Morning all,
Is anyone running the Gbread 595 leak yet? I am thinking about trying it out this morning, as everything I read indicates it will be the launching point for what could be the official 596 release on the 13th.
Let me know if you have any observations on this.
Thanks,
Steve
I downloaded it yesterday, and am running liberty v.5 on top of it and I love it. It is really fast, and other than a few bugs with my contacts syncing up with facebook, I am having no problems.
Im gonna wait it out, till we get the official release... Apex2.0.0 is pretty sweet for now

I agree. Apex is amazing. I will wait for it to update
Weird issue I am running into....
I upgraded to 588 with no problems from 340 Froyo. I used DroidX recovery to accomplish this. When I rebooted 588 I tried to go to 595. I tried using DroidX recovery but this did not allow me to boot into recovery...it only gave me a blank screen. When I got back to 588 I uninstalled DroidX recovery and then installed Droid2 recovery. I was then able to reboot into recovery and try to install 595. The install aborted saying it was looking for 3 arguments and got 4.
Any ideas? Which recovery should I be using thoughtout this?
Thanks,
Steve
Both recoveries (AFAIK) are the same clockwork recovery, it's just a different method of "bootstrapping" so that you can get into the recovery. Droid2 bootstrap works on gbread unless USB debugging is disabled, then droidx bootstrap works.
Sounds like you got a bad file.
Just redownload the file and it should work
Yes the one I downloaded yesterday was bad, and a new one was uploaded. I just downloaded the new one and am going to try again to move back up to 595. Once that happens I am hanging on til the 13th.
I would assume once this official update comes out then VZW will no longer support the DX with official updates. We really need to get Moto to unlock the bootloader for us, so we can continue to develop for the DX.
Steve
I have made it successfully to 595. I am having a problem with Gingerbreak 1.2, so I am betting there is something in 595 that doesnt allow it to root.

P3Droid released three different versions of .595: full stock, rooted and odexed, and rooted and deodexed.
You can try flashing one of the rooted .595 releases.

Yes it looks like the rooted ones will accept Gingerbreak. I may go back to .591 and hold there until the official OTA version comes out.
You shouldn't need Gingerbreak on the rooted ones, as they are already rooted.

If you are going to flash a rooted version what do you need gingerbreak for?

So you're not running it at all then... lol. You downgraded it back to .591 when you installed Liberty.

Curious, I'm running .573 now, if I flashed the latest rooted & deoxed, do I really have to sbf back to Froyo before hand like I've read in other places? OR can I just flash over it and roll on?
You only need to flash back if you don't have root, I believe.

Not having luck.
I tried to install, initially from my rooted deoxed stock .340 to rooted deoxed .595, first got a corrupted file report....would not upgrade.
Next got boot loop (repeating M), so SBF back to stock 340...Rooted and tried again with the same file and got a very unstable phone, reboots etc.
The only thing I can think of is that the phone was stock rooted but not deoxed, so when I tried loading the deoxed version it didn't like it? no idea.
I did a wipe before each load but can't seem to get it to work on my phone. My phone is very new.
SBF'd back to stock unrooted and I'll leave it like that to see if I can get the update from VZW.
I believe you have to start at .588 (or .573) then flash .591 over it, then flash .595 over it.

I'm on 2.2 and waiting. Just not convinced about 595 and getting the update. How do we know its going to be 596.

Not completely accurate.. I went from .588, to .595 without any adverse effects. Phone is a bit snappier than before too, app drawer scrolls more fluidly, etc.
I'm running 4.5.595 on my Droid X.... I can't pull the update. I am not rooted right now but I wanna get the final update..... Help?

More than likely you'll have to AND back to froyo
Anyone seeing a failed update? It made it through the download and rebooted probably went a quarter of the way and the triangle with exclamation point rebooted and reported failure.
went back to froyo and now im running .596 ,,,,, kind of a hassle but im good to go now

Are you serious????? You were too Damn lazy to search the forums and google on how to fix it? This is the reason we have locked bootloaders. NEVER root your phone again if you aren't going to try to find out how to fix it if it breaks

There's no root available for the OTA.
I am on a Thunderbolt but I am helping some friends today upgrade to a rooted version of GB using P3droid's method listed previously in this Thread. My question is, during the install while in CWMod recovery do I need to format system/data/ and Cache and then Mount system before installing the individual zips? It isn't clear to me in the instructions. A response would be much appreciated, Thanx

What version is the dx on now? If its already on leaked gingerbread then just flash the deodexed .596 update... If coming from any custom rom or stock froyo then wipe data and cache, I didnt mount

I haven't seen anything about the updated ClockworkMod Recovery here on XDA, and I'm not sure if many others know about it. =P
Update: ClockworkMod Recovery for the Droid X has been updated to 5.0.2.0. A new blue recovery!
WARNING: This can be used on both 2nd init and blur roms; however, on blur roms you must first use Droid 2 Bootstrapper to bootstrap.
EDIT: Make sure that you're ROM Manager is up-to-date. A new version was just released that fixes bugs with flashing the new recovery.
Open ROM Manager and select 'Flash ClockworkMod Recovery'.
When it asks you to confirm your device select 'Droid X (2nd init)' or 'Droid X', respective to your current rom.
It should then download and install ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.0.
Reboot hy holding the power button and selecting Reboot > recovery, or rebooting to recovery from ROM Manager. Enjoy your new blue recovery ^_^
EDIT: In MIUI on the Defy base you must use `CWM Recovery' from the reboot menu to access ClockworkMod Recovery.

