My galaxy S freezes out of the blue, and i can't even turn it off. Sometimes i look to check the time, and noticed the phone is turned off. Both problems are only corrected by taking out the battery, and putting it back in...and then waiting for it to happen again!
Is this a software issue that 2.2 will fix? Should I exchange for a new one, or will all of them have the same problems, if bought from the same place? (Best Buy in Vancouver Canada)
either your battery is not good, or your got a defective phone
the new SGS out of the box works smooth
what is your firmware version?
type in
*#*#1234#*#*
Sounds like a bad phone. I got mine from one touch in delta and it has been perfect. Return asap and get yourself a working unit.

Thought you meant lag. Mine lags a lot (stock firmware) and sometimes "freezing" seems the word.
But no, that's not it. Perhaps you can try a hard reset and check your sdcard too, something isn't ok.
I'm actually experiencing the same issue. My phone goes black and seems to be happening more in low wireless connection areas. Like in a mall. With the the *# code I get I9000UGJG9.
if you have LAG issues, install the one click lag fix in the development area
problem solved
Its not LAG issues it a complete freeze issue. My phone goes black like standby mode and will not come out of it. The only fix is a battery pull or holding the power button for 6 seconds. The same issue as the op.

that is a factory defect
take it back, exchange it for a good one
this latest firmware is really good, you should not see anything like that
Allright will do. I figured as much I didn't want to bring it back I already purchased some apps. Guess I'll have to wait for my store to get some.

you do not lose the Apps
once you log back into your Gmail account in your new phone, when you go into Android Market, they will remain in the Download section
those apps are saved in your Gmail account, not in the phone.
that's the cool thing about the android phones
so if you ever switch to say an HTC Android, or a Nokia Android, you can still re-install those apps (assuming they are compatible)
Oh sweet I wasn't aware of that. I sold a couple of the Galaxy S and I'm the only one with this issue as of yet. Hopefully it isn't a common one. I've been trying my best to convert Iphone buyers in most cases when I'm sold out to get this phone I just hope it delievers for my customers and they won't have the same issue as me.
Are u futzing with oclocking or changing CPU mode ? This causes hangs with black screen

I believe this same thing just happened to me. Plug in my phone to recharge it (got it 2 days ago, so the battery still runs out quick) then tried to activate it and Lock screen wouldn't disappear when sliding.

you do know you don't just slide
you have to move the entire picture of the "slide" out of the phone frame for it to unlock
if you say only slide it partially, it will just bounce back and remain locked.
if you have thick fingers it wont work properly
you might be better off using the 3rd party unlock screens, specially the kinds that needs no sliding.
i have that issues nowadays too. randomly "freezes" on the black screen, i can call through my phone (ringing) but there's no notification / vibration or anything or sorts.
the only way is to reboot the phone and it'll randomly happen again after some time >.> and the call that i've just missed isn't showing on the call-log either.
i hope it gets better overtime or i'll just have to reflash!
ps. was fine before i tweaked my cpu settings in sleep mode, you might wanna disable that if you're using it.
Mine has the same problem and by the looks of things a lot of people have this issue. I called customer support and after sometime the rep admitted this and said it will be fixed in next build however I doubt that
Then there are probably lots of diff units out there. The phone shouldn't freeze unless you are using a beta/alpha firmware (pretty unlikely - i've tested more than 10 different firmwares without a freeze), or set the core clock of the cpu to a higher & unstable frequency (OC). people claim that their phone can do 1.2ghz - that's nice, but each chip has a different capability.
I picked my Nexus S up this am as the store opened at 9am. I powered it on and away it went it had all of my apps dl in minutes.I had to go into work so I just let it charge on my car charger. Got to work and went to start Cardio trainer ( which is an app I use daily for about 3-5 hours per day) it immediately force closed. Force closes each time I try and use it. So i sent message to dev. The next thing I know I get a message saying that Beautiful Widgets geolocation is getting false reading from the GPS and it force closes. The GPS has been spotty. When first initiated it took over 10 minutes to get a lock. Turned it off and tried again and it took 7 minutes. The third time it was about 15 seconds and since then it alternates back and forth from almost instant to minutes again. What concerns me is that the accuracy just bounces back and forth from 32.6 ft to 16.3 ft and anywhere in between and really never stabilizes. This may be normal for this type GPS systems(I don't know) Also I have the old market and cannot find a link for the new market.Wasn't Gingerbread suppose to come with the new market? So far I am impressed with the smoothness of the system but not with the GPS. Also the lInpack scores are lower than on the Vibrant. Appears to be very solid. Anyone else have any of these problems?

