Yellow Exclamation Mark - Galaxy S II General

So what does this Yellow Exclamation Mark appearing while turning on my SGS II refer to?
I noticed, originally didn't have it but it appeared after taking my phone to Samsung sponser to update my software to allow Arabic language support!
Although I'm shifting from my old HTC Desire HD, I'm not familier with flashing new ROMs & these issues. I don't even know how to make it.
One more observation I noticed after the update, is that the connection to the official phone software update server always fails. Originally, it was working with "No Updates Available" result!
I wonder what did they make to my phone which may have caused this & how can I fix it!
Please advice!

Afaik it means your phone is rooted. It is running a non samsung original kernel.

seems they installed what we call here a "custom rom" , meaning, a non-official one.
the yellow triangle only indicates that the phone is flashed with a non officially released rom .
strange, if that's where you bought your phone, that they flashed it with that
as long as you got this trinagle, you won't be able to update via KIES, which is normal cause it manages only official samsung release.

To OP: Get USB jig if you wanna use custom kernels. It will remove yellow triangle and reset download counter

Just checking my Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100JPKF1-CL277308 [email protected]#2
Yes it seems strange! But maybe when you know I'm living in Kuwait it explains the issue as it seems that was the only way for them to get the Arabic language support to the devices in sold in Middle East!
The question is that why Samsung has not realeased this support officially? So many older Samsung devices already supports Arabic! & who then made this ROM for SGS II rather than Samsung?

damn, this usb jig reselling seems to be flourishing ...
We don't even know what samsung intend to do with this counter anyway ( and i remember ChainFire saying that there is an hidden one ).
That's not Nour826 who has flashed the phone, but the people where he/she has bought it.
The usb jig is a micro-usb that you insert in the micro USB port to get rid of the triangle at boot and to force reset the flash counter for custom rom that you can see in Download mode (when maintaining VOL down + HOME + power when the phone is off )

I may be pulling stuff out of my arse here, but can't you get rid of the triangle by just flashing the proper kernal to you firmware ( something like that?).

Thank you Amrael! It seems you guys are using your phones in a different way than what I used to know )))
It is really appriciatd if you can guide me with any links that explains ROMs from scratch as I told you my information about is almost Zero!
If I am to LEARN to flash a new ROM, which of them is the best & SUPPORTING ARABIC LANGUAGE?

You can grab the USB jig here:
(well, i would post a link, but this forum is damn unfriendly to us noobs it appears. I can't thank the developer for the custom rom I've installed because I don't have enough posts, and now I can't post a link to the jig because I don't have enough posts for that either...)
Do a google search for mobiletechvideos. That should get you in the right direction.
The jig works like a charm.

mmmh as starter, you can try this post i think, in the android dev section :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
i've checked it quickly, but it seems that the firmware JPKF2 have arabic (not sure, but the CSC of this firmware is for arabic countries ).
if it does what you seek, you will end with an official rom, unrooted, and able to see updates via KIES
all i've learned is by reading a lot in here and with my past months with my old SGS
It's not really hard, but the first time you try it's always a big stress
i'm now able to theme my phone myself (well, with the help of romkitchen.org too ) but i'm far from what i would call a "developper" anyway.
And i won't call the ability to copypaste some icons from a zip to another being a developper anyway ^^.

My experience with this update was little nervous! I do felt as if I am destroying my mobile! But, it worked!
Results were as follows:
Quite went against my expectations not to lose any any of my settings, applications, or information. It has started back with even my wallpaper settings & home screen Widgets!
Only what seems to be removed through this update by Samsung, is the Music Hup as originally it was giving a message that music hup is not currently supported in my country. No worry! Music was never was of my interests
Good news that I have no more Yellow Triangles while starting which indicates I am running an official kernel as I understand!
The bad news that I am still not able to connect to the update servers!
Which I think I am still in need to your advice about )))
I have already uploaded couple of pictures above indicating the new kernel I am currently running, & the failure message received everytime I try to check for updates.
Once again, I do thank you for giving me this experience anyhow. & sorry for the long post!

Would you be kind enough to link us to ChainFire posting this, as I've only ever seen the hidden counter said as rumour and would certainly trust it more if I'd seen him say it.

