[Q] Galaxy S2 greenish screen in videos - Galaxy S II General

Hi,
I have a little problem with my device, i don't really know if it's a problem or not. On different videos, the black is black, but it has some portions where there are some greenish spots. This is because of the codecs Samsung uses, or is a problem with my phone ? This only happens in dark scenes, overall quality is very impressive and in lighter scenes it works like a charm .

Screen Adjuster

Guyz I bought a galaxy note last week...just out of the box i saw a yellowish tint all over the display basicaly from the bottom left.....
so i got an app screen adjuster
i installed then adjusted the blue at +5 and now 90% of the yellowish tint is gone..
soo i have to ask is it safe to use this app????
heres the link to the app Here!
Sure its safe to use but if your note is flawed from the factory then take it back ??
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium App
I use it to lower the contract to -40 as it fixes some of the black rendering issues. I also set the overall brightness down to 75% as it is just set too bright (I turn it off when outside).
I have never fiddled with the colour as my colour renders perfectly. I agree that if it is not rendering correctly, send it back for a replacement. It will likely only get worse.

interesting how it helps you to solve some black rendering issues, but not at all for me.
Yeah its awesome but lags my ICS ROM down
its awesome app ... removes black blocks completely on videos .... is it factory issue with my note .. as i think it should work correctly be default .... isnt it ? ....
For sure is a very good and safe app but better now that is brand new it s better to take it back....
I have observed the similar thing.
I have now bought 4 Notes for myself and my family members (Yeah I know, 4 people in family with Note ). My personal one manufactured in October and those bought recently (3 of them, all made in January 2012) have different colour reproduction.
The new ones have slightly warmer colours when you look dead on (with slight shift to blue when you look at it from bottom at extreme angles which is to be expected).
But straight on, the new Note has colour reproduction similar to my Galaxy Nexus. ITs slightly warm. Its definitely not the colour calibration as it remains same regardless the ROM I use. Its definitely not like traditional SAMOLED blueish display like my old Note or SGS2 which I had before that.
All 3 which are manufactured in Jan 2012 have same colours. All 3 bought from different stores few days apart. But I dont think its bad thing. It actually little warmer like Nexus and is more closer to real life colours. I know that many people prefer artificial looking, eye popping SAMOLED colours, but I am definitely not complaining.

Black colour blocking is universal as far as I know. All of the Notes I have seen have it with hardware accelerated video playback. Using software decoding using players like MX video player or MoboPlayer or BSPlayer solves the issue for now and there is already work under way to fix this issue. I dont think you need to return your phone for this as new one will most likely have same issue.
What I mentioned was regarding general colour reproduction of the screen. The new Notes have slightly warmer colours everywhere. Be it in home screen, browser, gallery or video.

No, it's not faulty. Color banding or black blocks are just artifacts introduced by developers or the video encoding process for the most part - the issue is generally not apparent on TFT display types since the LCD layer isn't able to block 100% of the light to show you a true 'black' pixel.
Good dithering can hide the problem somewhat, but on OLED displays it's more difficult since they are far better with contrast.
You could look at it one of two ways...
You have a superior display technology that the world just needs to catch up with.
Or you have a worse screen because it doesn't hide what other display types are incapable of rendering.
Take your pick : )

Thats a relief ... i was also thinking the same thing as , other colors looks quite nice on my note ... only issue is the blocky blacks which on less resolution videos are more visible .... however i was able to solve the issue using screen adjuster app by setting contrast to 55% ... at that it displays no blocky blacks at all ... just the screen gets an overlay of grey for pure blacks..... i can live with it ...

Is my low contrast the same issue as your washout?

