Anybody without a corp account try flashing this yet?
i flashed it today and I do NOT have the CorpEmail account. I really hope this doesn't stop me from getting root.

i have, no differences at all. battery life will tell in a day or two
So are we safe letting update go thru? Or should we hold off if we want root?
I wouldn't flash it yet. It contains a recovery image and I don't know if anyone knows for certain what's different about the image.
Would this have the correct test keys?
I flashed. Not noticing anything unexpected. Im getting my incredible replaced anyway. Sounds like I'm listening to people talk underwater.
I doubt you'd notice anything different; I'm just afraid that they've closed a useful hole.
Now if this thing would just stop asking me every 20-30 minutes ... grrrr.
The update fixes the email client for business users.
The meat of the update they don't tell you about, however, is there is a new recovery image in the updater. So yeah, maybe a hole was closed.
I held down volume down button and hit power, booted into the prompt, selected "recovery mode," and all I got was a red triangle and exclamation point.
I downloaded the zip, renamed it update.zip, and put it on /sdcard using Astro.
Am I doing something wrong?
I have the exact same problem.
dont do it
Just checking to see if people successfully installed this OTA update from the mirror site link provided earlier in this thread. I think it's my only chance to go to FroYo without using RUU/wiping the phone.
I figure I can update from 1.22.605.0 with this update and then go to the FroYo thread and run that update. Does that sound like it will work?
This whole subject was coverd in another thread.

read the other thread, you need to update to 1.22.605.2 first, easy and does not lose date.
Root and OTA
I have rooted with unrevoked 3.1 but still have stock 2.1. Do I need to unroot to install the OTA or will the OTA still be pushed to my phone while I am still rooted?
It downloads this update, and then reboots to install but hangs up on triangle,
currently I am on .11 ver.

Did you download through Acer or an update on this site?
If you downloaded the update from this site.......
Have you decrypted the update first. What country are you in, as this may not be the latest update.
From system update, it downloads itself and goes to reboot then hangs up with triangle and exclamation sign, I am in USA.
I am same as OP except I am at ver .10. I am unrooted.
what GEN are you both? Look in settings...about tablet build number (very bottom of about)
I encountered some problem with this update as well just this morning. I check for updates via the settings menu and found this new build .13, I ran the updated and it went through the motions of the install. It went to the android logo with the spinning gears and around 95-98% of the install status bar, it appeared that the install had gotten stuck. The android logo gears was no longer spinning and the progress bar seemed to have stopped moving. I rebooted it, got to the lock/unlock screen but was stuck...I couldn't unlock the device. Rebooted several times but got the same results. I reverted back to a copy of .11 that I have saved on my mini sd and got it unstuck. Ran the update again and progress got stuck around 95-98%. I waited longer this time and the device rebooted on it's own. Got the acer logo and then screen went black...sat there for a few more minutes until I decided to turn the device off and turn it on again. It booted fine this time around, I then received the "Update was successful" status and "APK successfuly loaded" status. Check the info under settings and sure enough my a500 is now on build 4.010.13.
So going back to your original post, it appears that the only way you can get past the triangle with an exclaimation point status is to run an update.zip of build 4.010.11. Look through this post...

do you have CWM installed instead of acer recovery image??
Did you rename/remove any system files and such???
these are a few to check if OTA will not install.
I will wait for the installable zip............

Like I said, I'm GEN 1 bought in the US. I updated with that file, and the GPS.conf file in it is set to north america, not Australia, so take it as you will, but that's a north America update.
I was able to get the 4.010.13 update to install from 4.010.11. I'm very surprised as I couldn't get 4.010.10 to install no matter what I tried (I was on 4.010.08 initially. To get .11 on my A500 I downloaded the encrypted .zip from this XDA forum.
My initial update try of .13 failed. I was rooted, so I went into Acer Recovery and flashed the stock recovery image, then I un-rooted. I then downloaded the .13 update, plugged the A500 in and installed. The little progress meter hung at about 90% installed for a couple of minutes, but then it shut down, rebooted and the update was successful.
Then I immediately re-rooted, of course
Here is a link to today's .13 US update:
http://cdn.acer.futuredial.com/Acer_A500_0.000.00_4.010.13_COM_GEN2_1311738150515_bde864c2.zip
Mine hung at the bee/triangle screen as well.. though i was able to hold power button for 2 seconds to shut it off. Upon powering it back up it booted fine back into .11 and gave a message that the update failed.
Curious to see what's in these 14 megs...
edit... tried to look in that zip but keep getting error message about it being corrupted.. anyone else have success in looking under the hood?
edit#2- using acer recovery i put my recovery back to stock and applied update successfully... I did NOT have to flash the rom over again.
can't install OTA 4.10.13
Hi all,
I am in California, my acer got OTA update to 3.1 build number 4.010.07 Gen2
I root my acer for using NTFS driver, still got OTA update to 4.010.10, Yesterday, I installed acer recovery and Clockworldmod, to day I got OTA update to 4.10.13 but it failed, I uninstall acer recovery and repeat update it failed, How can I remove Clokworldmod to get OTA 4.010.13?, can I install 4.010.13 without OTA?
Thanks in advance

No offense intended, but what does your post have to do with what I said. I bought my unit in the US. It is a GEN1, and the update I just did was a GEN1 as well. The update has a north american gps.conf file from North America, which makes me good to go.
So my question for you is (no offense intended), but why did you post that to me??
4.010.11 -> 4.010.13 ota
Here's what I had to do to get from .11 to .13 - in case it might help others
Un-root not needed, just need to replace CWM with stock recovery.
Use Acer Recovery to restore recovery to 4.010.11 stock recovery - if you didn't take a backup then the "stock" option on the bottom may work for you - haven't tested though
Accept and download OTA .13 update - at reboot it will patch (noticed a different screen for this update than I'm used to seeing - a green droid with gears in it - used to seeing the bee/box - odd)
Use Acer Recovery to install CWM again
In other news Netflix still works with the Transformer patch, haven't really tested anything else.
Just saw on here that .13 was availabe, so I check my tab and it was indeed there (currently .11 GEN2).
Downloaded and hit install and the tablet shutdown (did not go into recovery). Had to hold power button for a few seconds to boot up, then it went into stock recovery (In afterthought, I would have sworn I had CWM installed, but maybe not..)
Like others said, it seemed to hang around 90%, but I just left it alone for a few minutes and it finished and rebooted. Now at 4.010.13_COM_GEN2.
PS. Did not lose root when updating.

perhaps because gen1 does not refer to the hardware unit.
Mine was bought at a staples in PA not all that far from you and came with gen1 software onboard. The official OTA for 3.1 was gen2.
Don't assume you are gen1 for life....
There are different code trains for a reason here.. the numbering does not make sense to the average user. For instance, in the US we have to deal with the FCC. That reason in particular is why we have different wifi drivers than other parts of the world. We can't use all of the channels that the rest of the world can because the FCC hasn't approved them all. The differences in roms from one region of the world often revolve around such regulatory differences.
The rom version you have loaded took your tab's software outside of the US code train. The fact you posted a network time protocol server showing a US link hardly means anything since NTP uses UTC regardless of where you are in the world. I'm sure we could document a large number of items that work perfectly normal for you on that rom as well. It's the regulatory stuff you are probably on the outskirts of right now.
But hey, if you're happy on that rom, more power to you. Please however stop telling people that code is part of the US codetrain when it is not though.

Ok so i unzip and put on external SD card - do the power-Volup button and it will update - will this totally undo my system - or will it simply update the tablet without any other changes.....never did manual update - but waiting for the lottery update of Acer is irritating.
Maybe after a bit i won't be so skittish but being Windows person you can understand.
The update will only update your system, you will lose root if you have it, and your files, configurations and apps remains intact.
Yes, you have to put the update.zip file in your external_sd and use Power Vol- to flash it.

Dear all,
I got a update notification today. I was so happy to see that.
I spent 20 mins on downloading this firm, but after the unzipping procedure,
it exit Andriod OS and reboot to a DOS-like system.
I saw a bee on the screen, there was a ProcessBar under this bee.
When the process went to around 20%, the process was failed and a "!" was shown up.
I installed Acer Recovery Installer on my tablet and I have Recovery on it as well.
Is it the reason why I cannot update my OS?
Help!!!!!
Easier way to get official OTA updates from acer is to be full stock :
- stock rom
- stock recovery / bootloader
Remember that updating to stock 3.2 will makes you lose root

