[Q] fast dormancy issue - Galaxy S II General

Hey guys.
Iv been reading a few things regarding fast dormancy and switching it off improves battery life and network speeds, but im unable to find this hidden dialler menu.
*#9900# doesn't do anything, when I type it, it just disappears - no menu comes up.
What am i missing ?
Im on Lite'ning ROM 1.5 KF2 modem and Kf2 kernal
Thanks guys

*#*#9900#*#*

Thanks for the reply but that also doesn't work, nothing pops up at all....

Make sure that you are using the stock dialer, not another one you have installed from the market afterwards.

It is stock dialler, I haven't changed that ever. Im starting to think maybe its network related ?? Im with Optus Australia, maybe they don't support it or maybe I have different dialler codes ?? Thanks for our help

Network errors while sync or Dropbox
When Fast Dormancy is disabled; I keep getting network error messages while I sync Dropbox files to my device. Whne enabled, everything is fine.
I did not notice any such issue with other data applications.

That works for me, and is how I disabled fast dormancy a couple of weeks ago. I can only assume that it's something to do with your ROM or FW.
I'm on stock, KE2.

FIXED!!
I fixed it by installing Infusion 1.2 by Nitroz ROM his rom is awsum !! now my battery lasts even longer and have wayy better network speeds.
his rom is can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152693
Thanks guys for the help anyway

3G completely broken! :/

Hi there,
I've got a really big problem with my TD2, since i tried a tweak to increase the lifetime of the battery 3g completely broke. I found the tweak somewhere here in the Forum, but I wasnt able to find it again. I was using the XDAndroid ROM and tried to tweak the connection using the service menu (*#*#4636#*#* in android. setting the phone to "GSM only" should still allow 3g with less battery drain in general) but since that whenever my phone is connected via 3g i just don't have internet. It still connects to the network and also shows the 3g or "H" icon but i cant reach any server.
This happens in WiMo and in Android!
As soon I set up the phone only to use GSM everything just works fine. Already tried every possible setting within the android tool but it jumps back to "Unknown" everytime.
I also tried flashing the radio with the 4.49.25.91 ROM from this thread. That didn't help either :/
My WiMo i flashed to the current energy ROM, too.
I really don't know what to try anmore, if someone have got an idea please tell me
Flash it back to your stock ROM and see if that fixes the issue.
Nope :/
Just more slow and ugly than the energy rom ^^ 3g still won't work.. beside that even when booting to android it wont work, so i dont think it's rom related...
It has to be something about the radio and/or band settings that android messed up and cant be restored with the tools i have.... Maybe someone knows a tool that allows much radio tweaking?
Edit:
Nice, flashed back to energy rom and set up the network type and band again (settings -> personal -> phone) and now it's working again!
Even it wasn't a direct solution, flashing a bit around seem'd to be helpful
Hi,
bad news... 3g is working now, but it's very unstable and slow!
I made some speed tests via internet sharing:
GSM Mode -> Edge ("E" Icon)
Everything is stable and speeds are okay for edge (up to 18kb/s download, that is max. for GMSK?)
3G Mode -> UMTS ("3G" Icon)
Connection is VERY laggy and unstable, sometimes it completely loses connection. Only got a single Test through that messured a download rate of 0.03Mb/s that is even below default GSM and ping time of over 500ms. (Sadly i didn't copy the results)
3G Mode -> HSDPA ("H" Icon)
As long it keeps using HSDPA everything seems stable and fast, i'll run a speed test when i'm back from work (i only have 3g at the town i work) and post the results here when i'm done. Didnt have that much time to test this yet.

Possible fix for data stalling issues some of us are having.

Right, a little back story.
I brought my SGS2 at the start of May in the UK on O2 so I have an early model which came with the firmware before KE1. I rooted in the first week and was flashing Villainrom 1.0 before too long with no data problems.
I think it was around KE2 with Lite'ning rom that I first saw my phone constantly switching between H & 3G and stalling when receiving or sending data. This behaviour has continued through all the firmwares I've tried with many different modems. I moved onto to Cognition when it was v1.01 and have been using it all the way unto 1.2 with the KG3 modem. Again still with data connecting problems.
Things I have tried -
Turning off fast dormacy
Editing the build.prop http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097612&highlight=build.prop pages 1-5
Switching off HSDPA/HSUPA via the *#301279# command
Disabling juice defender
Switching to WCDMA only
Changing modems
Full hard reset and reflasing of roms
Even with the above on multiple roms and rom versions my data connection was unreliable at best and killing spree warranting at its worst.
Possible fix-
What i found lurking on XDA on a slow day at work was the command below
*#2263#
This allows you to select which bands your phone uses. I selected option 2 then tested the 4 available bands. They all resulted in a complete loss of reception except WCDMA 2100. this is probably network specific you'll need to try it yourselves.
The results and current settings
Now when I try to use my data connection the phone no longer switches between H & 3G. It will start on 3G then find H and stay there, I see a slight delay if its been in deep sleep or JD has cut the connect but this is normal for the phone to start on 3G to save power.
Fast dormacy - off
build.prop -stock/unedited (I found this worked for me for a while but since 2.3.4 it didnt seem to help)
HSDPA/HSUPA via the *#301279# command - both on
Juice defender - on
WCDMA only selected as when picking a band it doesn't seem to like having a GSM band selected as well (happy to be corrected on that)
Modem KG3 -
Rom cog 1.2 - I'm patiently waiting 1.4 based on KG6 to test my findings.
Conclusion-
Okay it could be that selecting a band does F'all and that I'm seeing better results for a completely different reason. I'm not a developer so my fixing skills amount to playing with stuff I don't fully understand and seeing how more or less broke I've made it.
After thought -
Ive seen on the sensation forum they have discussed the wrong IMEI code being the cause of poor data speeds so I may look into that next.
Please share your experiences and anything else you've tried.

