Can i keep the medianet data plan if i buy the phone unlocked from dell? I currently using it on my Bell Desire Z. If i buy the at&t DVP unlocked, will i be able to keep the plan? Did anyone try this?
Thanks
On my wife's DVP, I bought it subsidized from Dell for AT&T and they switched her $10 dumbphone plan she was using on her Pixi to the Smartphone plan since I had to pick the plan when buying the phone. Once AT&T switched it in their system, I called and switched the IMEI on the billing system from the DVP to a dumbphone IMEI. Then I logged into OLAM and picked the $10 unlimited family data plan again and it has been on that for a month with no issues. The OLAM system still shows the phone on her line as a SE z520a instead of the DVP, so it would seem that they do not pick up the phone type automatically on the DVP like they do with other phones.
Because of the above, I would assume that buying unlocked and using the old MediaNet plan would work without issue...

Has anyone else tried this? I too have a Bell Desire Z that I use on AT&T but this phone has had my interest ever since I saw it in the Microsoft Store last November.
There is a great sale on eBay: Unlocked 16GB brand new for $299 either version (AT&T or T-Mobile) and I'm really considering getting it if I can keep my cheap data plan...
Edit: Looks like it is this price on Dell.com, too.

I'm not sure if this answers your question but I purchased a DVP locked to T-Mobile and unlocked it through dells unlock code request email service. I have been using the phone since the beginning of April on AT&T. AT&T does not recognize my DVP's IMEI # as a smartphone number and allowed me to purchase the unlimited *EDGE* data plan for $10 a month. If you don't mind slightly longer load times for youtube videos and longer download times for apps, I would recommend it. As for reception and call quality, I can't tell the difference and I've never had issues. Not a bad deal!

UPDATE: Yesterday, AT&T sent a sms and email saying they were changing my wife's line back to the $25 plan....oh well.
Darn. I was really considering the phone, now that I know I'll be switched to the $25 data plan, I won't be getting it. $300 is a steal for it, though. The only thing I wish it had was 512MB RAM. I can't believe they skimped on such a cheap component.
The ram bug was fixed in newer firmware. It does have 512 ram. I ordered one anyway, since I don't use over 2gb anyway.

I just bought an unlocked Dell Venue with AT&T bands, and AT&T replaced my $15 medianet unlimited plan with a 2gb smartphone plan. They must have all the IMEI numbers now. Lesson learned.. don't buy unlocked phones from a mfg that also offer them with a contract.

Oh I thought there physically was only 256MB in the device. I guess not. Still though, I wanted to get one to play with and see how I like WP7, but if it means I'm going to lose my $10 data plan I won't be doing that. Maybe if that new Galaxy S 2 slider comes out on AT&T next month and I'm forced to get the new data plan, I could pick one of these up, too.

Its probably an at&t (greedy bastards!) thing. I have a DVP on T-Mobile and still have my GF'ed $19.99 data plan, no trying to get me on the higher priced data plans.

This morning I got text from AT&T that they moved me from my $15 unlimited data plan to $25 2GB smartphone dataplan . Did this happen to anyone? I am wondering is this has got anything to do with X10 coming to AT&T soon? My wife has Nokia N97 and she didn't get the message (touch wood).
Damn, it sucks to pay them $25 when you pay full price for your phone. I am going to call them and at least try to grandfather me to $30 unlimited plan instead of this 2MB plan as it should help when I grab a Huawei S7 Android Tablet or similar device.
are you sure it's 2MB instead of 2GB? that could be used up in no time.

I also got the text this morning. Sucks. I purposefully bought the x10 in may because I had heard the nexus one was recognized by att and required the smartphone plan. Going to put my sim back in the old nokia n95 and try to switch it back to the 10 family data plan. The only reason I buy unlocked phones is because of the cheaper data plan. If I was going to pay for the full smartphone plan, I would just get a subsidized phone from them for cheap. The smartphone plan is 2gb btw, not 2mb. From my usage, 2gb would be plenty, do you guys actually use more than 2gb a month?

This sucks... anyone have any success with contacting AT&T to switch back?
I just finished talking to AT&T. I switched my SIM card to my old W810i and told them I didnt have a smartphone. They are trying to switch me back to my original $15 Unlimited Data for Non-Smartphone plan. Looks like i'm going to have to buy another phone...
Any ideas? Switch back to X1 or X2? :/
i have theyre 30 dollar plan, which is unlimited text and data and i didnt get the text today
I got the same text this morning. Planning to call in later today to try to be grandfathered into the unlimited plan, then I fully intend to soak up a lot of data. It's complete bs that we need to pay for the extremely overpriced data plan when we didn't receive any subsidy from them. I don't care what they spew out about them doing us a fair by giving us enough data so we don't get overcharged. It's the same internet we've been receiving from them and it's been that way for years.

