Hey i'm a noob here and i have a question
Is there any way to enable 1080p on my iconia so i can watch full hd movies like all the other honeycomb tablets out there? I have now flashed the virtuous picasso v1.0.8 rom and i noticed that i still can't watch 1080p videos on youtube. So my question is if there is any rom or kernel that can enable 1080p video playback?
Advanced thanks
you may try to use stock rom 4.010.22 or above which can automatically switch to 1080p output while playing 1080p video.

Are you talking about HDMI out? If Yes, then there are ROMs that can output 1080p trough HDMI. If you are talking about 1080p playback on the device itself then NO! There is NO Honeycomb tablet (yet) that can do 1080p in Adobe flash (youtube and others)
1080p
movies is lagging at 1080p this is killing me.
I am on the ota 3.1
If you're watching on the tablet itself, there's no point in watching 1080p. The screen only has 800px vertical pixels (landscape). Just use 720p on the tab. If going out to HDMI, are you getting lag?

There is still NO Hardware acceleration (for video) in Honeycomb so ALL of the Honeycomb tablets have this issue! ONLY MP4 Codec (h.264 Base) is supported and any other file format will use software rendering (slow choppy)!! Honeycomb is still an incomplete OS.
Oh and if someone is wondering why his/hers Android smartphone plays video better, the answer is simple: Most manufacturers enhance codec support on their devices(Samsung the most) and Android 2.2/2.3 is more polished OS with a lot of support! Another problem is that nVidia have still not made a driver for honeycomb that takes advantage of the hardware decoder in Tegra2
Example: My 7" Samsung Galaxy TAB although with only a single core CPU can play ANY 1080p I have thrown at it! But it is running Android 2.3.4
but samsung tabs does it, doesn't it ?

Nope! NO Honeycomb Tablet can display properly 1080p (other than MP4 h.264 Base) video!
Oh yes sorry, I've just reached the friend of mine that told me, he has indeed a galaxy tab but with gingerbread !
thanks for the info

We have a lot of size options when recording but I only see option to record in 3gp format? Or am I missing something?
Edit: Plus the PDF from T-Mobile does not have an HD option listed on there...
Hey I up this one,
i'm also wondering if it is possible to record in some other format than 3gp, like they can on the DHD for instance.
Reading 3gp is a pain, i can't plug my phone to my TV to watch a video I recorded, and it's hardly watchable on a random computer without installing an other player.
Nope, that's the only format that the camera is capable of recording to on official ROMs. Not sure about custom ROMs though. I wish I could record in WMV, AVI or MP4.

Virtuous unity is mp4 720p max.
Apparently virtuous doubleshot is mp4 1080p for the Z. No lag if you OC @ 1.7-2.0 ghz!
Eww that much OC is not necessary for me, neither I need to record 1080p.
But that's a good news !
I will switch to Unity then thanks !

Be careful here, apparently, of what a member told me, its a 1080p upscaling method. The hardware is the limitation.
Yup, it is a hardware limitation. The sensor just can't record 1080p.

It's ok, I'm currently using Virtuous Unity, and it records in 720P .mp4.
The mp4 part was the most important for me, as I can now plug and watch on my tv.

I just realized that the ROM I'm running on, meXdroidRom actually records in MP4! In the m4v container~
oK is it just me or we all have the same problem, downloaded HD videos from youtube and it wont play. Anyone??
??? anyone?
Try a different video player. If that doesnt work then there may bot be the correct codec available

Try Mobo Player. Also, Atrix hasn't had 1080p update from Moto, so if your videos are 1080p they likely won't play if I am thinking correctly.

I believe your attempting to play baseline or highline x264. Unfortunately our nvidea chip will not run that. But, I'm not sure if it is a problem that can be fixed through software. Anyone?

i have done some research on this matter, yes the tegra chip won't play any high profile x264 HD movie (either 720p or 1080p). you have to convert it to main profile x264 and it will play fine.
u can try "handbrake" to convert it and our beloved Atrix will play. you can make a google search to see the tutorial for converting using "handbrake"

Try using arc media player, out is available on that market for free. Let me know if out works for you

I have not come across a video, hd or otherwise, that I could not play on my Atrix. If one player doesn't work, I go to another one.
The best player for atrix is moboplayer with codec pack.
I can play most of my movies without problems in HD but I have great news for HD mkv viewer.
Power DVD are developing a application which can play HD mkv movies and more.
I read it on androidpit.de

ok thank you so much
The screen on the xoom can only display 720p content, as it does not have enough pixels to give you the full 1080. So it is easier to watch videos in the lower resolution (still use mobo), as it draws less resources to do so.