Purchased a C9O yesterday. Out of the box I immediately noticed the screen's low contrast in comparison to my Galaxy S2. It doesn't produce a deep black and the blue looks kinda purple-ish. Is this the same screen washout problem that's been so often talked about? And is there a fix to this issue (if it's even an issue) or did I get a defect? Or is it simply because I am too accustomed to GS2's overly-saturated colors?

galaxy s2 is very over saturated.
So make a pictures of the screen from a few angles and post them here.
Also this lcd can never be as black as your galaxy s2 display since it's a lcd instead of a amoled.
I can't get an accurate representation of the colors as these shots do look more saturated than viewing them from the actual screen.
Looks fine here, you can try to disable nvidia prism which is always a good thing (more battery comsumption but no buggy washout stuff).
But I tihnk it's just fine since it looks identical to my display, I also got a C90 after exchangeing my version from a older batch(screen lift)
Thanks. I agree those shots do look fine on a PC monitor. I guess the best way is to compare it with a store floor demo unit.
Would the Nvidia Prism fix require rooting of the device?
i think it looks fine when comparing my n7 to my e4gt it makes me realize how oversturated the epic touches display is. My tablet to me looks more correct color wise than my phone

[Q] Screen colors uneven?? Normal?

Hi all,
I know there is alot of discussions surrounding yellow tinting and yellow colors , or uneven screens on S2 , S3.
But I haven't seen much of it talked about for the S4.
My S4 has slightly darker colors on the top of the phone. The difference is quite visible on a white background, and very visible on a grey background.
Here some photos showing the issue:
From the naked eye the differences are not as great as shown on the photos. however it is there. sometimes its darker sometimes its not so much darker. but visible and very evident that the screen colors are not even.
Is there any problem with this? Do I need to take it to Samsung for repair?
When I'm using google for example the top of the screen is like bluish....and the other half of the screen is white.
Because I haven't seen many discuss about this issue, I'm wondering whether its just mine?
You have a defective screen.
Take it back for repair or replacement

screen tab s2 amoled suitable for reading? (low brightness/no flickering)

I am interested in buying a tab s2 8 inch. Screen seems to be very nice from the reviews I've read and I need it specifically for reading at night time (so in the dark).
For this I need to be able to set the brightness very low (I am extremely sensitive to light in the dark) but it should still be readable and not flickering.
Is the s2 amoled screen capable of doing this or should I pick a non-amoled tablet (e.g. Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0)?

In my experience, this tablet is made for exactly what you are proposing. If you set the background as black with the text white, you will have excellent contrast without much light shining into your eyes at all, as only the white pixels will be on. If your reading app doesn't off a black background, you can simply negative the image in accessibility settings. I've never sensed any screen flicker on my uint :victory:
An LCD on the other hand shines lots of light into your eyes even with a black background. This isn't great for your sleep a partner will hate you for lighting up the room. :crying:
Get the S2, you wont be disappointed. :highfive:
Thanks - exactly what I was hoping for.

Screen issues when watching video at low brightness

Hello guys, this problem is more noticeable when watching videos at low brightness (>50%) in a dim environment. Shadow details in dark scenes are completely blown out and take an unnatural oily greenish hue. Like a pastel painting.
If anyone intends to replicate it, first make sure you're in a dark room. Bedtime with minimal ambient lighting should be the perfect situation (if you're the type who's relaxing watching movies on their phone before sleep). Otherwise you won't be able to notice the problem easily. Then, make sure you're watching a dark scene since the problem is only apparent where there is shadow.
A good example is the opening scene in Blade Runner 2049 with K and Morton having a conversation in a dark house.
This issue manifests with all common apps. Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Google Play Movies.
I used to have the exact same problem with my Galaxy S9 when it was just out but Samsung eventually issued a software update after a couple of months that fixed it. So this has to be software related and not an actual problem with the screen itself.
Google should be made aware though.
There is also an XDA topic describing it with photos too so you know what it looks like:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9-plus/help/colour-blending-blacks-problem-t3765385
Is there anyone who's already experiencing it with their Pixel 4? Should be the same with XL.
I checked on those sources and I don't have that issue.
It only shows up at extreme low brightness like < 15%. But every OLED phone I've used suffers from this.
