Great news for those Bell customers who have the following Android devices: Samsung Galaxy Tab, Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire Z and the Motorola ATRIX… you all will be getting an upgrade to OS 2.3 Gingerbread this Summer. However, it seems that the Tab will be receive 2.3 today and the Galaxy S Vibrant will receive 2.3 sometime “Early Summer”, while the Incredible S will be graced with it “Mid Summer” and finally the others are pegged for “Late Summer”. Nice work.

good news for everyone. If Bell gets Gingerbread before AT&T, all the AT&T people could flash Bell's
Sounds good if it goes thru well. I can wait till the end of summer.
Atrix is looking better and better by the day.
Ugh! Late summer? Really? I wanted it already. Late summer could be september for all we know.

Ya unless you live in Sask. 9/21 is last day of summer but FIRST day of winter.....lol
CURSES! you beat me to the post! anyways, hopefully Bell will actually get it out by "late summer" (whenever that is) and hopefully they will unlock our bootloader.
The uk and us versions are deft coming out before that. Im planning on flashing the uk version anyways.
I'd be satisfied with an end of August release. But I'm really hoping the international carriers get a release sooner so we don't have to use 2nd init in it's current, unfortunately buggy fashion to get hackin' at that bootloader!
You know what though...its confirmation...not a rumor or a glimmer of hope....a confirmation that we in fact WILL be receiving a gingerbread update...and a general eta.
So im stoked!!! .....who's gunna be the first to start a pool for when it comes out? Aug, Sept or Oct???
I am throwing my bet in the pool for mid-November. "Q1 2011" for Froyo on Milestone ended up being April-June.

What i want to know is WHY they would withhold it from us. if they have it 100% done then why not release it and make your customers happy? It would make waaaay more sense to release it as soon as it is done then to wait. Its not a good reason to go off and call it a piece of **** and sell it though, because it is a great phone. im sitting on stock with no root and im still satisfied with what it can do.
greatest thing Ive ever done was ship mine in from AT and T a week before Bell got it

I'm going to agree. We'll just hear the same damn thing we've been hearing... an update is coming "Soon". That's all it ever is. T-Mobile told me via Twitter yesterday that they are working on it and want to make it "perfect"...
Man! I hope they are working on something better then "soon".
The dev, community here has fixed all my problems for me except the modem... if you are comfortable flashing roms and mods, it takes the wait and insessant delays edge off. They are so sloooow,... with there flagship device? Come on.

if the rumors of gingerbread being released in october is infact true, then i guess the vibrant can expect gingerbread sometime in march?
Im happy with JI5 for now
But all this delay I'm starting to think we might get surprised with a 2.2 update sooner than thought
But then again this is my first Samsung phone and all the talk about their history....IDK
Negative attitudes don't get you anywhere. Think positive its a good sign that they are a least going to tell us something.

I am having so much fun modifying my rooted phone and 2.1 that I don't even notice how long it's taking to get any OTAs or 2.2 for that matter.
I think having owned a G1 taught me a lot of patience. The Vibrant is a great phone, yes it may have it's bugs but it certainly can be an everyday smartphone even without the updates.
Take your time Samsung/T-mobile, as long as we have devs and hackers that work hard to help out the community I will be patient.
in next two weeks....bla bla bla... they just going to say that they are working on something, and soon "soon" we will see something. After everybody smashing Tmobile and samsung, they had to reponse some how. I guess only time will tell.

Oh, wait, IT'S NOW OCTOBER. I guess what they meant is you could look for it in September, but what they didn't say is you wouldn't find it.
You people aren't going to be happy if they release it and its not ready. I would wait as long as it takes to get it and have no issues or less of them. You know if they release it before its good to go and you have some issues you will come back and complain. I would love to have it now just like everyone.

I just googled "Epic Froyo DL15" and THIS was the third result. It looks like an unfinished FAQ for a DL15 update.

So after more than a week, Samsung still hasn't completed this simple FAQ, no wonder it's taking them so long to get FroYo out.
I don't see why they wouldn't push out the latest version. Average person isn't going to want to flash again a week later for minor fixes.