It sounds like a GPS problem with your device, Just get it swapped mate

I've only had FCs using the new google maps so far.
Random FC for me in maps, market and gallery :-/
ive yet to experience a FC
Cardio trainer is not working for me either, I am wondering if the dev's need to update it for 2.3, I also can't get vlingo to work.

I don't think it's a gps thing, I can't even get into cardio without it FC, my GPS locks without a problem.
phone randomly goes to boot animation screen
Ok, so it appears something is wrong with my phone. Every once in a while, i'll look down on my phone or in the middle of doing something, and it will go to the boot animation screen. Most of the time, the boot animation screen is dimmer than on normal start up. It will eventually go back to the ui, which I will then have to restart my phone because it won't connect to wifi or 3g.
Anyone else had this problem? Think it's worthy of getting a replacement from bestbuy or a glitch that should be fixed with an ota?
I haven't seen anything like this yet, though I suppose I don't keep my eye on my phone constantly, so I suppose it could have happened while I wasn't looking. No WiFi or 3G problems, either.
Sounds like you've got a serious issue there if you're seeing it a lot, though. I would get it replaced. Unless you're running a third-party ROM or some other non-stock mod, in which case dump it first and see if the problem is being caused by that.
Yea I had this happen twice. At gym was changing a track with Bluetooth headphones and went to dimmer bootscreen had to pull battery. And another time I had to reapply all my Widgets on my homescreen. I'm on CM7 rom

Are you using a custom ROM/kernel/SetCPU? Those problems sound like the ones the D1 has when it's clocked past a stable speed.

I'd look at the software you've added since the phone was purchased as the first primary suspect. Weird widgets, background services, live wallpapers, background syncing app, something like that...
You'd want to wipe/reset the phone before a return anyways, so why not do a factory wipe/reset from the settings/privacy menu, then start off with a fresh phone (software wise)? Be conservative in what apps you install at first, and check for stability; then slowly add back the stuff you'd have one by one and see which app from the Market causes the glitch.
I think that's a bit more fair to Samsung, Best Buy, and whoever ends up with the device as a refurb, than returning what is probably not bad hardware to the store.

Hmmm...and you don't think the fact that you're using ALPHA level firmware that is known to have some bugs in it, might be your problem?
I'd expect that kind of thing with CM as long as it's alpha, and even beta. I wouldn't be surprised with it even on the RC versions. It's experimental until Team Douche releases an actual ready-for-prime-time version.

Nope, I'm not even rooted. I am however running ADW ex launcher. As far as widgets, the only widget i have running is the weather/news that came stock on the phone. As far as apps, I really don't have anything crazy downloaded or running.

I've been running ADW.Launcher without problems up to now. I just upgraded to ADWLauncher EX last night; I'll post here again if I start seeing this issue.
this is similar to the other topic.
Random Reboots, we call it on the SGS (samsung galaxy s) side
hoping for the best, it is not the same deadly problem we found on some of the 16GB SGS phones, that eventually lead to the corruption / destruction of the internal SD
but those were the signs.
so i'm really hoping that is not the same problem, else i'll really be pissed with Samsung to produce yet another crappy phone with cheap internal parts.
it should not be, as i saw pictures of the innards of the SNS (samsung nexus s) and it was clearly showing SandDisk for the 16GB internal SD
Random Reboots
A couple of times I've had the Nexus S reboot, once when I was in the middle of a call and once again as I was messing around with the settings.
I'm running 2.3.1, th latest build GRH78, does anyone have an idea as to why the random reboots are occurring?
Thanks in advance for your help

