Has anyone been able to update to mango on rev 1.4? I'm on 7392, unlocked and provisioned to receive the 7401 update but my phone stalls at step 6 of 9, rebooting the phone. Zune says I have an update, but can't complete the update.

I don't really think you can
Did you manage to make a backup ?
I can't even do that
I can make a backup for 7004 and 7008 then it stalls on 7392

Yeah same here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224139 Look here for the instruction of moving to 7720 for Samsung devices. It took around 2 hours on my Samsung focus, and yes, it's rev 1.4. But now that everyone and the rev 1.3 owners are rolling to official Mango, I feel like we're being left out (Until "late-October" AT&T says)
try killing the zune autolauncher service, it was stalling the update process (would hang at rebooting) on my 1.3 device, after killing it, it went through fine

But we all are on rev 1.4, which at the moment can only use 7720 RTM, not official. All 1.4 devices will not get update notification until late October (Quote AT&T). Official Mango update is pushed to 1.3 devices today, though. Have fun, adiliyo~

Hi, forgive my ignorance but what do you mean by "killing the Zune Autolauncher service"?
I have the Samsung Focus v1.4 on 7390-Walshed. I haven't been able to successfully unWalsh my phone and when I received the 7392 update, I got stuck on step 6 (Rebooting phone) stage where the phone would get stuck on reboot for hours. (Yes, I let it run for 2+ hours but no luck and a very warm phone.)
So, I'm trying to get to Mango anyway possible.
Thanks.
Could somebody please explain to me how to check what revision I'm using? I can't seem to find that anywhere online.
Thanks
remove the battery and check the white sticker behind it.

open task manager and end the "ZuneLauncher.exe" process, after killing that the rebooting steps worked without any hitches for me.
this was during my update to the leaked 7720.68 RTM, so if you're having those issues with a 1.4 device regardless of what you're trying to flash, it's something to try, as it won't hurt anything even if it doesn't help.
i only had to do it once, and now i leave it running and the phone just got the "samsung update" today and it flashed just fine.

Well, I gave this a try but didn't work. A few comments.
1. In Task Manager, the only process that I have for ZUNE is the Zune.exe. I don't see a ZuneLauncher.exe process.
2. As before, the phone gets stuck on reboot at step 6 of 10. Essentially, the phone has the Samsung logo on the screen and just stays there.
3. When I power down the phone and reboot, I get an 801812C1 error code. (The usual stopping point for me.)
So, not sure what to try next. I've been reading as much as I could on this forum and one thing I haven't tried is the UCKJ2 AT&T i917 (I think) ROM install. But I've read a few people who have a "Walshed" phone not being about to get that ROM installed. Stuck at the same point. (Or they could also have the rev1.4 version as well like me. A double whammy for me, Walshed and Rev 1.4 ....sigh).
Thanks for the tip though.

I rooted my Evo last night with unrEVOked 3.3 and this guide is step-by-step what I did. Hopefully this will help other who are still confused.
NOTE: Make sure any tethering apps are uninstalled prior to doing this. Thanks to SSJon for pointing this out.
Download and install HTC Sync, reboot, uninstall, reboot again.
**Make sure HTC Sync is NOT installed at this point**
-enable USB debugging (menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging)
-Go to unrevoked website and click the Evo, click unrevoked 3, then download for Windows and save the file to your desktop (there's support for Mac OS and Linux, however this guide was written for Windows)
-Go here and follow the instructions to install the hboot drivers
-Reboot your phone and let it load up like normal
-Connect your phone using the charge only option
-Run the unrevoked file you downloaded and wait for it to finish
-Finally, enjoy.
When I used this method my phone had just finished updating to 3.70.651.1 and had hboot 2.10 and fully charged battery. Through a good portion of this your phone cannot charge so I advise you to have a decent charge left.
Thank you PryorDaniel! Worked like a champ. I am running CyanogenMod 6.1.2. So far working like a charm!
Thanks again!
Glad it worked

Any tips on what I did wrong?

Once you are done rooting, you can install it again, and use it. It just cant be installed during root because it messes with the way unrevoked communicates with the phone.
Apply latest ota with unrevoked 3.31

You have to flash a ROM that's based off the newest build. Unrevoked just gets you rooted.
i just ran 3.31 and im getting a message saying "Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?" im running 3.70.651.1 i first thought it was because i had easytether installd in my laptop then i uninstalled it, i retried and nothing . idk why thanks and sorry in advance.

