[Q] Mobile AP ceased working - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi
My problem is that Mobile AP has stopped working. I have never had any problem with it before, but after the last re-flash, I cant get it to work.
I am back on stock Samsung 2.3.4, radio JVQ and a kernel Semaphore_JVQ_1.3.0 (with root).
When I enable the mobile AP, I can see a brief message "Turning on..." immediately followed by "Error" as service status. I should mention that normal Wifi access works without any problems whatsoever. It is only the Mobile AP that has gone crazy. Maybe it is connected to the specific kernel, so I will also try in the kernel specific thread.
Any helpful hints are most welcome!

No, the AP settings are fine. Mobile networking and wifi works as it should. But I found the source of the problem. The Semaphore kernel that I installed have issues with Tethering. The dev has supplied a script for net_filter that have to be added to the startup directory. Too much hassle for me right now, so I switched to another kernel (Speedmod), which is amazingly easy compared to installed an init script, and now tethering works again.

EI22 wifi randomly drops and silmultaneous wifi and 3g

This problem has plagued me both on stock EI22 and on the CleanGB rom.
Several times a minute, while using wifi for any activity (internet, im, market) the wifi will drop for a few seconds and then reconnect.
I have also had both 3g and wifi simultaneously on (at least both icons are showing in the notification bar) until I turn one of them off.
This is very frustrating and I don't know what to do. I have tried assigning a static IP and no improvements thus far. Wifi sleep policy is set to never. I have tried the EI22, EH17, and EC05 modems and the problem persists. The problem only appeared when I upgraded to EI22 (odin to EC05 and applied update). Wifi worked perfectly under EC05. I have other devices that are connected to wifi and they work perfectly.
I would appreciate any help or advice.
Try the kernel from IAP in my signature.
You can also boot into recovery and wipe data, partition cache and dalvik and then setup your apps again. I know that has helped other with the same issue.
Its a pain, but often if you restore data it causes strange issues.
I had that problem and flashed a new kernel and it fixed it I think I'm using the samauri overclock kernel now , I'm not using the overclock or undervolt but its working great for me

I tried booting into recovery, wiping data, partition cache and davlik cache, and upon rebooting and connecting to wifi, the problem immediately persisted.
I tried odin to EC05, update to EI22, and immediately connecting to wifi and it still has the problem.
I don't understand. From a fresh EC05, there is no problem with wifi. Upon upgrading to EI22, it breaks.
I would really like to stay as stock as possible without having a different kernel. But this problem makes doing anything over wifi very frustrating.
Edit: I have tried your kernel and yes it has solved the problem, but do you have any idea on why this solves it? What does it change that is different from the stock kernel that fixes the problem with wifi? Thanks.
I'm having this issue with nubekernal v2. Pretty annoying

I'm having the same problem. First under stock EI22 and now ACS ICS v5. It works fine though when I'm at work with a G router but constantly drops at home with an N router. Worked fine on stock Froyo. Sure would be nice to track this down.
Dave
The only thing I have found that thus far fixes the problem is by running the IAP Kernel. I'd prefer not to be running it and would rather stay stock, but I cannot live with the wifi disconnecting all the time.
On the plus side though, I really have not noticed any changes by running the IAP Kernel on top of CleanGB. That is, it has fixed the problem and everything still looks the same.
I think it isn't really the kernel's fault, but rather wifi flakes out when running your first ei22 kernel after flashing from ec05. It seems that flashing any kernel after upgrading to ei22 fixed it here. I can't explain it.

The problem returns if I flash the CleanGB Kernel back. Like you, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the CleanGB Kernel, but it is a mostly stock kernel (from what I've read) and thus it behaves like the stock kernel in that I still experience the problem.

wifi on cm10 and cm 10.1 not working at all

Hi, maybe someone has a clue:
I seem to be the only one who can't use cm10 because wifi is just not working. On cm10 it's dropping out all the time as soon as data gets transfrerred (i.e. app download) and on cm10.1 its not even dropping. there is no data throughput whatsoever.
If you need more info, just tell me which one and I'll post it. I'm desperate.
Any ideas?
Assuming you have made a clean install, with system and data wiped as well, you should check your router configuration, try changing channel and/or security parameters

thanks for the suggestion. I don't have access to all the routers settings but I tried to use one even without security and the drop outs still appeared. Working well on m7.
I just realise: At the beginning of a fresh build it sometimes happens that wifi works for a couple of MB and suddenly starts dropping.
Is the Wi-Fi network used by many persons at a time? More than a couple of devices connected may cause problems because the new Wi-Fi drivers starts jamming devices, and sometimes as a result the Wi-Fi network is unable to deliver data.

I wouldn't say so. Not to many and it didn't work with the old wifi driver on cm10 either. The wifi keeps working for other parties in the network - so it is not jammed.
I might try again with a new build but I'm pretty hopeless...
Here is a long post about what I tried so far:

Hi I'm sorry to bother again.
I tried to figure out whats wrong with the wifi bug I'm having: constant drop outs while using any kind of wifi traffic.
Good news:
it worked well at home with my fritzbox router. (only tried 3-4 app downloads) > after a short while it stopped working
Bad news:
in my studio we got a different router and there I got the drop outs.
What I tried so far without luck (always a reboot in between):
disable Draft-N in wpa_supplicant
compared wpa_supplicant but it's the same as in cm7
delete rgnt from system/bin
change build.prop to use all 14 channels > ro.wifi.channels=14
tried changing PowerSavePowerLevel = 0 to 1
copied tiwlan.ini from cm7 backup because a few settings are different
tried 12-12-05 Quarx build
tried 12-10-18 build (but got a bootloop and stopped trying)
tried newest 13-03-07 build
ADDED tried 13-04-09 build
tried newest build and did another factory reset AFTER installing the ROM.
searched the web and found that maybe it might have something to do with wpa2, but the router at home uses wpa2/wpa (which means it's wpa2 as well or not?) and NO I cannot change the routers settings and I don't think it is a solution because i can use but not access like a dozen routers.
checked dmesg: in the TIWLAN section after the wifi connection it says: "iface_stat: stat_update() tiwlan0 not found
is it in any way possible that some settings change because I plugged usb "charge only" in while trying to download from Playstore? because it seems that dmesg spits somthing out regarding usb... (I'm can't really read/understand the output though)
oh and btw. first connection was fine in my last try: I could update Gmail, then I connected my usb and drop outs began. but I don't think it's related.
ADDED change to static IP
ADDED change regional code in wifi settings (w/o knowing what that actually does)
ADDED tried factory reset from stock, flash sbf and start from scratch.
Things I didn't try (and don't know if it would make any sense):
replace tiwlan_drv.ko
change vsel

It may be something elementary, but I presume Wi-Fi optimization is configured properly right?(IT MUST BE DISABLED)
I have had this issue but setting channel manually fixed it for me. This issue I had only on jb and with a specific router only. All others work properly on every channel.

Damn I can't just change all the channels in all the wifi networks I'm allowed to use... but I will try that with my own one.
I did not try to change channels, yet but I tried once more to start from scratch: wipe from stock / flash sbf / install cm10 and so on..
Reason: Someone hinted the stock wipe could help. But here is the problem:
Everytime I try to wipe from stock (before or after flashing sbf) I get the old "E:can't mount cache:recovery/..." ERROR. Something seems to be wrong and I wonder if that could prevent my wifi from working (maybe data is still unwiped...)
Any more ideas?
Stock recovery can't handle ext4, hence the read errors.
Stock recovery wipe will not help if custom recovery data wipe does not help. You can also try manually deleting the Wi-Fi folder in the data partition.
You'll have to try changing channels eventually, I think.

thats a misunderstanding:
I know that stock recovery can't handle ext4. My working system is cm7 so I stockwiped from cm7 and still couldn't get rid of the errors. I even checked the filesystem with e2fsck but everything seems to be ok. And I can install everything so... I don't know.
If your current rom is cm7 then you shouldn't get the error messages in stock recovery. I assume you've flashed a sbf and still gotten this error. You can try enabling the blank flash option from rsdlite.
You can verify whether data is wiped or not by wiping in custom recovery, and then cross checking with aroma file manager(flashable) to ensure data is wiped. If not then you have some kind of hardware eMMC problem which somehow triggers the Wi-Fi problem probably because of leftover Wi-Fi files and modules.
Also, couple of people have had luck flashing a newer sbf like dfp 231(with higher bl version), which seems to work in some cases for similar problems. Beware of the no downgrade issue in these recent sbfs.
And what misunderstanding are you talking about?

That does sound pretty scary.

I can't waste another day on hunting the /cache problem right now because of work, but as soon as I have more time I'll try a little more.
Here is some news from me: I had the chance to try it on another wifi router last night and behold: It worked nearly flawless.. a few hickups I think, but it worked. That means WIFI is not broken, but there must be some software-related problem/ or some network weirdness.
Also, couple of people have had luck flashing a newer sbf like dfp 231(with higher bl version), which seems to work in some cases for similar problems. Beware of the no downgrade issue in these recent sbfs.

Just that stock over ext4 thing. Nevermind.
Thank you for helping. I wonder if there is a way to find the problem.
Did you check the channel that particular Wi-Fi router operated at? Same as or different than the problematic routers ? Because if so then we have narrowed the problem down
Sorry for the scary part

Tethering won't work

Hey guys...
Two days ago i formatted my device from wanamlite 2.0 to stock 4.2.2 (israel version ILO).
Before formatting tethering was working alright. And yesterday i tried to use tethering again but it did not work. I mean, i can turn it on, get a notification that all is well, and find it through the PC. Connct to it through the PC but thn it says "no internet access".
Needless to say, my phone does connect to the internet and all seems normal.
I tried wiping data through the recovery but it didnt help.
Hope you guys can help. I'd be grateful.
Thanks in advance
Alon

Wifi works then stops

I wiped the system .. Installed the stock rooted rom then installed the kernel with wifi fix right away... Everything works perfect for about 24 hours exact and then the wifi breaks and stops working so I have to restore my phone and lose everything every 24 hours... Is there a better way to do this cuz it's kinda sucking
Restore your phone why? WiFi is a kernel controlled thing, odds are a complete restore is never necessary with connection issues. I know of nothing in a ROM that directly affects your WiFi connections. I would say worst case scenario reflash your kernel when it "breaks". Note importantly, I would get a fresh download of your kernel and baseband and re install.

??What??
What recovery?
What 'stock rooted' ROM?
What Kernel?
What WiFi Fix?
and HOW on each of those?
Then why reflash whole ROM.
What baseband (radio/modem) are you on?

Wifi fix on ROM caused data connection to not work

Hi, i'm running AryaMod V7.2 on my Note 3. The first time I flashed the ROM, the data connection worked, but wifi wouldn't, so i installed the wifi fix using ADB and after installing that, the wifi now works, but my mobile data won't connect. Does anyone know what causes this sort of issue?
Im pretty sure its your socket and http connection. I think you might need to rename or erase your wpa_supplicant.conf file, save and reboot. Data/misc/wifi/wpa_sup is your path. I had the same problem with my wifi but just flashed a new ROM and that fixed mine. About an hour later I was told how to fix it. I've never tried it but I've had people tell me that tell you fix it so its up to you if you want to take my advice. Good luck bud
