[Q] Cant get 3.1 - Eee Pad Transformer General

24 hours with the tab...
I am new to the tab and i am not going to root yet. I want to use it as ASUS intends it to be, for right now.
Anyways, it came 3.0.1, and i when i ask it to update it tells me no new updates are available. Battery is fully charged, wifi signal is great.
Anything else i can do?
PS- I am saving a review until i get the update, but typing this message was at best frustrating.
Cheers!

Im trying to figure this out as well. Im planning on calling Asus today and ask for help I'll share how to do it as soon ask figure it out

Download the update manually from the Asus website, save it in your TF's internal memory, then try going to the update page and it should detect the file and allow you to install it. If it doesn't come up straightaway try rebooting your TF and try the update page again.

Something isn't right because your tablet should update automatically once it gets a connection.

I think you an install the update manually.
1)Download the firmware from Asus, unzip it and put the contents for the ASUS/Updates/ folder on the root directory of the external SD card. Rename it to EP101_SDUPDATE.zip
2) Boot into recovery - hold volume down, press power button. Your TF will turn on and say it's going to blow up in 5 secs. Press volume up within 5 secs. Don't delay because you could wipe your data if you press volume up too late.
3) get some popcorn and watch the magic happen. Afterwards, it will reboot, you'll see a progress bar to indicate that it is flashing. Then it should boot into sweet honeycomb.
4) Delete or rename the EP101_SDUPDATE.zip for something else, or else it will flash every time you go to stock recovery.
Edit: I think the firmware has to match your current build, i.E., US, TW, WW. Check your build info to be sure.

EDIT EDIT
This should be added to the STICKIY as a way to update!!

Agreed. I misunderstood the directions at first - my fault for being a noob. I ended up using the full SD slot on my dock, but the math was the same.

Manually install the OTA update (2.1-update1) (stock/non-rooted)

Dont see this posted before...Mods please merge with any existing thread as you see fit.
If youre like me and want to install the update RIGHT NOW, then there are instructions at:

[link removed. please follow the original link above]
Then save on to your sd card, not in any folders, and rename it update.zip (windows users just rename it update, the .zip will come by itself)
1) Turn off your phone.
2) Turn on by holding down Power and the Trackball
3)Select Bootloader (Selection instructions on the top of screen)
4)Select recovery
5)An Android-Bot will come standing next to an open box

Only thing differnet was that on step 5, I got the android robot standing next to an "Exclamation mark in a triangle" (caution) icon. Simply pressed Power and Volume Up and got the option to install the update. click on update.zip. The phone will restart once and you will see the android outside a box, dont press anything.
Installed fine.]
Heres a thread in the Dev section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627533
Test results:
-Found that the total internal (app) memory is still 196MB and RAM is still 212MB, makes sense as the kernel is still .29, Have to wait for the next update I guess.
-No problems with any existing apps. (I did an Astro backup earlier anyway). Phone works fine too. (ATT EDGE)
-Multi touch works fine in the Maps app
-Looks like the Launcher2 FC bug is fixed, I could not reproduce the bug. (does not mean I'm leaving Home++ though )
Code:
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 32.24.00.22U_4.03.00.21_2
Kernel Version: 2.6.29.01117-g4bc62c2
Build Number: ERE27
Thank You! Worked perfectly!
Worked great, thanks a lot! Does anyone know where to find the full changelog of this update? I can't seem to find one for the life of me. :s Thanks.
I didn't find one either.
Signature Verification Failed
I have a rooted Nexus One but no custom ROM installed on it. I pushed the Cyanogen Browser to gain Multi-Touch before the update came out. I downloaded the correct file and changed the name to update.zip on the top level of my SD card. I go into the booloader, then go to recovery, i get the android standing next to the exclamation mark and hit the buttom combination required. I select the update through SD card option and it starts then gives me a "signature verification failed" message. Any clue as to what I could do to apply the update?

