The MUST HAVE ! - Picsel Browser on HTC Devices ?

hi,
did anyone get the picsel browser to run on HTC devices ? it's the VERY best mobile html-browser i ever saw!! it's awesome !! unfortunataly it's not avaiable for all wm devices, on the webpage you can only download picsel viewer. but this one don't show web pages.
my samsung sgh-i750 comes with pcsel browser preinstalled and i tried to copy the .exe file to my hermes, but i can't start it because an error comes up: "can't initialize"
maybe the .exe file has to be modified a little bit to run on every wm device
if someone want to try this, let me know. i can send you the files...
btw: if someone dindn't see picsel browser in action, i tell you: You have to see it !!! This little aplication handles the web sites on you mobile device like your pc at home.
max
or needs a pile of dll files and reg settings too ?
yes, maybe it need some additional files. i searched the complete device for all files that could be needed by picsel browser, but all in found are some resource-files (.gif) with grafics for the UI.
maybe the aplication looks for the device ID and starts only on registered devices. in that case someone has to remove this directly from the exe-file.
max
If you can copy out the exe this means it's not part of ROM. Try using Total Commander to access your extended ROM and get the installation cab from there.
any new about the picsel browser ?
I got picsel browser on my palm device and its superb!!!! I really want to have it on my pocket pc . Its the best document / internet browser so far. (not the fastest but its eye candy)
Someone should start working on this! I really want to try out the browser.. Could it be extracted from a Treo rom?
Can someone point us in the direction of a ROM that contains it?
It'd probably need a bit of hacking to force compatibility. Perhaps!
V
this browser comes installed on the samsung world phone offered by verizon. however that particular phone runs wm2003 not wm5. if someone could dump that rom I'm sure mr vj could hack it to tell for all of us!
I'm not so sure I could, but someone could! Just point us towards a rom or a rom dump.
V
Treo has it installed too, the 750 rom has been dumped if you want to sift through it
the 750 rom.. dont u mean 700? and is it on the 700w or the 700wx or w/e sprints ver is
I dumped my i730 rom during FUT for WM5 so that superdave could create an uploadable rom. I should have it somewhere. Is anyone still interested? There are a few apps that i would want besides picsel, the remote control, and task manager/launcher.
Be VERY CAREFUL! I extracted a few picsel products including picsel browser (which I posted here & my site) and got a letter from there attorney, So I would just be careful with that one And well the laucher is so so nothing major didnt like the way it stayed at the bottom of the screen, and the remote program is something I myself havent played with yet.
~Mike
I read about that on your forum, I think it's bs. But good thing most of us got it while it was out..
BS or not, if this forum gets the same letter as Lvballer06, we'll take any infringing material down. Grab it while it's hot if it does come on!
Picsel is superb though (but with limitations). They should really make it a commercial standalone release.
V
vijay,
I have had some success in the past using dependencywalker (attached) to determine files that are used by a program. It might work for you in this case. With all of the other cool stuff that you create, I'm sure that it will come in handy again.
big
bigbawlayesyawla: many thanks for the offer; I have various dependancy walkers - that's cool.
Picsel was made to function perfectly - the limitations I referred to are in the software itself. I've taken steps to improve it, but the app is a wonderful achievement in itself. Beautiful...
V
vijay: I figured that you already had something to do dependency stuff
picsel sounds wonderful...good luck porting it to your other device.
you have written some pretty nice code yourself, so if you are impressed, that is significant!
As I said, and I can't say it enough, it's a beautiful app and wish it were a commercial app. It's also a pdf viewer, word doc viewer, excel viewer, image viewer, and other stuff.
However, it does need expanding... I'm working on some extras for it to make it hopefully a good deal more useful.
Picsel have every right to get medieval on our asses for distributing it, so I won't. But seriously, it's our loss. I'll post some screenshots some time.
Oh, it's also NOT pixel doubled on VGA devices. So you get a good hires image on a VGA Universal.

