[Q] Touch screen disabled during call - HD2 General

Hello all new to site and first time posting. I just got replacement hd2 since my last one broke and I found this site and have done some registry tweaks. I have a little problem and would appreciate some advice on how to solve it. My touch screen turns off while I have a call in progress. Once I end the call, by pushing the red built in button, it comes back. Thanks in advance for any help. I did most of the tweaks listed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638 but don't see anything that appears to disable the touch screen or effect it's sensitivity.

I don't quite understand your question! Have you read the user manual?
the touchscreen turns off during a call to avoid you cancelling the call with your cheek. I's because of the proximity sensor.
Unless it turns off when the speaker is on and it's not close to your face then that's abnormal.

Yes it completely disables regardless of the proximity to your face. You can't turn on speakerphone or keypad or mute or anything or even exit the call using the soft key. Once the call ends by hitting the hard key then the screen is enabled again.

Do you have the phone inside a leather pouch or anything that blocks the proximity sensor while you answer?
If the screen is on but unresponsive during a call, reset this registry entry to zero:
HKLM/System/GWE/Touch/Filter/Minimumtaptime
if that doesn't work I'd recommend a hard reset :/ if it functions normally then it was one of those tweaks. apply each one at a time, reset, test, rinse and repeat.

Reset setting to 0 thank you =)

you're welcome
would be nice if you'd hit the thanks button

I ran into this problem after using BsB Tweaks and learned from a post elsewhere:
BsB Tweaks on HTC HD2 -
1) Screen Sensitivity Off
2) Tap Time Off
3) improve Radio Off
Obviously the FM radio tweak has nothing to do with the screen response during phone use - just passing along what I learned. HTH.

When call answered, screen turns off

Every time i call someone, when they answer the call the screen turns off.
If i want to end the call or do anything else i have to turn the screen back on before i can press end.
Is there a way to stop this happening?
I have tweak_HD and changed all the settings on that but it still does it.
You have a soft key down to the right for ending calls. The screen turns off so you can stick the phone between your shoulder and ear if you must do something with your hands while in a call and thus not click something with your ear or face
The same problem.
Tweak HD did not resolved this issiue. Any other ideas cause it's relly annoying from mu point of view
already discussed
this is aproblem discussed many many time, is an energy setting. with HD tweak i think you can solve problem. but when you are in a call and screen goes to sleep tap on the on/off button of the blackstone and your screen retake from sleep.

I belive we're looking for solution which doesn't involve any buttons
The best solution should be to use the "light sensor" to turn on the screen soon as we remove the phone to our ear
I have heard that S2U2 (freeware) automatically turns the screen off when a call is connected and then automatically turns the screen back on when the call is disconnected. If you want to use the screen during the call, you need to slide your finger on the screen to unlock it.
I'm not sure if this directly addresses your problem, but it might be an option to try out. I have never used S2U2, so unfortunately I cannot confirm what it can and can't do or how well it does what it does.

After searching all day long (and testing too)... Good news for #1.3! I've found it!!! (poor HTC guys who want to hide all their tweaks...)
So, I will publish a new version tonight with this and some other minor corrections.
Don't forget to ckeck it via AppToDate (thanks again Paul, for this great neat app).

LCD screen blackout while making a call out

Hi,
I had a problem with my Jade where the LCD screen blackout while making a call out, and i need to turn the screen on again pressing the power button.
Can anyone advise me?
Thank you in advance for your advise.
Vincent
No problem, is a normal function
Yup, that's normal behavior. There is a sensor which senses when you have the phone touching your face. It then turns the screen off. You wouldn't want it to activate all kinds of options while rubbing your face.
Thanks a lot! but Garmin problem now..
Hi ralfbonne, Arunia,
Thanks alot for your advise.
I have another problem which is the Garmin Mobile XT 5.00.10W.
Is a cracked version, after i installed S2U2 v1.60, the below error message pops up while half way using the Garmin GPS:
"Read access violation at data address 0xF9C3D650. Program address 0x0016FAF4 in background thread NULL (GfxFieldWindowProc)".
Is this caused by the settings for S2U2?
Besides, sometimes it took too long time to get the satellites signals, can be up to 20mins long!
Could you please kindly advise me too?
Thanks in advance.
Have a nice day.
Vincent
How to keep screen on in call (no blackout): solution
All registry hacks & Advanced Config tricks for keeping the screen on while a call is in progress do not apply to the Jade/3G.
However, there is a solution to overcome this annoying feature:
install Touch InCall Screen Tweak, and set the options "Ignore first screen off" and "Always On" in the options.
Why keep the screen on during call? Your face will just start activating things at random. If you really need it on (maybe using earpiece) you can always press the power button.
It's annoying
I have never accidently pressed anything on the screen while calling.
However, having to press the power button to bring the screen back while calling voicemail has annoyed me many times.
I also believe it is annoying that the screen blacks out. Even when I have the phone facing down and not to my ear, the screen blacks
I need to get it on, so I could use speakerphone. I'm one of those that love using speakerphone, so yea
I will try the InCall cab file.