Make myTouch 32b Legal Up To Latest 1.6 DMD64

This is a Step-by-Step fool proof guide to getting your T-Mobile myTouch 3g (32b) back to factory firmware with the ability to once again receive all official T-Mobile OTA (Over-The-Air) Updates.
*Note* There are two files named updated.zip that are both needed. We will keep them seperated by two folders needed at two totally different steps during installattion. The fisrt gets us back to 1.6 and the other gets us the newer radios for1.6...and Yes it works. Files are official....Nay-Sayers! LOL
*Note*
Optional SD Card Format
From the settings menu of the phone, Scroll down to "SD Card & phone storage." Press "Unmount SD Card." Next press "Format SD card." If you go this route you will have to reinstall all media you had on the SD Card, i.e. pics, music...etc
STEP 1
Create a Folder named ANDROID on the desktop. In that create 3 sub-folders. Name the 3 sub-folders in this order: Cupcake, Donut Update 1, Donut Update 2
STEP 2
You need a copy of SAPPIMG.img. It puts the phone back to the "Cupcake" or 1.5 Firmware Version.
Download it from:
http://www.mediafire.com/?yezotmjyuww
Save it in the Cupcake folder you just created.
STEP 3
Plug your phone into your PC and click "USB Connected" on the Notification Tab, then mount image. Your PC can now read and write to your SD Card. Find your downloaded copy of SAPPING.img and copy it to your SD Card. Unmount, unplug and power off your phone.
STEP 4
Reboot phone into boot mode by holding down volume down key while pressing the power key. It should boot into HBOOT and automatically run the SAPPIMG.img you just copied onto the SD card Click. Follow the onscreen instructions to initiate the automated update. Use trackball to accept.
If it did not boot to HBOOT, read the screen and do what it says to "Reboot to HBOOT." From there everything else should once again be automated. Follow the onscreen instructions to initiate the automated update. Use trackball to accept. Once the update is done and it says "Installation Complete," reboot by pressing Home and Back buttons together.
STEP 5Once rebooted, do the initial setup. Once setup is complete, plug the phone back into the PC and re-mount the SD Card. It is safe to delete the SAPPIMG.img file from the SD Card now. You can also check to make sure the Firmware Version 1.5 is correct and installed by going to Settings-> About phone.
STEP 6You need to Download the second file needed named update.zip. It gets us back to Android 1.6
Download it from:
http://www.mediafire.com/?t3zlwdzzqqx
Save it in Donut Update 1 folder. Once download is complete, copy the file update.zip to the SD Card like before. Unmount, unplug, and power off the phone.
STEP 7Reboot the phone into recovery mode by this time holding down the Home and Power buttons together this time. A picture with tirangle and phone will show press Home and Power again to get to the actual recovery screen. You now have 2 options to apply this update...either or:
*Note* Use trackball to navigate the cursor in this new menu
1. Apply update.zip from SD Card. This option will leave all user data that you previously put on the phone after the SAPPIMG install, i.e. Contacts, Apps, Settings...etc.
2. Wipe/Factory reset. This option will completely remove all user data from the phone. A clean slate if you will. If you choose this option, when the reset finishes, Make sure you do Option 1 Apply update.zip from SD Card. Once the update is done and it says "Installation Complete," reboot by pressing Home and Back buttons together.
STEP 8
Once rebooted, if you chose option 2 in the previous step you have to redo the initial setup. Plug the phone back into the PC and re-mount the SD Card. It is safe to delete the update.zip from the phone now. You can also check to make sure the Firmware Version 1.6 is correct and installed by going to Settings-> About phone.
STEP 9
You need to Download the third file needed named update.zip. It gets us back the latest radios.
Download it from:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ojnnyrjzneg
Save it in Donut Update 2 folder. Once download is complete, copy the file update.zip to the SD Card like before. Unmount, unplug, and power off the phone.
STEP 10 = Finale
Reboot the phone into recovery mode by this time holding down the Home and Power buttons together this time.
That is it!
Now you are good to go and are waitng for T-Mobile and their 2.0 or whatever other goodies they decide to throw or not to throw our way.
Didn't work for me. Step 4 did not install. Instead, it said "invalid signature"
Why was this posted? There are about a thousand other threads regarding how to 'unroot' your phone to factory defaults.

