Ever since the 2.3.3 update (4.24.651.1) I have this issue when I go to use the keyboard it does not appear, just white space where the keyboard should be. The keyboard is still there just not visible because I can type but I can't see the keys I'm typing.
I'm able to resolve it by changing the input method back to regular keyboard then right back to swype again, but it continues to happen. It seems totally random and occurs in different apps. Has anyone else experienced this?

Depends on what version of swype you're running. I had the same issue when i first updated. You'll need to go get a newer copy from the swype beta website.
I never installed swype. It's included in the stock sprint ROM. Should / can I update it still?

it lags really badly in SMS typing. It seems to be much better in emails and other applications. Anyone know why?
Thanks
I've noticed that the keyboard can lag sometimes, but I don;t know why.
The most annoying thing I've had was on a particular rom I flashed (I can't remember which one now) where the first letter or two lagged when entering a web address into opera/ie, so that they would appear after the 3rd letter or so. Like if I typed:
xda-developers.com
I might get
adx-developers.com
That annoyed me so much, I just flashed to another rom pretty much straight away...
Does your phones have a custom software keyboard installed like Touch HD or any other 3:rd party keyboard?
Try to disable word completetion.

My keyboard lagged with the touchHD keyboard too -very bad, when the first letter became the third or forth.
Now I use SPB Keyboard and all the lags are gone.

are you saying that if i install SPB Keyboard that it will improve typing on the slide out keyboard as well? i'm asking 'cause i'm experiencing lag on it as well
Why can't people answer the question?
Do you or don't you have any 3:rd party keyboard software installed like the Touch HD keyboard?

As emwdava already asked: Do you have a 3rd party keyboard (e.g. TouchHD Keyboard) installed?
If that's the case, try deinstalling this keyboard and see if the lags go away.
If the system is running better then and you want to have a software keyboard, I would recommend SPB Keyboard because it's good and it does not cause any lags as the TouchHD Keyboard before.
So SPB Keyboard will NOT help getting the lags away, but it is a usable keyboard that do not cause lags.
i hv the THD keyboard installed and i experience the lag too when im typing an address into opera. with both the THD keyboard and the hardware keyboard.
at first was kinda annoying but now i just wait for the cursor to move in front of the first letter before i continue typing. less than two seconds. im pretty patient
i have the issue of the lag on the hardware keyboard, i types and after few moments i see the words appear.
I have TouchIT 3.01 rom and SPB keyboard, i will try disabling auto-completition and do the other tips and see the results
i have the same issue..
i just jacks rom 1.06
anly keyboard i have installed that is not with the rom = NullKB
i have word completion disabled.
i have the same problem sort of...
I've got a swedish xperia with stock rom, itjes manila cab, fingerboard and touchpal installed, disabled auto-correction and no word proposals.
but i must say that even when I hard reset my unit the problem is still there when i multi-task (even just a few programs). but for me it only affects my swedish letters å ä and ö. never for any other letters. it's so annoying and i hope that SE or someone here could fix it... perhaps it's already fixed?
Same problem with the hardware keyboard. It lags about 1 second or similar. You can keep typing, it will catch up eventually, and it won't lose any words/letters.
The software SIP doesn't have a problem, but maybe because I type slower on that, than the hardware keyboard haha.
Same
I'm using Finger Keyboard 2, When I type with the hardware keyboard it sometimes lags behind me by about 2 words at the very start of my message then goes fine after that.
Using Finger Keyboard 2 itself is normal, but switching it on takes about 30 seconds or more sometimes, I don't know if this is common but will probably remove it if it continues because the only reason i keep it is to save sliding, otherwise it's quicker to just slide and I would have finished what i was doing in the time it takes to load.
I am having an issue with my Droid X that I have honestly noticed on other Android phones as well. For example, I am texting someone "The price is $350" and when I am typing the phone makes it look like this: "The price is$ 350". I have to go back and delete the spaces and fix it. I thought I initially fixed this problem by disabling auto-punctuate but now it is back to doing it again. Has anyone got it to stop doing this?
Use Swype. It uses correct spacing.

Mine doesn't... I get the space after the dollar sign every time. Of course, I haven't tried to fix it, either...
That's odd. I just used an example on my phone and I did this: Swyped "You owe me", then typed by multitap [SYM][$][1][3][2][.][1][2]. It resulted in this exact string of text "You owe me $132.12". If it isn't working correctly try a factory reset. Just backup your stuff before you do it.
I am so glad that someone else noticed this too. It is very annoying. I really like the multitouch keyboard better than swype and hopefully someone can suggets a fix or trick to solve the spacing issue. I dont think switching keyboards completely is a solution to the problem
I dont care for swype either. Its just that i can type faster on the regular keyboard than I can with swype. Im not that big of a fan for Swiftkey either. It works fine for me in landscape but in portrait the spacebar wont space.
Sorry, let me clarify. What I meant by that I used multi tap to type thee price, is that I hit the [SYM] key on the Swype keyboard and typed the numbers in by touching each one. I didn't change to the multi TOUCH keyboard.
So, as the title says; I have a problem with my keyboard. My phone seems to think that the keyboard is always slid open even when I close the keyboard. Does anyone know the cause of this problem or a way to fix this?