When you call them can you also ask them whether they detected you by IMEI or your total usage, because I am also using the x10a on AT&T but has no data plan and have yet to receive the text message. Thanks
when I went to asia I paid $1.50 for 2gb
I received the text for the smartphone data plan today too. I guess the rumors of the x10 going to at&t are true. What's a good data counter app for the x10/android besides the at&t one? I want a widget of some sort.
I may be getting rid of my x10 now. I've always wanted to try an n900 or even e72 and may end up doing so. Was going to get an ipod touch in september for media anyway. Not sure what to do. No point in buying unlocked for me if I can't use medianet (even though technically we are supposed to use the data plan anyway), even though I also buy unlocked just so I can switch phones often. When they finally remove medianet for good, then I'll get sucked in to their data capped plans. Until then, the war continues.
I used to work for att as a csr so ill throw in my two cents.
Whether they can match your imei to a specific model is unimportant. The system has a way of flagging people using smartphones. From what I understand you get flagged when your phone tries to access the data network with an incorrect or non existant feature. So if you have no data plan don't access ur data through the network and you won't get flagged. If u have one of the non smartphone data plans u are gonna get flagged sooner or later.
PS if u get the text saying u have been put on a data plan call them and tell them u were only trying your friends phone. Get a non smartphone imei ready and they should be able to remove it.
Hope this helps
Guys why all the grumbling over $30, I'm with vodafone in the UK and my mobile price plan is for calls and data. I pay £30 GBP which is about $40-45 USD, for that I get 600 minutes of calls, 500 sms & 1gb of data. Yes 1gb and that's only a recent change because smartphones becoming so popular, when I started my contact in April I only got 500mb and went over that the first two months.
Do you guys get calls included in your plans? Not sure how it works in the US & Canada?
I wish I could get 2gb for $30 which is about £20 GBP but that's dependent on included call time.

Oops about the 2MB plan. Talked to AT&T CSR and they won't let me grandfather to $30 plan as I was on $15 unlimited dumb phone plan. So, I am sC*W#*@*. Hope I don't exceep 2GB. Started to enable WiFi and also checked the notify option for WiFi Networks.
I because of the crazy data use by iPhone users AT&T is making everyone suffer with these stupid limited data plans as I now need to monitor my use.

I was told I was detected by my data usage. So, I am wondering even if I go back to something like W995a, I still would probably chewing in lot of data but these days I got too depended on Google maps to check out restaurant reviews, etc. I was told the $15 unlimited data plan will exist if I ever get another dumb phone.
In canada we pay 30$ for 1gb. I would gladly pay that for 2gb.
I just got off the phone with at&t ccr, and after a lot of persistence, it seems at&t is really getting the x10, or at least something from sony that fed them am imei list.
Also I have some good news.
After opening a ticket and talking to two separate reps (one from the regular customer care and one from the business dept), both seem to believe that an elevated team will be able to change my plan to the smartphone unlimited data.
To those who tried and were unsuccessful, I would try again. Having the right rep really means a lot in these kinds of situations.

I am in Canada and pay $35 for unlimited (5 GB soft cap). That's with Wind Mobile.
I am considering getting a Samsung Vibrant these days. There is one thing that bother me a lot.
I am a student from China. And I am getting a prepaid SIM from T-mobile without any kind of plan right now for the price reason.
I was wondering if I got a unlocked Samsung Vibrant from eBay and use it on the T-mobile network, do I have to pay for the data plan?
The thing is I owned a AT&T Fuze before and everything works fine on the T-mobile network except for the 3G. That's okay for me cuz I don't use 3G anyway. But there is one time that my friend who is on AT&T network borrow my Fuze for couple days, and AT&T just added the data plan for it automatically. My friend try to call the staff in AT&T and they said that since HTC Fuze is a smart phone from AT&T, it require a data plan so he cannot cancel it. And they can tell when he insert the SIM card and AT&T will get the IMEI from him automatically.
I just wondering will the same thing happen in T-mobile? 30$/month is way to much for me.
BTW, there is another question for you guys. There is a lot of unlocked Galaxy S on eBay, which is nice. I was wondering how they get it unlocked? Can I get them unlocked right in the "carrier shop"? Or there is other ways that I can get the unlocked code?
Thx you guys anyway for answering these questions. BIG HAPPY FACE
You might have to spoof the IMEI, you're in the same boat as my friend. He wants to use his old Sidekick plan with the phone but since's it's not a Sidekick he can't use the data at all because they know he's using a smart phone. Discussing IMEI's is not usually allowed on xda because it's illegal in some countries. I think that's your only solution though.
Wait a few months until the phone is more popular and you'll be able to easily find ways to spoof the IMEI. So far I have found none.
you have to have the android web spoofed or not. Without it TMO will lock you out of the market and mms