Screen Lock issue with HD2

After i hang up on a call (when the phone is in sleep mode and the screen is locked) the screen unlocks. this is quite contrary to what is mentioned in the phone manual chapter 1 page 45. this becomes an issue since i use a bluetooth headset and the phone remains in its sleeve/case and after every call, a whole bunch of applications will launch since the case is in contact with the screen. have i overlooked some settings or are there other owners who have faced this issue?
ideas and suggestions welcomed
did you check it out if any of the hardware buttons being pressed against the case hence wakening up the phone.?
i had it to only closed al my apps in taskm and it stoped flickering
My HD2 is also behaving in the same way even in controlled test conditions - the phone unlocks when a call comes in (I'm presented with slide to accept or reject call) The phone unlocks during the call, but fails to lock again on disconnect (either by pressing "end call" or hang up via bluetooth).
Can anyone verify this? Is it interacting with something I installed?
I believe I found a (complicated) workaround.
What I want: leave HD2 inside pocket, answer calls with bluetooth headset, hang up and phone will go back to lock.
Problem: After I hang up using bluetooth or press the big red "End Call" button or the other party hangs up, the phone stays unlocked! It stays powered on and all kinds of buttons gets clicked.
Practically all lock sw uses their own lock screen (which I don't want to install). CSDevCtrl does not trigger by phone. TouchLockPro uses its own transparent lock screen but can respond to phone events. Using the !SUSPEND for TAPI\Ended under settings does not seem to work when the screen dims about 50 secs into the call.
Solution: Use TouchLockPro together with LockAndOff. Get TAPI\Ended to run LockAndOff will turn phone off, whether by bluetooth, big red "End Call" button, or the other party hangs up.
BTW: I think there is some confusion on whether the phone locks when you
1. press the big red "End Call" button, or
2. the hard "End call" button
in the forums.
I noticed that HD2 have a light sensor next to the top ear speaker.
During a call, if the phone is put near the ear and cover the light sensor , the screen become non-active which is good.
If anyone can come up with a lock sceen using this light sensor , then the problem with random launch of program when phone inside pocket will be solved.
This lock screen should only activated right after an end of call, beacuse , sometime you may want to use the phone in a dark place.

It's the proximity sensor that turns the screen on and off during a call, not the light sensor. How else would it work in the dark? (which it does)

My proximity sensor does not work, when I am getting a call my screen turn off and when I am taking the phone out from my face it turn on only when I am out side at the sun!! the screen stay off when I am inside room. I tested it with flsh light and it is working also.
I have a T-Mobile US version of the HD2. I am having the same problem when using the bluetooth system in my car. After answering or making a call the phone stay unlocked. And then starts making random calls while I am driving!!!!
There has got to be an easy fix for this!!!
Buy pocketshield, problem solved.
i have this unlock problem with 1.48 rom and i solve it by pressing start button and lock. after that everything works fine unless i change theme in settings. then just repeat first step.
Solved
Same trouble with me until I use the following software. I tried it and it's almost perfect. unzip it and just copy to your HD2, run CallerLoc.exe and click Yes, you'll find:when you hang up, or he/she hang up a call, or a call is established, the screen will turn off.
Why say 'almost perfect', the software is in chinese, but the filename is in english. and it's a call location software but with the function we need.
To stop or before you delete the software, run Callerloc.exe and click Yes again.
Hope this will help you. Sorry I don't find a English version of this software. I esure and I'm using this software perfectlly with my Leo.

Same for me
Greetings.
I understand this is quite an old thread I'm digging up but I need a little help as well and I didn't want to start a new topic just for that.
I've this silly problem, appeared right out of the blue:
You all know the standard manila behavior, when the phone is idle, the screen first dims and after some more time, depending on your preferences, the screen locks. It also locks if you press the power off button. This all was happening to me till this morning.
I added an event in the calendar (the only change I made today) and after that, my phone dims and then goes in sleep mode after the designated period of time, but DOESN'T lock!!! It doesn't even lock when I press the power off button. I can still lock it by pressing Start and then lock or by press and hold the power button and choose the lock phone option. So one would say that it's still operational, so why bother about it, but I kinda liked the standard function and I have to freaking idea why it changed!!!
I'd be most appreciative if you could offer some help with that.
Oh, I forgot to mention. Soft reset didn't solve the problem. Erasing the calendar event didn't either.
My phone runs the factory ROM (1.66.482.1 ELL), I haven't changed anything other than user settings (yeah, I'm a noob... )
Thanks in advance!
Nasos
Pocketshield could be the end of your problems. You can try it for 10 days and see how it goes...
But why do I need to buy third party software in order to revert my phone to it's original operation?
No, this is not the answer I am looking for. I was wondering if you know of any kind of settings that might have changed by accident and caused this undesired behavior.
Thanks.
The best to return to normal operation would be a hard reset. Or you can spend a while trying.
You can try
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Lockscreen\Enable=1
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Lockscreen\Active=1
Thank you very much. I opted for the hard reset option... I hope it stays ok this time!
My HD2 also had some strange unlocking and unwanted calling.
I noticed it appeared when using the android style lockscreen.
When I changed back to the original one, problem solved
i had this too. the andriod lockscreen seems to be a bit buggy last time i used it, i accidentially called 7 random numbers

