Lol! Probably not - but I generally unplug it going somewhere. Would be so funny to bring that setup to the park or something like that and set it all up lol - I bet battery drain would be pretty quick

Alright I'll say it. Desktop replacement. Just need to hook up a printer.

If it was rooted, I wonder if you could do that with CUPS?

What micro HDMI to a monitor. I cannot wait for FPS games to support keyboard and mouse. Maybe even valve will cone to android

Great news! Xbox 360 Wireless works!!!!

Great news guys! looks after after the OTA update the WIRELESS controller works!!!
Winning!
Awesome! You need the dongle plugged in, correct?
I really want PS3 wireless since I don't have the dock.

what do you want to know?
I mean you just update your transformer to the latest firmware and you plug it in. Thats it
Wired controller still not working.
Edit: It appears to be working, just not completely recognized by some apps... hrm... I'll set the keys, but it'll say "unrecognized" but then go play the game, and it works fine. So I guess all is good? All buttons are recognized, other than the triggers, it appears.

I think they're talking about the pc dongle that lets you use the wireless part of the controller. It actually came out before the 360.
The wireless dongle is probably this:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2
which I dont' see how would come out prior to the 360..but oh well.
Personally if I have to plug in something to the tablet anyways..I'd probably plug in the wired 360 controller cable. Not like you are going to sit 6 feet away from your tablet and play.

There were a few things that came out prior to the console's release and this was one of them. It wasn't like weeks prior if I remember correctly, but yes, the dongles were out before the 360's release.

Using my Transformer as mouse/keyboard for my phone

I recently have run into Droidmote. I have a good setup at home but wanted to use my Asus Transformer as the mouse and keyboard. Took me 2 weeks to really find something that worked. Not sure if anyone is interested but I thought this was a cool find. Definitely worth the $2. Just put this on your Motorola Photon (or other android device) I have been using it on my webtop for the passed 3 hours. pretty awesome

Also posted one of my worst videos of my life posted on youtube lol, due to me being too excited. This is also the same dock I purchased for $29.99 btw

I don't think I explained what exactly I was doing. Since I dont want 2 mice and 2 keyboards on my desk looking messy, I was looking for an app to use my Transformer as the mouse and keyboard to keep things clean. This is what I was looking for...
Nice setup! Im using my TF for something similar. Using Tablet Remote, I connect the TF to a projector and use my HTC Aria as a bluetooth mouse to change ppt slides (Polaris Office) for presentations. I love the questions afterwards about the setup. Always get the,"I didnt know Ipads could do all that!" My response," They can't, that's why I use an ANDROID!!!"
Back to your setup, I like that idea of using the tablet as your mouse and keyboard also. Very sound for hygeine freaks who dont like sharing keyboard & mouse with others!

I love my TF101, and I'm as far from an Apple fanboy as you can get, but unfortunately I have to correct some misinformation here. The iPad can control presentations as well. The CEO of my company has one and controls all his presentations with it. He makes a big deal of it too, and I'm always thinking "my Transformer does that as well, cost less, and isn't chained up in the walled garden of Apple."
Back on topic, this app is perfect for using as a BT keyboard and mouse. I'm planning on setting it up at home, so I can work without being restricted to my chair at my computer desk. It gets uncomfortable during long sessions.

Tablet Remote not have mouse and not have a real gamepad only DroidMote have this futures.
ehh, TabletRemote does what I need it to do: Using my phone to control the TF via BT whilst presenting. Your right, it's just a touchpad not a mouse
Back to OP, can droidmote be used on TF to desktop w/o the need for a phone inbetween?
with droidmote you can remote control an android device (phone/tablet), a windows desktop or a linux desktop.
in all three situation with your phone you can simulate a real mouse, a real keyboard a real gamepad also with accelerometer functions.
all this input device are seen from the kernel as real devices.
DroidMote is a serious remote control not only because it was developed by me
wow! droidmote is soooo responsive! im loving it! its more responsive than my rocketfish bt keyboard and mouse. this is going to be awesome! im using the htc aria and the optic wheel works great over bt. only issue ive noticed is the voice commands dont register input. other than that, its great!

DroidMote is perfect for this really responsive and good lay out, but if your not rooted try Try Tablet Remote as a general android to android remote not got mouse control but has good interface and gamepad feature in the same style as Xperia Play. Tablet linked to TV via HDMI cable>>running tablet remote on both using gamepad to control a game on tablet and view on big screen ideal!

[Q] Cool stuff to do with the keyboard?

Just picked up my transformer with the keyboard attachment, and I'm loving it. The battery life is UNREAL!
Does anyone know if theres anything out there you can do with the keyboard attachment that it doesn't necessarily do already; rooted or not? I'm thinking some kind of hack or mod that might be out there
I was thinking it would be neat to use my pc gamepad with it to run some emulators and racing games and stuff if that's even possible
All the emulators should work but some do not have gamepad support although there is an app to map hardware to the touchscreen i can not remember what it is called right now. As for mods most seem to be moving the batteries to the side and putting in hard drives and 3g motems and i have seen one where someone added a phone dock in the wrist rest area
Holy crap, do you have a picture of the phone dock??
The most impressive one was the additional 500gb Hdd added to the dock. You have to search the forum for the thread, but this one was really awesome.

So I'm getting just about 1% battery drop per minute of ANY (decent) game play. Is that about right? Seems like a LOT to me...
Also:
I agree Dead Trigger is a good game albeit a simple FPS. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like they super dumb down FPS's for phones because they're expecting it to be difficult to use the screen as a controller.
Maybe they do this rightfully so, but if you use a PS3 controller, suddenly all the FPS games are rudimentary and have no depth or challenge. (they all also run too slow when you have the ability to zoom around the screen with a joystick)
How the heck do you hook up an xbox controller?