as long as you use t mobile prepaid, you won't be charged for a data plan.
Why do you want to buy those expensive vibrants from ebay? I'd rather buy it from tmobile with 2 year contract, then cancel the plan and pay the ETF.
You can try to ask a t mobile online csr for the unlock code. Just tell him you will travel outside of us.

He said he is a student from china so I assume he does not have a SS# and without one he cannot sign up for a contract.
The best thing you can do OP is buy a Galaxy S i9000 off ebay. Tmobile only has the IMEI for the vibrants. That way you can pop your sim into the international version and they wont know.
Or get a sim card from mysimplemobile.com $60 a month for unlimited everything and it uses tmobile service. That is what I switched to and it works with my vibrant without an unlock.

Yup. You are right. I don't have the SSN right now so it's difficult for me to sign a contract.
The international version which is the i9000 is not bad. But I notice the price for the international version are significantly more expensive than the vibrant, for like 100-200$.
Anyway, thx for the suggestions.

Im using the vibrant on tmo after upgrade. you can go online and remove the service. I paid for one month and canceled. you just change the type of phone to one not requiring android data plan ie a non android phone and it will let you remove it. I'm using it purely on wifi. just remember you will need it unlocked or w/ 3g to activate it initially or after wipe.

Ahh, Hmmm I paid the full 500 and today is the last day I can return mine. How much was the termination fee out of curiosity?
Another question, I have been using mine prepaid for almost a month now and TMO hasn't given me any trouble with it. (Aside from the reps in the store when I went to buy it).
Do you think I should bother to spoof my IMEI? Is that something that can get a fellow into trouble in this paranoid new world?
From what I've read everywhere else, it seems that TMO needs your business and won't give you any trouble using a prepaid sim in the phone. Whose to say that won't change in the future though.

You can usually get a contract from T-mob with your passport and your F1 student visa (assuming you're on a F1). You'll have to wait for about an hour in order for them to get approval from headquarters, but it works fine. Got my Vibrant that way, and while the charges are high at least you get unlimited data (as in really unlimited), so watching videos, listening to pandora and all that is a non-brainer..

That's the thing I don't understand. I paid $199 for my Vibrant on a 2-year contract. I have a $200 ETF, which means that I can cancel, and get the phone for $400. For a non-contract, I would have paid the full $500.
So what one can do is use the Even More for one month (which is +$10 from the Even More Plus). Then cancel, pay the ETF, and move to the same Even More Plus plan. Which would mean you would get no contract for $400.
Am I missing something?

is this really possible? amazon currently has the vibrant for $0.01 with a new contract. so in theory, one could sign a new contract, cancel and pay the ETF of $200, and get the phone for $200.01?? then sign up for an even more plus plan with no contract? (i also thought EM was $20/month more than EM+)
any input would be appreciated. this sounds too good to be true
You can buy a Vibrant and use it on prepaid you are just going to pay $500 for the phone. T-Mobile doesn't care they wont and can't charge you extra.
I would recommend checking out flexpay, you can get a monthly plan and get data if you want it. If not go with prepaid $15 a month gives you unlimited SMS and $0.10 a minute and just use wifi when you need data.
One last thing is do not recommend imei spoofing as its illegal here.

If you cancel with amazon within 6 months you pay an added 250$ ETF to them. So it would be 450$ all day.
I got mine from costco for $99 and canceled for 200$ after ETF. So $300 total. You also get a free cheap case car charger and bluetooth from them. Oh and no activation fee.

nice. i'll look into something like this. i wonder if best buy / radioshack / car toys also have ETF fees of their own... (no costco membership for me)
I am kinda confused by this.
So I am in a stick situation here.
My parents have a family plan and I bought a Vibrant adding onto their Even More plan, which requires the $5 add a line and also $30 data plan. But I kinda think I don't really need data plan/3G cuz I am mostly home and don't quite use 3G unless I am not home, which isn't too often. $30 is a little money wasting, so I was thinking of just getting my phone without contract by paying $500 and just adding to my parents' Even More plan without data plan to save money.
But since I got my phone from Costco for $200 (when did this $99 deal start? I got mine a week ago...), does that mean I can just cancel and save money instead?
Important question though: Is it really true that there is no Android Market access without Tmo smartphone data plan? Why is this so? If so, is there any way of my getting away with it in my case?
Thanks,
FYI, if you have an F1 visa or any student visa you can do a contact with T-Mobile with no deposit and no ss#. This is something relatively new to t-mo. Just go to any corporate store location and they should be able to set it up for you. It takes about 45 minutes to process. That is the only down side.

I don't have a data plan, and I can access the Android Market just fine via WiFi. With Wifi at home and at work and most every place in between, the data plan is really pointless for me
I am currently using an iPhone 3GS with T-Mobile using the $10 unlimited data plan... If I upgrade to the MT4G, will that plan still work on the MT4G?
I read I can just change the APN and viola it should work...
No it won't. You'll have to get on a andriod data plan or 4g plan.

Do you have experience with this? I can forgo 4G at the moment, I'm using EDGE speeds so 3G would be great!
I went from an WinMo phone to Android and had to switch to an Android plan because they cut me off of my old plan.
I think the trick to it is if you use a non T-Mo branded phone, you may not need to update your data plan. An Android phone from T-Mo will have it's IMEI number pop up on their network and they'll know that it's and Android phone and will make you switch to their Android plan.
I was only with T-Mo for 6 months before I changed phones and asked for the preferred data plan ($20).
If you UPGRADE you will have to pay the $30 unlimited data a month fee. That is the only way you can get the phone at a subsidized price. If you buy the phone off contract then the $10 data will work

This!
If you buy it elsewhere besides T-mobile, they cant force the upgrade on you. I mean they could since they can see what phone you have, but highly unlikely.
I would double check the price plans if I were you guys. I may be wrong but I went into a T-mobile Official store yesterday and will be getting a Mytouch4g later today, and they told me my total monthly price for everything including unlimited text talk web and 4g was going to be a flat 79.99 US a month. could be wrong but that's what they told me and what the brochure says about the plan
I had an iPhone 3g with t-mobile (only on edge) with the $19.99 data plan. I spoke with the "customer loyalty" dept. The assured me that if I upgraded to a mytouch 4g, they would substitute my $19.99 unlimited data plan with a $20.00 unlimited 4g plan. Sure enough, I am good to go. I was eligable for a full-upgrade, so they actually sold me the phone for $150 rather than $200 as well.
Can anyone advise on this? I just got my MT4G and the $10 plan with the changed APN to internet2.voicestream.com won't work.
Is there a fix or anything I can do?

theres nothing you can really do about this. i was on the same thing with my iphone3GS. they will recognize the phone and it will auto direct you to the upgrade website.
Plus if you want the $100 rebate, you have to get the $30 data plan
If you go thru loyalty department you can get MANY deals. But T-Mobile can't force the upgrade if you buy the phone elsewhere. They will tell you that to have optimal usage and performance, the unlimited 4g plan is needed. And for the 79.99 deal, you can easily get that since the phones been out for a while and if you go through loyalty department. T-Mobile will do alot of deals to keep customers

I've been a TMO customer for a few years now, and I can tell you that their customer service is second to none. If you ever want to change your plan or upgrade your hardware then call the customer service number and say "contract," that will get you to the customer loyalty rep. From there, you can be sure that you're going to get the best deal possible. My wife and I both upgraded our MT3Gs for MT4Gs eight months before we were supposed to be eligible for an upgrade, and they gave us the full discount...and it was during the buy one get one deal, so we got them both for $150 (or $75 each)! On top of that, they gave us an unlimited texting plan for both of us for $10/month... Since we still have or My Faves shared voice plan from years ago for $60/month, our total monthly bill for both phones is only $127 (with taxes and fees, including the preferred android unlimited data on both lines). Oh yeah, I should also mention that we didn't even have data on our MT3Gs; we had hit some hard times financially at one point, and they let us drop it without any charges or fees whatsoever. TMO has the best customer service I have ever dealt with, just let then know exactly what you want, and why you want it.

