So for the last 5 days I had some very weird problems with my phone. About 2 weeks ago I started with my first Cronos Rom and it worked great. I flashed 1.5 and 1.5.1 without problems and I used it without an ext partition all the time. But then the problems started. When I wiped my whole phone and tried to reinstall 1.5.1 JIT, the phone didnt boot anymore (stuck on the "Android" bootscreen). I wiped again and again, tried 1.5.1 without JIT, 1.5 etc, but I couldt get the phone to work. Nothing worked, so I created an ext partition and tried again. It worked. My phone started and I was able to use it for about a day without problems though I didnt want apps2sd. But then some other weird things happened. 3 Days ago I bought a bigger SD Card, partitioned it, wiped the whole phone and flashed 1.5.1 JIT. The phone started, but after I installed a few apps, I got an error message (installing xxx failed). I found out that theres an "repair ext" function, and it worked, but after I installed some more apps, the problem was back. The second problem was, that after rebooting the phone, more and more apps wouldnt start anymore (FC). The last problem that occured was an FC of the market app. After that, I wiped everything again, tried to flash 1.5.1 JIT, but it happened exactly the same like on the first time. Problems installing apps, FCs, stuck on boot etc.
I am totally down at the moment because I killed my whole weekend trying to get my phone working again. Could anyone please help my with this? I just dont understand what I did wrong. Shouldnt a complete wipe fix almost every problem? And I dont understand why I suddenly cant use my phone without an ext partition. Any Cronos version I try freezes on bootscreen without an ext patition. Is there any way to get my hero working again? Please please help me.
(PS: I also posted this on the Cronos Board.)
I would take out the sd card, wipe system and dalvik cache, and install some custom rom.
well, to make sure it is NOT your phone, did you try another ROM? Eliminate possible problems?
At least try something that is known and stable, like a stock rom, the Taiwain-rooted-repacks (not a rom based on it, but just the taiwan rom rooted) or good ol' MoDaCo 3.2 (based on 1.5 stock).
Til now I just tried the last 2 or 3 Cronos Roms, and as I said, they didnt work, but when I get home from work I'll try the Modaco Rom I used before.
I dont understand what this has to do with the Rom I use. I always wiped the whole phone, dalvik, etc. so shouldnt it just work like the first time I flashed it? No matter what Rom I use?
Another weird thing (could have something to do with this): After I wiped everything and flashed Cronos 1.5.1 JIT, the market still knew what apps I had installed last time. It showed my bought apps AND the apps I was able to install before the latest crash. So does this mean the phone wasnt wiped completely?
The market tracks your purchases and (free) downloads through your google account. So that's normal that the download-list is full.
But it might very well be that you didn't wipe correctly, although I'm curious how you manage to accomplish that. What is your current recovery?
The whole point about trying another ROM is elimination. It doesn't need to make sense, but you need to check things of the list.
There is something weird going on, so trying to solve it logically will only get you so far . Keep trying to narrow down the list of causes. Might well be a bug with Cronos 1.5, or the overclock not working these days because your phone is just a bit hotter than before, who knows.. Like I said: eliminate causes!
I'm using the newest AmonRa recovery to wipe the phone.
Theres one thing I forgot: Yesterday I flashed 1.5.1 without JIT, and then 1.5.1 JIT right after it (just rebooted a few times between). The phone worked great until my SD card crashed. In the taskbar it always showed me "checking for errors"(something like that, my phone's in german ), but in my PC and in the recovery the card worked like always, so I had to wipe the card and start again from the beginning.
Try another ROM , and if that doesn't work, try without SD card.

Maybe sdcard faulty? What are the logs you get when booting up the phone?
Soooo, I wiped everything again and flashed Modaco 2.8 without an ext partition. It booted correctly, so I wiped the dalvik cache and flashed Cronos 1.5.1 JIT. It also booted (wow, first time it booted without ext since all the problems started to occur) but I instantly got FC's (phone app for example). Now I wiped completely again and flashed 1.5.1 JIT. I hope it boots, as I still dont have an ext partition. As soon as I know something new, I'm gonna tell you.
So now it seems like its working again. I was able to install all the apps I need without a single error and now I'm restoring my settings and contacts. Suddenly it even works without ext again.
I guess there was something very big f*ked up that I couldnt repair by simple wiping the phone. Very weird that just flashing Modaco got it running again. Now I have back my working phone with ultrafast Cronos Rom and without App2SD, perfect. At least till now I hope it keeps working.
Thanks for your help guys, I think I would have smashed the phone to the wall sooner or later. I never thought about flashing Modaco so I'm happy there are people like you.
Thanks again, and thanks to Feeyo for his unbelievable Rom.
PS: Can I uninstall, Facebook and Footprints without destroying everything again?
Yes, just delete both apps using ADB or use a root explorer, search both apps in System/app and delete them.
Or you could use the MoDaCo online kitchen for removing those apps.
Hello Forum!
After using a G1 with stock Android 1.6 for quite a while, about 1 month ago I decided to try out a custom ROM.