Sometimes my phone will get very unresponsive such that any action takes many seconds to show up, and everything is very choppy. Often I see this when I wake up in the morning, but it happens often enough in general. It's so bad that I can't shut it down normally because it would take over 10 min (I've actually never waited to see exactly how long it would take). Thankfully I just found out about the three finger reset (volume up, camera, power), so I shouldn't have to pull the battery anymore, but it's still a problem.
I don't remember this happening before using custom roms. It happens with both DK28 roms I've tried - Bonsai and Viper. I believe it also occurred on the 2.1 Epic Experience, although I'm not sure. I guess I should try flashing to DK28 stock to see if that works, but it's a pain to set up everything each time. I figured I'd ask here to see if anyone else has had this problem and found a way to fix it. Also, I have a feeling this could be related to WiFi being turned on, but can't confirm yet.
My phone was stuttering yesterday.
But that was only after installing smartbench and using theonscreen keyboard.
However, since I've upgraded to dk28, the phone does take (relatively) forever to shutdown.
It'll go black but the bottom lights would still be on and then like a minute or two later it vibrates and actually cuts off

When my phone does this, it reminds me that I like to have SeePU installed. It's pretty useful in pointing out the apps that are hogging CPU and most likely slowing down your phone.
For me it's often Touchdown, and I kill it and things are back to normal.
I have found a few things that are useful. When I need to reboot my phone I use quick boot from the market. Works every time. In between I use fast reboot also from the market. Try them and see how they work.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Thanks for the app suggestions. I like the taskbar icons for SeePU. It's always been useful on my Mac (stats from iStat). Quick Boot makes things easier as well.
Next time my phone hangs, I'll see if some process is taking 100% CPU.
The phone hung again, and it seemed like something was taking 100% CPU, if the taskbar SeePU icon is to be trusted. I wasn't able to figure out what the culprit was though, because the phone pretty much stopped responding. Otherwise I would have loaded Android System Info to check.
can the epic 4g run this lag fix? if not, do we have any other ways to fix the lag?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784691
edit: nvm
So I was able to view Android System Info while my phone was hanging, but it did now show any processes taking 100% CPU, although the total CPU usage was 100%. My guess then is that the Android 2.2 OS is buggy.
However, I did find people who said leaving USB debugging on would fix it, so I'm going to try that.
For reference:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826507
http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-support-troubleshooting/244553-100-cpu.html#post2140890
My phone hasn't hung for a while, so apparently enabling USB debugging prevents the hang / lag / crash / 100% CPU. Weird but I'm glad it works
Now the only problem is kswapd0 eating CPU sometimes. I think this is caused by lack of memory, but I'm not sure what I can do about it.

What's the difference? What's new in this ROM?
It's just a US based firmware I think.
Its for Canadian users of I5800L. Probably Latin American countries too....
Anyone know if this rom is for the 3 galaxy i5800L of Brazil, if there is any blockage in this rom is yes or any other kind, since I'm using the European Roma JPF, and I'm scared to update this with my phone and brik
was very grateful for whoever can help
Thanks Clarkkov, the rom works perfectly, improved GPS, WIFI, the speed of app, and did not change my programs do not run a hard reset. The only catch is that for anyone in Brazil there is no language PT-PT or PT-BR.

