[Q] OTA? - Acer Iconia A500

I just received an OTA update this morning. Any idea what it is? I'm running rooted Android 3.0.1, Kernal 2.6.36.3, build Acer_A500_1.141.07_COM_GEN1.
The update is System Update 4.010.07 (128.61MB)

I got the same push 10 minutes ago without even searching for an update. Let me know if you upgrade and it's 3.1 before I take the plunge . I don't know what else it could be as I upgraded to 3.01 over a month ago and have not done any kind of reset or anything since...

As he says it is version 4.010.07 this newer than the leaked one version 3.019.04

Ah right I misread that sorry it may be 3.1 so I wonder if he can do it?

Can someone running the leaked 3.1 post their build version please? Thanks!

I ran the aLogcat program but I can't find a URL anywhere. I even started to download the update hoping that it would log it, but no luck. Am I missing a step?
I'll TOFTT and run the update but I'd like post the url or the update file itself so that the bigger brains on here can analyze it. If it is 3.1 and I lose root, I'm sure someone will get it back .

Great! I just see from the log and just want to post the URL there
EDIT 1: Well, it is still an update package... seems that acer will never release a 'full' ROM...
EDIT 2: Just download the file, and xor it, take out the update.zip and look into the updater-script, it seems to look for a build.prop of SHA-1: cafbdcd1a799b740065d1f887439f872d18124a7. Wowo, I get such a file and it is uploaded here for anyone's interest: http://www.mediafire.com/?exb58g78egi1sqg

What date does united states get the 3.1 update from 3.0.1. Anybody know?
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk

the build prop alone does not help, it also checks for a certain patch level, which is strange for a completely new release, or it is still sort of 3.01

in fact in settings "about the tablet" you can find the version

If you have tried the update to 1.141.07, you will know that usually, only the build.prop is the file that cannot pass through the SHA-1 checking. BTW, I agree that the update to 3.1 should be a full ROM, instead of just a 'diff'.
It should be android 3.1 (copy from other forum):

Has anyone installed this update? And does it work and does root work on it?

[BUG]Holding + volume then tapping trackball

Holding + volume then tapping trackball slows the whole phone down. It doesnt APPEAR to do anything of significance, but the whole phone slows way down for a few seconds, then after about 10 seconds, the phone vibrates. As if it WAS doing something then vibrates to say "yes Ive done it".
Real pain in the ass, as i use trackball and vol Up/Down for the various emu's and quake 1/3's.... Due to the limited amount of hardware controls, i have to use them. Makes say walking (vol down) and shooting (trackball press) really hard in Quake 3 for example....
Running CM 5.0.6 (using pershoots latest 5.0.6 kernal). Not sure if the problem is in Android/Nexus One ROM/Cyanogen. Or if it even happens on other devices.... Anyone else have the same issue?
Does not seem to happen to a stock phone, no effect.
Maybe something wrong with Cyanogenmod/possibly an app in background?
Ive never noticed this before, but I just tired it on Enomther's ROM and it did the exact same thing. Werid...
I've tested this on cyanogen.. it vibrates once... and then.. after like 2 .. 3 minutes.. it vibrates twice :|

Same exact thing happens here. Running Cyanogen 5.0.6 with the latest Pershoot kernel @ 1.13ghz
What shows up when you do a logcat?
If it's slowing down then something must be happening and that will show you exactly what's goin on.
oh, and this doesn't happen on NexDESIRE v1.2.
edit: also, yay! 1000th post
weird, this is the logcat:

edit: btw: shouldn't this be in the developers board?
this is wierd first time i noticed this
Well i wasnt sure if this was happening globally or what, but if something is wrong across the board, maybe it should be in the development bored....
Maybe its a debugging feature that wasn't removed before final release?
I tried this out on CM 5.0.7 Test 1 using Pershoot's latest OC/UV kernel for 5.0.7... and yeah, it does vibrate, but my phone does not slow down... and my logcat is quite different... I've highlighted the lines outputted when the phone vibrates... it's quite strange... first time it vibrates once when the PCM playback apparently enter standby mode... and then it does something with the radio and radio log (maybe it's just a signal strength change in my area which is frequent, but it outputted this happened everytime i tried this)... and finally when it dumps the current state, it vibrates twice... I find the behaviour quite strange

5.0.7 does indeed seem to be quite different....
Thanks to ciwrl for this one:
This is not a bug. Ironically, this is the BUG COLLECTOR. Check your SD cards for a bugreport folder containing text files with bug reports. Not sure what info it collects though...
Ahh thought it would have been for debugging purposes. Is it possible to turn it off? Or does such a thing require recompiling cMod (which would not be fun )

Its not just in CM, its actually part of Android...
(for example, on the Magic, the same can be accomplished with Menu+Back, and on the g1 its Menu+Left_shift)
So to do so, you'd have to recompile android from source.
:| What a nightmare that would be for me....
Informal request: Can we change the key combo manually in new CM/disable it entirely?
Ie, would such a thing be difficult for CM to incorporate? Or just out of the question to trivial....?