That should be no connection as IMEI belongs to phone and handshakes with network first .
KG6 modem some report as better .

I will have to give this a try and see how it works, thanks for the share.
I am in the same boat, it is VERY frustrating to say the least. A typical scenario for me is: reading a web page on my S2 for a good few minutes (3g has gone to sleep mode by the time I have finished reading), I click on a link, 3g flashes, H comes up and flashes once.....wait.....wait.......wait......10 seconds later it decides to initiate a connection and take me where I want to go! It does the same thing with the XDA app. I have been onto O2 about this a couple of weeks ago, all they did was give me the settings over the phone (which were the exact same ones I already had) and they also sent me a replacement sim card, suffice to say, there is no change. Now I am convinced its a network problem of some sort, I have a three sim card which I have been trying out and the above problems do not exist anymore when using three, I click a link after 3g has gone to sleep and it goes from 3g to H and initialises the data transfer in one smooth motion. It looks like I'll be getting my PAC code and moving to Three!
would be interested to hear if switching to the 2100 band helps at all seeing as your on O2 as well
Mine is O2 via Giffgaff and no problems at all .
Tested KG6 modem Wi|Fi only and it is a stronger signal .
jje
Yeah, forgot to mention that, I have just enabled it. I can't test at the moment though coz there is no 3G coverage where I am. The only problem with enabling it is you will not be able to connect to GPRS or Edge if you need to. But it is worth testing regardless.
Just been out and about and tried that setting, didn't make much difference unfortunately
Maybe it was a combination of tweaks on my end. What rom & modem are you using?

Villain 2.3 with KG3 modem. The problem has been the same whatever ROM I have used, I even flashed back to O2 stock a couple of weeks ago to see if it was a ROM problem, but that was the same. I can't remember what it was like when I first got the handset though, mine was the first batch as well.

The wife is on Giffgaff so I think I'll give that sim a try before I get my PAC off O2.

hi
i am just testing now this fix. i have an o2 phone and i did the same changes you did, disable fast dormancy, changed build.prop settings, will let you know after going a few times underground ;-)
gabrio
confirm, this is working, even when i go underground or when the signal goes away, it gets back to H/H+ and works, gabrio
Give it a little while, I think you'll be back saying it didn't work
Personally, I went ahead with my threat and moved over to 3uk, never looked back since with this problem, been perfect!
I've tried it all. Disabled fast dormancy, hspa, toyed with band selection, edited build.prop (btw, don't bother with it, the network settings you find on the web to type in don't work on the s2) you name it - but it would still cut out. Luckily, my phone is unlocked so I switched my provider and now it works like a charm with all the bells and whistles enabled. I can ride the tram all across warsaw and maybe have a handful of 2-3 second hiccups when I'm listening to online radio. Curiously enough, on my previous provider I've noted that there are some areas (like a busy mall - Arkadia) where it would not stall as well as a few other places, and most other areas that were notorious with data hanging. I'm convinced now that it is an issue on the telco side (*cough*Orange*cough*), and too bad because I was on a prepaid plan with them that for roughly $30 I had 7GB of transfer. I guess they figured they can promise the world on their trash network, because nobody would actually use it up. YMMV.
Had this issue with a UK GS2 purchased from Negri using it on AT&T.
Since upgrading to the latest UK firmware with 2.3.4 I have not had the issue going on about 2 weeks now!
Man was that issue annoying. Had to restart the phone sometimes to get data back.
Joe
Ok I did that too though how abt lag? Phone lags a bit opening large sms conversations and browsing home screens.. But peace. Yours too?

