[Q] What is the reason of this boot loop? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hi
I tried to flash CM 6.1 using clockworkmod recovery, but after the installation had finished I was stuck in a boot loop.
I restored back to stock rom successfully, but I do not understand what is the problem. I wiped everything I was able to wipe before flashing, using clockworkmod recovery!
Some info about my device:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0013 (SAPP30000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.28.25
Maybe the radio or something is not compatible with the rom?
Please tell me how to fix my problem!
I didn't find a solution even though I searched for it a lot!
Thank you!
Sorry for my bad English.

For the 2.22.28.25 radio you need special kernel...
Google it and you shall find what you need :0)

use the kernels in this post ;-)Kernel 2.22.28.25

Thank you very much!
Now my device is running CM 6.1 with no problems!
Thanks!

Care to shed a little light as to what I'm supposed to do? I had the same issue as above. And the post provided is a little overwhelming.

[HEKP] Rooting with One Click rooting from 'Perfect SPL'

Hi
I just need some of the experts on the forum to check my logic. I am in the middle of doing this so Im just trying to make sure.
Details of my phone:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.33.0010 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17

I am aware that that is the 'perfect SPL'
I am using an HTC Magic from Vodacom (South Africa). The current version of my firmware is 1.5 (Cupcake).
These are the steps that I have already followed:
1.) I have succesfully changed my recovery image to this one -> Amon Ra’s Recovery Image using the One Click Rooting described by the guys from The Unlockr
2.) I can get into the recovery by pressing and holding Home + Power
My questions:
1.) Should I flash the SPL to a different one? I am looking at changing to this one: Engineering-SPL-HBOOT-1.33.2005-signed, will it work on my phone?
2.) If I need to flash the SPL can I follow the steps provided by this tutorial but instead of fastboot just use the Amon Ra's Recovery tool?
Processes to be followed:
1.) I will be changing to the RA-IONv1.6.2H ROM as provided on The Unlockr and I will be following the steps in their How to Load a Custom ROM tutorial.
As you can see, I have come a ways but I am a bit paranoid as I have previously bricked a phone. I would like some of the pro's just to check my logic and also comment on my choice of ROM and SPL.
Thank you in advance
You can use any of the SPL that are showed there... I'm using the Engineering SPL 1.33.2009 SPL...
To update it just put it on the SD and aplly update:choose (if you are using the Amon_Ra recovery) or update:update.zip if you are using another recovery (remember that if you use this method you will have to rename the file as update.zip)...
To install a rom it's quite easy, just put the rom in the SD and in the recovery make a nandroid backup, then wipe/factory reset and finally install the rom using the update option...
Restart and voila, you will have te rom... Just remember that you have to use a 32A rom...
Thanks No-Frost for the quick reply.
Another question:
If I flash the SPL, does my current ROM stay in tact or should I flash SPL and a new ROM afterwards?
Im very nervous to flash my phone again so Im trying to read up as much as possible about the process and ways to recover.
I have succesfully loaded the new SPL (Engineering SPL 1.33.2009 SPL) as well as the new ROM. The new ROM feels faster but I dont like it much. I am searching for a new one.
To answer some of my own questions:
- If you add a new SPL the current ROM still works fine (very noob question and answer but just for in case someone else has the same question)
- The Amon Ra's Recovery works very well. I prefer it to the fastboot. Just feels safer to do everything on the phone
Thanks for the help!

First ROM install trouble.

Sorry, everytime I go into recovery mode it just makes me think back to installing stuff in DOS. I've tried flashing several different versions of Cyanogen ROMs but to no avail. 4.2.5, 2.6, 2.6.1, 2.7, 2.7.1. All do the same thing. I can only revert back to fastbooting and reflashing the sappimg to get my phone operational again.
I've read somewhere that you can't flash 1.6 roms to 1.5 phones. But am I mistaken in thinking that the DRC83_base_defanged is the 1.5-1.6 bridge? Should I be using a different ROM first?
Just looking for a little guidance here. I've worked on things much more complicated than this and haven't had this much trouble. At this point I have a seperate SDcard with the sappimg.nbh ready to go.
first off check your fastboot screen again
it should say
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B SHIP S-OFF G
also what base rom u using
i used HTC_ADP_1.6_DRC83_rooted_base.zip
did you reboot between base rom and 4.28 flash

Definately says 32B SHIP S-ON G. How do I fix this?