Took a look at the text file.
WOW, its huge.
If you have an issue with your SD card or it was in use, then you will see a lag while the file is written.
Mine took very little time to process and vibrate twice once complete.
Ive got a Class 6 16GB MicroSD, best i could get via (online)retail in Australia....
Each of my bug reports are 3.8MB or so. Seems to dump an awful lot of intofrmation. Makes its very laggy for a short period, then a little laggy for a lenthy period, then double viberates....

[Help-Dev] GT-P1000L Kernel Dev for cm7/modaco

Hi all.
First I wan't to apologize for english erros ok ?
I'm trying to compile a P1000L kernel for latin tabs but no success at all.
I have tried some combinations of kernel sources like:
cm7 kernel with techomancer initramfs and this is the best combination of pieces until now. I'll explain later.
Tried too Samsung Euro Kernel with Latin Kernel merged and techomancer initramfs and no success too.
tried extracting initramfs from modaco's kernel and again no success.
in first attempt the tab stuck on galaxy tab logo but I can access ADB and get logcat message.
second and third combinations the tab stucks on galaxytab rom but I can't access the tab.
all combinations using cm7_defconfig to build.
If I try Cm7 with all files, it boots but the touch drivers are different and I can't use.
the logcat message is:
Code:

we have to discover a way to run a minimal kernel for p1000L/N.
I don't know so much to know what am I doing wrong ;o(
You should move this discussion thread to the "development" section of the forum.
I'm also trying various initramfs ramdiscs with the "Update1" open source kernel code from Samsung, but my Tab boot-loops. I can't get in recovery or connect via adb, so I can't read the logcat...

[Q] Server error - Google Play Store

Hi,
I've installed "[ROM][ICS] |March 19| Energy ICS CM9" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528024
Everything works perfect, except Google Pay Store, which gives "Server error".
I tried:
- Clear data
- Force Stop and run
- Reboot device
- Install gapps (http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-ics-20120224-signed.zip)
- Reinstall ROM
Still "Server error". While all other applications work perfectly.
"Google Play Store" app version: 3.4.7
Android version: 4.0.3
Can anyone help me?
Thanks
PS: I've tried to post in Energy ROM's thread, but seems like it is closed for noobs like me.
And yes, I searched for this issue and found handful of similar questions, but in other device's forums and without any answers.
EDIT: After some struggle I found out that Google Play Store does not work on any ROM. Please read my posts below.
--
Now I installed "[ROM] MIUI.US 2.1.20" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424434)
Here Android version is 2.3.7
But it has the same problem(!): "Server error" when starting Google Play Store.
"Market" app version: 3.3.11
I begin to doubt that Google really had problems with their app-store
But, of course not. Web site works.
And "Play Store" app on my phone (HTC Wildfire with CM7) works.
App version: 3.4.7
Android version: 2.3.3
Gone back to my last ROM: "[ROM] CM7 Barebones" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1475054)
Just restored from backup.
"Play Store" works (as it worked before):
App version: 3.4.7
Android version: 2.3.4
Completely confused. Don't have any idea what is happening.
Is there any log that I can look at?
--
Play Store cant connect for me either. I liked market the way it was...
Play store is running fine on my Kindle Fire using ICS. Try to delete your account for Play Store and create a new one.

Tried two more ROMs "MIUI.us 4.0.3 ALPHA" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488930) and "AOKP ALPHA2" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528755).
Both are ICS.
And both had the same problem "Server error" !
(AOKP does not include Google Apps, so I installed gapps manually)

Hi,
What ROM are you using? What version of Google Play Store do you have?
I tried removing account from "Accounts and sync" in settings and registering it again.
I tried registering another existing account.
I tried creating new Google account (although it is not really an option, cause I cant change my Google account for this).
All with no success! But Gmail app worked fine with all this accounts.
--
Now I'm going to install fresh "CM7 Barebones", not one from my last backup.
Let's see if all fresh installations get "Server error", or just all except Barebones.
.
.
.
I did that, and I have "Server error" again! Now on CM7 Barebones too!
Great, it means I am doing something terribly wrong when flashing the ROMs.
BTW, before each installation I clear cache, dalvik-cache, system and make factory reset. Before first two installations I also wiped SD-Card and SD-Card Ext. And after each installation I also clear cache and dalvik-cache.
Some helpful advice would be very appreciated.