So go look at another post! Just that simple.
once you get to cupcake you can just wait a couple hours then you will get an ota update to update to doughnut and the newest radio so i dont see the point in doing all of this work when just isntall cupcake and wait
Great thread! This is much better than waiting for the ota updates!
no ota to 1.6
I have been on 1.5 for 24hrs and no ota back yo 1.6?
Then follow the steps to manually flash the updates from here that is what o did.
Technically I think the updates are only if you have internet with tmobile and can take up to 72 hours.

Never took me more than 24 hours.
Restoring data with mybackup or titanium backup can actually prevent the update from installing, so if you're not getting it, do a factory reset and don't install anything that isn't from the market until you've received your update.
Does this method also remove the Recovery?
Can I install just the stock rom but keep my recovery? If I do this, will it disable my ability to flash custom roms without re-exploiting the phone?
Thanks phate
I just did this but now I'm stuck at the green android welcome screen with no data service and I'm out of the country. Am I pretty much ****ed? Four corners trick doesn't seem to work. Tried it like a hundred times.
Well this did not work out so well.
Everything seemed to go fine. After the last step, rebooted the phone, and it came up with a picture of a box with an arrow, so I just let it sit there. Came back an hour or so later and the screen was off. No charging light or anything.
Pressed power button and nothing. Tried everything I can think of. So do you think I bricked the phone some how or did the phone just die.
Oh, Battery was fully charged, and it was plugged in while doing the downgrade from CM 6 back to stock.

If the phone refuses to boot you could always apply sappimg.nbh again and this time just let it download 1.6 ota. It only takes about a day or so.

Noob trying to flash to 2.1d

I have successfully flashed my Sprint THC hero with no problems.
My issue though is flashing the phone to 2.1d. i can't for the life of me follow these directions and I am really stumped on the process of doing a nandroid and flashing the ROM.
I downloaded the nandroid from this site but not sure where I put the directory with the files at. Can anyone break this process down into "ejpyle terminology"?
My problems are:
- where to copy the nandroid directory
- where to put the 2.1d ROM
- do i need this busybox that everyone is talking about?
Successfully flashed what? And what method.
If you mean you successfully ROOTED your Phone then huzzah, that's step one complete.
Part of the rooting process should include putting a recovery image on the phone. If you did that correctly then do this, power off the phone.hold down the home button and power it back up. In a few seconds you should boot into a recovery menu with options to do a nandroid backup/restore turn on the usb connection to move files to the phone from your pc, and flashing a zip. If you don't have this recovery menu then you need to install it.
I don't think you have downloaded a Nandroid, I think you have downloaded an "update.zip" as we so affectionitly call them around here. This is a term used from the first set of recovery tools we had, where we had to rename update files update.zip to be loaded. Thankfully the recovery software has been updated to let us store and use multiple files.
So you probable have fresh-cdma-hero-2.0d.zip downloaded.
Plug your phone into USB and set it to Mount SD Card or what ever it says in 1.5
Copy this file to the root of the sdcard. don't put it in to any folders just F:\ or whatever the drive letter is.
THEN
Unmount the sdcard or turn off the disk drive mode (Cant remember what 1.5 calls it)
THEN
Power off the phone.
Power the phone back on whilst holding the home key. When you feel the vibration (let your girl hold it if she wants ROFL) let go and it will boot into recovery.
THEN
Go to Wipe...do Factory Reset
THEN
Wipe dalvik
THEN
Go back to Flash Update from SDcard
Select the update file above and hit the home key to flash it.
The phone SHOULD install and go back to the main screen of recovery.
THEN select
Reboot
THEN
Wait a hell of a long time 10+ minutes is NOT uncommon (it has to rebuild dalvik and other stuff)
THEN
When the phone boots hit Always Allow for the memory settings app.
THEN
Setup all your google info again.....
THEN
You should be good to go
AND DEN????????
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
EDIT:
I am SURE that I left a step out above, just go with the flow and wipe everything under the wipe menu. It's laid out so a monkey can do this stuff...hence the reason I am able to.

There is no best one. The 2.1 ROMS are all very stable. Just avoid the ones that say {DEV} in the thread title because they are under development and likely have lots of stuff broken in them.
Decide what you want for yourself, beauty, speed, both? A good hint is to look for the ROM threads that have the most pages attached to them these are the ROMS that have the most discussion and help within them.

