Hello, I've installed the Virtuous Galaxy rom on my Iconia and have now encountered a strange (possible) bug.
When I wake my tablet up, I can see that tthere's no Wireless connection. So I go into Settings to make sure the wireless is connecting, then my screen goes black and the flashing ANDROID appears. It's there for a few seconds only and then I'm back to the lock screen with no wireless.
I left the tablet alone to see what would happen and it just cycles through the lock screen & 'reboot'. I can't connect to wireless to download Ti Backup so I'm guessing a full Wipe & re-flash is in order.
Does anybody have some kind of idea as to what could be happening??
Please don't tell me i have to re-flash, my boyfriend just clocked Cut the Rope!!

What's clocked mean ? And are you on the latest
Kernel

This is not a problem with the galaxy rom as I was experiencing the same issue on the early release 3.1. I fixed mine by disconnecting from the wireless network (must be quick to access settings and disconnect before the tab reboots) then forget the network and power cycle your router..you should then be able to reconnect without the random reboots. Hope this helps

This is not an issue with the galaxy rom. Check your wifi settings as mine is set to always on. Also what kernel are you using as the random reboot issue was solved from unity v3. Sounds like a bad flash to be honest. Always wipe cache and dalvik cache when flashing the rom.

If the kernel I'm using is wrong, what kernel *should* I be using? I've never had to fiddle around with kernels before.

This worked like a charm; thanks!
Can anybody tell me what kernel I should be using?
And is there a decent reason to upgrade from Virtuous 1.0.1 to 1.0.2?

Honestly take a look at the rest of the galaxy thread it will give you a indication of what problems to expect.

I'm not really experiencing any problems as such now that I know how to deal with the weird WiFi thing.
What I'm interested in now is the kernel.

Ok so wether i use wifi tethering or a usb based one like easytether or pdanet, everytime the screen goes black my internet speed drops to slow as ball hair... the minute i turn the screen back on and unlock the phone im back to full speed.

My internet speeds are actually faster tethering than on my phone.

you know it's funny....
For some reason on my phone, my friends vibrant, and even a few droids and a fascinate i rooted and put custom roms on... none had any programs on them.... which i thought was weird?
I thought maybe it was cuz everytime i flash a new rom i always do a data wipe and figured that was why, but then after upgrading my buddies bionix 1.2.1 to 1.3.1, he still had no apps installed...
Maybe you could shed some light on something i'm probably doing wrong?
its not an app, it's built in to the rom itself. Go to settings, then wireless network, then tethering and check it and your done. I think you need to have the samsung drivers installed which I'm sure you have if you have ever had to Odin.
Yea actually i noticed it yest when i got home but ill have the internet back next week. Just moved to a new place so ive been stealing wifi lol! Or tethering

If you're using any kind of battery saving app your phone may be turning off 3G when the screen shuts off.
I got my Vibrant rooted and flashed for over a year now (?) and i'm currently running TeamWhiskey Bionic NextGen 2 w/ Overstock, i know a little be old but i like this Rom, anyway my problem is that everytime i connect my phone to charge, especially overnight, i have to manually turn the screen off otherwise stay on in the lowest dim, now if is the screen is off and i get a message or a call the screen will stay on and it wont turn off by itself, i keep my phone on silent overnight, nobody is messing with my sleep , and sometimes when i woke up my screen is on...this only happen when the phone is charging...any ideas?

Last week when the Onavo data monitor app appeared prominently placed on the market home screen I gave it a try.
Unfortunately it created a very annoying bug on my phone running JVU and Semaphore 2.5:
whenever my phone looses it's wifi connection for any reason it will not recognize and connect to available wifi anymore even if placed directly near the router with full signal strength!
The only way to get it connected again is switching wifi off and then on again...
I already uninstalled the app and did a factory reset but nothing changed. Probably it messed up some system files that don't get touched during factory reset.
As I'm in vacation now and don't have my data cable with me to flash a fresh firmware, is there any way to resolve this issue in other means?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Nobody here with any idea how to resolve this? It's really annoying as even battery consumption goes up very much when the phone looses wifi and auto connects to 3g.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I have no idea about your problem. I also have just installed Onavo on JVU firmware for a couple days, but everything is still ok....
So, I'm thinking the cause is from your router!! Why don't you try another wifi network?
Good luck!! ^^
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Thanks for your answer! It doesn't depend on my router. As I said I'm in vacation right now and therefor using many different available hotspots, it happens on all of them... :-(

Any issues with battery drain and onavo? Cause it was sucking mine dry!! I thought it was semaphore's fault (i'm on icssgs 4.2) until i figure it out and uninstalled it. Now it is Almost as prior installing onavo. I have a feeling that it left some garbage behind though.
It definitely left some garbage behind and this thread is about to find out how to get rid of it.
Battery drain was and unfortunately still is very high on my device thanks to the non desired 3g connection instead of wifi...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Try to flash a new kernel again. It may help you updating some files that control wifi.
I used onavo for couple of days, battery drains. Its functions already in ICS roms, Less but good.