With ROMmanager I installed clockwork recovery and Cyanogen 6.0. Some time later I switched to 6.1 RC1. I don't know why, but Cyanogen turned out to be very slow on my G1, so 2 days ago I decided to go back to the original one. For this, from ROMmanager I selected the backup made before 1st flashing to be restored.
So far, everything went ok. Stock 1.6 is back and runs smoothly. However, the keyboard layout is wrong. I've german keyboard layout. That was correct with 1.6 and also with Cyanogen. But after restore it's wrong.
I tried to restore the system partition from the backup again (in nandroid), where the keyboard layout files are. Even after resetting to factory default (from 1.6 system menu) that didn't change.
Any idea what went wrong and how I can fix this?
I've searched the forum and Google for over an hour, and I cannot find any information on this issue. I am trying to install attn1's R012 ROM. I previously installed the R008 build a couple of months ago, and I have had no issues. I want to upgrade to the latest build, but I am running into a problem when doing a Nandroid backup. As the title to the post suggests, on the last step of the backup, it seems to freeze at "Generating md5 sum...". I have let it sit for over an hour now, and it is still frozen.
I cannot find any information on the root cause of this problem or the resolution. Could anyone shed some light on this for me? And help is greatly appreciated!
What speed SD card do you have? That would be the only real variable as to why your phone is having issues - there could be a timing issue if you are using a real slow card.
have you done a nandroid backup before with no issues? is this a new problem or has it existed previously?
Thank you both for your replies. The SD card is a Transcend 8GB Class 6, and yes, I have done a Nandroid backup before, prior to installing attn1's R008 ROM. I had no issues with that backup.
Also, to at least use my phone for now, I did a battery pull. I tried running the backup again, with the same result.
if your old backup was created normally, i would recommend reflashing that backup and trying installing the new rom again.
reinstalling your apps may be a pain, but it seems like your best chance at restoring the functionality of your phone. or simply wipe everything and install a new rom.
thats happened to me before, right after i flashed a new kernel! It sucked! i had to wipe
Checked around but no details for my prob...
Suddenly getting many FCs for software that was previously working... Namely HD games that others state work fine on Iconia. Software that was working fine 2 days ago, suddenly FC immediately after startup.
I'm running Stock 3.1 rom rooted, with a tweaked kernel (thor latest).
Anyone else getting similar issues lately? Bit of a noob but would love to avoid a wipe or flashing a new rom...
Greatful for any advice from you experts... Do lead thru in baby steps... Ta!!
what about a wipe of just the data for one of the offending apps?
Some are newly downloaded from market e.g. "Diversion". Odd, as it was working along with others perfectly fine a day or 2 ago. Now it's like a plague of software immediately FCing...
Possibly need to do a CWM wipe of data or a factory reset (makes me nervous) or bite the bullet and try a clean 3.2 rom with root...
Any further advice?
I got something similar with stock 3.1, no hd or tegara apps working all FC. happened after a live wall got distorted or corrupted, the same way like video corruption on PC, before this i had installed sprinkle game. Fixed it with full format, and never installed sprinkle or that live wall again.
Phew... was feeling like I was the only one! Thanks... So what way should I run a full format? How much will I lose (I do have Titanium backup throughout)? Should I even restore the Iconia Phone status via the market program BEFORE I wipe?
Sorry for panic... just want to be SAFE!
i just ran format from the settings menu, i don't know about backup
Thanks... I'll try later as a last resort. Fingers into cross-mode!
EDIT - Bit the bullet and tried a 3.2 rom... my virgin turn but seems to have worked now! Possibly a CWM use of wipe data / cache may have worked, but why not jump in the thrilling fire of flashing roms!
Hi
I recently got an OTA update notification on my Defy+ but it does not work. It is an upgrade from 2.3.4 to 2.3.5.
I am currently on this Stock ROM
4.5.1-134_DFP-74
It is rooted, 2ndInit and the only MOD is the 720p Video upgrade.
As the OTA didn't work I decided to flash a whole new SBF and chose this one
4.5.1-134-DFP-125 - CEE
I flashed it and it all went more or less okay (some slight issues with boot loops but sorted now). I also took a Nandroid backup of my 2.3.4 set up (on first flash I re flashed the Nandroid just to make sure it worked and it did).
I initially flashed the 2.3.5 SBF and then ran a Titanium Backup of all my apps and data. However, I found when I checked the ROM it was showing the 2.3.4. I realised that TB must have been flashing over all the 2.3.5 files like flashing the Nandroid back up does.
This morning I re flashed the 2.3.5 SBF and set my phone up without the TB initially and it showed as the 2.3.5 ROM in settings. After installing all my Apps from Market I used TB to install data only on some apps where I wanted to save time setting them. All were download apps (Handcent, eBay etc). The only system app I did this on was Blur Accounts.
I then checked my ROM version and it is showing it as my original Stock ROM!! I can't understand how restoring some data on some apps would do this.
Before I re flash the 2.3.5 SBF and manually install the phone can someone explain what is actually going on here please? I am assuming that by restoring some of the Titanium Backups I have set it back to the 2.3.4 ROM.
I should add the phone runs fine (if anything it is much smoother than before but that is probably due to me running script manager).
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Regards
Bump...any ideas?