HD2 screen lock needed during calls (capacitive screen is too sensitive)

Hi,
I love my new HD2, but i've got the following problem:
The proximity sensor works doesn't work 10% of the time and because the touchscreen is so sensitive, i end up pressing random buttons with my ear or face. I've been manually locking the screen during calls which:
- is really annoying
- doesn't really solve the problem, screen lock during calls does not require slider to unlock, just a regular button and also has a hang up button on it, so it's pretty much back to the original problem.
I know that there's many custom apps out there that can circumvent this issue but i like the stock lock screen (with slider), i don't need another one.
What i need is an app that automatically locks my screen using htc's "slide to unlock" screen after i accept incoming call or after my outgoing call is connected.
If anyone can help me with this i would apreciate it.
why not try s2u2
it has ability to lock after call is connected
do u have something in way of proximity sensor? case or screen protector? i had similar problem but after making bigger hole in screen protector it works 100%
@brkix: i would like a solution that uses the stock lock screen if possible
@lake: i have nothing of the sort, but i confirmed in several forums including this one that the proximity sensor is not 100% reliable
I exactly have the same problem. in my case I want to place a call then want to put the phone in its case while training or running whatsoever and I would really appreciate of being able to lock the keys in order to avoid accidental touching.

SmartLock, offers incall and outcall lock. This may be your best option.
This CAB will lock the hardware buttons when you are in a call if that helps
http://www.cabcache.com/cabs.asp?cab=29
Do you have hair covering your ear?
Without wearing any head wear my sensor works 100% perfect.
Per advice in the second post, I've yesterday installed s2u2. Mates, this program works really good and answers my necessities. All I had to do was to put a short cut of the application to my main screen. Then, I just lock the device by tapping the lock button during a call.
There's even an option existing to lock the phone automatically when the backlight is off and/or during a call directly.

Oh well! Please, tell me how you do it!
I'd pleased if at least I could manually deactivate the screen in order to avoid touching button with my cheek!
I've been trying to find an option to lock screen during a call without succeed.
Thanks,
Cheers!
I have the same problem. This part fails.
Sorry, but I insist... wingm4n: how do you lock the screen during calls?
I still haven't been able to find such option
Cheers,
Up....
Hit start then lock(at bottom left side of screen) after dialing or answering a call.
i have same issue...not with keylocks but with the screen!!!almost every time i make or receive a call with my phone in my pocket or by ear hd2 make itself an other call or push lots of function..and this is very annoying!!!i don't like s2u2...really doesn't any solution exist for solve this problem???
thank you!
Cheers!!
Smartlock
Take a look at this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505032
It locks the screen during calls, and has some other settings as well. I've been using it for a while and it seems to work just fine. And best of all, its free.
in s2u2 settings, just set: "lock on talk" and deselect "lock device". in this way...lock screen will work only in a call. that's it
I used to have such problem during my first uses with the HD2, I would realize because all of a sudden I heard keypad tones (and so did the other person ) while hitting the dialer with my cheek.
After that, I started noticing IF the proximity sensor triggered or not.
It's not really "idle", it's just very "picky", you actually need your ear to cover it, and not just your head being in its way... I took te habit of checking the phone display with the back of my eye to see if it's on while I answer a call, and if it is all I need to do is to move it on my ear so I touch the area with the proximity sensor the display turns off again. Works for me practically 100% of the times now.
How to turn this off
I have a HD2 running the energy rom and when a call is connected it locks the screen. But I use google voice and need to be able to enter my pin. Anyone know how to get the screen not to lock during a call.

Touch screen stops working during calls

when i am in a call and phone is not on my face i can not use the touch screen like press speaker, menu, mute ect. but if i do a soft reset on it then it works for a few min. then stops again. any fixes?
Have you lowered the touchscreen sensitivity either by registry tweaks, BsB Tweaks, HD Tweaks, etc.? If so, one of the known errors is that the active call screen will stop working and you have to use the hardware keys.
Did you happen to perform this tweak?
44. Prevent Accidental Link Activation When Scrolling
Do you scroll and find you accidentally click on something? This tweak is for you.
HKLM/System/GWE/Touch/Filter/Minimumtaptime
Change from 0 to 30
If you did, that's the problem, it breaks the phone app and makes all the buttons non-responsive while you are on a call.
Just change HKLM/System/GWE/Touch/Filter/Minimumtaptime back to 0 and the buttons will magically start working again.
Actually, the buttons do work, you just have to poke it "harder" and longer. I would touch and rub my finger over the end-key a couple-times and then it works. It's probably a result of the decreased sensitivity hack.
yes i did do that mod. but i changed it back and it seems to be ok now. thanks for the help
while we are on the subject does anyone know how to move the unlock slider to bottom and clock to top on today screen?
I thought it is a function of WM6.5 to disable touch-button during call to prevent accidently touching them with your face
if you want to use those button just slide along the length of that button and it will work just fine (work for me). And after you active any button by that way, all touch button will work as normal.
(sorry but english is not my native )