About to Get a Mogul...What Programs Should I Get?

There seems to be a ton of posters here who know a lot about the Mogul and phones/PDAs in general...so I figured I'd pose the question to you all.
I'd love suggestions for what I should download...so if possible, could you respond with answers to the following questions:
1) What program?
2) What does it do? Please state the purpose/usefulness.
3) How do I download and install it? Link to find the download?
4) What, if any, existing program will be unnecessary once I download it? And can that unnecessary program be deleted?
I've never had a PDA, so any and all suggestions are welcome. I'll be using the PDA predominantly for calls, web-surfing, and messaging.
Also keep in mind that I'm new to all of this, and I'm a complete moron...I don't understand a damned thing. So talk to me like I'm a 5-year-old. I don't know abbreviations like SMS or MMS, or whatever.
Thanks in advance, I appreciate you taking time out to help me.
Well one of the programs I use the most on my phone is The Core Media Player (TCPMP) it is by far the best media player for Pocket PC's and can play most file types. you can get more information from here, and if you want to download it just respond saying yes and ill post a link. Don't download it from the site as I have a newer version than on that site.
http://www.freewareppc.com/multimedia/tcpmp.shtml
i hate to be the one to say it, but after seeing the views on this go up and no replies i'm just going to say what everyones been thinking. look around? theres hundreds of threads with stuff to download for your phone, you just have to look a little
Most of our WM devices are very similar. As such, pretty much everything that's been said before still applies, so check the wiki, where you should find many articles related to this conundrum.

Yeah, can you post a link? Thanks, I appreciate it.
And to you other two, I understand that...like I said, though, I'm a beginner and a lot of stuff goes over my head. So I figured I'd create a thread and can ask questions and whatnot.
It's fine if people don't want to respond, though. Life will go on. And some people have been nice enough to take time to explain stuff to me, so it's ok.

Have you got .8?
I've heard rumors of its existance, but can't find it yet. Still running 0.72... If that's the newer version that you've got, would you mind sharing it?
Here it is v.81, sorry it wouldn't let me upload to the site like normal so i put it on megaupload, to install it just download the file and copy it to your memory card or phone memory, then open it with file explorer on your phone and install it to either the device or memory card. Then open it from start/programs/media player

Thanks a lot killer, I appreciate it.

Sprite Backup
Sprite Backup is a must! Even if you keep it connected to your ActivSync PC daily, it is good to have a baseline you can always restore to, and I'd suggest having it backup to your SD card, and rename one of them every few weeks so you have something to restore from in case it gets completely fragg'd.
Another one is Skyfire (Beta) mobile internet browser.
I'd also suggest you get Microsoft Reader or EReader so you can have pocket novels on your phone (it's a nice thing to have when you're waiting for something). Also, rip your DVD's to your PC and encode them to WMV format and your ActivSync can put them on your SD card...
All of these tricks are discussed here in the forum. Hope this helps.
I will just give titles of some of the apps that I use. Google them to find where and what they do.
PIM: PocketInformant
Wallet: CodeWalletPro 6
Geocaching: GeoScout
maps: Google Maps, Live Search
Bible: Bible Reader
Today Plugin: HHC Home Customizer (will download HTC home plugin)
Shell: SBP Mobile Shell v.2
Browser: Opera Mini
Regedit: PHM RegEdit
File: Resco File Explorer
Video: TCPMP
Navigation: TomTom7
There are a bunch of other little apps that just make life easy, go to Handango.com and find what you need your phone to do for you.

fingerfriendly filebrowser?