Hello everyone, there is an application that allows you to record what's happening on screen, however, such a screenshot Video
You can only do this on Android if you have a rooted device.
You could output to hdmi to your pc and record the screen on the PC using video capture software, or output to your TV and record it via VHS.
just an idea.
I would like an app Screencast & Recorder, however, that functions of honeycomb
You can try ShootMe - however the FPS will be around 8 at best.
Screencast Video recorder sounds the best, but it does not support Tegra 2 devices :S
shootme in the market so there is not compatible with honeycomb

No. The best one out there (Screencast) will not work on our Transformers because Tegra 2 does not support Neon.

UPDATE: Please close this thread, theos0o has created a modded youtube apk that allows playing HD with any DPI! Get it here
-----------------------------------------------
http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/02/youtube-android-app-update-brings-hd-video-streaming-to-capable/
Need!
I went to Galaxy Note forums, they dumped the apk that allowed them to do that. Unfortunately, it's the same 2.4.4 YouTube, and I didn't notice any difference. No HQ option, only HD (how the hell is 480p "HD", I will never know).
So I'm assuming there's a screen rez or phone model number check that doesn't allow 720p streaming in the app.
I'm hoping our brilliant devs can come up with a tweak to allow for HD streaming on SGSII.
P.S: if you think there's no difference between 480p and 720p on SGSII screen - oh boy, have you been missing out, son.
P.P.S: I'm not an idiot. Before you down-vote the thread, actually get off your lazy ass and see the difference between 480p and 720p video on SGS2.
UPDATE: If you're running Youtube app v2.4.4 (GB) or 3.x (ICS), set your DPI in build.prop to 182 and you'll have 720p video in youtube =)
Calling on devs to make a hack for the app to make it always think you're running high-dpi, without the need to change it there.. That'd be awesome!
Do you feel that there is a perceivable difference between 800/854*480 and 1280/720 on our S2?

Yes, there is a very, very significant difference.
Watch any of the Starcraft II commentaries in 480p then try it in 720p. You'll just how much better it is.
I think it has to do with subpixels, pixels on samoled just don't traslate the same as on a regular lcd screen, I think. Whatever the reason, there's a huge difference.
Im on 182dpi rom and it seems that my youtube videos are in 720p... Tried in browser 480p and it is much more pixelated than hd option in youtube app... In the app the hd option is awesome...

I just set 182 DPI in build.prop and I got HD option!! Yay!! Looks awesome.
If only someone would hack it into always allowing for HD video, without the need to run high DPI settings..
Im on vertrema 4.8... I do it with dpi changer from market... Sometimes is necessary to wipe market settings to make it recognise the changed dpi...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
The difference probably has more to do with the higher bitrate and less compression that youtube applies to 720p videos compared to 480p ones than with the resolution, since a widescreen 480p video at 852x480 is already larger than the dimensions of the SGS2 screen. The SGS2 has a normal RGB subpixel layout and even if it did have a pentile matrix or anything else, the picture would still get sent to the screen in its nominal resolution of 800x480.
That said, I can certainly believe that a 720p version would look better and is worth trying.
Yeah, I'm not entirely certain why 720p looks better than 480p, maybe because the down-sampling that youtube makes is worse than when the video is down-sampled by SGSII on-the-fly. Better algorithms, perhaps.
Whatever the case, I'm happy now =) I just hope someone hacks the app so that it reports high-DPI even when build.prop has 240 or whatever.
I Update the YouTube APP and don't play videos in HD, only on HQ, the SGSII doesn't support HD?

@theos0o, I have been using your Modded Youtube 3.5.5 on my CM9(ICS) Rom and it works. I get to see videos in HD(720p). Thanks for the great youtube mod.
Note: If any one is using CM9 nightlies Rom then the latest version of the gapps does not have the youtube app. Just download the modded youtube app from the above link and install it. If you had installed the youtube app from the play store then just simply remove it and install this one.
