having to flick between 4 different browsers on my phone as not one of thems really any good....
opera 10: looks nice and sharp, quick but is well and truely let down with the default screen image size and zoom options, no pinch to zoom and vids wont play.....useless
opera 9.7: looks good with nice default screen size. has pinch to zoom but is pretty dreadfull to use, you do the finger motion and you end up nowhere near where you need to be. again, vids wont play.....useless
skyfire: looks ok but its pretty jittery and nowhere near as fast as opera. no pinch to zoom and the zooming options are nothing to write about but at least it plays vids.
ie: hardly ever use this one as its so slow.
appart from browsing i think the phone is pretty sweet, its just a real shame using the internet is (for me) becoming a pain. whats your thoughts guys....?
I think Opera Mobile is amazing. I couldn't fault it in any way. Why does everyone complain about no pinch to zoom when a swift double tap works better.
with Opera 10 you only have to tap once to zoom in!
its so smooth, the scrolling is as smooth as butter and its so fast.
sure not playing flash is a pain, but its not essential, especially if youre complaning that you cant watch youtube on your browser when youve got an app for just that
Opera is gorgeous, fast, so fast... and completely flawless.
I'm using the 9.7 build that comes standard on the T-Mobile USA model. I also tweaked tons of the Opera cache settings, page loading, thumbnail, and zooming functions as well.
I think your alone on this one bud.
opera is badass by its self. opera 10 is freakin sweet.
btw ... why so many complaints about a sweet ass phone?
each to their own bud. its just a useful feature. on opera 10, when i tap to zoom its still sometimes hard to hit links or page numbers as it still too small. altering the zoom is hit an miss as if you make the zoom bigger it ends up too large for the screen. if i had pinch to zoom could make links and what not just a bit bigger.
i dont like the fact i cant play youtube vids on opera either, my phone from 3 years ago could do it........
opera 10 runs very slick but has major flaws, just my opinion.

can you say what you have done tweak wise? i never seem to get a browsing experience to match my mates iphone...which im sure you can understand is annoying
IE seems pretty damn fast to me. I accidentally made it default and was shocked at how usable it was.
Opera 9.7 - not jittery, but i never use the pinch to zoom...ever. but I do use it because it launches and runs more snappily for a quick browse. it's lighter in resources.
Mobile 10 - my default. it takes longer to load than 9.7 and no pinch, but flash plugin works, double tap to zoom with reflow usually works. rendering good. fast, speedy. and page rendering without checkered boxes as in 9.7 or IE. Fab. Not perfect, but pretty damn good.
Never even needed to install skyfire after mobile10.
Why not try iphone instead? Or Android? I hear their browsers are even better
Just remember, technology is always work in progress. No browser, even on the desktop, is perfect. And I'm surprised they ALL work as well as they do on winmo - browsing is better on winmo than iphone and android. That was one reason that swayed me to winmo.
What do you suppose the better alternative is?
The iPhone browser?
I have an iPhone and its browser has nothing on Opera 10...even with pinch to zoom.
At least you have options. Flash isn't even an option on the iPhone!
I guess that I'm in the minority but I like IE best. The zoom on the Opera just isn't as easy to use as IE's slider control but maybe I just havn't used Opera enough. I also have an iPhone 3GS and while I like the browser and touchscreen response better, in every other category the HD2 wins hands down.

are you using the Latest Stock WWE 1.66 ROM
Opera Browsing here is second to none!
Maybe Opera Mini 5 is a good choice for you. Blazing fast, though no flash.
BTW: Opera Mobile 10 does support flash: settings - enable plugins - ready and IE also, to a certain extent, supports flash.

yeah im using the latest rom bud. dont get me wrong, opera 10 is very fast and slick but just seems set up wrong for the screen size.if there was a zoom slider like in ie that would be sound enough. as it is, opera10 seems unfinished. also, not been able to view embedded videos on most sites is just complete madness. I know some people are saying "well hd2 already has a decent youtube app, use that", but what goods that when the video I might wanna watch is embedded in a page that wont allow me to view it....?. it all just seems like such a wasted opportunity on such a quality device. its the phones biggest downfall which is mad given this screen was made for viewing the internet on.......
IE is the only one (other than skyfire but that looks rubbish) that plays flash videos on site like bbc news, so I'm always switching between using Opera 10 for speed and IE for video.
Count yourself lucky that you can install whatever browser you want on WM, Apple still hasnt approved Opera mini on the ****phone

yeah its pretty good that you can install other browsers, its just a pity the fastest and best looking one doesn't function that well. hey, these are just my opinions guys and im happy your happy with it lol.......
Anyone that wants a quick browser should check out the new Opera Mobile.
It runs absolutely fantastic on the Epic, it now supports flash and a lot more HTML5 than the previous version.