@nour826 :
don't worry with the OTA server, seems it's still not used by samsung ( at least , not in our countries.).
We had it too in SGS roms, and it never worked.
To my understanding, it's supposed to replace Kies for upgrades.
@johncmolyneux :
i will try to find back where ChainFire was talking about the hidden counter, but was a few month ago now.
i remember he was not completely sure of that either and i've not actively followed this.
ha , i've found that back ; was in the second page of the CF-root kernel :

Hi, I have the exact same situation as yours (yellow triangle, exact same kernel version). I bought my SG2 here in Qatar. Perhaps this is a Middle East issue.
So am I correct in assuming that the phone is already rooted. How does one confirm this. Also when you flashed a new ROM; your Kernel version changed. Did you flash a different Kernel as well. Which ROM did you use and are you happy with it?
Thanks.

is there news about the bootloader lock?

Does anyone can verify if there is bootloader lock on USA/CAN version of Galaxy Note 3?
We all know that the ATT&VZW version of the galaxy S4 has bootloader lock and look like there is no perfect unlock solution yet...
so how about the Note3? Will it come with LOCKED BOOTLOADER on ATT & VZW again?
or its just UNLOCKED?
hope if someone could verify this
I'm quite sure it's locked because of the knox security, newer fw on the s4 got there bootloader locked up
GT-N7105 via Tapatalk 2
The latest update on the canadian s4 didnt lock the bootloader so im really hoping the can cersion of the N3 is also unlocked. This could be a good option for at&t users as long as we can get the device sim unlocked sooner rather than later
Time will tell.
sent from my S3, S4 or Note2
If you are on Verizon or AT&T then a locked bootloader is GUARANTEED. They both have stated as much on all phones and they are not changing their position on it. All we can hope for is a method that allows us to unlock it and not have to use SS to get around it.

Knox security has NOTHING to do with the bootloader. The bootloader is lower level than Knox. The bootloader on the S4 remains publicly locked after the OTAs, but that doesn't mean it isn't privately unlocked or that it's not able to be cracked. It's just the the public bounty of $5000 is a fraction of what the exploit is worth on the black market.
"What black market?" you ask. It's not a big secret if it's in Forbes magazine.
So the next time your device's bootloader or root state is not where you'd like it to be, don't assume that the device's manufacturer or the carrier made things too difficult, throw your hands up, and curse the xda developers for not having a solution. Instead, go to the bounty thread and pledge something worth their while. Can you really blame them for not caring about a $10 pledge when it takes them many hours over several days to get the exploit? Meanwhile, the $10 donation would give the person two years+ worth of benefit. What would you do if you were them?
I work at a phone repair shop and bootloader of the S4 is not a problem. I flashed many S4's. Customers are scared to update their devices so we offer that as a service since were an official service point of samsung.

I was told that write protection enabled is shown in download mode. I wasn't exactly sure if that is for the NAND or the bootloader however.
I haven't seen Samsung lock their nand down like HTC does however.

Wait, are you saying that you are able to downgrade from latest FW?? For example from XXUDMH8 down to XXUBMEA??
I've tried and it's simply impossible due to irreversible bootloader.. Odin will FAIL on aboot.mbn and if you exclud it, you won't have Sound nor WiFi nor Calls ...

Mate, new bootloader for GT-I9505 (S4 int) is NOT locked, it's irreversible and SECURED.. You CAN root your phone or flash Custom Recovery/ROM/Kernel etc but it will trigger KNOX WARRANTY VOID flag and set it to 0x1... What that mean?? No one knows (yet) ... Some says that your WARRANTY is VOID but I don't think so... It should be KNOX Software related ONLY but it's still unknown...
Note 3 will have the same type of Bootloader and KNOX SOFTWARE on-board.... It won't stop you from flashing Custom ROM's but we need to find out if our WARRANTY RIGHTS will be intact or void?? That's my question for now...

Flashing ROM's through Custom Recovery is a different story and Bootloader is NOT flashed.. You CAN'T downgrade it at all... (so far) Tested

Which carrier and which country. If you have an AT&T or Verizon phone then you are in for some gold and riches. Otherwise you likely have one that is not locked by carrier request.