Here is how to to enable gsm voice calling for GT-p7500 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31254809. Thanks for tomula for giving up the solution and for the op who created the zips
To my mind the tab 8.9 has gsm calling enabled by default.
www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_tab_8_9_p7300-3891.php
While on tab 10.1 not
www.gsmarena.com/samsung_p7500_galaxy_tab_10_1_3g-3892.php
Please note the statement on the top of the pages of gsmarena.
Really I do not recognize why Samsung did that, is it the ipad imitation issue.?
What bothers me more is why not a single developer could port it to the p7500 though it has apparently the same hardware as the p7300?

Both tabs 8.9 and 10.1. Was able to make voicecalls (the prerelease versions ) but samsung removed this feature on the retail units. So the problem exists also in 8.9 not only us. But gsmarena forgot to update their info

Screen turning off cancels call.
Pretty amazing that i'm able to make phone calls using my HUGE 10 inch android tablet.
But is anyone having this bug where during a call, when the screen turns itself off (due to inactivity) all sounds are muted and the person of the other end can't hear u? I've turn off the "Auto screen off during calls" setting, but this still happens.

I've tried Tomula's description too, using pershoot's CM9 build. I patched my framework-res.apk respectively, flashed the modem. I was able to make a phone call, BUT:
1. I couldn't hang up. No idea why, but the big red hang-up button just didn't do anything.
2. I couldn't call the tablet's phone no. It would ring on the calling phone, but nothing happened on the tablet.
3. Same screen-off symptoms.
I tried both modems (Smithsonian's and Tomula's), but there was no real difference. I did notice for both of them that the battery would drain quicker for some reason. Didn't investigate that yet. Went back to the p7500 radio, and battery drain's back to normal.
I think we might be well on our way to finally get phone calling, but we're not quite there yet.

I just used Mobile Odin to flash the modem.tar.md5 from the stock ICS
Edit: Little update. I retried the whole thing again, using the XXLQ3 modem. After installing the modem, i booted the tablet without the SIM inserted, and after boot inserted the card again, turned flight mode on and off, and call-in now works as well. so basic phone functionality does indeed work. Don't have a BT headset handy right now, but will try that as well as soon as i can. I'll keep an eye on the battery drain again.
Edit2: Well, it's weird. I've gone home earlier, and guess what stopped working... phone call inbound doesn't ring/activate the phone app. Phone call outbound cannot be hung up. The only difference to the working state was a different location (ie. different GSM cell) and wifi network. Rebooting/Reinserting SIM etc didn't have any effect. So, basically the phone stuff can work, but its not reliable at all.

I had the issue.. 32gb version in the US with the sep build. I actually had it prior to to 4.2.1. I ended up going into advanced properties and changing wifi to always on. Drains battery, but fewer need to turn wifi off and back on.

No wifi internet / e-mail / notifications after 4.2.1
I am having a similar issue. Stock Nexus 7, never rooted, installed the 4.2.1 update when it was pushed. Since then I can connect to wifi connections but there is no internet access. While the icon in the upper right has small flashing arrow like data is being sent back and forth, the icon remains gray and no internet-requiring services on the tablet work. I've tried everything that I (and Google Play and Asus support) could think of with no luck.
The only thing they could come up with at the end was to restore the tablet to factory settings. Unfortunately I have application data that I need to back up that I can't access by accessing the internal storage using my laptop (I'm stock, remember?).
So I'm between a rock and a hard place here. Anyone have any suggestions? It was very frustrating when the Asus representative suggested I use the built-in backup and restore feature:
Me: "That requires internet access to work right?
Asus representative: "Oh....right..."
My Wi-Fi on both my Nexus 7's is very slow. They stay connected fine but I'm getting about 150kbps download speeds. I factory reset one of them to no prevail. Anyone have any insight on this or heard of others with this issue? All my other devices work fine on the same Wi-Fi connection and I tried turning everything else off so just the Nexi where connected to see if the speeds are faster, but they aren't. I'm stock on both devices and both are the 16gb version, one older than the other.

Or use Static IPs. That solved it for me. I had to ask my company to provide a reservation for my MAC Address. It's like back in the 90s when Wifi started coming out using the BellLabs/Lucent chipset.