Is the US version worth waiting for? Sprint is the only one with a sort of confirmed release date for July 24th, Verizon and AT&T are still unannounced.
I'm buying this phone without contract. My question is, should I wait for the Samsung Attain (AT&T version of GS2) to come out, or should I just buy the international unlocked i9100 version? I know the US version is supposed to have NFC support, but NFC seems gimmicky and unnecessary to me honestly. Any other things I should consider about the US version?
Also, I've read all about the wifi and yellow screen tinge problem. Does anyone think the wifi connectivity could be improved with a software update, or is it a hardware issue that might be resolved in the US version? I also understand a good number of people do not suffer from the yellow tint on the side of the screen, and I might be willing to roll the hard six and hope that I don't get that problem either.
Any input on this amazing-looking phone is appreciated! I owned a Captivate and hated the lack of LED flash camera and no front-facing camera. Glad to see this one is packing some serious hardware, plus Gingerbread!

Since nothing is announced, it can come next month or it can take another 5 months. I couldn't resist and bought the international version. I would say not to wait, buy now and enjoy this awesome phone

i have a feeling that it'll be announced by at&t sometime next week. only reason why i say that is because sprint announced it...
prob won't happen...but gotta think positive.
Pros of International Version
- Updates directly from Samsung
- No AT&T crapware
- No AT&T software or hardware "enhancements"
- Ability to use unlimited dumb-phone data plan for $10-15 a month
- SIM unlocked out of the box and no carrier specific radio "tuning" (good for roaming, not at home)
Pros of AT&T Variant
- Subsidized
- Insurance
- Swaps during warranty
- "Tuned" for their network (good at home, not for roaming)
- LTE perhaps?

Thanks for your input That's what I'm suggesting. And I figure even if the US version is released sooner, is it even worth getting instead of the international version? The only thing I'm really concerned about is my wifi not working. I plan to use GTalk video chat (and yes, I read about how to make it work with 2.3.3) and I don't want to suck up my entire data plan with it. Plus, I'm in the military and I'm currently in a temporary duty station with poor cell service. Wifi is almost a must.
If you are buying off contract like you say, then hell no don't get the att version. The unlocked version is always better. Always.
Barry had a good synopsis of the pros and cons and I think Roger pretty much capped it. If your not getting a subbed phone medianet will end up making the international version cheaper over time and you can have it now. No brainer for me but then I already made this exact decision and would I suppose have to be considered biased. I can tell you one thing, this is kick ass hardware and I don't regret that decision at all.
I got the unlock version back in May and no regrets. Best phone ever.

I picked up the unlocked version to use on AT&T and I love it. I have had zero problems with WIFI. Nothing but good things to say.
By the way, how do you get on the $10-15 data plan? I'm currently in the $25 2gb plan.

I'll recap what I learned from others here. Apparently, AT&T has no way of knowing what kind of device is using their data network other than IMEI ranges of devices they sell. Therefore, the SGS2 doesn't appear to them as a smartphone.
I started a new account so I was on the dumb-phone plan from the beginning. Others suggested calling a CSR and telling them you're replacing your current smartphone with a Motorola Krzr. Ask/tell the CSR that you want to add the data plan for non-smartphones to it. It appears people have been successful doing this.
Here are the plans:
Data Unlimited for Non-Smartphones - $15.00
Data Unlimited for Non-Smartphones - $10.00 (Requires Messaging Unlimited)
Messaging Unlimited - $20.00
Messaging Unlimited - $20.00 (Includes Mobile to any Mobile Unlimited Calling)
Messaging and Data Unlimited - $30.00
I went with Data Unlimited ($10.00) with Messaging Unlimited w/M2AM ($20.00). So for $30.00 I have unlimited data, messaging, and calls to people off the AT&T network. That's a great deal when you look at AT&T's a'la carte smartphone feature pricing. We can also tether for free which saves even more.
Alright. I'll certainly look into the other plans. Thanks for your reply!

thanks for the breakdown! this alone is enough to sway me to decide on shelling out the $700 (ouch!) for the international version. i was on att with a $25/mo 2gb data, but had to switch to sprint for unlimited. no i can go back.
do you think that at&t would eventually catch on? i know that the international version has an unrecognized imei, but the reason i ask is b/c the canadian nexus s' imei is in at&t's system for some reason, and ppl who pop the sim in are hit with the regular data plans.

Typically the answer is no, att database lists only phones they sell, with very rare exceptions like the nexus one. But the galaxy s2 is not known for sure if they eventually start tracking the unlocked version. We don't know, but likely not.
Sprint didn't confirm a release date of the 24th - they posted it was a mis-communication and that date is for the galaxy tab.

