3G Router App - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Hi,
I was just wondering if there was an app which could make my 3g connection available to other devices? So my phone would effectively become a router, but broadcast my 3g signall, not wifi.
Much appreciated,
Oscar

No.

Technically, no. But I assume you can use DFrouter to tether connection to your PC via USB. Then share that connection from your pc through WiFi .. I haven't tried this, it's just a theory.

Is it a matter of nobody has made such an app yet or such an app isn't possible?

You mean you want to reinforce your 3G signal to other mobile devices?
If that's the case , then no. and such an app is not even possible.
But in case you want to share a "3G connection" (a.k.a internet), then such an app is not available yet, it is possible though.

I remember when I was using Windows Mobile 6.5 I could share my 3g connection to my laptop to get internet on the go anywhere.
Would this be possible?

^ Yes, that's possible, but only via USB tethering. Use DFRouter.

ok in WM you can tell the phone to use the computers data connection rather than 3G, ie using your desktop computer and home LAN and it'll update the weather on the handset with out the data charges.
Can the hero do this? Does the question even make sense?
Why not just use wifi?

Because I'm guessing that wifi isn't always available. For example, when I'm at work it would be good to use the PC's internet connection to download app updates rather than relying on the ropey 3G connection - WinMob has been able to do this from the beginning IIRC.
Sorry I was thinking the desktop would be using wifi, presumably you mean using the data cable to connect?

Connecting My Phone To The Internet via Computer

Hello,
I am using an X10i. I've been wondering, are there any ways i can connect my phone to the internet using my computer's modem?
I am not trying to connect my computer to the internet by using my phone as a modem. Do not teach me how to do it. My question and that question are two different questions.
Thanks.
If u have a mac u can use its wirless as a hotspot if u connect it with internet cable. I do that for my phone. Hope this helps
Cheers

yeah ,turn your pc into a wifi hotspot..use softwares like virtual wifi router for windows 7
Note:it will work only if u use a cable to connect ur pc and have a jobless wifi in your pc..
you can also connect using bluetooth,i tried once but failed ,didnt tried much,it wasnt worth that much effort!!
pls dont be naive... not every wifi card supports wifi hotspot even with special applications and tools, and the native windows 7 could make only ad-hoc whis is not supported by android 2.1 or 2.2 as I know...I've read many forums and finaly bought wifi router and what I can say its that its really worth to have it...
yeah wifi card also imp..but most modern laptops and PC are quipped with such wifi cards
I can always use my Vaio for wifi hotspots with my X10..never faced any problems!!
It's not possible through USB. It possible with the stock function of win7 or software for your pc. (Only if you got wireless wifi card in it ofcourse)

If this is helpful please click the Thank you button. Thanks good luck
I wonder why there isn't still an app which lets you use your pcs internet through bluetooth?

I'm using Windows 7 native wifi sharing right now, it broadcasts as a regular wifi network with WPA-2. I use it for phones, consoles, etc

Because it will eat batter, no far distance supported and your internet will be ssssssssssssssssssssuper slow.
^^^This is true. At 2.1Mb/sec of throughput, the Bluetooth will be the slow cog in that wheel of connection.

AGAIN!!! Not every wifi card support it!!! I ve tried ale possibilities (ad hoc, bridge) without succeed...with ipod touch 2G, samsungs i8510, i8910 everything worked, so the problem is only with X10 and android!!! You could make wifi hotspot only with newer or supported cars (my NTB is 3 years old and has unsupported intel wifi card) so this is the deal...

It is possible on an HTC phone, so I'm a bit surprised that there isn't an app to allow us to do this.

