[Poll] Which one is your favorite custom 2.2 ROM and why?

So there are a few different ROMs out there from different developers and we want to thank them all for doing such a great work. Well I do any way. And as there has been questions on which ROM is their favorite, please post a comment to why the ROM you have chosen are your favorite and also list all the ROMs you tested so we know that you didn't just choose the first one
EDIT: I do realize that kernels does play a role in some of the aspects to why you choose the ROM you do. So just vote in according with what kernel comes with the ROM initially and then add comments to what the different kernel does it you changed it.
Note from OP: Just because you haven't tested all the ROMs that doesn't make your opinion less. It just allows us to know that you haven't tested them all. However if you put down information on why you like it it will help other people make a good decision on what they want to get. I agree there is plenty of ROMs out there. I have tested Macnut and Onyx. Right now I'm flashing Axura just because people have tested it and like it a lot and I want to form my own opinion.

Im running axura 2,04 right now. Ive ran a few of TW roms in the past. But for me the axura rom is the smoothest rom, even without a lag fix. Also everything about it is just pretty. Master has done a wonderful job.

I'm a loyal Macnut user. Its the smoothest/fastest ROM I've tried so far and with the EB-Productions stock kernel the battery life is amazing.

Not to isolate any one developer, as I think they ALL are amazing and we are all very fortunate.. I personally am really digging Axura right now. I heard master may be getting a Mytouch though?

I've only flashed one ROM on my Vibrant and that's Auxura. Went from Stock JI6 to 2.0.3 to 2.0.4 and now 2.0.5
It's a great, clean, fast ROM. I didn't flash a kernel so I assume I am still using the one from JI6. I had been considering some others before I found this one. Couldn't decide. I found the youtube video for Axura and it looked good enough for me to want to try it. I really don't see trying any others right now. This one is perfect.
Oh, and Master did get a MT4G.

No you are running stock JK2 kernel with Axura if you didn't flash any custom kernels on top of it.

Axura, quick, good battery life, and constant updates.

I think we are fortunate that we can even have this debate. There are so many good 2.2 ROMs on here that it is getting harder and harder to choose a BEST ROM! I admit I haven't tried all the ones listed so I don't know if my vote should count but I have been EXTREMELY happy with Onyx 4.2 so I voted for Onyx.

Axura is smooth and sexy....just how I like it. The transitions between menus, super fast response and extremely stable make it the perfect choice!

Im Running Axura 2.0.4 and i must say that it is Really Fantastic. The GPS works really fast and is very accurate. Battery life is Amazing. 2.0.5 got released but i already conditioned the battery so i dont want to go throught the whole process again. But i really love this rom and thats coming from a guy who used Obsidian. Out of Obsidian and Axura, Axura wins everywhere: theme, bloatware removed, battery life, gps, and name. =D

im personally running Onyx 4.2 w/ ULF Kernel....i used to run the FrankinTwiz Final ROM before i went to Bionix Fusion....then i went to Obsidian to run Froyo with speed and stabilty....now im running Onyx because its TouchWiz free...and with the Universal Lagfix Kernel ported from i9000....its "pick your poison" speed and customization. im sticking with Team Whiskey till they're dead or i find someone better

Im running Obsidian v5 currently until ViralBlack gets done skinning Onyx R5. I use the stock jk2 kernel for battery life, but ULF and the new voodoo are very promising. I like the blacked out theme of Onyx; Team Whiskey's ROMs always run great; and the bloat is removed in Onyx (otherwise I'd just remove it myself with Titanium Backup). I use LauncherPro instead of TW launcher.
A question though: isn't Axura just a theme/mod?

I am running Onyx v4.2 with a OC/UV 1.4 Ghz BLN kernel [tester] and using the OCLF 2.2 ext lag fix from RyanZA. I have been using Team Whiskey ROMs since Bionix v1.8 and have not looked back since. I have tried other various ROMs in between out of curiosity but nothing runs as good as a Team Whiskey ROM IMHO. They are the only ROMs/Kernels that go on my phone now.

Im running Eugene's ROM. Did you guys flash Auxora and Onyx? Or did u have to use Odin? Im thinking bout trying another ROM after reading this post

Yes, you flash the ROMs through ClockworkMod Recovery. Do you have that on your phone? Head over to www.teamwhiskey.com and you can get all of the TW ROMs there!!

Cool thread to kind of talk about all the different ROMs. I love what TW does for the community but im not a fan aesthetically. the best 2.2 i has was Anderdroids AOSPish with the ebkanged kernel #2, NASTY battery life. Was feeling Macnutr12 but too samsung-y. Actually havent tried Axura, guess i should...but for those of you who are TW donator's on their board check out Myjollir (probably way off, but its Thor's Hammer) its for donators only and different and really cool STABLE with ULF OC/UV. But mad props to TW for development progression, and to Eugene for progression and the AMAZING kernels

I love Obsidian ROM. Best battery life and smooth even without lagfixes! Onyx is also good but I like stock'ish look of launcher.
Also, Eugen's kernels are promising with his Macnut project! But now the main benefit of TeamWhiskeys ROMs(kernels) is a battery life in a sleep mode (0.2-0.4% per hour vs 2-4% per hour on Macnut R12 without stock kernel) Also you can use Macnut with stock kernel and battery seems to be as good as tw's roms.

i have changed between several 2.2 ROMs and I landed on Macnut R12 with stock kernel. I have FFC mod so limits my choices a bit. I like Macnut because the flash work around works on it to get me hulu that I cannot get to work on other ROMs. I also like the amount of FFC support it has. It seems that other ROMs that support FFC are buggy with it where Macnut is not. I know from being around the community for some time now that Eugene373 is very good at what he makes and is known for stability. BUT i think that all of the different 2.2 ROMs there are subtle differences that each will like personally better. I don't think one is necessarily better than the rest but that personal preferences make us like one the most. That's the case with me anyway. Good thread!

Being a student, and thus a professional procrastinator, i have spent hours and hours and days and days reading forums, flashing things, getting freaked out because i think i've bricked my phone, etc etc...
I think i've hit the motherload re ROMS. The reason why i'm posting this is because it took me over a month of browsing forums in my spare time to find it... DebusROM.
Battery life is amazing - to the point of being irritating if you're TRYING to drain your battery flat for batterystats.bin reset reasons.
Performance is really great too.
I've flashed from Darky 9.5 (awesome, a tad buggy) to Darky v10 RC 5 (not final) (also awesome, a tad more buggy). As amazed as i was when i first experienced a custom ROM's improvement - thats how amazed i am at DebusROM. Fast, best battery life i've ever experienced, and BUG-FREE!
I had a random reboot issue when i first flashed, which made me cautious, however the DebusROM thread supplies a patch which fixes this issue.
Very happy. Hoping to spread the good news, and help DebusROM become as mainstream as Darky or CyanogeMod...
I'd digg to hear what others have experienced using this ROM.

In my case, battery issue was more related to calibration and kernel than the roms. I can hold 2 to 3 days on a standard (OEM) rom (running JVH now). Only the first "drain" is "quicker", but you HAVE TO totally drain the battery and charge it to 100%, then it's all good!

sidenote: it sounds like (from this great article) that calibration doesn't actually affect battery life, just the correctness of the battery indicator.

What are your thoughts on an OEM rom like JVH versus something like CyanogenMod7? I'm curious, as I am also on Bell with an i9000m and had nothing but difficulty with getting a JVH rom to install properly so that I could test it.

imho cm7 is not worth the efford yet, theres no benefit over a good customized samsung rom.

Well, I've used darky's 9.X before GingerBread was out "officially", but I haven't tried CM7 since I don't feel the need to. JVH is faster than Darky's with LagFixes, so it's not "worth" it IMHO
As for issue with switching to JVH, it can be done pretty easely, if your modem is already "fixed" to use any modem others than JL2/KC1 or you'll need to flash a 850Hz compatible modem after you flash JVH (both way are quite simple, but I prefer to have the modem that came with the rom) with ODIN.

Of course it woun't affect battery life, by definition, calibration means "putting the right borders"
Calibrating a sensor won't affect how the monitored system works, only states the REAL Min and Max value

I'm afraid you are very wrong there are huge improvements in cm7 that you won't find in custom Sammy roms
I'm nowhere near a cm fan boy but i've tried loads of customs and this runs the best battery life could be better but performance can not be beat i didn't wanna rant but I think you are very misinformed

CM7 is vanilla android - you won't get a whiff of anything Samsung.