Update 3.2 failed
Hello, I have the same problem, I can install the stock with CWM? if so, where can I download? the ROM?
(sorry for my bad english)
My device is Acer Iconia Tab A501
I am having quite a bit of problem updating my A500. After the update downloaded the first time, it gave me an error saying update is invalid. After that it is constantly trying to download. As soon as 357 MB is downloaded, instead of asking me whether to install now or later, it just goes ahead and tries to re-download all over again. As you know it takes some 20 mins to get the whole 357MB over wifi, so I went ahead and unchecked the automatic update checkbox in system update. Does anyone know where the downloaded file ends up? I could just try to run it from that location.
My system was rooted, but once I got the last ROM update (3.1), the tablet was unrooted and none of the rooted apps work anymore. So I don't think I should be having root related issues unlike some of you who are having problems. Any help is appreciated.
Fix for "Invalid Update" problem .....
Samaruf,
I suggest that you have a look at Post #4 in the following thread......
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18132338#post18132338
This thread appears to be focused on a different problem. The resolution to your problem is at the above thread. Good luck....
Okay guys. I've searched and searched and found nothing, almost found something but wasn't definitive enough, and wasn't going to risk bricking my device.
Acer Iconia A500 Wifi Version
Current OS Version: HC 3.0.1
FLEX Version: 04_COM_GEN1
Kernel Version: 2.6.36.3
Build Number: ACER_A500_1.145.04_COM_GEN1
Now, notice I only bought this end of December-ish 2011 but this device has been out for quite some time. I don't know what is going on with Acer right now but this thing will not update through the system update no matter how many times I click on it. (tap on it you know what I mean)
Now, I wanted to do it manually, since I was able to do so on my Nexus S with ICS. But there are so many version out there and most of those forums say that if you don't use the correct region you'll brick your device.
Also, I searched my build number and only 1 person on 1 forum here on XDA Devs had the same build number and even then was only saying it to share. I cannot find anything regarding this build number, or what build to use to upgrade to 3.2.1, or all the way up to even if it takes multiple updates.
I know that Acer A500s are supposed to be getting ICS 4.0 sometime this month in Jan, but I'd like to be able to be updated to 3.2 at least while I'm here.
NOTE: I DO NOT WANT TO ROOT ANYTHING (That is not what she said)
Can someone take a look at my build number and current versions and what not, and please point me in a direction to get this thing upgrade to 3.2?
Thanks. A lot. In advanced. And stuff.
-B00mer
I'm actually facing the same problem too. Same build number, and no updates found. I checked Acer's website and say a document for updating to 3.2. The document mentions certain build numbers from different countries that are eligible for an update, and ours is not in the list. I wonder what Acer is up to?

Hey mate,
Thanks for doing that. However I've used that widget and registered when I got it and its been 2 weeks now. I guess I wasn't able to find that on google mostly because I've been looking under the assumption that because this is an android OS there would be a more technical way of updating the device. Lol.
Not giving up though.

Some people are reporting that updates come in waves, I know the latest update is doing the rounds now so you might have to wait till that has finished and then you might get a catch up one.
I would just give acer nz a call and ask them
Try and get a date for ICS as well