I am too. Trying it again. I just downgraded, then put OTA 2.2 on my phone. then ADK, drivers again, and am running the reflash tool.
As a side note, I tried installing the ADK from their site - the one that says recommended. Then successfully installed it, but then decided to uninstall it using Add/Remove programs.....it wiped out my ENTIRE My Documents folder!
I just rooted using Unrevoked on my phone and for some reason when I am at home it says my current location is Chennai, India. I am actually in Dallas, TX though... I have not updated since getting it around Christmas time although there is a HTC update pending. I tried multiple attempts to run Unrevoked 3 before posting and there is always an error on the phone when running it :
Sorry the application Zysploit has stopped unexpectedly. please try again.
I get that error every time. Any way for my to get a simple root still?
Excellant and easy to follow direction. Thanks.
I don't know why people are having soooo much trouble with this so im just going to post this..
this is what I did to get the 1.8.3 update.
1) Go download the Motorola Software Updater from here.
2) Download the updater and then install it. Make sure that you have your Motorola Driver updated.
3) Run the updater, plug in your phone (Debugging has to be on). Wait till the updater recognizes your Atrix.
4) The updater will scan your device and see what firmware you have installed. Once it identifies that you have your Atrix connected and you are updated to 1.5.7 it will start to scan for updates (This can take a while, so let it do its thing).
5) Once it finds an update, it will wait till you click next.
6) After that it will download and install the update to your phone, once it is completed your phone will reboot. (Again, the updating/installing can take a while)
THATS IT!
Rooting time w/ GingerBreak.

If I can do it, anyone can.

About how long does it take to recognize the phone??

It would be nice if you could update like this but they have pulled it off there site since its not goin OTA yet. So now were having to revert back to flashing 1.8.3 over 1.5.7 va RSD. then do the whole root and side load after that

A while. I guess it depends. I'm not sure if Motorola pulled the update from their servers like AT&T did.

To my understanding it took alot of peoples phones a while. From what i heard you can Flash 1.5.7 then flash 1.8.3 on top of that and root and enable side loading before the phone tools would start the update

There should be a %. But it doesn't say how long and I didn't keep track. I just started it and left. Came back and it said it found an update then i just installed it.
Proof. Just want to show you that I actually have it working.
-Sideload (the only way I could get Screen Grabber on my phone)
-Rooted (required for Screen Grabber to work)
-1.8.3 (shown in picture)
I Flash a 1.8.3 SBF file.
But can't display a MP4 file which can play on Ver 1.5.7.
Can you play it with Gallery (with 1.8.3 default video player.)??
People have told you several times now that this method no longer works, I tried it exactly as you said several times over the past few days and just for good measure I tried again right before I posted this.
I understand that it worked for you a couple days ago but things changed and I assure you it does NOT work anymore.
Looks like the OTA availability is widening. I've been manually checking for updates daily for the last week or so. This morning it found the update and installed without issue. Northern VA area.
i just used the 1.8.3 sbf with RSD lite 5.31
No update on moto for me and no OTA
finally got it working, thanks!
I got the update notice as soon as I registered the product (which I hadn't done until today after owning since April 20th). Make sure that you've registered your phone on motorola.com
I just got the update right now over WIFI > System Update. Looks like its downloading now!!!
dont forget to backup your internal sd card since gingerbreak will format it.
Mine just popped

Ya, that was my experience too. I did everything to the letter, and no update. What I think happened is moto/att is pushing out the update in batches, and you (chubby) happened to be one of the lucky first in the roll out, and that's why it worked for you.
I could be wrong, but that would definitely explain why everyone but you was having so much trubbs.
BTW, I just checked again a few minutes ago and it finally found the update.
Omnia 7.
Can't update to 7392 cause of the faulty bootloader.
So curious, when Mango comes out, will I be able to update to it, or will I have to get 7392 first?
This is pissing me off, I've been getting the update notification for over a month now and I'm hoping Mango would fix this, but I can't seem to find a clue anywhere.
you will not be able to update from any other windows phone build than 7392, you have to use a jig to get into download mode and flash a firmware that contains nodo update
I have NoDo. Just got a response from MS saying that if I skip an update I'll get the next one that includes the previous one.
So if the update procedure to Mango is different than 7392 it should install. I hope so.
You should get the jig and update your firmware or you'll run into issues sooner or later.

Are you sure it's because of the bootloader that you can't update?
I also had the 4.10.1.9 faulty bootloader and i was able to update to 7392 no problem and the subsequent smasung update which flashed new firmware... again went ok.
What errors do you get?
Well, for 7392 from Zune. It stops at the "restarting your phone"
And with the Samsung update tool, I can't get to boot mode, press the buttons and nothing happens. So no way of it working? How did you get into bootloader mode so the samsung fix could be applied?

Does your phone actually reboot into a loop or just hang?
I did apply the Samsung patch a few months back incase i ran into trouble. I do not know if this has anything to do with my ability to update though.
I used a resistor jig. 301kOhms as described in another thread to get into download mode then applied the patch.
oh yeah i remember the jigg and how hard it was to make.. waste a few micro usb before getting it to done but it well worth it..