I was with darkys roms as my daily till I switched to cm7 now the difference is as follows

Based on factory Sammy roms with some custom code/tweaks
Meaning darky gets 2.2 Sammy rom opens it up cleans it up a bit fiddles here and there and boom one darkys rom
CM7
Is ASOP meaning it is the android untouched by a company i.e SAMMY, HTC etc etc its what you get with a pure Google phone like the G1 for instance
So it has all the stuff you got from Google so ext4 file system as default all the gingerbread bells and whisle like overscroll and what not
It is still customed but there is more coding because things have to be built to work with our beloved sgs hardware as the phone was designed to run Sammy drivers
Hope that was clear enuf and I was accurate its just what I believe is correct if I am wrong someone people educate me

Tried CM but was depressed by it.
Also had this story, exact same situation. Even got pissed of new GB rom that battery drain was so slow (wanted to reset stats)
Was on 9.5 darky, flashed to RC3. All good, but disappoint compared to proper GB rom.
I'm using Simply Honey now, it's basically thesame to Debusrom, as with Juwe. Looking to try Simply Honey 3.4 or Juwe 4.2 or new Debus, which are all equally awesomeness.

cm7 is reli disappointing. the battery drain is crazy. otherwise will reli stick to it.
now on darky's rc6 and was on rc3 be4 trying miui and cm7.

The battery situation is much improved. Most of us now manage a day+ of normal use. If that was the only thing keeping you on the Samsung ROMs, try out the easy new install procedure and see cm7 for yourself again.

[Q] Liten ing, Villain or stock?

I'm due to get my shiny new s2 in a couple of days after finally having enough of the endless problems with my SE Arc. Being a noob my flashing skills are pretty limited so I normally root my phone and that's all. After pouring over threads the common theme is battery life however battery life appears to be better using a custom rom and flashing them doesn't seem too difficult.
The only thing is, I dont want to have any issues because I'm stick to death of problems coming from the arc. Do either have any problems? The threads for each of them is thousands of posts long and after reading to first 20 pages of each I've given up. If there are too many issues I'll stay stock but better battery life would be good

I've been running Litening ROM's on my phone for the last few weeks, without a single problem, much better than stock ROM. I'd recommend trying them all (flashing is really easy on the GS2) until you find which one you prefer

Stick with stock for a few weeks to get the feel of the phone

lemar 2.1 is a excellent rom to start with and easy to flash as well . No problems with the rom and lots of extras .
Defo look at lemar2.1 rom mate my sgs2 has never been so good
Stock firmware is fine too and they have done a ok job with it but the devs here are awesome and want the best from their roms and uphold their good names so their work is usaully tp notch and any errors reported by users are fixed uber quick .

I've tried Villain and Litening..the former is more like stock presentation with tweaks for optimization...so I went with the latter..i like the blue theme..and the fact it doesn't require you to wipe your data..if you follow the instructions correctly on installation,you shouldn't face any problems.Good luck!

litening rom (2.2) doubled my battery life coming from stock.

I've tried both and they are both better than stock, but I've been on Cognition since yesterday and I've liked it the most. The battery life seems better, among other things, although some people have experienced the opposite. Also, Cyanogen is coming soon, so you might want to try that when it comes out.

Glad I found this thread, I've been wanting the answer as well. It seems as though basically any rom is easy to flash so I might try a few if I can work up the nerve. Cognition looks really appealing, but I might try Villain first. Anyone know of a video displaying either of these roms in action?

I was unhappy with the stock battery life.
Started with lite pro`s rom, it was quite nice, but in the end opted for villain because pulser`s superb support for his rom.

Hello there. if you have a vibrant it is a t959. I dont use froyo anymore since we have very good choices on gingerbread ann ICS. Iam on Skankwich CM9 Kang...very nice. You can find good choices if you search. Im my opinion a custom rom is better. You need to find out by yourself wich one you like and works better according to your needs. How? ...flashing!!

I wouldn't run ICS if you don't feel like tinkering with your ROM. The GPS is inconsistent, and there will be little bugs every now and again as the developers continue to refine the base builds that will require you to keep an eye on the ROM you flashed for updates.
None of the bugs I found in ICS are real show stoppers depending on what you expect out of your phone (besides that encryption unsuccessful problem which is a big issue), but there were enough that I only flash ICS every month or so just to see how things are. I always come back to Froyo just for the sake of everything working.
Moped Ryder's EZ_Ryder/Slim_Ryder are good Froyo builds, but I, personally, always fall back to either Bionix-V 1.3.1 or Fishman's Bionix-V Mod with the DragonModz or Overstock kernel. That combo with the Holo launcher fits my needs just right.