Just root it, then update. After that you can install a none rooted updated 3.2.1 stock rom
Hi b00mtastik,
I had the same problem with an iconia a couple of days ago. I tried different things and managed to fix it.
I'll try to give you step by step how to fix it (not sure if it will work for you).
I thought that the people from the shop i got the tablet played with it and put some custom rom and so i tried to get it to stock.
I used stuff from this thread.
1. You have to root your tablet - Click here
2. You have to install Clockwork Recovery.
- install from market "Acer Recovery"
- run it and give it root permission
- choose ClockworkMod Recovery rev1.3.4 by thor2002ro
- click Install Recovery Image
3. Download this. It is a backup made with clockworkmod. It will give you an android with version 1.139.02. In the zip is also a update.zip which will update your 1.139.02 to 1.139.05.
4. unzip it and put it on your external sd card (if you do not have one, find one, you need ~ 500 mb free)
5. put the files directly on sd card (e.g. update.zip goes to root, clockworkmod folder goes to root)
6. After that you have to boot in recovery.
- power device off
- keep VOL- button pressed and press and hold power button. Keep holding both button until you get to the menu.
7. Navigate using volume keys and enter a menu using the power button.
8. Navigate to backup/restore and then full backup and full restore (might be a little different). You choose full restore and navigate to restore a backup made on 25.06.
9. Wait until it is done.
10. Reboot and wait for the tablet to boot.
11. Open Acer Recovery and choose to install Stock USA recovery image. install.
12. Again you have to boot in recovery.
- power device off
- keep VOL- button pressed and press and hold power button. Keep holding both button until you see the update installing (An android robot).
13. After the update installs and the tablet boots check for updates.
This has worked for me. I did try other stuff but with no success.
I hope it was helpful for you and you can fix your device.
What you are most likely running into is ACER has not released an OTA for your region. What people are telling you might not be what you want. For example, if someone in the USA is telling you to flash or update, they are often referring to experiences that relate to the USA. NZ might have a different configuration, digital rights, contracts, language, etc etc that ACER just hasn't upgraded yet. Or might not ever upgrade.
If you are totally stock and have never rooted, then CALL ACER TECH SUPPORT and get the correct answer for you make and model for your country. If not, then following directions here might void your warranty. So, just give them a call and see what they tell you first. Then let us know what your find out.
TD
Of course you should first make sure there IS a higher version in your region. And rooting will void warranty.
Although as I spoke with Acer Support about the tablet mentioned in my post, they told me that 3.0.1 is the newest version, which is not true since I have two other a500 tablets both up to 3.2.
Just shared what did it for me.
Hope you can fix your problem the easy way.
Current for NZ is
3.2.1
Kernel version 2.6.36.3+
Build Acer_A500_7.014.15_Com_gen1
Is your current firmware stable? Is everything working OK?
New Zealand and Australia are typically the first countries to get the updates. But they are rolled out by google due to some number to do with your tablet. I'm in the south island and have had 3.2 for quite a while. When I brought my father an A500, it took about a week before the update was available for it. basically if you have any problems just go to the acer ANZ facebook fanpage, one of their acer people are always very good there with question. firmware is stable, and android 4 is meant to be released to NZ/Aussie shortly.
i forgot to mention before you get the big android updates there is a smaller update, i can't remember the size of it, but your tablet has to take that update before it will take the 3.1 or 3.2 update, cannot remember if you need 3.1 before 3.2
I know for a fact that NZ/AUS are supposed to be at 3.2 atleast, as I've seen some of the store A500's with 3.2 running. Also, Acer states NZ/AUS are supposed to be getting ICS 4.0 by the end of Jan.
I'm hoping this will be very soon. I'm thinking that they might have removed the updates from their servers for 3.1 and 3.2 and 3.2.1 and my tablet will just get a OTA for 4.0.
I'm hoping not to have to root anything, but I suppose that'll depend on my patience by the end of this month. Lol.
I should be able to update manually to 3.2 I know this much, but I can't seem to write to my SD Card which is why the manual updating via boot is not working, because it won't let me write to external_sd.
If someone can at least give me ideas on external_sd and write permissions for it WITHOUT rooting. Would be helpful.
Mean while I shall try and get a hold of support and see what they say.

Lol.

Download the 3.2.x you want on your PC and put the sdcard in your PC, copy the file to the sdcard on your PC. Now take the sdcard out of the PC and put it into your tablet. Works every time.
Lastly, if you're still under warranty, why not just call ACER for help?

The last thing I want to do is give it back to them and wait for about 2 weeks for the retail store to get their asses into gear and send it off, then wait another week for Acer to do fix things, which should just not have happened in the first place.
I've tried the idea you gave me mate. I took out the SD Card, and used an old phone that allowed me to access it as a Mass Storage Device because I didn't have a card reader, and formatted it both to FAT first then FAT32 and still no go. The tablet just cannot seem to be recognizing that it even has an External SD Card in it.
Its looking more and more like I'm going to HAVE to go in and get it sorted somehow. Thanks everyone for your input and help. I've also contacted Acer Support. Lets see what they have to say, which I will post here. I'll also fiercely be practicing my Google-Fu to see what else I can find.

I would suggest that you wait for the ICS to start coming out, I can let you know when I get it.
They may have removed the 3.1 and 3.2 from the OTA update sever to get ready for ICS.
If you don't have ICS in a week after it rolls then I would be taking it back to the retailer and telling them that it does not update, they will send it away to get it loaded etc.

Its kind of the only choice I have while I'm unable to do anything else.
Thanks mate, that'll be good to know. And yeah, I was thinking they removed it from their servers to get it ready, but I'm hoping they don't cut it out and stop it either like they did with Nexus S. I had to manually update that as well, but that worked seemlessly, while I was JUST getting drunk, during a party. You know something is good when you can do that.
I'm dreading letting it go away, but if they can load it up, I technically should be able to getting it loaded somehow as well?