Assuming you don't mind having NO BACKUP and no way to get back to NoDo for the full Mango update in Autumn*, for an even easier way than Sakem's post, try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15625488#post15625488
You need the AppMfg app, available here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841892
Unlocked my device and now rocking Mango build 7712. NOTE: it can be VERY slow updating and/or take multiple connections for the zune software to pick it up. Be patient. Also in theory Mango isn't supported by Zune 4.7, however I had no problem myself.
*I'm hoping XDA will figure out a way to revert back to Mango and/or do an factory reinstall. I'm not bothered about data, as there's none on the device.
You have to be at least on nodo to update to mango
Well, 7392 is NoDo right ?
Yep :/
Strange that zune don't upgrade your optimus
I did this method yesterday and had no problem :/
1. The *.bat backup your phone and cheat your phone to be recognised as dev phone (not just unlock)
2. Zune must find a first update
3. Then the second one is the final (last one at least) update (which take a bit longer)
4.After mango update done, you have to use Zune 4.8 beta to synchronise your phone again and have to do the MFG tricks to unlock it.
Hmmm that's maybe the problem that I've zune beta 4.8 already ... Gonna reinstall 4.7 now
On 4.7 now and still no sign of a update =(
Try to launch the .bat process again :/
You installed Windows Phone Support Tool, right ?
retried like 20 times now with both running as admin and normal but still nothing :S And yup I've installed them. May I ask what version of windows are you running ?
Running 7pro x64 with both Zune for x64 et Windows Phone Support Tool for x64
Maybe your 4.8 Zune changed some files you shouldn't have yet (even going back to 4.7)
I suggest you read the comments on my link, it's huge but I saw some dudes having problems too (some with walshied phones).
Sorry for you and I really can't say "forget about it Mango is not so important" cos Mango is ..."alleluia"
haha XD Well gonna try it on my laptop it has only 4.7 on it so hope that is tha problem
Whoop Whoop It's updating *evil laugh* Thanks for the help <3
Nice ! Happy for you. So it was zune 4.8 indeed ?
Don't forget that u'll have 2 updates to reach mango 7712 and that u'll have to unlock your phone with MFG again....and finally u'll be able to use Zune...4.8 ^^

Had this problem too, and didn't manage to restore.
I suppose it happened because I filled more than half of the available capacity (or so I think).
I even tried downgrading to 7004 and retry the backup then, that didn't work either.
You can try that, if that doesn't work... you'd be out of luck, like I was.
Try again and again different scenarios, be imaginative, maybe you can find a solution that works in your case.

Can you detail a bit more about your phone?
Revision (1.3/1.4), card installed (type/size)
When the error started to appear etc. Anything you think might be useful/relevant.
I have hardware rev 1.3. I do not have any SD card in my phone at the moment, nor have I ever. I can get to the download menu and restoration menu in zune, but it all fails. I think what messed things up was I tried to format while on 7712 to try to get back to factory default. This took me to a "new" 7712 with the default settings. I even tried formatting by holding PWR + Vol DWN + camera to no avail. When i was stuck with 7712, I tried to use my restore point to get back to NoDo. Thats when it all came crashing down. I think I need to wait until newer roms become available. Help?

Not being able to hard reset suggests some kind of problem, which either points to the hardware or the flash. Let's leave the hw for now, so you can easily assume it's a flashing problem.
I would go with a 7004 ROM and start from scratch. If everything works well, you might be able to use your restore.
However, if something's really wrong with your phone, flashing might actually do more damage and possibly brick your phone. Not to scare you, but to make you aware of alternatives.
I have already tried flashing with the 7004 rom and it did not work. I kept getting an error about the devices not matching. I am thinking that I need to flash with at least a 7712 rom, since it seems that is now the phones default version. weird.
Bump. I think that if i were to have a restore point that was 7712 or above, I can get the phone back in operating condition. I'd be willing to pay if anyone is interested. However, it has to have no windows live account attached to it. I.E. restore, and skip entering in account info.
samfirmware.com has couple firmware for Focus. If you can get your phone into download mode (connect to PC screen), you can flash the firmware to it. Not sure which tool to use (ODIN or else) for flashing firmware. Check the dev forum for help.
Thanks for the reply. I checked out samfirmware.com and didnt see any specifically for the focus..any chance i can get a link to them?
Edit: Nevermind, I found them. Ill try them out.
I tried flashing with the roms on samfirmware.com, I got the same results with those roms as the ones posted in the forums here. I assume I need at least a 7712 rom to flash to, as my phone has essentially "forgotten" that anything before that exists and doesnt know how to go back to it. I can still use a fresh restore point from 7712 or beyond please. I am stuck using some horrible old phone while i fix this lol.
Edit: Grammar
Happy to report that after various configurations of my process, I finally got it work. I used the roms that are up on these forums. If anyone has the same issue i had here... try different computers. try different cables. try different ports. That's how I got it to work. Thanks to those that gave me suggestions.
I sense that when official Mango finally hits, we will see a lot ppl hitting the same issue as you because you must roll back to NoDo firmware before you can apply official Mango updates if you're on 7712 Mango beta, IIRC.

I'm not so sure about that. Just ask those who walshed their Focuse try to get to NoDo faster(which is actually also from Microsoft). There are likely firmware updates accompanied by the official release for Focus. Anything that's not running official NoDo updates will probably have a tough time getting that official update, or anything after that.
