Im getting an error message when trying to flash Virtuous Stock Kernel v4. Im on CWM v3.0.2.4, Virtuous Unity Rom 1.27. When trying to flash, i get an error "Amend scripting is no longer supported. It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the CWM 3.0 Gingerbread. Please switch to edify scripting." I've been flashing kernels for a while now, but this is the first time ive ran into this problem. Any help?

The kernel was made for an older version of clockwork mod, I don't think it is compatible with unity. A good kernel is the unity v3 or one of the new kernels in evil d thread on unity.

Hello XDA,
I have been searching around but can't find anything relative to my experiences.
I have tried flashing many different kernels on top of my rooted stock 2.2 and I always end up with a boot loop of the HTC logo.
I was wondering if there is a way to flash a different kernel and have it function properly. I want to be able to overclock and install a patch from the call recording app in the DEV section. A link to reading material would suffice or any help would be appreciated.

Thanks again

You could try using a Virtuous kernel, I'm not sure if they will work on stock though.
Here's a link to some kernels.
You should really install a custom rom though if you want performance.

Thanks for the reponse. I was using CM7 and loved it, but I really need my call recording to work and it was very intermittent with CM7.
I got it working properly on stock now by installing baconbits 0.3 then flashing the kernel and for some reason it worked.
If you have any suggestions as to a "stockish" type rom, I'm open to it.

Virtuous Sense is based off the official updates from HTC, only optimized and touched up a bit.

Hi
I have a MyTouch 3G 32B, with 2.22.28.25 Radio.
I would +1 (My joke, all rights reserved ) to get the newest ginger yoshi, and I know how to get it, but in yohshua's folder on mediafire there are 2 files of ginger yoshi 1.4, one is regular and the other one is fix. Which one should I flash? Both? And what about the "update build prop" which also appears there?
Another question: Is there a newer and better kernel than ezBiffTestKernel20110222-2708_S for MyTouch 3G 32B 2.22.28.25? (I like ezterry's kernel, it is the best one I've ever used, but I want upgrades!)
Thanks!!
Flash 1.4 and if there are issues flash the fix
Ezterry has new 2.6.36.4 kernels. Check the ezgingerbread thread
Hello
Thank you tvall for helping me. I appreciate your help!
I wiped everything, and then I flashed the kernel and the rom, and I discovered that all my apps from the time I used Ginger yoshi 1.2 are still there, even though I have restored my MyTouch to stock rom after using 1.2. Maybe the reason is that the 1.4 rom was installed on ext partiton, just like the 1.2. Moreover, I discovered that the kernel version which can be found in "about phone" is the kernel of yoshi team, so the 1.4 zip file has this kernel in it and it just replaced the new ezterry's kernel.
Is it a good idea to flash the new ezterry's kernel instead? Should I wipe before flashing?
Thank you very much!

Um... huh? Nothing is installed on the ext partition except apps if the rom suports it.
I personally use ezterrys kernel (and his ezgb rom). If you want to use the kernel just flash it on to of the rom. No wiping required
Oh sorry I'm kind of noob so do not expect nothing from me at this time...
Thanks for your guidance! Now I have the best kernel and the best rom (in my opinion)
I am currently running the frozenROM v 1.2 and I am running the genocide kernal. I want to try the twilight kernal and was wondering what I would need to do to switch.

Just download the zip and flash in CWM, reboot, enjoy!
So I just need to flash the new kernel and that is it? I don't need to reflash the ROM? Is it really that simple?
Yes that simple...just download to sd card and flash.
Wow. I would have to do a lot more to be able to change the kernel. The teams on this site are incredible.

a simple search and you would find your answer....
but i'll help anyway.
TO INSTALL ANY CUSTOM ROMS, YOU MUST HAVE S-OFF AND CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY INSTALLED.
the best Sense 3.0 rom out there for the MT4G is Virtuous Unity. it is a beast rom, a must try.
website: http://www.virtuousrom.com/
thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1143177
to download:
1) download rom from the VU website.
2) VERIFY THE MD5SUM (done using the free mand5 app from market)
3) put the .zip file into SDcard.
to flash this rom:
1) reboot to clockworkmod recovery BE SURE FASTBOOT IS OFF
2) once in clockworkmod recovery, DO A NANDROID BACKUP IMPORTANT
3) do a FULL WIPE.
full wipe is:
Code:
wipe data
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache (under advanced menu)
4) after you have full wiped, flash the rom, and wait for it to finish
5) reboot NOTE: THE FIRST BOOT WILL TAKE LONGER THAN USUAL, PLEASE BE PATIENT.
6) *hit the thanks button*
7) enjoy Virtuous Unity
PLEASE USE THE SEARCH BUTTON NEXT TIME.

nope, the kernel that comes with the ROM is pretty sweet
but, if you other kernels.. here are two of the best kernels for sense roms:
UNITY V9 KERNEL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1121939
Demonspeed kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1214489
radio, i would suggest the panache radio, works best for my phone, but you should try all of them. each phone is different.

no problem, just remember to use the search button next time
thanks again, i already booted up, thanks a lot, and yes i will

no problem bro. enjoy Virtuous Unity!
Virtuos Unity is the best sense rom to me hands down. Sense 3.0 is amazing. Hope everything is going well or has gone well with your process.
I prefer using TDJ's newest sense Rom that is sense 3.5. Im using it now and I love it. It's fast and stable and has good battery life and a lot of tweaks.

