[Q] Can't Enter Recovery / Backup Mode - Acer Iconia A500

If I try to enter the recovery mode to do a backup, by either using POWER/VOL DN or selecting 'Reboot into recovery' in the Acer Recovery Installer v1.5 I get the following screen. It never enters the restore / backup screen.
Currently running Android Version 3.0.1, Build # Acer_A500_1.141.07_COM_GEN1.
Yes the A500 is rooted, and I'd like to back it up before doing the 3.1 update.
Any ideas ?

Maybe try reflashing cwm

download the acer recovery installer from the market and install CWM recovery.
restart and get into CWM do the backup.

thanks for the inputs,
got it to go, I had to select 'ClockworkMod Recovery rev1.3.4 by thor2002pro' then 'Install Recovery Image' now it no longer pops up the error screen when entering recovery mode.

CWM recovery issue

I have flashed CWM multiple times through Odin but everytime I reboot try to get into CWM I only get options for USB or Download mode. What am I doing wrong.
Also I cant get the Kies to connect to the device at all.
Its a LE 10.1 from IO
Thanks
Kies...have you unticked (unchecked) USB debugging in settings>applications>development and/or have you installed the correct Samsung drivers for the tab in Windows (assuming you're using windows) ?
IO tab came with a boot image that gives the option of fastboot/download when using the two button combo so you can push cwr with odin as many times as you like but that will not help...what you have done is changed the sos (recovery) image in partition 4 to cwr from the standard android recovery, but not the option to access that image...
As your tab stands you can only access cwm by rebooting from adb or fastboot using the appropriate command... ie "adb reboot recovery"
If you want to have recovery/download when using the two button combo you'll have to change the boot image using nvflash or odin
I also have a question, I installed "Ra" into my CMW as a alternate recovery, but now "RA" has be come my default recovery. I want to retain CMW as my main recovery. I deleted CMW and down-loaded it from Market, only to have "RA" still being my default recovery. I want CMW!!!

Not quite sure how on earth it would be possible to have an "alternate recovery"...there is only one recovery partition on the nvidia tegra chip
If you are rooted, install rom manager (if you don't have it already) and reinstall ClockworkMod Recovery from there

The method as you tryed is stock recovery, if you try to enter CWM recovery
after rooted, you must install Defy system recovery
- put system recovery.apk into SD card
- enable(Turn on) Unknown sources and USB debugging in Application settings
- install system recovery.apk from SD card (Use File manager or Root Explorer)
- Open System recovery App and Select Install Recovery system, it will show "Install success"
- Before reboot (Recovery reboot), you must Turn off "USB debugging"
Otherwise, defy will stuck in black screen
OK, If you want to reboot to CWM recovery mode, you can open System recovery App and Select Recovery boot
or Try that

What I always do when I flash something and it goes wrong is enter bootloader mode and flash a new sbf. I'm fairily sure to do that you hold power and volume up while booting.

I mistakenly rebooted after wiping cache, dalvik cache and sytem. Now I'm stuck at the moto logo. Is there any way to enter into custom recovery other than the flashing method you specified above?? I was using SlimBean(Slim-4.3.build.2-UNOFFICIAL-2013027-1124) with TWRP v2.6.3.0.

My device stoped working ... is it bricked ?

hi all
i'm beginner in android, i hardly downloaded rom for my iconia, however.

i read a little about that
1- i tried power+volume down but not working.
2- tried reset but not working.
3- tried adb but not working, its not in debug mod.
4- tried euu but not working ido not have my UID.( is it written on the ouside package.
5- tried to have my uid through usbdeview but there is no memory for previous thethering
6- tried wipe it to factory without recovery but not working
istill have the same fail message
note:
i had done a full backup previously to this problem with clockworkmod contains boot recovery and...
however
could you please help.!!
thanks in advances
Can you boot into recovery by holding down the volume down button and depressing the power on button?? If you can, once in clockworkmod recovery you need to select the "fix a500 boot/recovery checksums" under the advanced menu. It should have done this first time you booted into recovery to install a rom or when you rooted and installed cwm. Good luck, and once you get it fixed install the latest cwm recovery that is located on tegraowners.com.
Make sure you try volume up and down to get into recovery since it isn't very intuitive on which button is up and which is down.
Sounds like you have CWM loaded which has a tool to fix checksums. You boot to recovery mode using power * volume+ and then in the Advance menus is a item to fix your problem.
TD
I had the same issue a while back. If you do not have CWM installed, you should revert back to a 3.0.1 original ROM. I am not sure if 3.0.1 is required, but the original ROM from acer has a Windows Flash utility, so the tab is flashed using a PC, not the recovery mode from the tab itself.
It was a while back (before this summer), but i can't exactly remember if my tab already had CWM or ROOT.
I know there is/was a thread about reverting to 3.0.1 somewhere on XDA, but i can't seem to find it anymore.
Boot to recovery. Hold vol- and pwr until text appears at the upper left corner of the display.
Can you do that? And get the menu?
Say exactly what you did, with filename. All procedures you did.

