I want to uninstall Hero of Sparta demo! I rooted my a500 with honeycomb 3.1 today and still can't uninstall the app. I bought the game from gameloft and it installs to the external SD but once I reset the tablet the game reverts to demo mode. I figure if I can uninstall the demo version and install the paid version it should work.. hopefully.
But, how do I uninstall the game thats considered a system app? Also, acer help desk is a joke. A simple reply from them "sorry, you can't uninstall any apps that come with the a500"... please help

A couple of easy ways:
Use root explorer rename the .apk file in /system/app to .apk.bak and reboot.
Use titaniumbackup or mybackup pro to freeze the app and reboot.
That worked to uninstall but now the game crashes. I notcied the demo version is 3.2.5 and the one I just downloaded from gameloft is 3.0.9... I am not having luck with this at all!
I restored it using the titanium backup and the demo works just fine... Any suggestions to get the paid version to update to 3.2.5?
Thanks

Hi gentlemen (and ladies ).
I'm having an issue with my Nexus One (and the misses with her Desire).
Both of them are up to date, stock rom, nothing fancy installed.
I (and her) are unable to install the new YouTube application. We can't find it in the market, nor can we update through AppBrain for example.
So my question to you all is: WHY?
We live in Belgium.
Extra: My Nexus One can't update Amazon MP3 and Voice Search neither.
All other updates work correctly, I just received the GMail update, so that works just fine .
Any suggestions?
I also cannot install the new YouTube app. I've tried a ton of times now, so its not you it must be a problem on Google's end. Should be fixed soon.
Youtube installed fine for me.
Maybe you have a version thats signed differently ? themed?
try uninstalling what you have first.
Try uninstall the app with Titanium Backup and then install from market. This resolves the problem for me

Yup, this is what I've always done. I had to do it with the new Gmail and YouTube apps.
I use root explorer to delete the app from \system\apps then reboot and re-install from market. Simple enough, though I usually still have to reboot between removing and reinstalling.
Kind of a pain but that's what we get for running custom rom's I guess
Well gentlemen, thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it. The problem is: I don't have a rooted phone. I guess I'll wait for Gingerbread, that'll happen pretty soon I guess
I rooted my nook touch but the market won't let me download any apps. any suggestions?
What method did you use?
I got it fixed....I finally got it to download dropbox and then I installed vending.apk which makes the market work better
Is anyone having problems downloading apps on the market? I have no made Any market updates, and yet it seems to be giving me problems constantly, im failing to download anything i seem to come across.
If i log onto the market on my desktop and click it there, it will send to my tablet, but for some reason i get Error processing purchase when trying to do so on my tablet.
Im on Honeyvillian Kernal 3.4, as well as CivatoMix3. Any help would be appreciated.
I installed the new 3.3.11 Market, even if it was said to be unstable for Honeycomb tablets, and i can once again download apps. Guess i deal with it being unstable..

I use the 3.1.6 market, its optimized for HC and I havent had any problems.
i also got the same problem with this message and after some google search i did the same as you.upgrade to 3.3.1.1 solved this.have never use 3.1.6 though
anyone knows why my tablet doesnt show up on my google account so i can send apps from market using my pc?
thanks a lot, hope you dont have a problem that im using your topic to ask for this..
p.s HoneyVillain 1.2 rom
If you have issues with the Market app, and doing a regular upgrade doesn't fix it, then..
Using Root Explorer, Delete the current vending.apk
Copy the new market version.apk, and rename it to Vending.apk.
Check permissions as they have to be the same as other files.
Reboot device
Go to app manager and force close, and clear the cache
Should work fine then.
I recently updated my Iconia a500 to the lastest update(unrooted). Since then the honeycomb market first appears when i open it, however if I try to install an app it stays at waiting to install...if I go to my apps from the app it opens it in the pre honeycomb version which is presumably the phone version. After that the honeycomb version is nowhere to be found untill I reinstall it. What might be the solution to this?
Thanks in advance for your help guys.
Has your tablet always been stock and unrooted..
Did you install the new market on the tablet before acer updated your tablet to the new market.if So where did you d/load it from.. There is a market .apk on the internet that has something wrong with it that causes this.. It installs on your tablet. Not replacing the original Market app. This was asked alot back when the new market first came out.
you can go to where the aps are system/apps and see if there is more then one market app. delete them both .
i went into settings then privacy .untick the backup account and automatic restore data this stops google from restoring data files for both market apps .then find a Legit verson of the android market apk..
Do a search on google for this issue to get step by step instructions. I am writing this out of my memory and it could be a bit off.

Thanks for your reply, my tablet has always been stock and unrooted, and for as long as I can remember has had the honeycomb market interface. Under manage applications there are two instances of the android market, the honeycomb one which can be uninstalled (uninstalls itself when I open the older version also) and the older version which doesn't have the option to be removed only remove updates.
im guessing the one that you can remove is a app that you installed..
I suggest you backup your files. to sd card..
Go to
settings
Privacy ..
and at the bottom you will see factory reset.. this will reset the tablet to total stock and remove the apps that did not come factory installed..
this should fix this issue.. for some reason a update did not remove the old market app or you installed it not knowing or forgot you did so...
Thanks for your help was hoping there was some other solution....I'm considering rooting it and installing a custom rom like what i did with my HTC sensation... once again thanks!!!
unfortunatley this need ROOT privilages.
Download "Market 3.4.4.apk" install with any File explorer app.
It's tuff to make the Market find outdated apps sometimes!
Doubtful : maybe there is a way to have a "market 3.4.4" made into a .zip file, rename to "update.zip" and boot into your stock recovery and it will add in ROM.
Hello! Been lingering here for quite some time reading all kinds of helpful information from the community. Thanks for everything!
Now, I am wondering if there is a procedure to update apps that were installed via Fire Toolbox?
The specific example is my kids have Minecraft on their Fires that I installed for them by manually installing the apk directly. They already had accounts so a straight install and sign in was all that was needed. For me to update their apps, I need to:
1. Backup their worlds
2. Uninstall minecraft
3. Install new version of minecraft
4. Move worlds back onto device
5. Download their Marketplace content
Huge time suck and PITA. Thoughts?
Maybe you can try to sideload that new update of Minecraft, but instead of uninstalling the app, you keep everything but the app gets updated. I've done that, however not sure if it applies to every apk. I do know it works on some, but I've never really updated Minecraft that often with an APK.
Yep, I tried that again just so I could grab a screenshot. Toolbox tells me I cannot update that way. It wants me to uninstall and reinstall. My very rusty tech/software minded brain tells me there is probably some missing link between the app and Google Play store.

You have to do it in Fire Tablet, not at Fire Toolbox.
I don't think that is possible.? I do not have the tablet registered with Amazon so as to keep it as close to stock Android as possible with Nova Launcher.
Doing this means I do not have Amazon Appstore and the manually installed Minecraft doesn't show up in Google Play store in a way that I can update it. Play just shows "Uninstall" and "Play". I have searched Manage Apps as well and Minecraft doesn't show up at all as if it's not linked to the Store at all.

Here's the thing - you can download the apk on the device with a file explorer.
Install an android file explorer
Then you can put the .apk on your tablet.
Run the .apk via the file explorer.
@webhook You have made this multitudes easier! Minecraft updates without the extra steps!
Only snag left, which I am going to leave as-is, is that the game doesn't automatically update via Google Play. I will update this post when their next update comes through so I can verify that comment or not.
Thank you!!!