This is really the only reason I miss the evo...atleast the coorperate devs t htc and sprint rolled out updates...they have gotten 3 updates while we are still stuck on di18
I have to be honest, I'm really reconsidering buy this thing. The evo can be modified in all kinds of ways, and it gets updates from Sprint/HTC in a much more timely fashion.
Samsung and Sprint doesn't seem to give a crap about the Epic for some reason, I'm not sure why since Sammy has sold close to 10 million of these galaxy s phones. I mean if you don't support these devices and provide timely updates, I don't see people being repeat customers of Samsung.
This has been my first non HTC smartphone, and frankly its looking to be my last, its a shame too, the hardware itself is terrific.

It's not that they don't give a crap about it. Froyo was designed on and optimized for a different processor and file system. For whatever reason, Samsung insists on using their own file system, which means they basically have to port Froyo to work with their specs. In addition, a company that only makes phones and pda's like HTC, can concentrate 100% of their resources on those products. While Samsung is making microwaves, TV's, Cameras, and whatever else, so they prioritize a little differently.

There comes a point though when they have to actually release something. Would you still be ok with the wait if they decide to start working on build DL21 and then move on to DL24, etc... and not release a damn thing in the mean while?
This is just freaking ridiculous. We were promised before the end of the year we would have Froyo and it seems that is not going to happen now.
I read a report and folks were giving someone on the forums slack about another article (can't remember the post) about the 2.3 update timings. I just read that it is going to happen shortly (early summer which should mean by end of this month) for Bell Canada so we might be getting it in the US around August since i think it was a month behind for us when 2.2 came out in Canada.
Here is the full article: http://mobilesyrup.com/2011/07/07/a...-incredible-s-desire-z-and-atrix-this-summer/

You are correct. The OP is thinking the Telus Fascinate which is T959D and is not getting an update anytime soon. The Bell Vibrant is I9000M.
Also we were the first US carrier to get a leak of 2.2 and this time around everyone else has a leak but us, and to put the icing on the cake the T-mobile galaxy S 4G has a leak which leads me to believe that there may not ever be a Vibrant ginger release.

Do i need to "unroot" my Vibrant to be able to update via Kies?
I little birdie just flew over and pecked my head and said you are wrong. He also said that a 2.3.3 leak for the Vibrant will happen on the 15th as they are wrapping up the Galaxy S 4G rom and will now work on T-mobile Vibrant ginger rom.

Like I said guys this is from someone on the inside and holds some merit, but as with anything(and you know it if you work in the IT field) dealing with computers/electronics dates are soft and she did specify that.
For those that always want pictures/proof or it didn't happen I don't know what to tell you. Believe me or not, whether the date comes and goes with or without the rom, and even hits one week later, I am simply passing on something that I was told. I asked the question to someone I know and they got me an answer and I know them to be pretty good at getting info.
So here is the salt shaker

Why is that? There's nothing wrong with Honeycomb.

So stay with it, we want ICS and you won't stop us..
vpn
i hope they add ipsec vpn to ice cream sandwich, otherwise i think it is mostly honeycomb for phones.
Google should be releasing the source code for ICS. This means we (most likely) will be getting a Cyanogenmod ROM for the TF!
I am holding out for Strawberry Shortcake.
now is when i really want to root my device, i want ICS but i guess with having a B70 ill need to wait and hope for a official release!
looks like google is delaying ICS launch some http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/07/samsung-and-google-postpone-ice-cream-sandwich-and-galaxy-nexus/

you and me both man. I have a b80 and I check here and rayman's site/twitter almost everyday waiting for an update. I'm dying to root my device so I'll be able to install cm8 (or cm9 if they make HC and ICS versions when both sources come out). Right now I can deal with the device as stock, but I want to root ASAP.

You guys should have gotten the ipad 2, then.
BTW, this just in, the release next week has been delayed.

People's reaction to ICS has opened up my mind about apple users versus google users. I've been asking every iphone and ipad user I see (work, train, train station, shop, wherever) whether they are excited about the iOS 5 release. I've been asking for a week now. Dozens of people. Not a single one said yes. Every one of them said they're fine with the current version.
On the other hand, android (honeycomb users) are threatening to ditch android if they don't get the ICS NOW. In fact, even before honeycomb was released I already saw people wanting ICS.
This tells me we're not such a good bunch of gadget users after all.
Screw you guys. I'm gonna make my way to the apple world to avoid bitter people who are demanding to have the latest and greatest just a couple months after the last latest and greatest update.