Strange...I did those steps and I'm still getting v2.5.0.8
Try seeing if an update is available for ROM Manager. If it is, install the update and try again.

Found the update.zip files however how do I flash it with ROM Manager? I've used it maybe a handful of times and that was only when I first started playing with ROMs late last year. I haven't used it since then...always done everything with CWM.

No, I mean check the Marketplace to see if an update for ROM Manager is available. It was updated this morning to further support CM7 on the Droid X.

Oh weird...it didn't show up in my Market list as needing an upgrade but was available. No luck though Gonna try removing ROM Manager entirely with TB, rebooting & reinstalling ROM Manager to see if that fixes it.

Thank you Captain Obvious j/k
I get kind of tired of hearing my wife say "what are you doing to your phone now?" if I reinstall a ROM too much in one week LOL
Yea still no luck
Did the following (based on a suggestion in the Rootzwiki forum):
- Fully removed RM & the Premium license files
- rebooted
- reinstalled RM & Premium license
- Cleared Download cache in RM
- re-installed CWM 2.5.0.8 (chose Droid X)
- Cleared Download Cache
- updated CWM to 4.0.0.5 (choosing DX 2nd-init)
- reboot
- no luck
Gonna try removing RM again & going straight to CWM 4.0.0.5 to see if that works.
What good does having the newer recovery do? Just curious.

I got mine working now An update came out (v4.3.2.3) which mentioned a fix for this exact problem & it updated properly for me too. I did notice that cache partition wiping is not as fast as v2.5.0.8 but who cares...IT'S ORANGE!
I know right, that is some sexy orange. One thing though is I've heard that you can only use backups made with 4.0.0.5, haven't actually run into myself since I cull my backups every once and a while to free up SD card space, and that some update zips won't work anymore because the new clockwork requires another file inside of it, my memory is failing me on what that file exactly is.
How is the 2nd inti different from Koushs recovery? I heard it had something specifically to do with CM7. But why cant they use the normal CWM. Wasn't obsidian able to use the regular CWM it was almost pure AOSP besides the kernel. So why the change? Just curious why it is needed.

Thank you very much I am now indulged in an interesting read.
EDIT: Ok so I read the post and followed it somewhat not knowing all the technicalities but got the jist of it. We still cant unlock the boot loader or kernel. Knowing this, what features are not going to be implemented in CM4DX?

Hey guys, I have a question about upgrade to other Roms from a rooted gingerbread ver. 4.5.573
I already have Droid 2 bootstrapped and have this version rooted. So would I be able to just upgrade via bootstrapped straight to a new rom?

Do u have clockwork recovery installed? If not, download "rom manager" from market place, and install clockwork. And from there u should be set, however u may need to update to a newer version of gb, the newer roms are running on to of .595 & .596.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA Premium App
at this point you may really want to consider getting up to a .596 base before flashing a newer rom. liberty for example is only going forward on the .596 build, they even pulled earlier gb versions (v.01-5) from their toolbox as those were all built on the earlier gb leaks
once you make a reliable .596 backup you should find it much easier to switch between roms, tbh app now has a one step zip to take you to .596 rooted from any other framework.
none selected the
Could you link me to that zip? Cause I have black hat release but the version says its: 4.5.573_MB810 is there a newer one?

OK, now HERE's my question. Cause I have NO CLUE what I'm running anymore -.-
First thing: I'm running system version: 4.5.573.MB810.Verizon.en.US
So does this mean I have a order cracked version?
Second thing: I have a droid strapper backup of rooted froyo, so if I do need to go back to froyo, can I just load up this backup?? or do I need to sbf back?

pull battery, enter stock recovery, wipe data, reboot
Thanks, Yeah figured out that my sbf was corrupt re-did it with new file and now working on .596
AND JUST AN FYI to those people who are wondering about the recovery for the 2 part gingerbread update: you choose "install from .zip file" not install update.zip
Do that 2 times, part1 then part2. If it doesnt boot up the first time after you exit, pull battery and reboot again. worked for me the second time
Hi everyone, I been reading on this forum for a quiet some time now but never felt the need to create an account to post any questions. because i always find informative threads that help me solved my problems but not this time.
i been helping my friend to tried to install a custom rom on his D2, i wouldnt say im very experienced, but i have done it to couple other phones including a droid x so im kind of familiar with what to do.
so i rooted it, bootstrapped, using rom manager to install cwm, then bootstrapped to cwm recovery, from there wipe data / cache, then install zip from sd.
i tried with cyanogen mod first, but it didnt work, it would get stuck on the m logo after rom is installed, so i sbfed it and repeat the whole process and installed the liberty this time but same thing happened again, so i repeated the whole process again and i tried liquid smooth just now, and it still didnt work.
is there something im missing?
You need to make sure the phone is on gb. Also wipe data/cache/dalvik once before you flash and twice after.
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
so it has to be 2.3 and above? the system say its 2.2 right now, but the sbf file i used its "vbz a955 2.3.20_1ff" so i assumed it was on gb. is there specific version of gb i need to upgrade to?
thanks for the suggestion
To flash cm7 or any gingerbread rom you have to first be on the ota 2.3.3
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
ooohh thanks! whats the best way to update to 2.3.3? do you have a link? all the links i see is for 2.3.0
thanks alot hope if works
The best was to update is to sbf to stock 2.2 then accept the ota update. Then once you update you can root, bootstrap then install cm7.
