I own a record label and was wondering how difficult it would be to develop an app that just streamed our music? Obviously we would be able to host all the songs, I'm just curious how difficult this would be and possibly get pointed in the direction of someone who may be able to develop it for a fee.

Idk a thing about development, but I would start with subsonic to get your feet wet in how it works then build an app from there. I like the idea.

Possibly a PHP script on my server that randomly generates an m3u playlist each time someone loads the player. With that I believe you could stream via winamp, and making an app that just plays that playlist wouldn't be to hard, and may enable track skipping.

So my buddy is about to help me with a PHP script on my server which randomly generates an m3u playlist ever ten minutes. All I would need this app to be would be an mp3 player that only pointed at the m3u file on our sever, which would then stream all the tracks in that playlist off our server, and enable track skipping. Any ideas? I pay.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
We've got the m3u generating php script working, and I've found an open source media stream player that works, I would just need to edit the player so that it would only link to m3u on my page, and display the metatag info instead of the filepath. Can anyone help with this? Seems like it would be pretty easy to do, I just have no Java experience and haven't had the time to make it through my Java for dummies book yet.
Anyone willing to help?
Again, I will pay.

Send me whatever info you got about the open source media player, I'll take a look, can probably get something going for you.
Also, send link for the m3u playlist / script / whatever you have the app should links to
PM me if you need to
Pm sent, you are the man.

If parabola949 can't get something working for you, drop me a message. I just finished-up a 4 month project....always looking for something to code!
I knew XDA was the place to come, he's working on an app right now then taking a look, but you free to check it out as well, I know enough to know it would be pretty simple other than displaying the mp3 metatag info and album art. Servestream.sourceforge.net is where the app is at, sprucegooseradio.com/playlist.m3u is our randomly generated playlist.
Any and all help is appreciated, like I said I'm sure if I knew Java programming this would be a 20 minute deleteing and changing a few lines of code.

That's not a terribly high price; I think you would agree if you actually decide to code it yourself. Programmers do what they do because others can't and we like to be paid.
Now, if this guy is that good and can put something together in a couple of hours, then about $100 would be good (i.e. $50 an hour).
Can you put just one (or compile all 10 into one mp3) mp3 onto your server? I started coding something for you, but I'm not well-versed in audio coding...I can't get something to play from the "playlist", but I think I can get the mp3 to play.

Has anyone heard anything about google revamping the market? We should be able to download full movies and mp3's legally the same way itunes does. That is really the only thing apple can hold over our heads right now.

Argh, waiting very anxiously for an invite! I need a way to stream my music library, but I don't really like how you have to upload every new song manually for Amazon MP3 Cloud Service.. Plus I've been having issues where Amazon uploads the same song multiple times for some reason. Hopefully Google will ease my pains! lol

You can use audiogalaxy to stream your music library. You do not need to upload anything. You install a audiogalaxy program on your PC, point the program to your music library, open up the audiogalaxy app on your Epic 4g and you can stream immediately over 3G, 4G, Wifi, or your desktop. Plus it scrobbles to Last FM. No uploading at all. The app is 100% free. I use it all the time.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.audiogalaxy&feature=search_result
Also there is no limit on how much you can stream. you have 40,000 songs, you can stream all 40,000
The only downside to this is that in order to stream, you must leave your computer with audiogalaxy background app on. Your computer is the cloud essentially. unlike Amazon and google's services where you are uploading it to their cloud locker.
To bad the Music streaming doesn't work on the Epic
At least not on EE03
Google Music app just got an update to 3.0.1.
get it on the Market.

I personally use Amazon Cloud Player. It's been working well for me.
Looks like it's working on the stock epic.
I have all music that was on my home laptop listed and playing on my phone.
I haven't used all features yet but basic ones are OK.
Hey guys,
I was wondering if any of you use the app Audiogalaxy. It's a wonderful app for streaming your whole music collection from your computer to your phone. It works phenomenally (for the most part) and you are able to access as much of your music as you want without clogging up your sd card.
However, it appears that Audiogalaxy's server is down at this time. If anybody else out there uses this app, are you having issues too?
Also, they recently updated the app and I don't like the interface quite as much. They added some social networking features that are cool for some, but not my cup of tea. I was wondering if somebody still has the older (about 2 months ago) apk before the update.
EDIT: their servers are back online and all is good again. If you haven't given this app a try, it is well worth it. All 140 gigs of my music is now streamable from wherever I have a data connection. It does great on 3g.
Thanks all!

Not if they enable our tv-out feature. We could stream it directly from the phone through the AUX port.
Also, I'm sure there's a way to stream your phones screen to the computer through the use of an application on the phone and on the pc. Could be wrong, but it seems remotely likely..

You can rent from other places online for your PC like Amazon.
Yeah, I'm not sure why would want to do that... the Android movies are $1 more expensive on average, and probably would be lower quality. Go on Amazon or something.

Being able to stream it to another viewing device or not Google movies gets a big YOU SUCK for blocking viewing on rooted phones.
Has anyone watched a movie from the marketplace yet? Maybe it is possible to use the dlna feature. I have my pc connected to my tv and my phone Wireless networked to my pc. Not sure if it would work for rentals.

not trying to be rude , but I dont remember asking you to save me money lol.
I do however think that it should be possible to stream the movie from my phone to a pc.
I think would be kind of nifty you rent a movie on your phone , you watch it , go over a friends house and say hey I got a movie want to watch it?, and be able to stream it to their pc or something.

I understand the premise but I think that is what Google is trying to prevent because once on a PC it can be recorded easily. There are too many apps for computers to do this. This is also supposedly why the root block is there (not much of a lock though).
All's Google needs is a lawsuit from a movie company stating they are the reason it was bootlegged (too many lawyers in this world).
I'm sure at some point you will be able to access the rented google movie from your google account on your pc. And I am betting you will be able to with a google enabled tv as well. I'm not sure if it works that way now but it might in the future.

I kinda hate the UI on the thing, browsing for music is complicated to say the least.
What are other music player options available for android? I would prefer something free but if its a paid app I'm willing to pay for it.
Also some of my music has incorrect album info, any way to edit this on the phone manually?
Thanks guys
I use PlayerPro from the market. It's a paid app but well worth it. Very easy to navigate and you can edit the song tags in the app.
Can I edit stuff for example, I Have two songs from The Killers, one says the artist is TheKillers (without the space)?. This causes 2 different artists to pop up
Going to start reading some reviews.
I'll give another Hell YA on PlayerPro. No matter what rom i'm on i HAVE to have playerpro. its one of the apps that solidified my love for android and its customizability. PlayerPro is literally the PERFECT media player.
EDIT: and yes, you can edit all the info and tags on all your media very easily
sweet, going to download the trial when I get home later, may end up purchasing it
Poweramp is one of the best out there, unfortunately its paid
definitely worth it however
I use cloudskipper. It's free and has a built in equalizer and pretty sweet lockscreen controls

+1 for PlayerPro.
I could tell you a million things that I love about it (and why I chose it over PowerAmp), but I'll let you try out the trial and decide for yourself.
The PlayerPro trial will play music past the seven days, but it loses functionality. Read the reviews for the paid one along with the trial - but take some of the trial reviews lightly, some people are using it past the trial period and it isn't working to its full potential.