I believe that was Verizon. Sprint was the one where two Managers had heard whispers on July 24th and told that to someone who asked

The nexus s and some dell streaks were very rare cases of att adding there imei. Im 99.9% sure ATT will never have the international(uk) sgs2 in there imei database. If I believe ATT are changing the hardware a little(removing physical button). Theres been 100s unlokced devices thats been released and has never been added to att imei database. The sgs2 would be the first.
IVe been running unlocked devices on att for about 5 years and never had a problem. Ive givin them the imei before and they have no clue.
Now if ATT and other us companies stop the need to make there devices feel unique then we might have a problem. But that would never happen.
Thanks for the replies. Ill be ordering mine tomorrow. Any suggestions where to buy? Was looking @ popularelectronics.com where they list it @ $694 shipped. But with such a high end device, company reputation is as important as price.
Gonna miss my nexus s :-( I wish I could keep both!
Update: found a deal @ mobilecityonline for $685 shipped after coupon. Their reviews don't look as bad as other online stores that sell unlocked gsm's. Gotta review their return policy though.

I think the July 24th launch date was referring to this handset: http://androidandme.com/2011/06/news/meet-sprints-new-mid-end-android-phone-the-samsung-conquer-4g/
Obviously not an sgs2. I doubt sprint would release it on the same day or week either.

get it, OP! It works well on AT&T and I have solid, strong wifi as well.
Anyone else doing this? I have unlimited on one line and have pre ordered a note. I plan on transferring an eligible upgrade from an existing dumb phone line to a 2gb smartphone line to get the note at the upgrade price.
last time I went to best buy, they couldn't do this but that was awhile ago. Never had a problem with costco to do the upgrade swap. I recently did it an upgrade swap with my second line to keep my unlimited data. BTW, costco only charges tax on the sales price on the phone and not tax on the retail price of the phone which is nice.

You can switch phones as often as you want between lines. However, be careful. I'm currently in quite the argument with Verizon supervisors about some miscommunication between myself and their reps.
I did this for my wife last month to get her the iPhone 6. Well the short version is when I went to put the "dumb phone" back on a basic 10$ add a line (like two different reps ASSURED me I could. And have done it twice in the past) I am now being told the new contracts say you must keep the 2gb 29.99 data plan through the length of the contract, regardless of what phone is on that line.
This is a new practice for them, and total BS because I've had this line for a longggg time. It's been a gigantic hassle while I wait for them to pull the phone calls, etc.

I can use this method online thru vzw.com, if I transfer the upgrade from the dumbphone line (no data) to the 2gb smartphone line it doesn't prompt me to add data to the dumbphone line, it just verifies the 2gb line has data which is obv does. I understand what you're saying though, I saw some update to Verizon's policy at the end of August this year that does state if you add data to a line it must keep data for the life of the contract. Obviously if you were told by 2 reps they could remove it then they should honor it.
If nothing else I plan on doing this, just move the upgrade to the 2gb line. And activate the note 4 on the 2gb line. I'll then go to a Verizon corporate store and have them do a device swap between the 2gb line and the unlimited line device.

I was considering using Costco but the $200 gift card at best buy is such a good deal. I have an old droid x2 which isn't worth $10 @ Verizon or Costco (cannot qualify for the rebate thru Samsung) but is worth $15 at best buy....
I was going to use a phone line with data that is due but the upgrade is available. Best Buy will apply the offer to that line and then switch my sim card for my line into the N4. I say WAS, since without root I will not bother
with the N4. Need card writes for non stock apps. Too many emulator and media apps the access my 128gb card. No card writes means no Note 4 and probably six months to wait for Lollipop that MIGHT have external writes enabled for non stock apps.
With the BB method you MUST have them ship the phone and you activate it with your current UDP sim card.

Yeah, the $200 is nice but was unsure if Best Buy can still retain my unlimited data. Never had a problem with costco swapping upgrade dates. All I know for sure, once I lose unlimited data, I'm switching to Tmobile. Verizon almost got an instant termination from me when they announced throttling but luckily retracted from that.

What conditions? BB will activate it on the line (if data on it already) and then do the switch in store. Fairly common practice by staff at my local store.

I think the only way it works is if you have a device already with a sim card that fits. Not for sure though, so BB could tell you.
BB told me I can't just take the sim card from my G3, and swap it into the Note 4 when I buy it outright. They have to activate a new sim card that comes with it but they told me it does NOT effect my unlimited data at all.

Sorry, I was less than specific. BB activates the device with a data line with a new sim card for the new device and THEN swaps the user's sim card.