Opera may not have better scores in all tests, but it "feels" much smoother with less lag (especially when scrolling/zooming).
One of the major enhancements with Opera compared to other browsers (other than Firefox) is how it displays images.. It shows animations in gifs and will show the full size image for nearly any size image with no compression (i tried 12mp photos with no problems) all other browsers I tried other than Firefox (which was slow in comparison) would show a low res preview even if you zoom in.
It is about time someone released a proper browser for Android that feels nice and smooth while scrolling on nearly any site, and that supports most of the web standards.
Finally, thanks for the heads up im downloading it now.
I can say, this thing feels good! Like the iPhone browser, the graphics is very GPU accelerated! hehe i know that phrase been used a lot lately, but now we have it!

Yep, it sure does feel that way.. Not sure if it actually is GPU accelerated though.
Does this new Opera support Flash Player? I tried watching shows online and they wouldn't load with Opera 10.

Yes, as I mentioned in the original post.
However, text and interacting with Flash seems to be a bit broken.

Sorry, I'm tired, didn't notice it.
I'll give it a go because Opera was by far the fastest mobile browser when I had it. Since it supports flash, no reason to say no now.
I still love the look and feel of Miren Browser, but I'll give this one a shot, thanks.
Opera Mobile served me very well on Windows Mobile... but that interface is just huge, now. I'm not usually the minimalistic type, but too much, Opera, too much!
My only complaint with Opera Mobile was that you couldn't share pages
Epic 4G on Tapatalk
Been relying on the DOLPHIN HD browser. I played with the beta of this a few months ago, seemed heavier... will try it again. Thanks for the benchmark stats!!
Epic | CyanogenMod 7 Alpha 1
thanks for the numbers.
Opera is indeed smooth, but it still couldn't load some of my favorite websites, like huffingtonpost completely. Dolphin mini seems to have a higher rate of compatibility, although it scrolls slower.

Yeah that is strange. It never seems to finish loading all the images.
Dang its fast! The only thing that bothers me is it continues to load even after the page clearly is showing everything. But that doesn't slow it down! I'm having way better results than Dolphin HD!
Edit: the loading annoyance only happens the first time you view a site

How does it compare to skyfire? I've been using that browser for a while and love it. I didn't see it.mentioned in the tests. Anyway op you can test this browser? Thank you.

I'm on wi-fi at home, and Opera is much slower than any of my other browsers (firefox, dolphin, and stock). And I'm loading a generic web page, nothing fancy. www.drudgereport.com - maybe it performs better than the others on 3g?
So far Dolphin has been my favorite browser, but I have issues with it not text wrapping when I zoom in. Opera does have very good zoom. Not to mention perfect options in the settings menu.
Thanks for the heads up on this browser, I will give it a legit shot. I have been looking for a single winning browser for me so I can clear all the others off my phone.

Well, I was going to give it a try, but this does not sound like much fun. LOL!
Just wanted to ask the people:
What is your browser of choice and why?
Stock Honeycomb - Fast, stable, good for most websites, allows setting UA.
Stock ICS - Fast, stable, great for most websites. For better functionality, get ICS Browser+ addon (UA and gestures)
Opera Mobile - Not too bad. Best choice for file sharing sites which require captcha's to download.
Dolphin HD - Great for phones, but the UI doesn't really work well for tablets
Dolphin for Tablets Beta - Works pretty good, but lacks in features. Also, it hasn't been updated since the initial release.
Firefox - Unique UI, but not in a good way (tabs should be on the top, not side). Also missing Flash support
Chrome beta - Great so far, but still lacking some features. Has potential to become the best after some updates. No Flash support, but HTML5 is superb!
I've tried several other browsers, but ditched them right away because they either had a terrible UI, they were slow, unstable, or didn't allow setting UA string. Of course, when it comes right down to it, just try every browser you can find and decide which works best for you! Everyone will have their own opinion, and these are just my own. Good luck
Stock browser cuz it has Quick Controls.
I will use Firefox when i will be able to sync it with my BB Firefox. Mozilla has already added sync feature to the mobile version but I failed to get it working.
xScope - just suits my needs better than the rest
Firefox was my main browser but seems to be getting 'clunky' and slow. Still use it for 1 site though as is the only browser that will load said site (Adblocker / hosts issue)
I run Maxthon. For some reason it seems to load everything just a little better for me. Its not perfect, but none of the browsers are. I watch lots of flash content on my tablet and it seems to work the best for me.
Opera Mobile because its fast, stable, has speed dials, and because I can sync my Phone and Tab browser. I like to use a desktop UA when I'm on my tab and I've found that Opera Mobile is the fastest for this.
But make sure you turn the "Opera Turbo" feature off.
Win 7 : Chrome
Kubuntu (Linux) : Chrome
Acer Iconia A500 : Dolphin HD for Tablets
I havent tried Chrome beta on Android ,but I will
love Dolphin HD, would love opera, love the style but does not render CSS on websites that well, fixed divs do not display correctly for example., also love that maxthon, love the themes, just dolphin is better quality. Want to try chrome when we get ICS.
I have tried them all and by top 5 is the following:
1- Next browser - fast loading pages, reliable and smooth, lacking some sync
2- Chome - fast loading pages, reliable, amazing sync, but sometimes sluggish
3- Dolphin browser - slow loading pages, reliable, but sometimes sluggish
4- Opera - slow loading pages, reliable, but sometimes sluggish
5- UC browser - fast loading pages, unreliable and sometimes sluggish
What about your experience?