I did whatever Cyanogen told me to. I used the DRC83_base_defanged.zip base rom. I tried wipe, flash base, flash 4.2.8, and I also tried wipe, flash base, reboot fully (failed), flash rom. Didn't think to try flashing, rebooting to recovery and flashing second half.
look for the relentless rooter in the dev section
cause ship s should be off
and don't reboot between rom installation

possible to stay on the 1.76.0009 spl??

i havent found an answer for this question.
if i root the 1.76.0009 spl. in my case with the universal androot tool.
can i just stay on this spl and install custom roms?
or is it important to switch to an engeneer spl, for example the 1.76.0007?
My Magic:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.76.0009 (SAPP10000)
RADIO-6.35
and why are there no android 2.2 roms with a working camera on the 6.35 radio??
No need for eng spl.
You need a custom recovery.
Try super eclair (2.1) it's a stable and FAST (also have JIT). The camera working.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654284
If you want froyo, then you need eng spl + flash of old spl/radio combination.
There is a tool for that in my signature...
But first (on whatever option you choose) you need custom recovery.
Follow my guide to root and flash custom recovery using the uni. androot app.:

[Q] HTC Magic from Tim Brazil - 32A

Tim Brazil Magic are these:

CPLD-12
RADIO-6.35.07.29

from what i read the SPL is perfect, can't change it or downgrade Radio.
I have to use Amon RA Hero Recovery 1.62, change to SPL 1.76.2007 and then downgrade Radio to 3.x SPL to 1.33x and install Amon Ra Magic 1.70+ to install CM
If i follow the CM wiki I won't be able to backup the stock rom because of the goldcard+european RUU to gain root access.
- So i was thinking about using Universal Androot to root it, then Rom Manager to Install ClockworkMod (using HTC Magic option) and do a backup. will it work with this 0007 SPL?
- from there, can i use clockwork to flash SPL 1.76.2007?
- then i was thinking if i could use Radio Switcher >"flash old" - so it will flash the Radio, SPL (and Amon RA recovery?) i need in a safe way (wiping everything)
if it makes sense it should be an easier and updated guide.
no need of goldcard, RUU or shell commands.
I can go back to Radio Switcher> "flash new" to have back the SPL and 6.35x Radio and restore the stock rom backup if someday Tim Brazil releases an update.
thanks in advance
Well - this is the most structured and accurate first post i ever seen :0)
You sir, have gained my respect :0)
You are completely on the right track.
I will not use Rom Manager. To many have bricked their devices with that app.
Follow my guide (check my signature for link) and you should have both root and custom recovery(Amon-Ra version) without changing your system, beside the root of course.
From the recovery you flash eng spl 1.76.2007 as you correctly stated above(also included in the guide).
Then make a nandroid backup using the custom recovery, to make sure you always can return to stock.
Once the eng spl is flashed you can use the radioswitcher(the link is also in my signature) to change between the old and new radio/spl/recovery combos. You can also wipe from the tool or from custom recovery.
The remaining is to flash the cm6 rom + the EBI1 kernel. Then you should be good to go :0)
Good luck!
Thank you
want to know the sad (and funny) part? I don't have the phone yet. I've bought it but i still got a few days left to receive it from Tim Brazil. So i've been reading...
I was hoping i could use Rom Manager, the GUI would be very easy to follow. I know it even has Amon RA as alternate recovery, but i don't think it's the Hero 1.62. I'd use it only to flash the recovery.
I think it could be done with FlashRec also. I read that it does a backup of the original recovery and then flash the custom recovery.
I've already downloaded the .zip from your guide

[Q] - HTC Magic - Cyanmod 6.x not working

Good day all here
I'm new to the forum (well posting... been trolling around for days to find some answers)
I have a problem that seems to be a common one, but I can not find any reliable answers as to why this happening to me. Maybe I can get some clarity here.
This is what I have at the moment:
Saphire pvt 32A eng s-off h
hboot-1.33.0010 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17
Recovery - Amon Ra (RAv1.2.3H)
ROM (mod) - Amon Ra (RAv1.1.0H)
Now when I boot into recovery with fastboot boot recovery (RA saphire v1.7.0H)
I wipe all (Data cash etc)
Then Flash the Kernel bc-6.0.0 edi1 (or 6.1.0)
Then flash ROM update-cm-6.0.0-DS (or 6.1.0)
Then reboot and it hangs on that first page...
Any help would greatly be appreciated.
PS. I did check all the sugested threads, I can not find the answer there. The one seemed promissing but the dude bricked his phone before a propper answer could be given.
EDIT:
Ok so I have been informed these steps
Then Flash the Kernel bc-6.0.0 edi1 (or 6.1.0)
Then flash ROM update-cm-6.0.0-DS (or 6.1.0)
Has to be the other way around... it is working now.
Rom then kernel.

lol, someone did not follow instructions carefully.
You always apply the Kernel after the ROM.