For a person that has an owl as their avatar, you're not really making a wise decision. Let's weigh this one out:
Stay at home, make my own hours doing something I really love as a livelihood, be able to afford sending my kids to college :good: :highfive:

Fight traffic going into work every day, work on their schedule and sometimes holidays, and pray I don't lose my job while my kid takes out tons of student loans. As an added bonus, I get to brag to people I don't know, who I will never meet, about hours of work I did for absolutely free. :crying:

I'm sure many very smart people will own a Note 3 and exploit it anyway so they can root their own device for their own benefit. It takes virtually no effort to reveal said exploit so hardly much work for strangers (since the root they did for themselves). Keep in mind that the folks who have been finding exploits for iOS for years have never asked for money (google Dev-Team blog).

As far as US models, there is already a Clockwork mod recovery for the 900T (Tmobile) version. This still doesn't mean we can flash custom kernels but it does mean we can flash custom roms with stock kernels hopefully. It does trip the Knox counter which is fine by me. I don't want to use it anyway.

So like i promised, i have checked out the special computer with the samsung smartflash tool, the + on this is that you can download the stock roms in multiple files (PDA/MODEM/CSC etc.) but flashing seperate files must be done by odin, the smart tool installs all of em at once. so were till no further on the bootloader backward flashing. I can check if i can put all bootloaders online for development useage.

[Q] Odin fails 4.3 bootloader issue

I am trying to install a 4.4.2 rom. It (phoenix) is on, but the baseband of my I9505 is still stuck at Mk2.
I followed steps to flash a new modem, but it reports failed every time.
I downloaded a stock 4.4.2 rom. It failed to install in odin. I was able to get back in recovery to use my nandroid, but I would really like to get this critter working with a 4.4.2 rom.
Is there a way to just update the bootloader?
Is there any drawback to being on the 4.4.2 BL instead of the 4.3 one I am on now?
Should I have a custom kernel that relaxes permissions or something?
Thanks tons.
Mike
Here is an image of the fail screen in Odin. I have tried 3.04, 07 and 09.

That file you are trying to flash is only for the old bootloader. I think you have the new bootlader so that file is not for you. If you want to update your modem, then pick a newer modem.

I thought the NC9 designation meant it was the right modem. Is there another version of that file that is for the new bootloader? I also believe I am on the new boot loader. I got the lovely knox 0x1 warranty result to go with it...
I will take a gander at the modem section again to see if I can find the ones that work with the new bootloader.
Went to sammobile to try to get an updated firmware for the device. I bought my USCC i9505 on ebay, for use in the us, but on sammobile I cannot choose USA as a place to check the firmware from. Is it only a international device? Is there a USCellular stock 4.4.2 I should be looking for? Thanks.

ps why do you want to update the modem? If everything works, then it's ok. It's not that a newer modem is always better.

Thanks for the reply, I will give that thread a look. My problem is that when I move to a 4.4.2 rom I am not able to send text messages. I noticed after a few days of fighting with it that the rom I had was NB9 and the baseband of my phone was MK2.
I was under the belief that if I got my baseband to be NB9 I should have everything back in order.

I don't think its a problem with the modem. I had a similair problem once and that was caused by an incorrect "smsc number". That number is needed for sending sms. You can receive right?
I don't know how you can change it with the default sms app, but with an app like Go SMS Pro you can enter it manually.
Just google for: smsc number [insert provider here] see if that works.

I could not get into my S3's SMSC settings, but my two older phones appeared to be blank. Neither would give me anything when I hit refresh either.
I decided that since PagePlus uses Verizon that their SMSC was probably the one I needed, but that did not solve it either.
At the moment I am restoring my 4.3 stock rom. It works, so I will see if I can check the SMSC in there. Does it make any sense that I can restore a rom and have it work, yet when I put a new rom on it does not? I guess I did find several post detailing similar results back when IC was new. Maybe I am wrong about the page plus SMSC and that is my issue.
Thanks for the time and effort!
Mike
It could be a problem of the specific rom. Did you try other roms?
Does the stock rom flashing of 4.4.2 work now? If not, make sure you use the backport usb, not the front ones.

It could be a problem of the specific rom. Did you try other roms?
Does the stock rom flashing of 4.4.2 work now? If not, make sure you use the backport usb, not the front ones.