I also prefer Next browser and think it is the best so far. UC Browser seemed very fast though. Some sites had trouble and the lack of google sync seemed to suck.
What lack of sync do you experience with next browser? With the newest version it syncs all my bookmarks and folders from PC chrome wich is great.
hello you should try Naked Browser Pro its still the fastest browser with full flash support i had never a crash. it just looks simple but has alot of configs and it shows pages in real tablet ui and not in phone ui like the others. Its worth a try. There is no other browser with such a flash support and it works very good with adaway.
I just can't tear myself away from Firefox on the desktop (far and away the best there, IMO), so as much as it feels a bit sluggish sometimes on Android, I still stick with it on my phone and tablet because it syncs nicely.
My experience so far :
Chrome - Would be nice for bookmark sync (I use it on my PC) but no flash support - so I tried...
AOSP : basic but fast - but Flash support seems to be getting troublesome, causing broswer FCs, so I tried...
FireFox : Looks good, can use Flash - but I had problems with :
slow-rendering of pages (text would be blurred for a while as you scroll)
inputting text in text boxes - the number of timmes I was prodding the screen trying to get a text input cursor...ARGHH!
"selection" buttons not working on many websites (would work fine with AOSP / OPERA)
Shame, I liked it for a while. And finally...
OPERA : Quite liking it seems fast, most things work, but no Flash ...so I may try....???? Naked Browser ???
if you want opera im using opera mobile 12.02 wich still has flash support and real tablet ui but its not the fastest but its ok for me. il use it for daly browsing and for flash videos i use naked browser its the best for flash.
I've always had very good luck with Dolphin. Maybe not the fastest, but fast enough for me and reliable. I value stable over quick. Interface is minimal and clean. Gestures rock. Flash works. Love it.
I do, however, use Firefox for work. I keep all my work bookmarks sync'd up.
I was a chrome/dolphin user before but after seeing this thread a few days ago and trying out next browser, it's officially become my default.
chrome beta is the best 100% full desktop web site still few bug but I have been using this for a long time.... but no flash support
There is only 1 browser that has real desktop rendering its called opera classic or an old version of opera mobile.
i tried every browser and none of them uses real desktop website even if switched on not even chrome.
you should remember that the screen resolution is 1920 x 1080 and websites shouldn`t look like balloons.
here is a screen of real desktop ui from opera
Does Opera classic have flash support? Flash is as much as importance to me as with Stable rather the browser being quick

The best browser I had so far is Naked Browser / Naked Browser Pro.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fevdev.nakedbrowser&hl=de
Its EXTREMELY lightweight, fast and stable. It supports mobile and desktop mode. It does what its supposed to.
The app icon is ugly, ui is minimalistic and handling is straight and smooth. Surely it does flash. Very few Permissions.
I use(d) it on HTC Sensation XE, Sony Xperia Z an Tablet Z.
My browser search has come to an end.
The Pro version is worth every cent. Just try the free app first.
Tried probably every single browser available but finally settled on this one as the best. Boat Browser Tablet. I think its new - try it!!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.boatbrowser.tablet
I used to use Dolphin, but on later versions and on some of my favorite sites, it got soooo slow. Eventually I settled on Next browser, which does most of what I need except Flash.
I used CHrome a bit too, but it also had some smaller performance issues, but is my second browser on the tablet.

Hi,
As the normal chrome really started to lag due to ads mostly, I switched to UC browser, which has been awesome. Tho I'm stilll used to Chrome and for anyone else wanting to have smooth chrome:
Check this out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-nochromo-wild-browser-appears-t3130776
Install Arm-32 version.
If you sign-in, it'll sync etc.
Have fun
Uc Browser have faster scrolling and fast pinch to zoom etc, but it has slow rendering, chrome has faster rendering.
What UC does it fools you a little, it takes longer time to load the page which give it more time to load into memory..
Once the page is finally loaded it will appear the browser is faster because of superior scrolling and pinch to zoom which is very smooth..
Compare side to side.. do not confuse faster scrolling with faster rendering.. to me the rendering is more important especially noticable on heavy sites like androidauthority
Otherwise I agree... the lack of ad blocking is really..bad in chrome.. luckily chromium is now totally open source 100% which means it easy for other browser to use the code.. Opera did recently jump on the train... Hopefully we will see more chromium based browser but with ad blocking...
Especially on phones add blocking does slow down the phone a lot..
Chrome does atleast block pop up..that is atleast something..
Try "Adblock Browser for Android"
This adblocker browser based on Firefox, it is actually very fast, and faster scrolling and pinch to zoom..
Block ads so it makes pages less heavy it is especially good for us M7 users who have only 2 gb ram..
This browser was released just a couple of days ago..
