I was so happy that I finally got my 3.1 update last week for my iconia but 3.2 is ready to come out in a few days... Hopefully we will get this update sooner this time.

From what I read online 3.2 is suppose to be a version optimized for 7 inch tablets and the Icecream Sandwich 4.0 will be release in the 4th quarter of the the year for all tablets.
Nevermind... it will be ported for sure. Heheh
Based on Acers history, do you think there is much of a chance we will even officially see a android 4 (ICS) release for the A500?

Bet you fifty bucks we get it from the devs here LONG before we get it from Acer.
Google have said that ICS will be open-source, so that's the point where you'll start seeing some real innovation in tablet ROMs. At the moment the custom ROMs are nice, but it's largely tinkering around the edges + new kernels. ICS will change that.
So I wouldn't worry too much about Acer bringing it to the A500 - someone will, and it'll be better than Acer would have done it.
Moved as not development, please read the rules and post in the correct section ONLY.
Besides, just wondering why are you posting XOOM news in Acer A500 forum ?

Actually it is about development, whats the difference between this and other post in development just mentioning about 3.1. And I did not post it about the Xoom, I was just showing everyone that 3.2 can be expected in a few months, or years lol, for the iconia.

You get those types on any forums, not just this one. Support forums tend to be worse because there is a lot of the same questions being asked over and over and it tends to build up animosity and resentment among the people who've been around for a while. There is really nothing you can do except add a disclaimer with every post, explaining how you've exhausted every other option prior to posting. There will always be the crowd that feels posting on a support forum should be a last resort, to be used only after every other resource has been drawn upon. I've seen that iron-fisted approach turn some boards into vacant wastelands. In comparison, it's really not that bad here...for now.
Back on topic: I think the original poster was posting a seemingly Xoom topic on an A500 board because there a lot of A500 owners still wondering if they made the right purchase and look to compare the two. I speak as an A500 owner when I say that if a new patch comes out, and the Xoom gets it first, I damn well want to know about it.
Cheers,
-PW

But yeah, at least the gs family looks like it will all get gingerbread.
Usually if its pertaining to Froyo/GB people don't mind seeing it in here. Hell, most people only view this subforum of the Fascinate and not general or any others. But you're right.
I feel like the Epic and Vibrant will get it in a few months, and then 25 years later Captivate, Mesmerize, Fascinate.

I don't see how it'd be ironic if Samsung is first.
Google worked with them to release Gingerbread on some hardware that was only slightly different from the rest of their phones... They had an experience, resource, and time advantage over every other carrier... and yet they failed.
That's ironic. Samsung had every advantage, and yet couldn't even freaking get Gingerbread out on their flagship product before someone else. Seems like more motivation to me to avoid any future Samsung products.
And yeah, where to post things seems pretty obvious to me: Any discussion thread, where we're just talking about various random things go in General, questions go in Q&A, and actual releases (or things closely related to development... random questions about a ROM wouldn't warrant a new thread) go in Development. Posting things in the wrong section just to get more eyes seems fairly silly to me... if people aren't reading General, it's probably because they aren't interested in those things, probably only wanting actual ROMs/kernels/etc. Then again, making any comment on this topic seems to be a good way to get people to just flame you.

Yeah, but the current team is responsible for making the atrix compatible with cm7 (thus, they're doing most of the work). Once that's done, they'll be giving it to the official team so they can support it.

I'm pretty sure the dev team has said all they need to do is get the fingerprint scanner and webtop working then they can submit it to cyanogen mod to try and get official status, since before cyanogen will accept any port it must not break any functionality that the stock rom had

Exactly why this is such an ambitious effort. Some people might not have the fortitude (or the patience!) for this phone's technology to be fully realized. For me, I'm kind of excited to own such a unique device and hope the developers aren't discouraged by such a challenge.

I think a lot of the trolls here are just ungrateful...they constantly complaining about things not work like they want them to work and they are constantly bugging the devs about when when when! These same trolls do not take a mere breath to stop and say thank you to the devs that work hard for free. Since you still don't realise what the word "troll" actually means, let me clarify for you.
A troll is someone who posts inflammatory extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.
ie the very people you are complaining about are not, in fact, trying to provoke people, but rather are just uninformed people asking for help. In fact, you are the one closer to a troll then they are since you keep insulting them instead of directing them to the right answer, potentially provoking them into an outlash of anger.