probably its a keyboard/hinge sensor issue.
So, I tried flashing some other roms, because I read somewhere it might be related to the rom. At the time I was stock and on froyo, so I flashed CM7 and it seemed to think the keyboard wasn't there, so I flashed a couple of other roms. (Super CM7, Virtuous, MIUI, Gingervillan, and even CM6 and the latest nightly of CM7) For most of them it wouldn't recognize the keyboard entirely, so when you go through the startup steps it says, "Slide open keyboard" I slide open the keyboard and it doesn't recognize it. I can still type on the keyboard, but when selecting a text field, it opens up the landscape keyboard and I can't get the backlight on. That'w what happened on the gingerbread roms, so I tried CM6 and I go back to the original problem of it thinking the keyboard is always open; I then tried the latest nightly of CM7, and it gave me the same problem as CM6 and stock. So that left me totally confused. Is it what rom I'm using or is it a hardware issue. If it is a hardware issue, how can I fix it? Do I just replace the keyboard/hinge sensor?
I'm loving the v20 so far and I wanted to keep the stock keyboard, but I've been forced to switch to Google Keyboard.
Problem: when I type something out and I make a mistake, the center suggested word is always the same word as my error and the word to the left is where the correctly spelled word is, therefore it never drops in when I press space bar and the original misspelled word remains.
For example, let's say I text "hapened." Instead of the suggested word in the center being "happened" therefore dropping in and correcting my error with the press of the space key, it's found on the left side of the three suggestions and "hapened" is found in the center, therefore making me have to press the left, correctly spelled suggested word in order to fix it.
I couldn't find any settings to fix the problem. Am I missing something? I really liked the LG keyboard. If anyone knows anything, let me know. Thanks.
This is my only reason for not using it. Seems like a fatal issue for a keyboard.
LG keyboard is retarded. Just install Google keyboard and call it a day.

Bingo. I tried to like it... But nope.
I have to agree. I think I installed Google Keyboard within 15 minutes after first boot up.
It is sad, but I installed the Google keyboard as well. I'm not a swype typer, but I got used to using the Swype keyboard on my Note Edge; but the Play Store doesn't list me as a Swype keyboard owner, so I'd have to buy it if I wanted it on my V20. I don't know that I am that enamored of it...
Since updating to Nougat, I can't find a way to change my default keyboard. I've gone to Language and Input - > Virtual Keyboard but after that, selecting a keyboard doesn't switch to it. Where is the setting to specify the default keyboard?
You might find your answer here:

sent from a galaxy far far away
Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, none of the suggestions worked. Makes me think the keyboards are not Nougat compatible yet, at least with switching your keyboards.
The only way I can make this work is to go to Settings->Language and Input->Virtual Keyboard->Manage Keyboards
From there, I have to set all the keyboards off that I DON'T want to us. Very aggravating but it's the only way it works. Before, there was an menu that displayed what the current keyboard is, and selecting it would give you a Choose Keyboard menu where you could change the default keyboard. That is gone now under Nougat.
SwiftKey is the ONLY keyboard that actually senses when you haven't set it yet, and it will pop up the Choose Keyboard option. GBoard and the Samsung default keyboard do NOT do this at all. Guess that's why I continue to stick with SwiftKey. I only download GBoard to see what the latest updates were like. Still not completely impressed. The only saving grace the GBoard and Samsung keyboard is the ability to move the cursor. In GBoard, it's swiping across the spacebar, and with Samsung, it's swiping left or right across the keyboard itself. I know SwiftKey has the arrow keys, but they place them in the worst spot: right below the spacebar. I am constantly hitting them when I mean to tap the spacebar, so I turn them off.
I found that Samsung has a thread in their forums for discussing issues people are having with the update and they are apparently monitoring it continuously. I also contacted Samsung support via Facebook Messenger and they have noted the issue and also referred me to the same thread. Not too bad as far as response and assistance. Pretty pleased with that. Just hope they fix this issue. Sounds like it's an issue with how they have modified the stock Android Nougat settings. There should be a gear icon next to each keyboard in the Language and Input->Virtual keyboard section, but there isn't. Hopefully, they'll fix this with a later OTA update.
Here's the link to their thread for reporting issues with the latest Nougat update:

Well this stinks for alot of people, hope to see it fixed soon! I had forgotten about Perfect Keyboard Pro having the same type of instructional screen when it installs. It gave me the ability to bring up the switch keyboard screen!
Finally figured out how to quickly switch between keyboards. When your keyboard is up, just swipe down in your notifications area to bring up the notifications section. In it, you should see a notification from Android System stating Switch keyboard. Select that notification and you will be able to easily switch to another keyboard.
Too bad that wasn't documented by Samsung, but at least you don't have to go to Settings->Language and input->Virtual keyboard->Manage keyboards and then have to manually shut off all the keyboards you don't want to use in order to enable the one you want to use.