Hello, sorry is my question is trivial, but i tested many other roms but i can flash this one, afeter oding reboots my phone, there's a recovery mode screen saying E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 and i tried 3 times, same results, so i'd like ask how you flashed correctly, thank you very much
I used this ROM in my GT-i5800L (from Vivo In Brazil) and my experience was not one of the best.
For starters, lots of the bugs I have seen in other Froyo releases are still there:
The alarm clock bug (if say it is 7:00PM and you want to set an alarm clock for the next day at 8:00AM, it automatically sets it for 8:00AM on the current day of the week, in other words it sets the alarm for 6 days and 13 hours, rather than in 13 hours) this becomes a problem because you have to manually change the days.
During a call, if you use the sensor the screen turns off, but when the screen turns back on after you apart it from your ear, the notification bar lights up green. This isn't a problematic bug, but it just shows an unfinished look and feel.
Rooting is a problem (z4Root does not work) and after rooting with SuperOneClick, the phone becomes slow, and even after installing busybox, there are noticeable differences.
GPS still takes forever to get a lock, when it actually does.
The camera can take only one photo. If you try to take a second shot without first leaving the camera, 80% of the times, the camera will lock up, show a green screen and/or force close.
The supposedly improved memory management of Froyo also doesn't become apparent. The included task manager doesn't show you running first party programs, just third party... Although clearing the memory is a bad thing for Android (you should only kill active programs if they are really slowing the phone down. Killing programs kills the battery life), you cannot do a thing to control it. The only option you are left with is wiping Level 1 and Level 2 memory, killing ALL active programs. If you want to SELECT which programs you want to kill, they have to be third-party programs.
Downloadable task managers seem to have little effect, since Froyo changes the way you can kill apps belonging to Android (first-party).
Because of the poor management, listening through Bluetooth is impossible, since the audio fades every 10 - 20 seconds because the phone neeeds to think. I first thought it was an AudioTuning issue, but then I tried launching a heavy app while playing music via BT, and the problem becomes evident.
Also, whenever I connect to bluetooth in my car, my in call volume gets dropped down to 50%. That's okay, because there would be too much noise coming from the car speakers, but when I disconnect my bluetooth, I expect my volume to be taken back up where it originally was. Eclair did not solve this, Froyo promised to solve it, but in any of the firmwares I've tried, have they actually done anything about it.
I previously had installed JPF and JPM with similar issues as listed above. By installing an American version I thought battery life would be greater, since it wouldn't have to be searching for 3G on frequencies of 3G not used in American countries. Although my battery life was better than JPF and JPM, my original firmware (streamlined with only actual useful apps and etc. - if you want to take a look at streamlining look for my post Streamlined Apps for 2.1 / 2.2) works better than any other firmware I have used (including Kyrillos and Apocalypse).
I miss the GPS button on the notification drop bar, and the Google groups in my contacts. But rather than that, I see no way where Froyo beats Eclair...
Mind you I don't use tethering, VPN, do not play heavy games (as I feel consoles and computers are there for that kind of thing - I just have light games installed like Air Control, Zuma, Labyrinth, etc.. to pass the time), turn off my wifi and bluetooth when not in use, leave my brightness to a minimum unless I can't see (then i turn brightness up), but have 3G running all the time, bluetooth whenever I am in the car, and Wi-Fi whenever I need to use the web and am near a known wi-fi antenna.
Battery Life (with indications above):
I5800LVIJG7 (2.1 Vivo) - 60 Hours
I5800LVIJG8 (2.1 TICO?) - 56 Hours
I5800DTLKDA (2.2 Free) - 35 Hours
JPM /JPF / Kyrillos / Apocalypse / Lestatious - 18 to 25 Hours
Hope that helps...
My advice.. stick with what you have...
Good morning, I tried other rom tb's but found this the best, my battery lasts around 2 days using wifi and 3G, I liked this rom, my GPS was fast after I turn on my GPS the following, the squeegee GPSFIXS with 1 minute and it fixed my location from GPS point of 100% with 3 to 18 meters of accuracy.
I would like to return to the rom VIVO because I believe that new skirt rom soon
I Flashed this rom, but the apks: gpssetup2 and fmradio aren't in the rom.
I copied fmradio.apk from I5800XXJPS and worked, but the gpssetup.apk didn't work. Because this my GPS don't work.
Anyone help me to solve my GPS problem in this rom?
Hellol
So I have an old S4 and have a problem that I imagine is due to my girlfriend dropping the phone but would like to hear if anyone has an idea of what is going on.
So basically the phone screen wakes every 5-30s (seems to be a random time interval I have used a stopwatch to make sure it wasnt predictable) I originally assumed it was a kernel problem so I switched kernels, then switched roms, then went back to 100% stock and this behaviour happens on every single rom and every single configuration Touchwiz / aosp / CM / Google Edition everything I have tried.
What is strange is something I noticed that is a work around which is that if I play music in the background it never wakes. So basically what I am doing now is having music playing 24/7 and the volume down all the way so I cannot hear it. This is a pretty acceptable work-around but I was wondering if one of you clever folks would maybe have some idea what is going on and why playing music fixes it.
Damage: Screen is cracked in the top left corner where the sensors are, this why I am just assuming is phyically damaged something that.
Current OS: CM 12.1 Nightly.
Tried stock battery + aftermarket battery just in case it was that.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