Wuhuu! I've found out how to view logs from my device: `adb logcat`. And here is what I found:
Code:
D/Volley ( 1860): [13] BasicNetwork.logSlowRequests: HTTP response for request=<[ ] [url]https://android.clients.google.com/vending/api/ApiRequest[/url] NORMAL 71 GetMarketMetadataRequestProto> [lifetime=7115], [size=141], [rc=404], [retryCount=0]
E/Volley ( 1860): [13] BasicNetwork.performRequest: Unexpected response code 404 for [url]https://android.clients.google.com/vending/api/ApiRequest[/url]
D/Finsky ( 1860): [1] 2.onErrorResponse: Metadata failed: com.android.volley.toolbox.ServerError
D/Volley ( 1860): [1] Request.finish: 7118 ms: [ ] [url]https://android.clients.google.com/vending/api/ApiRequest[/url] NORMAL 71 GetMarketMetadataRequestProto
Now I know where it is sending request and that it gets 404. And that is treated as server error.
BTW, I get this log from CM7 Barebones, that I installed last.
Now I'll check with working CM7 backup and check the differences.

E/Omap4ALSA( 1503): called drain&close
It looks absolutely different. May be when running for the first time, it launches some different actions, which are the ones who fail. This could explain why all the new installations have problem with Google Play Store.
One more observation. When I tried to remove my account from this (working) system. It Said I cannot remove it unless I make factory reset.
Non of the newly installed ROM-s have said something like that, including the same CM7 Barebones ROM (but freshly installed).
--
One more test:
I've added new Google account into the "working" CM7. And switched Play Store to that new account.
And got "Server error" !
When trying to switch back to old account, I still get "Server error".
So, it seems that first-time initialization of Play Store (which I suppose must link Google account to the particular device), DOES NOT WORK on any ROM installation.
@ammubarak
You said that Play Store worked for you. Can you please do the above action (switch store to a new account) and check if it will work?
But please be sure to take a backup before, cause probably you will have problems after that.
Thanks,

Hi,
When did you install CM9 RELOADED? Yesterday? Today? Or you had it for a while?
Can you try adding new Google account and then switching Google Play Store to that new account?
CAUTION: Take a backup before that!

I made it so I've been on it for weeks. I have 3 g accounts and all of them work in Google play.. hope this helps. But you can try my rom if you want to see if this fixes the issue... it did for some of my testers

Yes I would like to try it.
Where can I download it?
EDIT: OK, sorry, I found it already. I will flash it and write about results.
Hi all,
I have no idea but the problem solved itself in few days.
May be Google indeed had some problems with their services?
Too bad I cannot find the reason. But now I'm happy with my new Kindle Fire with ICS!

Date and time fix worked for me
My son has an og Motorola Droid A855 and I was constantly running into an issue with the Play store not loading. Web browsing worked fine but no play store and no sync. I also noticed that the time was stopped and incorrect. I had to recover the phone every time to get the play store to work.
This last time, I went into Time and Date settings -> Unchecked Automatic -> manually set time -> Rechecked Automatic
Before I could even exit the screen to try again, the automatic update for an app installed on the phone started running. I was able to connect to the Play Store and everything is back to normal.

I've found workarounds to fix this by messing with package.xml files, but then on the next nightly, I'll have to do that all over again.
I'm on Nexus 5 (hammerhead).

Hmm, that's usually included in gapps so should be an update not a raw install... I'll see if it's not included in PA's mini gapps.
Which gapps variant are you using? Most of the Omni team are using PA gapps. (need to document this better...) If you're having this issue with PA Gapps, then I wonder if it might be related to some of the signature issues that have been breaking OmniSwitch too.
Please file a bugreport in JIRA on this with more detail.

Damn, I used slim gapps.
I'll do a TiB and reinstall with pa gapps.
It's what I had on my phone's sd, I should have used pa gapps.
Do you still want me to file a bug?
