3.1 volume problems - Acer Iconia A500

Has anyone else had problems with the volume control since 3.1 has been out?

no problem here!

I had to reboot a couple of times because I lost sound... my browsers also stopped working and I had to hit stop on Manage Apps...
This happened after I put 3.1 and after I encrypted the tab

My problem is that sometime the volume gets stuck at 1 level and it wont change except if i turn the volume right off. The only solution is to reset the tablet.

i had a trouble with the sound, there was a lot of loudness and i must set volume to hight, then i installed moboplayer with his codec and now it's ok

The sound has gone...like completely

Hey everyone this is my first post so i apologise if this problem has been discussed at length already.
Ok so my current problem is that my htc hd2 wont make any sound whatsoever when using the rear speaker (so thats any ringing from incoming calls, notifications, videos, music etc..). I have played with the sound settings relentlessly but can't seem to change its current state and I have also done several hard resets. However, when accepting a phone call or when a pair of headphones are inserted into the handset the sound goes through fine, leading me to suspect that it is the rear speaker which is the problem (My speakerphone after accepting a call also doesnt work).
On two occasions I have been playing music on it in hopes for a sign of life and have had sound on very sharp bursts (no more then 2 seconds). In terms of any programs or updates that I have installed on to my handset I havent done anything but apply the updates from the HTC support website.
The problem ocurred on day 2 of using this handset and I have also sent an email to mobiles.co.uk to ask about a replacement handset. However I was having a lot of fun with this phone and wanted to keep it if it could be solved myself so if anybody has any ideas it would be very much appreciated!
Thanks
Try a hard reset. If the problem persists after that, it's certainly hardware related.
Same thing happened to my HD2 today, all sounds just stopped working for some reason, music player ring tone, notifications, everything, did a hard reset and everything works again, it is a bit worrying when it just happened out of the blue like that.

Did you accidentally turn the volume down using the button on the side of the device? Stupidly, system volume can be adjusted using this button.

Yes it can. It either changes both system and ringtone together (if you only use 1), or you have a tab for both (if you use both volumes), as per the sound and display settings in the settings tab.
No, that was the first thing that I checked, I have the single volume unchecked as well.

I find the single volume the better option, less chance of this kind of thing happening. Other than that, it sounds like you have either installed a tweak or combination of tweaks which are not compatible or you have a hardware fault.

Strange media volume issue

Hey all.
Just randomly became unable to change the media volume. Its reset to off/mute, but i can change the phone volume to loud or vibrate. Tried using audio manager after it happened and that cant change media volume either.

[Q] Nexus 7 - Sound Not Working. Partially.

I received a Nexus 7 at Google I/O, and it had a defective screen, so I had to get it replaced. Now my new one won't play sound. Haha. Bummer.
The weird thing is that it does play alarm and notification sounds, just not the media sounds.
Does anyone with more expertise on Android hardware have any ideas on why this might be happening and whether this is an issue I can rectify personally?
What I have tried so far:
1. Factory reset
2. Checked volumes (All three channels at max volume)
3. Plugged in headphones (this actually produces sound)
If it isn't in the menus, you might need root access and more help...
Have you rooted it yet?
It sounds like media sounds are routed only out the headphone jack.
Given you get alarm and alert sounds, but not media, it sounds like a configuration issue.
Let's give others a chance to chime in and see what is offered up.
Good luck...
Got mine today, got 5 whole hours playing with it and the sound went out, as did the vibration. No sound at all, did a hard reset, nothing. Now sitting on hold with google, waiting to find out how many weeks I am going to have to wait for an RMA.
Don't go to Google. Go straight to Asus.

I am having the same issue. Only audio that works is the email notification. I bought the tablet Monday and the audio stopped working yesterday. I did a factory reset through the settings menu, that didn't help. If i try to go to recovery mode, it freezes on the black google page. I did call asus. After 45 minutes of being asked if i was sure i had the volume on, they asked me to wait 2 weeks and see if an update came through to fix the problem. At one point i was put on hold and encouraged to google search for a solution while i waited. Needless to say I'm pretty disappointed. Any ideas here how to fix this? Do I wait for a fix or walk back into sams club and roll the dice again by exchanging for another? I already reset it and lost my apps and configuration
Thanks
Joe

You know my sound started working spontaneously.. haha. It was really weird. It came and went for a few days and I was still going to send it to Asus, but now the sound is completely there. Try using it for a few days??
Check if your sound works with headphones too.