Hey, if you're going for stability, battery life, speed, and performance...then a custom rom from the development is certainly better than stock froyo in my opinion. And..luckily enough, we have some great developers in the froyo department at the moment. I've tried a lot of Fish's builds and they are all awesome...but I had some of the best battery life and such on his updated Deranged rom

Froyo / GB is all I use for now. Dont forget the issues that come along with ICS and CM7 / 9.
1. A lot don't have working 911 (e911?) or inconsistant 911 with each build.
2. ICS from my knowledge still has the Encryption Unsuccessful bug.
3. For me at least gps works best on Froyo.
4. Possible mute/unmute bug (rare)
Those two are the deal breakers for me. Im a father of 3 so I have to have a working phone with 911 at all times.

If you find any old Froyo / GB rom and would like me (or Fishman) to update it to current status just ask.

Custom ROMs - sharing a beginner's experience

As a long time Android user and general nerd, I often hear from some of my friends about new and cool custom ROMs. It ranges from "amazing customization" to "blazing speed" and even "far better than anything stock in general".
So this weekend I decided that since my warranty is no longer valid anyway, and Samsung won't be updating the Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 anymore, I can go ahead and try something new and shiny, which could help me with my job.
And thus began my research and tests on Android custom ROMs...and oh boy, that was one hell of an experience.
Everything I heard from people about nearly everything was shattered right then and there.
As a reasonable person, I decided to try some of the more popular ROMs, trying to stick as much as possible to stable builds since everyday use is a big deal for me. So now I present to you, my experience with what I was told are the top-dogs of the custom ROM world and my impressions of each:
Omni 4.4.2
This one actually surprised me in terms of it's video driver. As some might know, a bunch of Gameloft published games always show washed out colors on the Galaxy S2, but when used, this ROM showed the correct colors...quite shocking! ...however, it turned out to be highly unstable with apps crashing left and right all the time and often for no real reason. This ROM is not really advertised as "stable" so I guess that was understandable, so I decided to move on.
MIUI v5
This ROM was just impressive. I absolutely love the UI (and I didn't even try the customization stuff, yet I say that!). It seemed really stable and I almost decided to stick with it...until I found out that 3 apps in particular I very much rely on don't work properly or at all (overlay issues it seems). This got me really disappointed but I figured functionality is more important than looks so once again, I decided to move on.
CyanogenMod 10.3.1
This might be the biggest disappointment for all the wrong reasons. The buildup and hype I got from people about it created in my head "the ultimate ROM"...but after installing it and doing some tests...I have to say, the performance difference was just barely noticeable and i all honesty, not worth the trade for the bugs it also brings (although if it had the video driver from Omni I would've changed my mind). I really wanted to do a fair judgement since I know this is the top-dog of ROMs (or at least in popularity) so I even ran tests on it...and in games, the framerate difference between stock and CM10.3 was just 2-5fps.
Resurrection Remix 4.0.7
This was...let me just say it out loud - the installation for this ROM should be a standard - just incorporate some stuff and have people chose what to get or don't get. Having stock stuff and then 10 additional flashable ZIPs while not really a big issue is just a time-waster for a lot of people in my eyes (although it would've been nice to know more about the modems when it asks you for a choice). Anyway, this ROM's keyboard just refused to work so I got rid of it after 2 flashes.
ReVolt JB 4.5
...keyboard didn't work on this one again, and after another 2 flash attempts, I scrapped it aswell.
At this point I pretty much just gave up and went back to the Samsung stock ROM for my region and was left with an empty feeling that custom ROMs all seem to have at least one or more huge flaws.
All the buildup and "legends" (lacking a better term) weren't even close to what I experienced (except the MIUI...well, UI) and it got me thinking...are custom ROMs meant for everyday users or they were always aimed at people willing to experiment? Personally, I decided that my journey through the custom ROM world has ended here at least for the time being (maybe someday I'll go back to MIUI but who knows), but I wanted to ask, does anyone feel the same way I do? That custom ROMs, while a really cool thing to be able to have is getting overhyped to the point where unless you really know what you're getting into will lead to just disappointment?
I would really like to hear other people's views on this, especially if you're not an expert user.

Resurrection Remix 4.0.7 worked fine for me. the only problem is the System UI that usually crashes when you messed up on something and it really need some reboot for that. ☺

First of all, having a rooted phone gives a lot of new possibilities.
Besides, custom roms give new content, like the latest android updates, which the constructors take time to port to their devices.
At last but not least, custom ROMs often let you.. customize as much as thou wish

You schould try another 4.4.2 custom roms for egz pound rom(the best for me) or beanstalk which is good too

I actually just root my stock ROM with the SuperSU flashable ZIP-thingie...though I only need it for a firewall ^-^;;
But to me one of the biggest deal-breakers is how all the ROMs I did like don't support MHL (if only MIUI was capable of that )

In my opinion you've to choose a stabile ROM if you don't want any problems

That's kind'a the thing, CM 10.3.1 is the one shown as stable and it seems to be...but it's missing features that the stock ROMs offer, and the performance difference is pretty much not noticeable enough to justify it for me.
All the ROMs except Omni were shown as "stable" but as i mentioned in my first post, all seem to have at least 1 big issue.
As a side question...I heard the newest version of MIUI actually had MHL/TV-out support on the S2...anyone know if that's true?

I only use my phone for basic stuff.So I just use a stock rom with a custom kernel.That way, everything works and I dont have to read 2000 posts to see what problems to expect.

Stock CM kernel isn't all that great IMO , Try coupling Dorimanx's kernel with CM or any other ROM... Adds a lot of power features with stability. stock Sammy Roms feel very caged and unoptimized thus the need for custom builds. Give it time... It grows on you eventually.

I only use my phone for basic stuff.So I just use a stock rom with a custom kernel.That way, everything works and I dont have to read 2000 posts to see what problems to expect.

After 2 years of trying to find a custom ROM that doesn't have one show-topping bug, I feel bad for not just staying with a nicely optimized stock ROM with a tweaked kernel that is 100% dependable when I need it.
So, +1 :good:

Well, I only recently got the S2. Before my S2, I've owned an HTC One V. The stock ROM on that thing was just a mess. It came with 4.0.4 ICS and... you guessed it... no update to JB. So I installed a custom ROM on that one... it improved nearly everything.
So, from my experiences with that device, I thought I could flash the S2 and get the same experience. And... well, not really. I have tried so many ROMs...
The AOSP based ROMs either drain battery like hell or have any other bug which is so impacting that I can't deal with it. For example, the Audio 50% bug. Just one word: Annoying.
SO, I could stay with a Samsung stock ROM, but well, that won't be an option for me. Why not? Simple, on the stock rom, using my phone for an hour, literally ONE HOUR, the thing is completely dead. Battery empty. The only stock rom which gives me two and half an hour of screen on time is the 2.3.3 GB stock. And well, that's a bit old nowadays.
The by far best combination for power, speed, stability and battery life for me is CM10.1 stable with the DorimanX 9.14 kernel. I've tried it once and I find myself going back to it pretty much everytime I flashed any ROM I do not like.
Currently I'm on CM11 unofficial nightly, tomorrow I will see for how long my battery can last. I know, my battery is probably broken, but it's not thicker than normal or something like that. It just drains and I have no idea why.

I get up to 14 days with my battery if it's just on Standby [no actual use] and up to a full day if I play some games on it with the Stock ROM.
Also I wanted to mention that I tried DorimanX 8.43 earlier today and my god, my phone became unstable as hell [still on a stock ROM]...odd.
But yeah, you might want to get a new battery if you get less than 16 hours battery life

Hello. I want share my experience. I moved from stock because i want try 4.2 new features, specially widget on lockscreen.
I first tryied cm 10.2 but battery drained quickly and gaming was so sloooow.I tryied then cm10.2 linaro but experienced 4-5 reboot a day. Now I'm back on cm10.2 hoping that the guy working on exynos drivers will bring good news. In the meanwhile I will try gustavo or apolo kernel that seems the most stable kernels

I have found only 2-3 Roms that can be used
I can say that i have installed allmost all posible ROMs. For me every rom whit verson of android above 4.1.2 just didn't work ( i have SD CARD problems in most of the ROM's in other i have encored camera problems or bootloops ) The only ROM working realy good is snapdragon and s4fors2 .
IF ANY ONE KHNOWS HOW TO SOLVE MY SD-CARD PROBLEMS ON ANY ROM WITH ANDROID VERSION ABOVE 4.1.2 PM me PLS

CyanFox Rom is the most stable and worked for me as well. Give it a try!!
For Battery Backup, maybe you can use Voltage Control Pro App, Underclock to 1 GHZ if you are not a hardcore gamer. You can also decrease voltage,more Options over mv are also available in Pro Version, Decreasing Voltage will help lower power consumption of CPU.
You can also install Siyah Latest Kernel and do all of this using S-Tweaks!
