[Q]Stock Gallery app questions - Eee Pad Transformer General

Hi,
I've wondering few things about the stock Gallery app:
1) I've tried browsing pix from SD /mSD , but I had to open it, close it, open next etc etc. Is there a way to have a decent browsing from it ? i.e. be able to slide between pix (besides copying the pix in the picture folder)
2) is it possible to stream via DLNA the pix ? Is the DLNA pkg from ASUS needed is that case ?
Thanks

Try to use myNET app and share your content anywhere in DLNA network in your home
P.S I have NMT POPCORN A-110 and see everything in my Transformer

1.) I have all my pics on the microSd. Gallery has no issue with seeing them. It also sees all my videos too. Then I can see them side-by-side and slide thru one-by-one.
Make sure you don't have a ".nomedia" file in those folders (use that to hide your "private" stuffs). May need to delete Gallery's cache if having problem.
2.) answered already.

Well, I'm pretty sure there was no ".nomedia" file on the cards. I just couldn't "swipe" between each pic :/
Also, how can I wipe the gallery cache ?

To wipe cache, goto Settings ----> Application ----> All ---> Gallery ---> ....

Htc Album with folder selector/folder ignore?

Hi everyone,
My name is Carlos and i'm from Barcelona, and this is my first post here.
I have a HTC Diamond, and i would like to know if there is a way to ignore folders into the HTC Album, because i'm very tired of browsing on dumb folders when i want to see my real photos.
I've read in other threads about putting folders the "Ignore" entry in the registry, but it seems it doesn't works... or maybe i do not know how to do it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=404948
Is there a way to get rid of these folders that i do not want to see? Is there a new version of the HTC album with some kind of folder selector? Or any other third part software to do this?
I'm really desperate on this, because i love the HTC Album, but is really annoying to browse so long to find my photos amongst that crap...
Many thanks!
you can always select the folder you want to browse by clicking "album" (left softkey in htc album) and then select the good folder
Set the "hidden" file attribute on all jpegs in folders you want to ignore.
does the photo viewer pick every single jpeg on the phone by default or does it only show pictures from certain folders - i.e my pictures folder (wether internal storage or located elsewhere).
I got a load of photographs I dont want anyone to see (wink wink nudge nudge) just by picking up my phone and selecting photos.
Ive got to many to mark each one as hidden.
I remember I managed it to work before last hard reset, but now I forget how I did that... I'll look into it and let you guys know if if find anything out
That's just the problem, the album picks EVERY single jpg in the phone, and there's no option to avoid it.
Now I have about 200 folders when i click on Album list, so the album is not useful anymore, i do no not want to waste 3 minutes to browse down in the album list to find that pictures that i'm loking for...
The "hidden" option it doesn't works... too much folders to hide anyway...
The hidden option works absolutely fine on my Diamond. It's the files that have to be hidden not the folders.
if the photos are in internal storage, connect the Diamond to a pc as a USB drive and do a search for all jpeg files from the pc . Select all the search results (or just the ones that need hiding) and right-click to adjust all the properties at the same time.

WOOOOOW !!
Davey101, that was a pretty brilliant idea!!
I thought I should hide folders, not individual files. I follow your instructions to hide all the undesired jpg files. I've seen other folders in the Album with bmp, png ad gif files, and they were also hidden.
Maybe is not the best way to definitely solve this matter, but it seems there is no other one for the moment, and the result is that now i've just have what i want in the Album list. Cool
Many thanks for your help!
Folder Seleting
Also,Dont know if you already know but every photo album folder listed from the album button has the setting to select it has your favourite.Your favourite album will then be accessed from the "photos and videos link from tf3d.Saves searching through lots of folders!

Hide media from media scanner

Hi all,
is there a way to hide certain media (in this case: videos) from the media scanner so they do not show up in the media list?
I do not want my wife to know what kind of p.0n I'm wathing on my phone
To be precise: Nothin' illegal, just the usual stuff, but she's almost fundamentally catholic
Just make a file called ".nomedia" and put it in that folder
From my Galaxy S loonie-phone
I would be quite interested in this too..
And how do I re-run the media scan?

Or connect USB and mount the drives, then dissconnect, scanner will run automatically
reboot phone, kill two birds with one stone, mostly reply in case this helps a future viewer.
Put said videos in a folder starting with . for example...
/sdcard/media/.secret/stuff/
The content in .secret will not be visible in any normal file explorer or file chooser, appear in galleries or media scanners. You will have to use a file explorer that has a "show hidden files" option to see these.
Optionally you may use .nomedia to hide these in a general sense. However not all third party software will honour these tags.

LOL I like that you don't want her to know what kind of "p.0n" you are watching... presumably that means there are some kinds she would approve of, but they aren't the kind you have on your phone

LOL, ack! She's into the "normal" stuff that we watch together, but I also like... well, that doesn't belong here, but anyway I'd like to explicitly state it's nothing illegal...
You could also use "Vaulty Free" app that moves selected images and videos into a virtual vault which then requires a password to open and view. This also ensures that they do not show up in gallery and video player.
Hope this helps.
Look at my signature.
Put all your secret files in /sdcard/.secret/Secret Stuff.jpg
Then use my app to start the media scanner when you need to scan.
Look at the link in my signature.
so how would this work if you wanted to hide media in game directories? its quite irritating to have the media player list the thousand small wav and mp3 files that are part of games i have on my SD, and renaming the dir to one with a dot in the front will break the path to it.
any suggestions?

Agreed....
I have several .nomedia files in different folder Apps that contain graphics.
Stops them showing up in the Gallery App.
Using a .nomedia file works fine for video game folders but if you add one to a music folder to hide the album art thumbnails from the gallery then this also hides the music files from the music player !