I basically put in the title EH03 due to the vast majority of people using EH03 Roms now.
I am not responsible for anything you do to your phone. standard disclamer but i feel its important to add to this just incase people want to come at me saying something i said to do messed up their phone or whatever.
Basically, I'm writing this for my own use and for anyone who needs information regarding kernel flashing or what kernels are for what rom. There are two types of Roms, Touchwiz (TW) and MTD. For TW there is 3 kernels available. And 2 for MTD. The links will be at the bottom of the post, I will go into as much detail as i can without kanging the OP of the kernels. They all have great write-ups on OC/UV and all that fancy stuff. Basically I use Voltage Control (get from the market) and set it to 200-1200, set as boot and not one hot boot or any other issues, but all fassy's are different, what works for me may not work for you, so do not think that im telling you what is standard for every phone, cause theyre isnt a real answer to that.
Note: All the kernels that I will be referring to allow the installation of Custom Boot Animations via CWM. There is a great list of a bunch of them I will post link to it as well.
TW:
1) KGB (updated 1/16/12) (formally known as TKS and TKSGB) this imo, is the one i use with my current rom/kernel combo. This one comes with an app packaged in the kernel install. for more information on the app features, see the op at the bottom of the post.
2) GeeWiz. (updated 2/3/12) This one comes with a Rom/Kernel/Recovery Package. As of the new update, he separated the kernel from the rom so you can use just the kernel. This one is more of a stock kernel with some extra features. See link for the complete list of features.
3) LeanKernel (updated 1/1/12) (Rootzwiki) This was actually one of the first kernels I used. It is already OC'd to 1200 so no need to use the Voltage Control App with this kernel. Not too much more to say about this one because I didnt use it too long. Make sure you check your rom to ensure you are choosing the correct verison of the kernel. There is EH and EI. EH03 is the Verizon Fascinate GB. EI120 I believe is the Mesmorize GB (correct me if I'm wrong?) but some people have ported E120 Roms to the Fascinate, thus the need for that kernel version.
4) Stock Kernel Stock is stock, you cant do any customizing to it, no OC/UV or boot animations. It depends on what version of cwm you are using to determine which version of the kernel you need to flash in CWM : 2.+ cwm = amend 3.+ cwm = edify
**however the red recovery which is 2.5.1 takes edify.
MTD:
MTD is basically for CM7/CM9(when it gets ported to us) Team Hacksung's ICS port and MIUI. Im not going to go into detail for any of this because i never used them long enough to grasp anything about them.
1) Glitch v13.1 (updated 12/25/11) This is imo the most common MTD kernel used by the community. Features and OC/UV values can be found in the OP. They also have a test version out for ICS if you are using that Rom. Make sure when you go to this OP you choose the Fascinate version of the kernel.
2) JT's 3 button fix Kernel (JT's Twitter) This is another MTD kernel. Not much to say about this one. Just that it only works for MTD based Roms.
I put a link to Droidstyle's Guide for Rom Flashing if you guys haven't already flashed a custom rom.
I hope this gave you guys some insight.

If you do not have a custom rom you will not be able to install a custom kernel, Refer to droidstyle's guide if you have not already installed a rom. Link is in OP
Download kernel and place it on the root of your sd card (not really necessary but imo its easier to find)Installing kernel
boot phone into CWM Recovery (volume up + down + power) If you are already on a custom rom do not do this, just longpress the power button and choose reboot into recovery.
Wipe Cache and Davlik (see link in OP on Davlik cache if you do not know what this is used for)
Scroll to Install Zip from SD card. Press power buttom to select menu.
Scroll to Choose Zip from SD Card. Press Power Again.
Scroll down to your downloaded Kernel file using volume down key
Press power button on the file.
Scroll down to Yes with Volume down key.
Press power.
Allow to install.
Reboot phone.

Whoa, what? This is the first I've heard this. I've read through Droidstyle's guide, and didn't see this specifically mentioned. Or in any of the other threads I'd read, actually (there's so many).
Through all the posts I see on kernels, how kernels like KGB work with Gingerbread and EH03 based ROMs, which lead me to believe just the kernel can be customized with a stock ROM... I've never seen one until now that said you must have a custom ROM first.
So they mean, a Gingerbread/EH03 based *custom* ROM when they say that.
This would explain why I borked my phone trying to put KGB on it.
I wish I had seen this thread earlier, that would've save me a lot of headache.
It all makes sense now.
