RIP are set to"both" and use RIP1 which is universal. That solved my issues connecting.
Rock on

Please don't take this the wrong way, but your reasoning is backwards. When troubleshooting a problem, the most likely culprit is always whatever changed most recently. That doesn't mean that's always the answer, but in most cases, whatever changed right before the issue happened is the cause of the problem.
Restoring with Odin is a massive change, and is not foolproof. Since wifi worked fine before the Odin flash, doesn't afterward, and other wifi devices still work on the same router, the logical explanation is that something went haywire in the Odin flash. I would suggest using all available wiping methods (factory reset within the OS, and data/cache/dalvik cache within CWM), and then attempt another Odin flash using Adrynalyne's stock DI01 package, and see what happens after that.

Wireless "Disabled" - help

I just recently got this tablet from someone else. (This person had no problems and is trustworthy in reporting all that was done and care taken with it, even offering on advice on things you can do with it.)
My first step was to connect to Wifi. This happened without problems.
When returning home from work where I also connected, my wireless connection(s) said "Disabled" after trying to obtain the IP where they worked fine before. The first time this happened I had to do a factory reset to solve it (hardware reset didn't do it).
Today, it is happening again. I woke it from "standby" to start using again at home and received this message. In fact, any attempted WiFi connections comes up saying "disabled" after attempting to connect and obtain an IP. Again, these are saved connections that previously worked. I know for a fact that it's not the routers.
Please help if you can. I've tried:
1) power off/up 2x in a row to no avail
2) removing and adding back the connection with the appropriate passwords
3) a factory reset but I really don't want to do that again because I'm afraid flashing it back will bring back the same problem.
3) I haven't put any new apps on it since it last worked earlier today so I can't figure that as an issue. The first time it happened a week ago was when I'd just gotten it. It has worked for almost a week without problem. I did nothing special but travel home.
SPECS:
A500 Wifi
Rooted (was unrooted when it first happened); rooted now using IconiaRoot v1.3
(previously rooted and unrooted with Gingerbreak which would no longer root)
ROM: Honeycomb 3.1 with Virtuous Picasso v.1.1.0
Kernel: 2.6.36.4-UNITY-V5-ge7dee2a-dirty
Thanks in advance.
it's a known problem with this tablet when moving from one access poin to another, introduced with the update to 3.1. you have to reset using the pin hole near the micro USB port. i use a staple.
it may take a few tries. if it never works, there's a specific file you can delete if you're rooted. if you cant do that, you will have to do a device wipe.
There is a known issue of connecting to PEAP/EAP networks, which most work networks are. After connecting successfully, often many times, it will suddenly fail to connect. It also shows the signal from the access point to be very low or non-existent. After this happens, it can also cause problems with other PEAP/EAP access points as well.
If this is what happened to you, here's the fix. Try to connect to the access point giving you problems. While it is stuck on trying to connected, click the access point name and tell the tablet to Forget it. Then enter the same access point information manually and try to reconnect. This fixed my problem, and the fix sticks for a few weeks or so until it comes back.
Interesting, I had this same problem a few weeks ago when I visited my parents house. After a couple reboots it just started magically working again and didn't think anything of it. Their router is whatever the Verizon FiOS people install when you get their service.
Thanks, GeekGuy and Falkner, but.....
I've tried both before, but I went ahead and tried both of your recommendations again (pin reset and connection attempt/forget/add). Neither fixed it.
I would like to try to delete the file that Falkner mentioned, but you didn't specify a name and/or location of it. Can you share that?
I could never find what file to delete, so I've just installed a new ROM (thanks to XDA for info on all the how to stuff).
We'll see if it repeats.
Gone from V.Picasso v.1.1.10 with HC 3.1 to Taboonay 2.1 with HC 3.2.
Thanks for the attempted help!
Just guessing but I would say your problem is solved since no reply from yesterday?
Per my last post, I've switched ROMS. As it happened randomly before, I can only wait to see if it happens again. I will post back if it does.
And....as of tonight it happened again.
Note: Different ROM working since the last post 9-26-11.
ROM Taboonay 2.1
The only thing I can wonder about is if it happens when it tries to connect to a network that is actually down such that it cannot obtain an IP that actually gets internet access. However, it was "disabled" when I brought it up before ever trying to specifically reconnect to a network to realize the ISP wasn't doing their part.
Still....no reboots, or hardware resets have worked. I'm working on an image restore of only the system from the 9.25 install of the ROM rather than a factory data reset. Not sure if that would have been better. Trying to save some of what I've done recently. Gonna have to get used to a weekly backup if this is to continue.
Grrrrr..........restoring a backup turned out to be the last ROM. After reinstalling Taboonay 2.1, I still had all my apps and found the same problem. I'm doing a factory data reset as it's the only thing that fixed it before :-(
The only "oddity" I've experienced has been since last Thursday. The Android Market doesn't even recognize now that I have another device. Have communicated with them; they are investigating and saying they have received reports of this on free downloads giving an "unable to process purchase" message. It updates installed apps, but I cannot download any new ones through market, appbrain -even the appbrain app only and not to the market app. I can download through Amazon, so it's the Market issue. Still, that shouldn't affect this issue.
If you have any constructive feedback, I'd appreciate it!
This was happening to me. I had problems with every rom I tried until the following combo: Taboonay 2.2 with Richard's Villain ROM 3.7 kernel. Every other combo would lead to erratic wifi...now it hasn't happened in 2 days. I don't know why this is happening as many of the roms I tried claim to have the wifi fix integrated. I hope this helps. Just flash the latest Taboonay and then the kernel zip file on too of it. By the way, latest rabbinate is 2.2....NOT THE ONE YOU HAVE NOW.

[Q] Problem with WIFI, freeze and reboot after time of sleep (Also in secure mode)

Hi, I never root my phone or flash a custom ROM.
The problems was started when I flashed a new ROM from sammobile of another country, my phone comes with 4.2 and I flashed a 4.3.
I flashed newer ROM from only Vodafone-Spain (only those really are my official supplier), and then I update ever with Samsung KIES, (no Knox counter)
So, with Andorid 4.3 I had more problems than now with 4.4, now the only problem is with WIFI
I can use normally, with screen ON, the problem is when sleep for a long time (more than 1 hour) when I touch a button I see the unlock screen, but does not seem to work the touch screen, and screen go off after a seconds, if I touch other button the screen don't go on. And then, after aprox 30s it reboot itself, and show a window telling that the Process System is not responding, do you want to close?, and two buttons, close or wait.
I tried to start my phone in Secure Mode and I have the same problem, so it is not an app, it is the ROM.
I do at least 2 Factory Reset, but the problem is still there.
I think it is a software problem and not a hardware problem, because the problem start when I update to Android 4.3
I tried the trick WIFI Power save Mode OFF (on dialer, *#0011# -> WIFI -> Power save mode OFF) and never reboot automatically, so the problem I think it is with this power save mode. But if I turn off, when WIFI is ON, the battery drain fast.
In the samsung shop they tell me that first will format my phone to see if the problem solve and try for a time, if not solve, then I have to send by mail... and I will not send it because I know the time it will take to repair it is about 1-2 months and I need the phone for my work.
So is there another solution or something to try?

Since the first ROM (4.2) I flashed 3 or 4 ROMs from SamMobile, so I am not very optimistic. But I don't lost nothing, I will try it
I flash again the ROM, and after 2 days testing, the problem is still there.
Any other thing to try before send to samsung?
Please, give me another idea to try. I really have a problem with WIFI
This is how Wifi (some times) drain my battery when are not connected to a network. But the problem is worst when is connected, because it freeze and reboot.

Yes I solve. So.. I don't solve it, it solve it self. One day I saw that I don't had wifi connection, then I saw that I don't any WIFI names stored, all was erased automatically, I don't know how.
But the result it, I don't have anymore a freeze or a reboot because wifi. ALL, absolute ALL run fine now. I had a lot of WIFI names stored, about 30-50, maybe this was the problem, a conflict with some of these names, but I'm not sure
No one update, reflash, factory reset, or start in safe mode was solve any problem, the problem solve it self... very strange.
If you try a factory reset, then don't restore all your mobile config. Try to install all apps manually, one by one. I ever restored my backuped config, and I think this was the problem.
Hope you can solve it

Thank you very much for answering so quickly.
Happens to me exactly what you do, but seems to have no solution.
I have tried more than 8 roms, stock or mods, and always fails.
At first I thought it would issue the modem or kernel, but after many tests, I do not ****ing know what is causing the problem.
I'm running out of solutions, anyway thanks for telling your case...
I'm glad that in the end one way or another, you have it fixed.

What happens when you fully wipe, flash a 4.4.2 rom, don't restore anything, not even your google account and don't install any apps.

Thanks for your interest! The truth is that it is very strange ...
If I remember correctly, already try what you mention me, but I kept going ... It's like at some point something had happened which change roms not seem to solve..
I'm considering installing a rom with 4 files and pit file, but do not know if this will help in something
Let's see if I can come up with the bug because it is becoming a pain in the ass
:good:
I would try what say Lenny1988. So the only change before solution and after solution, was a big crash on WIFi drivers/app/modem (don't sure) it self, and was deleted all my stored wifi access points that I had. It was a problem related to Wifi power save, if I disabled it then I had no reboots/freezes.
So, I would try a factory wipe and DON'T restore anything, and try for a couple days. If work, then you know a way to solve it.
Tell us if it works.
Hello there! I will update with the latest news!
I tried the recommended advice, but no luck...Not seem to affect him leave without restoring.
The only thing that seems to work and keep it running, is to disable wifi power saving system
you know....
Code:
1. Go to your phone dialer
2. Dial *#0011#
3. When you see the "ServiceMode" screen, press the left menu button
4. Select "WiFi"
5. See that "Wifi Power Save Mode" button that is "ON" - well turn it "OFF"
But this way drain your battery much faster,so it does not seem a good solution to the problem.
Curiously, the same phone, some people suffer this problem and others do not....
It may be hardware? or software?
If I find something, I'll note here.
Regards