I wasn't arguing that all cards support it, I was just saying that when it IS compatible with your card, it isn't adhoc.
Try using Connectify on your computer. It is free. If it manages to create the hotspot on your wireless card, your mobile will be able to use the new hotspot connection created. It has worked for at least 3 of my friends and it enables me to share connections on my laptop no matter where I am.

usb tethering rocks

something my last desire never had and something i didn't even know the ns had. after completely screwing up the build system on ubuntu here, it was something i desperately needed. my wifi drivers are borked, so i can't access wifi and was considering a complete reformat, until i noticed the menu option...
thank you ns!
Yeah pretty sweet, i use the portable hto spot option quite a bit , very nifty indeed
btw: is there something like tho opposite of that? sharing a wired pc internet connection with the ns via usb.
Yes. You connect the USB to your nexus s. Then you don't turn on the USB storage. Go to settings wireless options and click on tether.

uhm no - that's regular tethering, isn't it? I meant the other way around. The pc is plugged in to wired internet. And I want to use that for surfing on the phone without having wifi or mobile data activated

Hmm maybe a dev will get on top of this
Oh ic. Sorry. I read that wrong. I don't think There is a simple way to do it. I remember there's a program that lets you turn your laptop into a wireless router. You plug in the Ethernet to your laptop and use the program to transmit the radio like a router. You can probably then use the phone's wifi to connect to that. Ive never tried it but theoretically it should work. Good luck

ehmm...
usb tethering is not something like
" i connect my laptop with the usb port of my NS that(my phone) has internet access over the mobile network and i can use that on my laptop either"??
i mean wi-fi tethering is "sharing" phone's internet connection with other phones/wi-fi enabled devices to access the internet via wireless connection...
so usb tethering should be the same but with cable obviously..
or am i getting something wrong here?

no. that's a hotspot. meaning devices connect to your ns like a router. you can even set a password and session id for your phone

Use Android device as wi-fi hotspot to share PC internet connection.

Hi I have a PC connect via ethernet to the internet, I would like to connect my phone to the computer so I can broadcast my computers internet connection to my iPad for example. Don't want to use mobile data tethering thanks. I can use either a HTC Hero or Samsung GS2. Is this possible at all? any apps that will let me do this?
I'm not sure if it forces mobile data when hotspot is enabled.
If not, I'd connect the phone to the PC using internet pass through with mobile data disabled and hot spot enabled. I'm unsure if it will use your PC's internet when broadcasting though

Like a PCI card or it's built into all laptops built in the last ten years.
If I had a wireless card..I wouldnt even bother about getting a phone with "Internet Pass Through"
What I am asking is "A Desktop without a wifi card but has a wired internet connection needs to provide internet to a laptop"
What are we having with us? - A Phone with "Internet Pass Through" enabled
A Desktop (With no WIFI card)
A Laptop (With a WIFI card ofcourse)

Laptop would work. It has built-in Wi-Fi and probably a 10/100[/1000] ethernet port.

You still don't understand mate...
What I meant to say is
PC is WIRED with broadband connection...It is passed to the phone using Internet Pass Through...
Now THE GOLDEN QUESTION IS HOW TO BROADCAST THIS INTERNET(that is present in the phone through IPT) USING ANY HOTSPOT APP!
?

follow this reverse tethering guide (i've tested this one and it's working):

and when it's done... try and activate the wifi hotpot feature of your android phone.

Oh gotcha. Sounds like you got an answer above but if that doesn't work, hook your phone up to the laptop and use an app like Connectify on that laptop. Sorry I didn't understand.

Reverse Tether + Re Tether = How do I do it?

Basically I want to share my PC's internet to my Android phone via USB and then share the Android's internet to other WiFi enbled appliances via Android's WiFi as a hotspot.
PC Internet >>>--[USB]---> Android phone >>>--[WiFi Hotspot]--> WiFi clients
I progressed upto Reverse WiFi Tether where I can share my PC internet on my Android phone using USB connection but then enabling the WiFi hotspot on the Android phone doesn't share this internet to other WiFi clients (although the hotspot works and client's can connect, but no internet access/data transfer).
For those wondering why would I dig a pond to fill it;
a. I don't have WiFi (trans)receiver on my PC;
b. My Android phone doesn't have a RJ45 port;
For those even wondering: I don't want to buy a WiFi (trans)receiver for my PC either.

I'm not sure how to go about doing that, it might be cheaper just to go buy a cheap wireless router.
Any idea how to do the opposite? I want to use my phone to connect to a wireless network and send the network connection back to my computer that doesn't have WI-fi.
It might just be cheaper to buy a wifi card for your computer.

On a train for another hour at least. I will reply after I get to the office. Pretty sure Cisco/Linksys makes a box that gives you wifi access via RJ45. Have one and I know it works. Just not sure of vendor and model.