I wonder if there is any fingerfriendly filebrowser available or if somecould programm one...
I thought of something like PocketCM just for the file-system...
yes there is some nice software to read the internet page, BDF files, documents and even pictures and it is fingerfriendly browser called "picsel browser, i am not sure if it is allowed for me to put the link here but i can send it your email so just give me your email
picsel browser only zooms and pans, it doesnt scroll through files like pocketcm. Some ROM's have finger friendly file browser incorporated in them so im sure they could program up an app to do it
For file browser try Totalcmd, if you can't find it tell me, also, I want to know if I can find photolab anywhere cause in the official site there is no download

?? total commander does not scroll like PocketCM, its just a file browser/Reg editor
No, you can scroll like PocketCM, go to Show>Large Icons oh, you might be right cause I have TouchFlo, but give a try
on a touchflo enabled device you could try resco explorer. with the big icons view you can use your thumbs to navigate through the folders.

TotalCommander also has a big icons view that works well with touchflo enabled device. Works for me anyway!
I wonder, do you need to use a file explorer than often and in such places where you can't use your stylus?
If it was as easy as using pcm and had filters in like pcm, all cabs, all mp3, all .exe, etc. etc. with the ability to set a default action, I would use it more than anything.

Well you'll use it because you don't have better application for specific task, don't you think?
listing mp3 won't be as good as a good player
listing cab ... you isntall app that often?
listing exe, you'll probably need a launcher.
etc...

I do seem to install quite a few cabs. My examples were not the best. The thing for me tene with your software is it is so satisfying to use. I love the feedback it gives me and the whole feel of it. I guess that is what I want everywhere on my orbit, file explorers always seem cluttered, ugly and filled with tiny little icons that I often make a bad selection. I think I use my file explorer more than my contacts at the moment, but I hardly have any mates!
Picsel File Viewer is pretty hot. if someone gets it, please post it because i REALLY want it
try out spb pocket plus v.4

Which zip utility do you use on PocketPC ?

I have been using ezyUNzip and I don't like the way it operates in locating the extraction directory.
Are their combo-utilities that include an unzip function, or what is a better unzip util for PPC?
I don't know how ezyUNzip works so I don't know what your problem with it is, but I've always used Pocket RAR.
http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=820
Yep I use the same..Pocket RAR....Always used it prolli one of the best to use!!
thanks very much. I'm close to getting to the spot where I feel I just about have everything I need for my phone...
Thanks to robpet2 for telling me about "gc java pack" which handled one of the other last things I needed: A clean solution to having OperaMini launch from an icon, be the default browser, become signed, and not require checking off that box every session.
I use the one Resco Explorer has; works great.

Ad blocking with opera mobile 9.5 ???

I'm trying to figure out a way to block ads in Opera mobile. I've read on the internet that you can use a file called urlfilter.ini in the desktop version of Opera.
Does anyone know if there is a similar functionality in the mobile version?
Yes, there is. I've also found a site that offers a pre-made ad-blocking list for this very purpose.
A mortscript can be used to update your adblocking every so often:
Code:
Download("http://fanboy.co.nz/adblock/opera/urlfilter.ini", "\Application Data\Opera 9.5\urlfilter.ini")
Download("http://fanboy.co.nz/adblock/opera/fanboy-adblocklist-elements.css", "\Application Data\Opera 9.5\styles\user.css")
(Note, haven't tried this with the very latest Opera build - the paths might need tweaking)
It would be great if someone can post the latest and updated urlfilter.ini file. As I understand, all the urls listed there would be automatically blocked, one the file has been copied to \Your_Path_to\Opera 9.5\ .... Yes?
Great stuff, can someone explain how to use this in opera. Where do I put the file, etc???
You can put it where you want! Just go to opera:config and search for "filter".
I have read on one of those sites that having a big urlfilter.ini would slow down Opera boot time and loading of sites. I haven't tested this myself but it might be good to know.
a better urlfilter.ini (just like adblock plus in firefox):
http://adnsto.net/other/urlfilter.ini

this was the first thought that came to my mind, and it seems logical too because opera would have to parse through all the urls in the list everytime you press on a link. think how horribly long that could become.
if i remember correctly in opera:config there should be an option there to block unrequested popups.
Here's a request I've just made to developers, please take a look:
