I'm confused with all I have read till now. Will my MS2, bought in Brazil, work in any 3g network in US? My MS2 supports 850/1900/2100 bandwidth. Wanna get a SIM Card for prepaid plan whith 3g connection for my 3 weeks staying in the states.
Tks

It works fine in North and Latin America. Also works in other places, but not 3G data connection (I think).

It will work with GSM carriers anywhere in the world.. not CDMA ones.
I am in Chicago (US) and a brazillian Milestone 2 works perfectly on 3G with AT&T

hey guys..quick question. My friend in Canada wants to get the NS and wants to know if it will work on the sasktel network.
Any information?
thanks
It'll work, but not on 3G, judging by what I can find.
Also, there is an NS sub-forum...
I'm currently using the Nexus One on Sasktel's 3G, so I don't see why the Nexus S wouldn't work on it as well.
There are two types of Nexus One...
I'm aware, but don't really know the difference between them. My network type is HSDPA, Sasktel recently launched their 3G+ network in all major cities/towns in Saskatchewan, so if your friend is in a major town/city shouldn't be a problem.
The difference between them is the 3G/HSDPA frequencies they support.
Your most likely using the ATT model but the ns is a t-mobile model with supports 1900mhz not 1
2100 like ATT so it will work with edge but not 3g. You will have to wait for the ATT model ns

I want to get a Nexus S for myself, the unlocked without contract one, because I would like to use it in my home country (Malaysia).
So I would like to confirm one thing before I proceed:
I saw this from BestBuy forum FAQs:
Will an unlocked Nexus S work with carriers other than T-Mobile?
Yes, but it won’t run on 3G with all carriers. Speed and power will be reduced on non-3G networks.
Is that means that even though Nexus S did support the 3G band of my home country, it won't run on the 3G network?! Means that I can't use the 3G in my home country?
Anyone have answer for this? Anyone tried buy N1 and got the 3G working in country outside US?
gotta be 1700/2100 MHz i believe
Wont' work. Malaysia uses 2100mhz band for 3G.
The Nexus S on T-Mobile uses BOTH 1700/2100mhz AT THE SAME TIME for 3G.
It will work fine since the 3G band in Malaysia is 2100MHz and the Nexus S supports those bands.
I had the Nexus One (T-Mobile Version) in Thailand and it worked perfectly fine on 2100MHz 3G. My N900 worked as well.
Don't listen to nxt or slowz3r they have no idea of what they are talking about.

You wont have a problem with most 3g phones in Malaysia - most of the rest of the world uses standard frequencies and the nexus s and nexus 1 work just fine.
If a phone works in Europe then it'll be fine in malaysia, and indeed most of the rest of the world.
Most of the noise on here is from people in the US where there are some weird frequencies being used... you can only use 3g on T-Mobile there -at+t uses different frequencies, and sprint and Verizon use a completely different technology.
Thank you for all the useful replies!
Got the answer. Thread Closed.
Hi guys just wondering if I bought a atrix and used it in UK will I get 3g internet?
I would also like to know this question because Voda australia is getting a 850MHz upgrade so the atrix will work but I'm not sure about other spectrums.
Find out what Vodas 3G bands are and compare. Google it up. No need for this thread.
Yes the atrix supports worldwide 3g. The only GSM 3G it won't do is t mobile in the us.

I went into Telecom today to get a SIM card, and the rep said that my phone (After putting the IMEI into her computer) won't work outside major service areas (Cities; I live in a rural area.) because it has some chip inside it to make it not work properly. Does anyone know anything about this? Also, I was convinced that the radio was incapable of Vodafone 3g. But guess what? it miraculously started working on VF HSPA and 3G. But soon after leaving town it dropped to GSM, as usual. Knowing that it is capable of Vodafone 3g, it should be able to get as good service as my GT540 did, right? Well it soon dropped on the way home. I scanned for networks and at one point it connected with full bars, but only for a second. It dropped before connecting data, and I went back into the parent menu. The 'Use only 2g networks' box was checked, which I had unchecked earlier. So I unchecked it and tried again. The box checked itself yet again. Everytime I'm in signal, use only 2g networks checks itself, reducing me to poor, constantly dropping GSM. I seriously need help with this one, guys. How can I disable this goddamned demon chip, and why is it in there? What is it and what does it do? All info appreciated. Thanks.
Bump. Anyone know anything at all?

EU or TMUS?
EU does not have any such restriction.
However for a 3G or better service, it needs the reception - so if your service provider has a mainly built up area hspda/3G service and a mainly 2G rural service it not hard to figure it out.
google the coverage by post code/Zip for you provider and see
T9193 is the Telstra hd2, for Australia. I live in New Zealand, and I already know vodafone has no coverage whatsoever over my.house.

Bump. Wtf is up with this?

It is like this, the T-Mobile HD2 can only get 3G with the T-Mobile network because of the internal hardware can only use the bands/frequencies that the T-Mobile network or a network that uses the same bands/frequencies T-Mobile uses for 3G. The same is true for your TelstraT9193 HD2 it can only use the 3G from Telstra's network or a network that uses the same bands/frequencies that Telstra uses. You can get Edge/GSM bit no 3G with other carriers. If you lived in the US you could use AT&T to get 3G using your Telstra T9193 HD2 as they use the same bands/frequencies as the Telstra network, but I know of no other major carrier that uses the same as Telstra. Sorry man but it is a hardware thing.
It's been working on 3g multiple times. And it is a hardware issue; it has the right bands, so the only explaination could be this '2g service chip' that the clerk mentioned.

There's no miracle chip, or pixie dust inside. It's simple. Voda NZ uses 3g 2100 in urban 900 elsewhere BUT, their rural (900) coverage is poor and it falls back to voda's old GSM 2G constantly. Telecom XT uses an all 3G wcdma (2100) urban (850) rural network, with excellent rural 850 coverage.
If you use a telstra hd2 you will only get vodafone 3g in urban areas and 2G GSM elsewhere, however; with Telecom xt you have good 3g coverage everywhere. With tmous (2100/1700), your choice is 2degrees or voda for 3g urban 2100 and 2g GSM rural. Xt will give you 3g coverage in urban areas but no coverage at all out of town as the 1700 band is not used in new Zealand. International hd2 is in the same boat with xt. But, it can use 900 vodafone band so you can get extended 3g infill coverage with vodafone, with fall back to legacy 2g voda network.

It's quite simple, your telecom only offers 900/2100mhz 3G while the T9193 supports 850/2100mhz 3G. So guess what happen when you're in a 900mhz area? DING DING!! No 3G service for you because your T9193 doesn't support that band.
Oh, they use didderet bands for rural and urban coverage? That explains it lol. Thanks for the help, I was kinda confused.

I saw Verizon Xoom teardown and it have gsm chip for it LTE.
Could it possible to use gsm 3g on Verizon Xoom by using Uk 3g rom or voice versa?
NO, the sim slot is for their LTE network.
Actually I do believe the xoom can work on GSM. I just got mine and they show it as a global device. And I only know of a few countries who use cdma.

You're right, my friend.
I live in Brazil and here 3g network is GSM. furthermore, Brazilian Xoom, model MZ605, is the only one that works on any type of 3g network.
Unfortunately, we don`t have HC3.1 yet. And I flashed a Verizon 3G image on my Xoom and lose my 3g connectivity. Now, I`m trying to identify if there is any other Xoom model that works on 3g GSM network, so I'll be able do reflash my Xoom to get back my connectivity.