I didn't think the N7 had a motor for vibration in the first place...
Mine has never vibrated.

Mine does, it stopped working when the sound stopped. Then the sound came on a few hours later, went out again shortly after that, then came back on sometime during the night. Has stayed on since. Fingers crossed it is just a software issue.

lucky. You have a vibration motor???

I have no sound at all, I've emailed Google, as I got bored on hold on the telephone.
N7 does NOT have a haptic feedback motor. Any "vibration" you've been feeling is a result of the speaker playing clicking noises loudly.
Simply put, you never had vibration. Period.

Received mine yesterday and same here - notifications ok, but no media sound through speakers (which is ok thru headphones)
Has everyone's problem 'healed up' or are anyone still without sound/sent their unit back? Are google sending a silent update out to affected machines?
I'm in the UK and am wondering whether to leave it a day or two or try and contact Google/Asus.
Cheers,
Berty
Mine is working fine at the moment. I would update to the newly released version and see if that resolves your issue.
Give it a few days at least, because your warranty won't expire for a year.
Hello
I have got the same problem as thread starter, does somebody ever found a solution for this?
I have noticed that the sound will work for a few minutes after a restart of the Nexus 7, but i disapeares again.
I have Android 4.2 installed and my device is 2 weeks old.
regards.
I got mine replaced and the new one was fine.
I experienced the same symptoms on this thread no media sound through the speaker but would get sound whilst adjusting alarm volume, I managed to fix this issue by doing the following:
Play any song through the media player then plug in the headphones and unplug them again a few times, on my nexus when I unplugged the headphones the song would pause for some reason, so press play and repeat the process. After a few tries the volume came out of the speakers.
Hope this helps some of you

Got my N7 last Augest and it started to have this exact problem last Saturday...tried this one, still doesn't work...
It looks like it's a software issue since notification sound does come out of the speaker, but problem still there after flashing differernt roms...quite a pickle!
no media sound
I have the same problem. Cracked the screen last year and got it fix last week. After I got it back I immediately updated it to kit Kat 4.4.4 (did not check the sound). Media does not work on speakers. Alarm and notifications work. Everything works on the headset

Why are ringtones quiet when the phone starts ringing?

Whenever I get a call, the ringtone is very quiet for a couple of seconds before suddenly playing at full volume. Increasing volume is disabled, so does anyone know why it does this?

Try checking and unchecking increasing volume a few times in the settings then. If that does not fix the problem you might be able to try wiping all data to do with the phone and sound settings in Settings > Applications..
It was doing it even when new out of the box though, and also when I first installed XXUAMDN, so it's definitely not an app issue or anything. Tried toggling the increasing volume toggle several times too.

you cant, but i dont know if you can when it is rooted
I'm rooted, so if anyone knows then feel free to share!
This S4 is my first Android phone and i was wandering this also as my phone has always done that for about the first 2 seconds which ive found very strange, never found a way to change it either.
I've had several android phones, but this is the first to do it.
My previous note 2 and the wife's s3 don't he same (as well as my s4).
Unsure if it's an android thing or Samsung thing.
I think it's so the phone ringing when your not expecting it doesn't frighten the living daylights out of you!
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2
It's definitely not an android thing, otherwise my previous 3 phones would have all done it too and I'd already have had a 5 year head start on learning how to stop it!
Right, just found it's a Samsung and LG thing. Seems you can edit the secphone.apk if you're rooted, or alternatively you can download an app called "disable increased ring" from the play store. With this app you get a persistent notification that it's running, but then if you go into application manager you can disable notifications for it. I tried the app and it works, no root access or custom rom needed.
Flash Omega or Wanamlite ROMs, they have this "feature" disabled

Thanks, just found an app that disables it anyway. What a stupid "feature".
I have this exact same problem on my s3 mini. So it's deffo a Samsung thing... Thanks for posting different solutions
"Disable Increasing Ring" app works fine so far.

[Q] Samsung GT-N7000 issues
