Okay, I did a little searching on XDA, and found that the only way to remove the shutter noise and video record beep was to unlock and use an explorer to delete the .wav files... Is there an alternative to doing so? I am currently on NoDo, and I'd prefer to stay on it if possible.
On a side note, is this fixed for the Mango update? There are a few issues I'm looking forward to them fixing. I hope this is one of them. I heard it's supposed be a manufacturer's decision to add the beep, but Mango should still offer that option.

Touch volume up/down, than the "ring" icon on the upper right half. It will turn to "vibrate". For pictures/videos I had no sound in NoDo and don't have in Mango using this. "Restore" back after photos

I heard of that method, too. But when I change my ringer to vibrate or turn my sound down all the way, the shutter still comes up.
In any release prior to Mango, the only guaranteed way to defeat the shutter sound (without hacking) is to start playing a song in the Zune player, pause it, and then turn the volume all the way down on the phone. Anything else seems to have mixed results, but that method always works.
In Mango (not sure about the beta) there will be an option to turn off the sound.

That actually worked, thanks. I tried it with loading a video instead, and it also worked. Unnecessarily tedious, but at least now I know I can turn off the shutter sound temporarily.
I'm surprised there isn't a camera app yet with this feature.
I just updated to Mango with a dev account about an hour ago. There's a dedicated on/off check box in ringers and sounds now.

Definitely easier with an on/off for sound, but I prefer a dedicated shutter/record sound function.

Yeah. That's what I meant. Or at least what I think you mean.
You want the shutter sound to be off, right? The Mango has an option just for that. Leaves other sounds on, shuts the shutter sound off.

Yeah, it is what I meant. And I'm glad. Thanks.
I hope it starts having smarter data usage, like Android and iOS. Kind of annoying going to settings all the time to turn on data/wifi.

This and the fact that you have hardware clicks turned on in sound settings.

Nope, the volume was 1 notch below the center. This was the 1st thing I looked at after it happened. I guess I'm the only 1 it's happened to.
This actually happened to me a few times when i was on WM5, since i have switched to WM6 i haven't ever had this again. So i assume it is a rom glitch.
Hey everyone this is my first post so i apologise if this problem has been discussed at length already.
Ok so my current problem is that my htc hd2 wont make any sound whatsoever when using the rear speaker (so thats any ringing from incoming calls, notifications, videos, music etc..). I have played with the sound settings relentlessly but can't seem to change its current state and I have also done several hard resets. However, when accepting a phone call or when a pair of headphones are inserted into the handset the sound goes through fine, leading me to suspect that it is the rear speaker which is the problem (My speakerphone after accepting a call also doesnt work).
On two occasions I have been playing music on it in hopes for a sign of life and have had sound on very sharp bursts (no more then 2 seconds). In terms of any programs or updates that I have installed on to my handset I havent done anything but apply the updates from the HTC support website.
The problem ocurred on day 2 of using this handset and I have also sent an email to mobiles.co.uk to ask about a replacement handset. However I was having a lot of fun with this phone and wanted to keep it if it could be solved myself so if anybody has any ideas it would be very much appreciated!
Thanks
Try a hard reset. If the problem persists after that, it's certainly hardware related.
Same thing happened to my HD2 today, all sounds just stopped working for some reason, music player ring tone, notifications, everything, did a hard reset and everything works again, it is a bit worrying when it just happened out of the blue like that.

Did you accidentally turn the volume down using the button on the side of the device? Stupidly, system volume can be adjusted using this button.

Yes it can. It either changes both system and ringtone together (if you only use 1), or you have a tab for both (if you use both volumes), as per the sound and display settings in the settings tab.
No, that was the first thing that I checked, I have the single volume unchecked as well.

I find the single volume the better option, less chance of this kind of thing happening. Other than that, it sounds like you have either installed a tweak or combination of tweaks which are not compatible or you have a hardware fault.
G'day all
My mum just bought herself a new Wildfire, and so far she's liking it, but she reckons that the ringtone volume on it is not as loud as her old Nokia N95-3. Has anyone tried hacking the volume on the Buzz yet? Would I have to r00t the phone?
Hope you can all help, and thanks all in advance?
PS: Would a Froyo Sense ROM be worth installing, over having Eclair with the Telstra crap there?
Anyone?

Don't root - if you charge the phone whilst it is off and then remove the cable the light remains and you have to remove the battery to make it usable
and to increase the rinfer volume press the up button on the left when music isn't playing
Umm, hate to say it, but it seems you're getting the wrong idea about my problem, mate.
Well the first thing I did was I made sure that the ringer volume was turned up full bore using the volume rocker on the side, like come on, the ringer volume level setting would be the first thing most people would check before they'd post this stuff on XDA.
By the way, the notification LED isn't the problem btw. I only asked if I would have to root the phone to adjust some low level setting to make Android give more volume out the speaker than what it currently allows.

Oops my bad I'll try turning off that feature, and let you know how I go.
And I might wait a bit before rooting, now that you mention that CWMod on the wildfire is rather wonky when you charge it.
Cheers for that mate!
Does anyone know if there's a way to disable the camera shutter sound? I was unable to find it in the camera app settings (thank god, since that means it wouldn't save anyway...), and I didn't see it by going through Settings>Camera. Anyone have any luck trying to turn this sound off?
I don't think it's possible right now and may never be officially since there are laws in many countries that mandate audible clicks while taking pictures. Once hacked, there may be a possibility.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who's looking for a solution. It's very loud and disruptive when I'm trying to catch my dogs playing or sneak a pic of my wife doing something silly. I really hope somebody finds a solution for this soon.
Hello, i just bought my focus yesterday and just found out if you lower the volume all the way to zero it doesnt have a shutter sound. Hope that helps, its not a good solution but something.

OK so i was intrigued that people got to do it but i couldn't........so i restarted the phone and I was able to do it dont know why sometimes it makes the sound and why some times it dosent.........microsoft has problems with sound for a wile....so maybe they will fix this soon.....I will keep testing to see what program makes it go erratic
this worked for me
Hey everybody, I've been trying to get around the issue for a while myself and found this: karnicki.eu/?p=10 for the omnia7. It did the trick for me and whenever I set the phone to silent the shutter stays in STFU mode! I fiddled with the sound settings before but it might be something magical about the 1000/-1000 combo. Please test and confirm.
Pause song, turn volume all the way down
Simple "Fix" is to start a song in zune, then to pause said song and to also turn down the volume to zero (0). This keeps the shutter from playing but only as long as you have a paused song in zune.
once there is a file manager hack for the phone, you should be able to just delete the sound file for that one specific sound. Thats what i did on my iphone along w/ the stupid SMS sent sound.
Put the volume all the way down to Zero, turn it off, turn it on, then it should be gone. It worked for me
Is it possible to eliminate the sound of the camera shutter?
Thank you!
it's an anti-perv feature...usually samsung and lg phones have them and can't be silenced unless you hack it

Lol thats wicked. Ma phone has an anti-perv feature classic.
So what does this mean ?
1. I have to take the phone back to the shop
2. The camara won't work for me
3. Use it illegally
Can't you just cough when taking the upskirts now ?
On the other note. I don't mind the sound myself, First time i noticed it tbh when i read this post. Can't mute my DSLR shutter..., And i'm pretty sure thats a camera... So game on...

Possibility exists with HTC to eliminate the sound of the camera shutter!
I get ya, Would be nice to turn off, Sure over time something will come out. Maybe an app ?

I think not. I do not know samsung. I've always had htc. But in this moment, Omnia7 is the best device winmo7.
I'm looking into it now or you lol. Soon as i find a way into the phone directory, sure you can just change the file to a silent file. or change the shutter level in an INI file somewhere... Optimistic
The hardware buttom is good!
Is that just me or is he falling with a Samsung but it's an LG at the end :S

But the hardware is the same!
The hardware for all WP7 is the same, they all had to meet certain requirements and i'm betting none of them "over or exceeded them" by much
Now... how to read this... nand...
I just muted the sound and viola the shutter noise is gone....
Seems it's a simple fix.

mute the sound as in put in into vibrate mode/turn sound all the way down?
you really think people haven't tried that?! unless you have another way of muting the omnia 7?
maybe it is carrier specific whether they allow you to disable the shutter sound or not.. if yours realy does mute then im jealous! wish i was able to use te camera without everyone in a 10m radius giving me funny looks
I can report the same.
I just have to make the volume to 0 and then I don't have the shutter sound.

my omnia 7 doesn't care if im on full volume, half volume or mute. shutter sound is always full volume.
im in the uk on t-mobile. maybe its to do with carrier/country
Well it works for me and 001mic,
i'm UK with t-mobile, so that doesn't make sense
As you can tell from my < thingy there...
UK ,T-Mobile .Reducing volume has no effect on camera shutter sound for me.