We dont sit here and update or post all day because its un needed, exhausting on its own, and frusterating to the point of cursing. I can once a week come to this thread and after going through 20+ pages find maybe one thing worth replying to, like this time and the gentleman that requested a few pages back that i call this kang and not official ?!? Why because we have waited till we deemed ready to merge ? Everything we released has been stable and useable i have not touched another rom in months, we will merge shortly, it will be up todate 2.3.7 or what ever uptodate is than. We are all running 2.3.7 curently , there has not been another release because IOO there has not been enough added fixes that we felt the need to do so yet. Mostly we have been waiting on FP. I have it working 100% fine actually better than stock, but it haz created a bug with calls when enabled for an unknown reason. I have been working on the same bug for over 2 weeks . Once again iwasted more time i could have spent on the bug to reply to those of you that felt i needed to "give updates" to a 170 page hell hole where no one reads in the first place Anyhow we appreciate your all excited , so are we , mostly so we can stop working keep in mind we want itcompleted and working obiously more than you do so either relax and wait or keep yelling inhere like a jakaninny IDGAF, but i will post updates when i am ready as will the other team members. For one thing, because it's the latest version of Android, and there may be fixes for things that are broken 'Good old Honeycomb'. We all want to have the latest thing on our devices, and we don't necessarily want to wait on VZW to test and approve it.
For another thing, we want this because it's actually open source, unlike Honeycomb. Since the source code for HC was unavailable, there was only so much the devs could do as far as making a ROM that was as feature rich as what they would like to offer to the community. Having the code laid out bare allows them to do cool stuff that we all benefit from.
Also, that XDA Noob video was awesome.
And let's not get lost in the fact that honeycomb ain't that great.

Stop posting this link to the G1 over and over, it's completely irrelevant.
Wait a minute here if a low spec phone like the G1 can run ICS now thats very relevant and good news.
What really surprises me is that such an old device still has developers porting new roms... hmm I think you all know where I am going with this.
This thread is still clogged with useless tidbits of speculation... it is irrelevant because the g1 != nook color. Work is being done in the other thread. This section is not for discussion. This thread is absolutely useless here.

i agree with pavlos.. this is relevant because it was just bringing a point that if a device with as little of memory as the G1 could be developed to carry ICS our NC have more than enough power and ability to run it.. I know there is more to it but that's where this thread was basically leading.. if there is going to be more than just CM9 for us...

Did you see how *awful* it ran, though? I don't doubt ICS is going to be pretty ugly on the NC, and better on the Tablet. We just don't have the CPU to really run ICS well.

Our Nooks will run ICS fine.
... it doesn't take a genius to know that we can run ics on a nook color. Any android device can run any android. Albeit very Soddy on some. However... the g1 running ics is still irrelevant to the nook running ics, both physically and and technically. The g1 is not the nook color end of story. I could care less if your microwave was running ice cream sandwich, its so damn irrelevant. This thread is hearsay all over.
This thread should be locked or moved
I agree that this speculation thread should be moved to the NC general section, and out of the android developer section.
But, come on guys, get a little more polite.
Nothing is FORCING you to continue to read this thread or respond to it.
Given the number of responses and reads of this thread, people are interested in the topic, even if it is speculation at this time.
Mellow out.
It was funny at first, but seems the lag from the Asus 300 getting a thread and the A510 folks is standing out, especially since the A510 was released first. I am surprised the A500 folks have not tried to evict us.
Added: For perspective, the gosh awful VS Gtablet got a thread. I still have my Gtablet... not sure if that is a good thing. I was not cold enough to try and sell it to somebody- not that cruel.
So what are you crying about, the A501 hasn't got its own forum either... We share too...

How different is the A501 vs A500? Now compare the A510 with the A500. Thank you

The most important discussions about a tablet occur when its first released. By the time there is an a510 forum, most of the relevant info will be burried on one insanely long thread under the wrong device as it is now, or located on another website altogether.
Personally, I think it should have been up and running on the day of release, if XDA really wants to be on the cutting edge. Otherwise it ceases to be a resource for early adopters, which I belive is a very large percentage of the XDA audience.
Of course, the sad truth may be that, tablets are not considered a priority here. Instead smart phones are given all the attention because they have the largest market share ie most users. Thats a judgement call as to where to put the most resources. Maybe we need two XDA websites: XDA Phone and XDA Tablet!
Bump bump bump
did you all folks vote for the "add a section for my device" thread ??

It's been put up, so let's see what will happen, there are also requests to merge with A700.
Can't promise anything
There's an a700 forum but no a510 forum...

As of a few minutes ago, there's now a merged A700 & A510 thread.
Have fun there!
And farewell :crying:
