Phone backup

Ok so the OTA 2.2 should be around the month.
I was just wondering is there an android app or program for the pc to back up the current state of my phone such as all apps and preferences so i dont have to start from scratch after the update?

When I tried to update to the unofficial 2.2 (and failed ) titanium backup did the trick. Reloaded all apps with settings, just had to rebuild my screen layouts. Problem is most of the backup programs require root. Accordin to streaksmart.com the "dell insider" was not able to root the official build. Not to say the smart people on these forums wont have that figured out in no time after its released: )

Dell have said that they will tell you how to back up all your data before applying the update so maybe they have a program they are sending with the update

Theres a free dell backup app on the market now specifically for the streak so problem solved

Dell streak backup and restore app hits android market, exclusively for streak

Its just on the market, search for it... Froyo is very near I think!
If it isn't working the first time ( invalid backup), reboot your phone... Try it again and it will work.

got my streak a week ago, found dell backup in market a few days ago
+2 for froyo release.. I would bet it will be release on the 11th.

I'm confused. Two questions.
1. What makes this program a good sign for Froyo's release?
2. What is different about this from the PC suite that I use with 1.6 and came standard with the Streak for backing up the program?

1) it was on Tweeter and on Facebook (dell uk) stating that prior to receiving Froyo, backup using this app.
2) no difference, backs up the same stuff but the difference lies in the fact that this way, you don't need a pc to restore your settings.

I'm new to Android

Ive been knocking around these forums for da while....I was a big WM user. I jumped into Android on the Streak, and I just have a couple of questions, almost mundane, but ive searched everywhere and cant find a straight answer on two matters....
1. With 2.1/2.2 does the home screen do native portrait to landscape rotation natively?
2. The keyboard on my stock At&t Streak (1.6) doesnt seem to do multitouch very well, is that something that 2.1/2.2 solves?

QDL repair tool
Search here for the QDL repair tool, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS to the letter getting the drivers loaded, one click, (for me 174 seconds), wait for the dell logo to go away (could take a couple minutes, up to 5) and VOILA! 2.2 (309) installed.
Good idea to do a fastboot then select reflash, then download the 318 update file, allow it to update (keeps all of your settings), and you're done.

Dell streak recognized as other phones

When I go on facebook it tells me I'm using an Optimus Black. When I use the MLB App it tells me I'm using an HTC phone. And when I send an e-mail it says that I'm sending it from my Galaxy S phone.
Is there any setting I can change so that apps either see it as the Streak or mask it so that apps that don't support the streak will provide support to it. (i.e. the MLB TV app doesn't support video on the streak.)

Streakdroid has email app ported from samsung galaxy tablet. That is why when you send email it says sending from galaxy s. You should be able to change it in the settings where it says signature or something like that.

Oh I k.ow about the signature I was just curious about other apps... Possibly tricking then into thinking.i have a supported phone and such.

Funny... when I called att to give them my imei and sim info for my streak it came up in their system as a dell latitude! LOL

How To: Working Netflix

Hi. I'm new to the forums, but just figured this out - so be gentle.
This basically tricks apps into thinking your phone is a Nexus One
Download and install the netflix.apk (not sure if I'm allowed to post - I'm sure you can find it.)
1. Copy /system/build.prop to a local directory and change the following settings:
ro.product.name=libra_passion
ro.product.device=passion
ro.product.board=mahimahi
ro.build.fingerprint=google/passion/passion:2.3.4/GRJ22/121341:user/release-keys
2. replace /system/build.prop with the edited build.prop
adb remount
adb push yournewbuild.prop /system/build.prop
3. Reboot
4. Enjoy

How to I get to step one? Sorry I am a noob to this. Please help! Or could you post the modded apk?

Any side effects of changing those settings?

I use the method in the link, but when movie stream starts it stops after two second and goes back to previous menu. Anybody else having the same problem.

I am having that same problem exactly. I wonder it is because of the stock ROM?

Same play for 2 seconds and then goes to the main menu screen. Both on 3G and Wifi.

I might get a membership for this, but I don't have an unlimited data plan and don't want to think of the charges I'd ring up. If I'm at home with my wifi I'd just use a TV.
Unless there's a way around that?

I just installed the Netflix apk file and it worked like a charm. I didn't edit anything. Also as for data usage refer to this http://blog.netflix.com/2011/03/netflix-lowers-data-usage-by-23-for.html. it mostly depends on your settings but it can, in turn, consume quite a bit of data.

Is there a way to download the entire movie at home and watch it later while out and about?

Anybody figure out a way to get this to work on 351? I get an error when trying to save the build.prop and then it just reverts back to what it was... thanks in advance

You opened it with read only privilege. You need to open it with a program that has root access.
You did make a backup copy first, right?

I used es file explore and I clicked the boxes to grant root access. It says error and just reverts back to what it was

Your signature says sent from HTC vision. My does same thing and Netflix works fine.
