Band switching ( data connection solely 3G, dual mode for stand by) - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi everybody;
I need an app or a trick which allows me to use dual mode when i'm not using a data connection but at the same time, when i need to use it, it connects solely in 3G mode.
Is it possible? does it exist?
Thank You!

WiFi vs GSM/GPRS/EDGE...

Is this a limitation of the hardware platform, or a limitation of the OS?
Why can't the device automatically choose between whichever data stream is available? If I program in a secure WiFi network, isn't there a way to "force" the device to default to said WiFi network unless it isn't available? Then, simply use the GSM/GPRS/EDGE connection.
Thanx.
ne1?
I have been wondering about this too....
But, I have a question...in my college there is wifi everywhere..I currently don't have a data plan, is it possible to have the phone always use wifi?

Possible auto switching Wlan and 3G??

Hey hello,
On the Nokia E75 it is possible to do the following:
Use 3G all the time, but when there is a known Wlan in the area, shut down 3G and switch to Wifi.
This means, that outside or on the road you use 3G (or GPRS..) and inside you use Wifi.
Is it possible to let the Touch2 do the same thing?

Can you run Wifi and 3G/HSDPA connections simultaneously?

So the if the phone connects over wifi it drops the data connection that might've been present on your phone network connection. Is it possible to configure your phone to maintain both wifi and 3G/HSDPA connections at the same time?
I require this because my operator provided (H3G UK network) Skype application only runs on 3G and I have to keep turning off wifi for it to work.
Funny, I find this feature great!! With my WM phones I never knew if it was using wifi or my data connection....even if you can do this how do you make one app use one connection over the other?

Good q, i'd also like to know if it's possible...

You can try droid wall, and configure it to block wifi for skype, it may solve your issue.

Hmm, doesn't sound like that will work, because the phone has already dropped the phone network data connection as soon as I get back home onto my home wifi network (due to prioritisation?) I want the phone to maintain both so I can receive incoming Skype calls at home with fiddling with my phone. I understand why the phone does it and it is sensible for it to do so in most cases, but just not for my usage requirements!
Is it a software/hardware limitation that wifi and phone network data connections can't be open at the same time?
Install Nimbuzz. It supports Skype without that bulls**t restriction. It doesn't support group chats though.

if WiFi is on, and 3G is on
the phone automatically uses WiFi first

I lose the "H" or "3G" notifier when the phone connects to wifi, that's why it looks like it's purposesly dropping the data connection once it picks up my wifi, I can't see a way to maintain both simultaneously.
I'm using "Skype for 3" provided by my network, it has special integration on the 3 network which allows me unlimited Skype usage (inbound and outbound) without it eating into my data plan. So with this benefit I don't really want to use an alternative app.
I want to keep Skype running all the time so I can receive calls on it, but once I get home, the wifi kills the "H"/"3G" connection, which means my Skype can't receive calls.
the icon isn't there but i think the data (H / 3G) is still running in the background, incase your Wifi fails.
wifi is the... PREFERRED network?
have you tried getting your friend to call you via skype while you're on wifi?

Disabling 3G on HD??

Can anyone tell me how to disable the 3G? It's just strange, normally you can change that under setting - wireless & networks - mobile networks - network mode. However under network mode I only have these 2 options: WCDMA Only and GSM/WCDMAbut this time only WCDMA? I am just trying to save the battery, just like I did with my original DESIRE.
download qucik settings from marketplace, i have it on my home screen allows to toggle from
3g to 2g , also 3g to 2g but with MMS also allows gps/bt/wifi toggle amounst other things
and its free
Thanks for sharing. But what I am referring to is more to the gsm signal only. I have no problem disabling data internet. I know I can do it in the original desire but surprise can't do it in hd.

[Q] how to make sure that i am on wifi or 3g

Bro and sis, is there a way to make sure whether i am connected via wifi or 3g? Cuz my 3g dataplan is not unlimited.
Thanks.
Hold the power button down until the device option screen pops up, the same screen that turns it off. You'll see a Data network mode. Select that so that it shows Data network mode deactivated. Now 3g is off for sure.

you can also use widget or personally go to setting to turn off 3g
but somehow, every time my wifi is on, 3g is automatically off
u wont see the symbol on notification bar anymore
thanks bros, nice method.
I've had issues with wifi randomly dropping. Some times I wont notice and the 3g handles my traffic even though I don't want it to due to only getting the 1gb plan. With fully deactivating the 3g data I know when I drop my wifi and am ensured that I've turned my tab into a wifi only device.

The tab uses wifi first when available, and puts the cellular modem to sleep.
