My Dear Members,
I have this problem with my HTC Desire Hd.For an unknown reason i downloaded 3 programs from Htc Hub but i cannot see them despite the fact i install after downloading them and can even see them when i check Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All but i just cannot see and run them.
2. So also with the SPB Mobile Shell 3D, I purchase and am using this wonderful application but it just disappears from within the phone applications. I cannot even see it among HOME SWITCHER and neither can i select it in spite the fact it is listed among all my applications. I contacted SPB but they suggested i use HOME SWITCHER and select it among those listed but when i did and cannot see it they just abandoned my emails. Please help.

Ok I had gotten board with the lack of wifi and decent web browser on the Treo 650 that I decided to make the move to the 8125. I knew about the speed difference and some of the other issues discussed in these forums because I researched the device for months before making the move. Therefore I wont say much about that. Unfortunately I have a few issues that I can't seem to find answers for in this forum and I was hoping other users out there could help.
1. Is there any way of making the navigation pad useful? I cant access anything on the taskbar and it would be great if I could. I installed magic button so I can close apps and switch back to home when I want. Furthermore there is almost no documentation on how to use the nav pad. All application instructions say tap the icon. It's very convenient to have one handed use. for example i have yet to figure out how to get back to the location bar in Pocket IE so I can enter a url without having to tap the screen.
2. Is it common that some applications just freak out when you switch to landscape mode (scroll bars not working and such)?
3. As mentioned I installed magic button but is there an application that will pop up a list of running tasks so I can switch between them easily with the navigation pad.
4. Backup. I may be very wrong on this but I fear that active sync does not actually backup my entire device like palm does. Could someone clear this up and if I'm correct is there a way for active sync to do this. I have more programs on this device than what is on my add/remove prog screen.
5. Notification reminders. I see a feature to have the led for a period of time but it would be nicer if it could be set to play its sound also. Like the pagers of old.
6. Notification of lost service. This phone never tells me I have no cell service. Last thing I want is battery draining searching or worse assuming I have service and miss all calls.
If anyone could provide some info on the above it would be a great help. i have already found many other programs that make up for the lacking features. Below is a list of what I have installed please make any suggestions you think would be helpful.
1. AnthaVPN - easiest and fastest to install
2. TN520 by mochasoft
3. Pocket Putty SSH client
4. Eyes On Call - Callfilter like program with many features still limited but the developer is very quick in implementing suggestions.
5. Info sharp - same developer as above but this provides sms capabilities that are very impressive. He almost has chat style sms with the way this program works.
6. OMAPclocker - for clocking to 220. I actually see the difference.
7. IM+ - Sametime/AOL instant messenger client.
8. Info apps I have Metro, Ereader, Bdicty, VadeMecum
9. TCPMP
10. Registry Wizard
11. Calc98 - the built in calc app is a joke.
12. Xpressmail - dont care what anyone says this app does what it says it will do. Pushes email to your phone.
Thank You
- Richard
After searching both here and on google I have not found anything so I'm hoping some of you may be able to help me out with two minor annoyances.
I have noticed that several applications can run without showing up in the task manger (both dutty and the regular one).
Is there a way to see and/or close these applications?
I have WorldMate installed and even though I have disabled auto updates it still connects. So my second question is this:
Is there a way to see what applications are using a data connection (preferably the exact executable)?
Thanks in advance!
I think the standard HTC one (included with the phone) is able to shut down more, but l'm not sure about your problems.
If you have a search through the apps section then i think I've seen something in there that tells you what is using your data (data monitor of some sort?)
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Owen.
in standard task manager click menu view processes to see lots more of what is running.
So one of the first apps that I put on my Tab when I got it was AppBrain. After syncing my apps with the server I wanted to use their wallpaper gallery with the "Send to phone" feature as it works great with my HTC Desire. I find a wallpaper I like and click on "Set Wallpaper". My Desire ens up getting the wallpaper and not the Tab. After some googling and searching I found out that in order to control what device gets the wallpaper you need to change one little thing:
1 - Log into AppBrain website (www.appbrain.com)
2 - Click on "Settings" in top right corner by your user name
3 - Change default install device
4 - Change again for what ever device you want to push apps/wallpaper to
Once I made that change I was able to push new wallpapers to my Tab. I wrote this in case other were wondering why they could not send the wallpaper to a certain device if they owned more than one Android device. One note to make is that this change also changes what device the app goes to when you do a "Web Install". This is not specifically for the Tab but for anyone who has multiple Android devices.

AppBrain is great ! The service connects to the Gmail account via the safe OAuth method. It adds a nice layer of suggestions and ratings on top of the Market, which it complements very well indeed. Although I use Titanium Backup for the eventuality of a recovery, it's reassuring to know that AppBrain is there to remind me of all my apps, free or purchased.
I recently installed a virtual desktop application called Dexpot. Since then, I have noticed several unnamed applications show up in the Alt+Tab switcher. Most of them link to a metro settings page. One goes to search, another is called 'Immersive Background', and another called 'snapped desktop'.
So I uninstalled Dexpot and rebooted, but the apps are still there. I believe these apps are always running but are hidden from the regular Alt+Tab menu, and that Dexpot has messed up Z-orders or something. Here's a photo (Can't take screenshots with the switcher on) : http://imgur.com/wn9jZ
I searched for a while on Google, and a couple of people also have the same problem while alt+tabbing out of a game and such. No solutions thus far. Can anybody suggest a workaround, short of re-installing windows?
Windows 8 Pro.

I just noticed this, too.
Can't figure out why though
I haven't installed any apps, just started happening for some reason.
http://www.ntwind.com/software/vistaswitcher.html
This replaces the standard alt-tab in Windows and you can add exceptions. I personally use this and hide all metro apps, because Win-Tab exclusively switches between metro apps... It just makes sense to me that alt-tab should exclusively switch between desktop apps.
Thanks for the link to Vistaswitcher. It was useful. A few more niglles came up, though, and I did a refrresh. Stuff works fine now.
Am thinking about using a Note 4 for Audio and Video only (no phone or Internet).
Hope someone else has tried this and has some suggestions concerning reducing Android OS to minimum.
Also instead of reducing the Android OS if it would be better to use a 3rd party ROM?

If you're not interested in internet, yet want reliable audio and video, maybe try old kk roms that are optimized or some lollipop aosp roms. That way the software is at its lightest.
QuoPrimum Thanks for the tips!
Forgot to add that I am new to Android but have been using Windows for a while.
For Windows there are a number of ways to remove unnecessary parts
1. preformed like Micro XP v0.82
2. make your own using nLite
Anything like this for Android?
Also have been searching for a description what each Android file does like Black Viper does for Windows. Windows Services Information http://www.blackviper.com/windows-services/
Hope someone knows about an Android (or even Linux) info similar to this.

You could disable/freeze apps with titanium backup or using adb.
QuoPrimum Thanks for the suggestion "You could disable/freeze apps with titanium backup or using adb."
Checked "Titanium Backup User’s Guide" https://www.titaniumtrack.com/kb/titanium-backup-kb/titanium-backup-user-guide.html Was especially interested in 7. Manage Applications List of apps Tapping the “Backup/Restore” button brings you to the application list – or rather the list of available “items”. Here you can see which applications and settings are available on your phone, and what has already been backed up (the symbols to the right tell you the latter – hit your phones menu button and select “Legend” for details on what they mean). Tapping an application brings up a popup from which you can select actions to be taken with the selected item: You can e.g. run an application, back it up, restore it (or its settings). You also may also decide to un-install the application – even if it is a system app! But with the latter, you should be very careful: Remove the wrong thing, and your phone may start malfunctioning. Which is why you should first try whether it’s safe to remove that system application. This can be done by “freezing” it.
Clarification: What type of information is available when select legend.
Also do you know of a beginners guide for Android OS services?

I don't know of any specific guides, but if you look around xda, there should be a few debloating guides for roms.