Stuck in Recovery Boot Loop without direct access to a Windows Machine, options?

I have a TF101 with Megatron installed. I also have an HTC Thunderbolt. I believe at some point in using the tablet I entered recovery through the preinstalled Rom Manager, and now am stuck in a recovery boot loop. I can access the system by holding down Volume+ and Power, then letting the system cold boot. The system has Recovery Touch 5.8. I tried installing roaches recovery, and it said successful, but it still reboots into 5.8. I do not have direct access to a Windows Machine for a long while. i do have complete remote desktop access to a Windows 7 Machine over the internet, and access to my Thunderbolt. Is there anyway to fix this boot loop with what I have available to me? Thanks for any help.

As i understand you can cold boot you tablet. Method when tablet of hold volume - and power button till too white lines of text appear in left upper corner. Let go of the button and wait for it to cold boot up.
Then go online with your tablet to this topic
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213723
This topic is especially for bootloop problems with recovery. Our tablet can for some reason not handle if your boot into recovery throug rom manager.
Now in the above topic pick an earlier build of cwm and download it onto tablet. Then go back into recovery and flash this recovery the normal way as install zip from sd card (internal memory is that for the tablet )
Now you should be able to normal boot the os. If it after flashing still only boots into recovery your not able to flash recovery. And that can be solved by flashing cwm 3.2.0.1 from the same topic. Afterward you can flash touch recovery over the 3.2.0.1 to be updated.
Download ClockworkMod Recovery v5.5.0.4 roach-tf101-r2 from here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=934821&d=1331070176
Place the recovery zip on the sdcard where clockworkmod can read it.
Reboot into recovery using "adb reboot recovery" or "hold volume down and power for 3 seconds, let go of power only, then press volume up when prompted on screen"
In recovery, select flash zip from sdcard and select the recovery zip you downloaded
Once it has flashed the zip file, don't reboot but hold power button to shot down
Power on your device and boot in android. Download terminal emulator from market and type this:
Code:
su
echo boot | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 bs=1 seek=0
Reboot

[Q] TWRP: "custom recovery" not working anymore, TWRP not starting

Hi there,
I wanted to install latest CM10.1 coming from 0526 yesterday on my Defy+.
Did a backup with TWRP first.
Then the flashing failed, so I wanted to recover from backup.
Phone now is stuck at Motorola M not booting anymore.
When I enter bootloader (vol down) and want to enter "custom recover" he just jumps back to the same menu. TWRP is not starting.
Choosing "stock recovery" is possible, but if I choose a CM10.1 zip file it's not accepted.
RSD Lite does not recognize the phone when it's in the bootloader menu or in the stock recover menu.
Help is very much appreciated, what can I do?
Thanks and best regards.

Okay, I found out why I couldn't enter flash mode by using Vol+ when starting.
The phone powered already up when I put in the battery, so I always pushed Vol+ too late.
Pressing Vol+ WHILE inserting the battery did the trick, phone went into flash mode and I could re-flash 2.3.6 sbf using RSD lite.
[Idiot mode=off]
Still not sure why TWRP was messed up just by recovering from a TWRP-made backup...
Best regards
Same situation to me.
I opened Terminal Emulator, gained root access
then type below command to get recovery mode
# reboot recovery
Custom recovery not running
I have a similar issue.
I rooted my stock S4 and installed the proper TWRP.
Heres where my situation is a bit different from anything I have seen on the forum threads. All attempts—both hard and soft—to reboot into recovery, all direct the reboot to Odin Mode. Just to clarify I have not flashed any rom custom or stock, the only thing I have flashed has been TWRP and CWM recovery. And I only flashed CWM AFTER the Failings of TWRP.
When I attempt to boot into recovery, it flashes the blue characters then sends me into a Odin Mode loop until I hard-key the "download mode" and select restart to boot the os normally.
my phone works fine other than not being able to flash custom roms, which is a pain in the arse especially with all the s4 Bloatware.
Here's what I have done so far to help myself:
• install CWM recovery
• tried hard-key reboot recovery (power off/ press home/volume up/power)
• soft reboot recovery through both Goo, CWM and ROM Toolbox pro
• removed my sd card and tried reboot recovery
• removed battery and reboot recovery
• emulator reboot recovery
• reboot recovery both with and without usb cable
I looked into flashing stock with Odin but all tutorials i could find were of an older version and I didnt want to guess what I needed to get that to work,
Please let me know if theres anything I can do.