I have tried 2 or 3 different roms. Phoenix lately and Golden eye before that.
I downloaded a stock 4.4.2, but it stuck on the Samsung screen. Scared me that I had her locked up tight... I had an issue yesterday with it not coming back from a nandroid too... I had a copy on my external card though and recovered from there as well.
I am not sure if I had a USCC stock 4.4.2 when I was doing that odin attempt. I asked on a teamuscellar page if there is a stock 4.4.2 for the s4 yet, but had not seen a reply yet.
Thanks for the tip on the back port. I will give that a go when I try again. My previous message said I was bailing.. but I am really not good at giving up. =) Thanks again!

Do you have this model?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272533
Because I see that U.S. Cellular has the Mk2 modem you talk about. Maybe you have the Galaxy S 4 (SCH-R970)? Could that be possible. Maybe that is why everything fails and why you can't text.

Yes, that is it. I am not sure how I started thinking I had the I9505 instead of the R970. I must have seen a post somewhere that linked them. I wonder how similar the hardware is. The roms I tried were sweet, just no texting.
Thanks so much for helping me solve this!

I think this [ link ]is the stock image for the 970 that I tried in Odin and had it stay on the Samsung screen. I will download again, check the md5, and give it another go from a back port usb.
I did notice that the post you led me to was in the S4 i9500, I9505, etc forum. Is it possible my R970 is also a i9505?
Thanks,
Mike
I don't think you can use the i9505 roms.
After you flash your rom, try to do a wipe data from the stock recovery. I think it will boot then.

SM-N915S/K Root

Root confirmed working for Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Exynos Korea SM-N915 "S" via the legend Chainfire CF-Auto-Root
FOR THE MOST CURRENT ROOT METHOD, PLEASE REFER TO THIS THREAD >> [INFO] [CF-Auto-Root] Galaxy Note Edge SM-N915
WARNING : KNOX COUNTER WILL BE TRIPPED AND WARRANTY VOID - THERE IS NO CURRENTLY KNOWN METHOD TO RESET THE COUNTER OR ROOT WITHOUT TRIPPING KNOX !!
I used : SM-N910"K" (Korea, Exynos): CF-Auto-Root-treltektt-treltektt-smn910k.zip . Another user in this thread had reported that using the SM-N910 "S" Cf-Autoroot failed to boot, so I instead tried the "K" and success. All THANKS & credit to @Chainfire, if you require the stock recovery for SM-N915S, I'd gladly send it to you if you require it to make a formal Cf-Autoroot for our device.
Root has also been confirmed using the same method and file for SM-N915"K" here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56761632&postcount=34
Method:
1. Advised: Have a full stock firmware package available (just in case) [sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com]
2. Have Samsung USB drivers installed on Windows PC (Easiest way is DL KIES from Samsung)
3. Flash via Odin [I used Odin3 v3.07 - attachment] as per Chainfire's instructions !
** If unsure how to use Odin, there are many guides found by searching !
4. Wait around 30 secs after flash (stuck on boot screen), and hopefully device will boot.
5. Open SuperSU app and update SU if prompted
Note: You will have installed stock Android system recovery for SM-N910K. This should not affect the operation of the ROM.

So Cf-Autoroot from Note 4 works for SM-N915 "S". If so which exact one ?
If confirmed for "S" model, would be one less thing for me to look at. ..... I can proceed with a kernel

So glad to hear that there will be someone else on here with SM-N915S model.
Silly question, but what would be the benefit of rooting this model of Edge right now? I ask coz there's no custom rom available atm.

Main use is for root apps and deleting system apps.
You can then manual theme things.
After my samsung s2 i just stuck with stock rooted roms. Removed things i didnt want.

That's what I need, there's a lot of Korean apps on my phone. I have disabled some but they still show up here an there. Another very annoying thing is the dailer, it has Korean text on it which I want to remove as I only want English.
I'd be happy if I could remove some of those apps, and add the yahoo and twitter panels.
Do you think I'd able to flash an international version rom my Edge at some point?
Thanks.

I am unsure on that. The processor is different I believe and that would be a main thing.
But with root you would be able to change most of the apps and you might be able to set up the build.prop to a USA one that should let you add yahoo and get to the USA panel store.

