KB5 Root? - Vibrant General

I've read a ton of threads on how to root KB5 and none of them work. What's the best way to root and install recovery on KB5?

And if I don't want a rom and only want Rom Manager on right now?

Its been awhile but I think if all you want to do is put cwm recovery on the phone you need to modify yo our recovery from a stock 2.2 to 2.1
Easiest way is to odin back to jfd, reboot into recovery, reinstall packages(im guessing that you already have the update.zip on your sd card from prrvious attempts to flash cwm recovery), this should place you in cwm now. If you download a stock kb5 rom and put it on your sd card go ahead and flash that.
Harder way is to modify your recovery following the thread thats in the dev section..might not have to wipe or change roms this way, not sure as I just did it the easy eay.

Odin. That's a 2.1 kernel... Don't use 2.1 stuff for 2.2

umm do you have the signed froyo update on yout sdcare if you do reneme it update.zip and flash it through stock recovery or try to get into clockwork somehow if that doesnt work youll have to go to odin.

You have to use Odin. There are no kernels out until after the code has been released.

No, make a tar file that contains just the zImage file from SPH-D700-DK28-8Gb-REL.tar.md5. If you flash that with Odin, it will replace the kernel only, leaving your /system and /data intact.

What happens when you press the Home button...? This is a major reason why you should do a backup before flashing ROMs. ODIN. Happened to me, and this fixed it. Get your Google on: ODINv3 & dk28 rom.

JL2 + ClockWork

Hey guys,
I don't know if I missing the BIG picture somewhere but I just can't seem to find a way to get CWM installed on a fresh JL2 install?
Iv'e googled, xda, android forums, I'm just not finding anything!
As of now:
Rooted phone with Super One Click
SU latest
Titanium Backup
ROM manager
I tried an Odin CMW.tar via PDA field and bricked my phone. Took me about 2 hours to get it back. I had Phone-!-PC icon, then I had /dev/sd/slt01 (... something along those lines), then I had infinte boot loops. What a mess!
I have also tried it from ROM manager, and tried older CMW offered in ROM Manager.
There has to be some simple thing I'm missing.
That is all I have done with the phone. Ill leave like this until someone can point me in the right direction. Just so we are clear phone is well now.
Thanks.
All I did to get Clockwork working in my JL2 was flash CF Root using odin and then flash clockwork via rom manager. All the instruction are in the cf root thread in the development section.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 is the url for CF-Root and I used the CF Root JPK v1.1 file. It'll root your phone too so if your not already rooted then you don't have to worry about super one click or anything.
Ok, I flashed CF JPK v1.1 and installed CWM via ROM Manager but it does not boot into CWM, it goes straight to <e2>. but if i select update.zip it will boot CWM but if I reboot, it goes straight back to <e2>.
After you flash cwm with rom manager you have to go in recovery
And select update.zip and it might take a few times but it should end up in cwd. Works everytime on mine, after it does it the first time I'm usually good.

The reason why you can't apply update.zip is because JL2 comes with recovery 3e i stead of 2e like eclair version and 3e verify for the signature of update.zip, so no unofficial customization this way. The easiest way is to flash a custom kernel. Speedmod by Hardcore will enable CWM recover by default and give you the option to root if not done prior to flashing the kernel. It's pretty easy to do with odin and takes only 5 sec as these kernel are 5-6 mb. Moreover it's really safe.

That would work too, cf-root is with odin too and only takes a few seconds but as usual the instructions are on the first page of the thread.

I would also recommend this method. Super easy and it works.
+1 that's how I got CWM from a stock JL2 (speedmod 13a).
And if you get errors, reflash JL2 with update bootloader checked. It worked for me... ymmv.

Use odin to go back to stock and look here for super one click root dude
Hell I wouldnt even go back to stock just get the one click root for your phone and root again.you got a lot of stuff to read dude before you try this stuff learn everything dude

You can't flash .zip files with the 3e recovery. Try flashing a Voodoo kernel via odin or using odin to go back to stock so you can get clockwork mod recovery.
OP. I made a guide for going back to JFD and then flashing a ROM
Also, check the noob guide if you need more.
assuming you did everything right.....from regular recovery, re-install packages and reboot, reinstall packages once more and it will reboot to clockwork recovery, if that fails then follow this guide step by step:

I Cannot root my EL30 Gingerbread!

I have the ACS recovery files...
I have su.zip
I have the GB kernel or whatever.
I can't root the thing.
What am I missing? I tried Odining the ACS recovery and it does not give me the new recovery menu when I do the 3 fingers...
I personally would grab the CWM 5.027 Odinable recovery and follow qbking's video here:

Yes. It is very simple. Doing it the 2 step way couldn't be easier.
1. Stock el30, Odin the kernel that allows it to boot another recovery
2. Odin cwm.
3. I flashed directly to an mtd rom and couldnt be happier.
I have owned this epic since launch and can honestly say this is the best my phone has ever ran. All around clean gb1.1.2 w no CPU control, just letting the rom do its thing and setting all of my stuff up I have never had such good battery life. Stable on cm9 also but cm9 does use more juice than your standard gb roms. Mtd "basically" just provides you more room. Very crude explanation but that's the lamens terms

I thought no one did an odinable prerooted yet for us. Toadlife's was full stock, unrooted. Easiest thing to do is Odin EL30, Odin cwm 5.027 with auto reboot unchecked. Remove from computer, pop battery in and out, 3 finger into CWM and flash a prerooted EL30 ROM or MTD ROM of choice.

What he said. If your staying with stock rom. When you go into cwm. Flash. Superuser.zip. and then you should be fine. Before on EI22 there was a file that you had to delete. But I haven't been able to locate the file since.

[Q] How do I remove CWM and unroot my phone?

I installed the following CWM:
forums.techdiscussion.in/showthread.php/1382-How-to-install-ClockWorkMod-Recovery-in-Samsung-Galaxy-Y-S5360-Easiest-Method
and rooted it. Is there anyway I can do both these tasks? I've not installed Cyanogenmod or anything like that
you dont remove cwm
cwm is a recovery and there are two types
1 - tempory cwm - this is a zip file you flash in stock recovery to get to cwm recovery - You need to flash this zip every time you enter stock recovery in order to get to cwm
2 - perminant cwm - you replace your stock kernel with a custom kernel that replaces stock recovery with cwm recovery - therefore you no longer have stock recovery as it has been perminantly replaced by cwm
in order to go back to stock recovery you need to flash a kernel that has stock recovery instead of cwm recovery build in
with the root there are unroot zips - just do a search
to kill two birds with one stone you could just flash stock rom via odin - this will wipe everything from the phone and put it back to day you first switched it on - therefore it will have stock kernel which has stock recovery and it wont be rooted