I think you can get around this by embedding the folder art into the music files themselves - I had to do this to my entire collection as my car player would only see them in the MP3s and not as separate files

That's exactly what I do. Mp3tag is a good, free program for doing this.

Try changing the album image's name to albumart.jpg (or watherver file type it is). It is no loger shown in the gallery. Only problem is you can only have 1 image per folder. I have not tried with variantas such as albumart_1 and so on, but it may work...
Thanks, .nomedia worked fine for me, but I think there really should be an option in the OS to either leave the scanner on auto (so it could scan all the phone's storage), or to manually select the folders that contain my media files.

EDIT: I opened-up a ticket here (I took the liberty to include some other ideas I found in this thread).

How do I prevent certain folders from showing in gallery?

How do I prevent certain folders from showing in gallery and music app?
I also have this problem. The images of music albums appear in the gallery =/!
Here you go
http://tinyurl.com/3aczmgw
Using a file manager program, rename the folder that you do not want displayed and put a "." preceding the name of the folder.
For example:
rename:
"Folder that should be hidden"
to
".Folder that should be hidden"
made a text file and named it no.media and placed it in a directory that contains album art . I wen to the gallery app and it still shows that album as a folder with pictures in it.
. in front of the folder name works. thx
This is a problem since there ae too many folders to id as such. I even DnId nomedia manager and tried that. If you ID ever folder then you will not see anything. I posted my results on this link.

If someone finds a real solution, please let us know. Thanks!
It's actually quite simple...
Download "Gallery Enabler" from the market. This app will let you choose which folders to show and which to hide...
Now.. wasn't that simple??
Open Notepad and save a blank file as ".nomedia" (select "All Files" in the "Save as Type" option).
Then simply put that ".nomedia" file anywhere you want to hide images/ringtones from applications.
OR
just download ".nomedia" file straight from your phone

Holy crap, this worked perfectly. THANK YOU! I've been tearing my hair out trying to figure out how to keep the gallery from showing all my album art. It was getting really annoying to have to sift through it everytime I wanted to find a picture.

Gallery Enabler app is renamed to Media Hidden. FYI. It works well. Also there is nomedia app in the market as an alternative.

Just DnId and selected all Folders shown by this app. I only allowed DCIM, Movies, Music, Photos and Screenshots folders to be allowed.
However, the following folders/files/categories were still displayed using 3DGallery app:
Browser 11, Calcpro 2, Common 24, Controls 22, FrmAddAlarm 22, FrmAlarm 45, FrmOptions 4, ...........S2 18, S1 19, etc.......
This app sure does not work for me? Any suggestions?
the .nomedia files work but it also removes all the phones searching for all media in that folder..
i tried this to keep the music player from playing the ringtones and it worked but then my phone didnt ring
i would say putting the . infront of folders is the easiest way to keep the pictures private.
it will keep the gallery from showing your pics and you can still browse them with astro.
i installed media hidden and it worked perfectly however I noticed one issue that if I hide my muaic folder because it was showing my album covers in gallery, then it would hide my music all together and then I get a message in music player app that no music found
Other then that this app works fine

Why can't it just play/show pics from a specific folder like the other Music/Photo apps allow? To me an app doesn't work unless it does what it is suppose to. This does not work.

Thanks, read the link and still don't think that is the answer. I am looking for something that allows me to tell an app what folder(s) to view/open for pics/music. I don't need an app that scan my entire SD Card looking for that stuff.
Thanks again!
For music I now use a program called Meridian player. This lets you load certain folders to play.
Can anyone post the .apk for Media Hidden? I can't get it to download off the market for some reason. It's a free app so it shouldnt be a warez violation or anything.

gallery issues..help

so ive tried several diff folders and loc. to place my photos in so gallery will recognize them...no luck. can someone tell me where they have their pics stored so gallery will display them. also, how can i get my books covers to not show in my gallery...thanks in advance. and yes, i did search first.
Are you updated to 3.1? I actually have my images on my external sdcard, but in 3.1 theres a Pictures folder, an eBooks folder, etc...I can't remember if it was configured differently in 3.0.
Download sdrescan from the market and after transfering pics use sdrescan...my pics showed up after that.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
Yeah... I'm on brd 3.1. ill try rescan..i had my pics in the pic folder but they aren't recognized. And my book covers are in my gallery too... gotta figure this out..
try this
First go to applications / all and find the gallery application. Clear data and force stop. Open the gallery and see if that worked.
If that doesn't work. go applications / all and find the media storage application. clear data. Then open the gallery. Fixed my weird gallery problems.

Videos showing up in Gallery app

I put some tv shows on my Nexus 5 but now they show up in the Gallery app. How do I make it so only photos show in Gallery? Under my storage settings the videos show up as Misc. storage instead of videos. I just used Android File Transfer to drop the files.

Make sure the videos are in a different folder than your photos.
In the videos folder, create a file (I use ES File Manager, you can use a computer too) called .nomedia (just like that, starting with a period).
Restart the phone and the videos won't show up, but you can access them thru a file manager or media player etc.
edit: If any of that was confusing, I have attached a .nomedia file. Just extract the zip file and you will have the file I am talking about.
Any folder you put this file into the contents will not show up in the stock gallery app.

This is because Gallery is the stock Android video player, so it is supposed to show videos!
My personaly recommendation is to ditch the stock Gallery and use QuickPic instead (free on store) which as well as being a far better image viewer (including immersive mode statusbar hiding!) also has the ability to hide videos from the main list, plus the ability to hide any specific folder your want from the main view.

You can see it on a computer, also there should be a setting in ES Explorer to view hidden files.
Found it.
If you use ES File Explorer.
click on the top left, hit Tools, then near the bottom there's a "show hidden files" option.