Apart from removing a few "useless" apps, able to use various root type apps (properly) such as Greenify, Titanium, Synapse etc.
But the main reason is to control a custom kernel I intend to build (time permitting). Also remove knox features and set SELinux permissive for Titanium Backup app to work correctly.
In future, I might look at a very basic ROM, but NOT on my to-do list

The processor being different is my main concern, let's hope some people will address this.
The edge is the best piece gadget I have ever owned. I'd be sorted if these issues were sorted.

Post in Q&A where your "question" belongs.
It's OT and nothing to do with my general statement of intention to develop this beast (when I get my hands on it).
I'm going to start taking a look at kernel sources sometime today/tomorrow, so I get a head start before the device arrives (Friday? )

S6+'s last chance before i drop it in battery acid

So randomly my phone a few weeks ago just shut off.. Thinking the battery died i put it on the charger to see it go in some stupid boot loop with "custom binary blocked by frp lock"
What i have tried is the following:
Odin - loaded new software on it same thing happened couldn't get past the custom binary blocked by frp lock
Downloaded Kies and Smart switch tried that both... same thing again custom binary blocked by frp lock
Took it to a Samsung repair place and they couldn't get past the custom binary blocked by frp lock...
so im posting this up as a last chance kinda thing before i take it to school Monday and drop it in battery Acid.
Thx.

Use samfirmtool(available at xda) because it downloads latest firmware for spesific region. Odin stock should fix this(have seen it did in many cases), yet you should google it 'how to bypass frp lock on note 5' there are few ways through these youtube videos etc. Good luck.
Edit: Sorry I thought this is note 5 forum lol. But shoud be same process.

Lenovo TAB 4 8 (TB-8504F) Firmware catastrophe

I've recently been having issues with a tablet device of mine (Lenovo Tab 4 8 TB-8504F) which I tried to downgrade to Android Nougat from the latest and very unstable Android Oreo version that was on it using QPST and a "Stock Firmware" from FirmwareFile.com (Bad idea) The funny thing was.... It wasn't. I tried to go back using their official repair tool (Rescue and Smart Assistant) and I ended up with an even more broken version of Android Oreo with no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth capability. Now I'm stuck with a tablet with no internet access. I know for a fact that the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work, it's just I can't seem to find an actual official Firmware for my device. Hope someone can help.
They don't offer any repair tools(from what i know), they do give a tool to flash it though, format it using recovery then flash it using their tool, this did work for me, then i flashed patched magisk file, hope this helps.

follow the guide on how to use the flashing tool (you have to make it match the config with the rom that's why it's broken), It should unbrick your device although it will wipe your data since it will flash your entire device. Make sure that the firmware also matches with your device.

I would imagine that their official tool https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/downloads/ds101291-rescue-and-smart-assistant-lmsa
would give me the correct one. It downloads it from their official servers using the Serial Number S/N to identify what you should get. but with my problems, I think you can tell it doesn't work. hence why I'm stuck.
But in recent hours I've managed to be able to get into TWRP (Bootloader is now also unlocked if useful), but whatever action I do e.g. Install .zip or Backup, it just has a scrolling bar and that's it. it does nothing else. I have no idea why it's doing such an odd thing. despite using the "Best Version" for my device according to a comment on a post I've seen in past.

I've used over 5 different firmware files, they all either have no Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, or are not official and are filled with bloatware or are missing whole suites of software. The official tool that I sent a link to (The Lenovo Recovery Software) Only gives the choice of one firmware that IS official. but it doesn't have any Wi-Fi or Bluetooth on my device.
I know it's not an issue with hardware for sure.

Make sure that your firmware matches 100%, please try to install the firmware of the cpu using their tool from firmwarefile. That's what's probably causing it. Bet that mobile data won't work either
I can't identify which one I need from here https://firmwarefile.com/lenovo-tab-4-8-tb-8504f. I've used them all before but I can't remember which were good. Some are completely outrageously bad and change the boot logo and other odd stuff.
The only thing I know is that it's a type ZA2B.

neat, okay now I know where I went wrong. but firmwarefile.com doesn't have any QcomDloader firmwares that I can actually download. I need to get a link to one. would you be able to see whether you can find one that works? (Make sure it ends with ROW Cause that's what the original firmware was)
The only ones I can find are on Google Drive and they end with this page...
Strange enough It's been like this for over a year and a half. (how long I've had the device like this)
And that's why I never used the tool cause it has a lot harder of firmware to get.