OTG cable is all that you need, it allows the phone to work in USB host mode so you can connect just about any USB device to the phone
For maximum flexibility, I recommend https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.poke64738.usbjoy which is an interface program for USB game controllers which allows you to map ANY usb controller to any key you want. I use this on my Kindle Fire for all the NES/SNES/Etc emulators. It should also work with the bluetooth based controllers. One thing that kind of sucks is that a lot of games are designed from the ground up for touch screen controllers so there is no provision to even change the input device

It's really not very difficult. To connect via bluetooth (which in my opinion is far superior to ugly and annoying wires) you will most likely need root.
I prefer the PS3 controller and this is the app I use: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...5ncGl4ZWxzdHVkaW9zLnNpeGF4aXNjb250cm9sbGVyIl0.
A year ago, connecting a wiimote was like 'WOAH!' now, It's almost expected. This is nothing new, and I'm really confused at why there aren't third party controllers for phones. The first good controller (or PS3/xbox copy) could become a standard to which all games are modeled upon. Game makers could even charge like $30 for a big title game and send you a controller for your troubles.
Unfortunately, as altitude909 said above, most every game these days is made with the idea that you'll be using on-screen controls. So they either do some funny things to make it easier to use the screen which doesn't translate into a controller, or they dumb down the gameplay so that it's just too easy with a controller.
Mass Effect is probably the best game graphically and gameplay wise on the US version Galaxy S3 currently. No matter how hard I try, that game just cannot translate into a controller. Because the nature of Mass Effect being a third person life action but turn based shooter, they tried to incorporate that unique gameplay into a phone, which actually works well with on screen controls, but could be so much more enjoyable if you could use a controller. Problem is that the game requires the player to tap on enemies to aim, and also slide around to use various powers...
Can an otg cable and 360 controller work with games, like emulators, without having root?

My only concern about the shield

I am seriously looking forward to the shield but I couldn't care less about the android gaming portion of the device. The only reason I would be buying this is for the streaming option, I already have a i7 920 machine with a gtx 770 gpu (talk about too much gpu for an older CPU) and have my whole house wires with cat5e and wireless n routers/access points. The shield would be my dream come true, I would just take it to any tv in the house and connect it with the hdmi out and basically play my pc games anywhere I want, or if needs be, on the shield screen itself.
Those who are married with kids know exactly why this sort of mobility is why the shield is 100% worth it. My problem? That the shield is a complete flop (it probably will) and nvidia does a dreamcast on us and drops support for it in a few years and no more streaming games.
Any chance o a type of root hack or something that will allow us to stream games nvidia doesn't allow?

Assuming the *game* supports an external gamepad. I tried to get "Rock of Ages" to work, but it doesn't. Of course, I've had multiple times where that game won't work with *the keyboard connected to the system*. It's pretty flaky. But most games support an external controller, and just work.
It's not fake mouse and keyboard events, it's a real controller.

Oh, nice, so you workked on the project officialy with Nvidia or how did that work?
Won't you get into trouble for letting me know we already can get around the allowed games?
I won't take anymore of your time, I just wanted to ask how the overall streaming experience was? With my setup being a i7 920 with a gtx 770 and 12gb of ram and my router being a belkin N router (no A, just N). My idea is to connect the shield with a long hdmi cable to my 60inch lcd and play my computer games there (my computer is in another room altogether)
In a situation like this, will my intentions work? I am very excited for this device for this reason alone!

The weak link in your setup will be the wifi router. I haven't had great luck on the 2.4GHz spectrum, but I also have a noisy 2.4GHz range (many APs nearby, baby monitors, etc)
Outside of that, you, that will work. I wish they had used MHL for the HDMI out, so that you didn't need two cables to be charging and playing, but I don't know if MHL can do 2 amp charging or not. I'm hopeful that Monoprice will start selling their very sexy thin HDMI cables for mini HDMI (I haven't looked lately, so they may already have them), and then it wouldn't be terrible to connect via HDMI video. I think you can use a bluetooth controller with SHIELD, so you could set it on a table as a "dongle" for streaming PC games.
I still work on SHIELD. And I love working on it. One of my responsibilities is to make sure we stay as close to pure AOSP as possible, while supporting product features which AOSP doesn't (try using a controller to navigate the launcher...). That said, NVIDIA doesn't sponsor (or probably condone) my speaking on dev forums, but I'm also careful about what I say. Working around non-supported games was planned ahead of time. Supported games means games we've tested and made sure work smoothly. But you can add any games you'd like to Steam (heck, you can add Microsoft Word to Steam) and they'll show up via "Steam Big Picture" on SHIELD.
You'll notice I don't reply to launch date or "what caused the delay" threads. I do *like* keeping my job. That would be "leaking" information.
Got it I won't ask those questions then.
Just worried about the router thing you mentioned. My fiber op goes directly into a dual band n router but that is in the same room as the computer so using the shield there makes no sense. I have a cat 5e cable going from that router over 150 feet to my home theater room and over there it connects to an older Belkin N router which i have set up as an access point.
That's the room i plan on doing most of my shield gaming streaming from the pc in the other room.
Why would you say this wouldn't work? Cat5e not enough? N router not enough?
What sort of speeds does the shield require?
Also, what you mentioned about setting the shield on a table and connect another controller to it via Bluetooth is just incredible. This means i could connect a wireless keyboard and mouse to it. I'm abit of an old school gamer myself and not that much into game pads when taking about fast reaction in games. Love game pads for rpgs and things like that.

You could probably attach any keyboard and mouse to it through the usb on the back if you get a USB-OTG to full size USB adapter/hub. I'm not 100% sure the shield supports it yet but I would be surprised if it didn't.