[Q] CM 7.0.3 wildfire data connection toggle lag

hello there,
i rooted my wildfire a few days back & flashed CM 7.0.3 stable mod and now im experiencing a lag in data connection toggle.
once the phone is rebooted/turned on i can enable data access over mobile network, but after a while i can not... even though the data enable box is ticked & when i check the network type, it remains at HSDPA.
to re-enable data, i have to reboot or put the phone into airplane mode & back!
hope u guys can help me out!
cheers
same problem here!
i suggest u to move over to CM7 nightlies builds..its more stable then the "stable" 1 and seem so good so far..
I dont have any problems, uses the same cm7, but with latest radio, try changing the radio, else check if u had changed some thing in settings-wireless and networks, or check for some apks like autorun manager or task killers which ends some system applications/process,as some of them are critical for running android os,like android keyboard which when disabled makes your onscreen keyboard disàppear, even though u use some other keyboard input method like better keyboard app.
And i am dam sure that its not a bug in cm7, just becoz as we all know android is an os which largely depends on internet for its functioning, so the developer will take much more care in data connection codes, and a bug like this wont happen. So get a whole check, ur problem will be solved.

[Q] Proplem with all 2.3 based roms

Hello. I have been using void until now. Sometime ago I tested Oxygen. I immedietly noticed a problem with connections. The phone had to be in roaming mode to get any connections at all. Even then I was only able to call and send txt but no internet was available.
So I switched back to void which worked like a charm.
Today I suddenly got the urge to try something new again. So I installed MIUI. The same problem exist with it as it did with oxygen. No internet connection what so ever. After furiously messing with the roaming mode button and a couple of restart the internet connection suddenly came to life. But it is extremely slow and it suddenly disconnects from time to time.
I have a model bought from finland and it was originally with saunalahti version of 135. Any help on how to continue using 2.3 based roms would surely be appriciated.
This is not rom problem. I used all roms and never ever had ANY of problems. ANY.

Let me clarify this once and for all. Android is a slightly different OS, it uses something called middleware, which acts like a bridge between the hardware and the drivers on each Rom.
Now going back to your B135, which is very old btw, you need to upgrade the Stock Rom to at least B137, which will upgrade your AMSS file. This way the Wifi/3G/screen/sensors modules get updated firmware and that should fix your connectivity problems with 2.3 drivers.
Saunalahti is MVNO and it roams on Elisas network so it's normal that you need to enable roaming. Stock ROM has modified RILs or something so that they recognise Elisas network as Saunalahtis and then you don't need to enable roaming. I tried getting those RIL work with Oxygen but those didn't fix it. Cyanogenmod has settings so you don't need to roam. (atleast you can get rid of that roaming symbol)
I don't understand why it works with Void and FLB, maybe those are based on some other MVNO's stock rom idk. Or does it work as it should on every Froyo ROM? Haven't tried other ones and really cba.
You can just enable roaming, you won't get any fees for that as long as you roam on finnish networks. (and it just roams on Elisa afaik)

This is a well know problem. As you know, Saunalahti runs on Elisa's network and when using 2.3 roms, operator is identified as Elisa, thus making the phone think that its roaming.
Some have tried fixin this, but nothing yet.
There is no harm enabling data roaming (international data roaming can be disabled from oma.saunalahti). Or by using CM7 which has an option for "national data roaming". That also removes the roaming icon...
sorry a lil OOT,
how about other features like usb tethering on 2.3.x?i see all gingerbread roms for huawei ideos x5 have issue on these.
is there any solution/workaround for usb tethering?
thanks

[TROUBLE] Internet trouble because of H and H+ switching every time

Hi,
Just bought this crazy SGS4. Everything works very great (exepect Tasker doesn't reconize my ROOT when Titanium do...)
I have only one big trouble Internet stuff (as play store, browser...) load data only when connecting to H+
So when I open anything i have to wait H+ connection (1 second to 6 seconds sometimes) then when it's loaded it goes back to H and between every click i have to wait it to connect to H+...
Any idea, fix ?
Orange France
Same issue
i used to have this problem on my galaxy note, i disabled some setting in the developer menus, the ones where you have to type in a secret code into the phone app. I disabled something to do with hspa but can't remember what the setting was but it did the trick, im on vodafone uk
I found any of those settings in devs settings.
The Idea is good switch to H when it's not in use (to prevent battery life) but not a second after the loading and sometimes during the loading that makes impossible to load the page...
Moreover it's strange I can't load any page with H because it shloud work
If you are rooted, try to disable fast dormancy. I had unstable data connection on my note 2,which constantly switches between H+/H/3g because my carrier does not support fast dormancy. The fast dormancy app works well on galaxy s4 aswell.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Yes rooted.
Thank you for the tip. It appears to be better. I will make some search about fast dormancy I didn't know this before you tell me.
I keep you in touch
hy guys, i'm an italian user, same problem on my new galaxy s4 white. i didn't get it in my phones (S3, S2, Note2), but in this S4 is terrible, because it takes many seconds to connect to various app.....
i've called the Samsung support, they tell me to try to put it in Safe Mode for some days by clicking many times the button menu, but i can't put it in that way...
have you found any solution for fast dormacy mode?
thanks