The only bricks we have seen are from people downloading GSM software or dropping a brick on their phone...that sounded funnier in my head.

Because you too seem like a decent person I will share this with you....
I followed a thread on here at the beginning of march to install a ROM and the directions (which I followed exact) bricked my phone. I spent hours reading up on this website to find out after the fact that the RUU might have a bug and some users will have issues. With that said, I decided to ask questions. This site has a lot of cleanup going on (no disrespect to anyone here as you are all VERY intelligent) and I do not think that someone as myself would be comfortable just "searching" for the answer without asking questions first with respect to the experience we have had in the past.

Nope no chance at all of that as far as I can tell.
The only bricks we have seen are from people downloading GSM software or dropping a brick on their phone...that sounded funnier in my head.

So you have gotten me curious now, where did you pick up that file at?
My only guess is that someone has posted a nandroid of their device and zipped it. Most of the Rom downloads are ROMNAME.zip....
You can always try to load it, it won't load if its not setup properly inside for a rom.
And about your going back to 1.5 to update to sprints 2.1:
IF YOU UPDATE TO SPRINTS OTA 2.1 UPDATE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ROOT AGAIN UNTIL SOMEONE FINDS ANOTHER EXPLOIT!!! WHICH COULD BE NEVER!!

when you boot into recovery, what do you see?
If you rooted correctly and put a recovery image on there there isn't anything else you have to do to enable Nandroid.

Ok, so this leads me to another question. Where is the thread that links to this download?
The reason I am worried about this file now that I see it:
It's only 942kb - WAY to small for a rom or nandroid.

Froyo 2.2 Verification failed

Im having the worst time in the world trying to get this froyo for my evo. I have it in the root of the sd card, "O:" and removed known file extensions just to make sure its update.zip and not update.zip.zip.
everything is what it should be according to every post ive looked at. Yet no matter what I do, i still get signature verification failed, installation aborted.
Any ideas?!
I could the same thing last night. But what I had to do was to update to 1.47 then go in and update it another time name the file update and that is it. And it should work.

This is how it's done.
Follow the step by step directions I copied from androidpolice below. When you get to step 8, you will most likely see the red triangle with exclamation point. Don't worry. Just hold the up volume button and press the power key. This will activate the menu where you will see "apply update.zip". Proceed with step 8. It takes care of the rest.
We’ve provided some simple instructions for installing the update:
1. Download the update file and rename it to update.zip.
Note #1: DO NOT UNZIP THIS FILE
Note #2: Make sure you didn’t rename this to update.zip.zip by accident, if your Windows is configured to not show file extensions.
2. Place in the root of your SD card (connect via USB and mount as a drive, transfer via bluetooth, download directly on the phone – pick your poison).
3. Reboot into recovery mode (hold the Volume Up button while your phone is booting).
4. You will be presented with the boot loader. The Volume Up/Down buttons navigate the menu, and the Power button selects.
Note: you may see the red exclamation (!) point at this stage. Try mashing the up/down/power buttons and wait for 10-15 seconds. The recovery should eventually come up.
5. Select Bootloader.
6. Scroll down to Recovery and select it.
7. The phone will reboot again, this time into recovery.
8. Select “apply update.zip” or “install from .zip” (depending on your recovery image).
9. The installation process will take 15-20 minutes and a few reboots.
10. Enjoy!
i can get to that point just fine, its the install that fails due to signature verification failure, i have followed all the steps to prevent any mishaps, but still cannot get past it.
I think I had the same issue with the file after I renamed it update.zip (it was hidden and already there). I renamed it but did not help.
I would recommend deleting it from the card and downloading a fresh copy of the update. Copy it to the SD card and try again.
This is the source I used and it worked.

You are probably going to need to download a different file, as a lot of the mirrors here are corrupted. If your file size is 70 something, that is corrupt. The correct file size is 80 something (sorry, I'm on my phone).
Look for a different mirror to download from.
Did everything and nothing, not even the (!) thing, everytime I scroll down to recovery it just takes me back to the main menu (bootloader) and nothing seems to work, am I doing something wrong?
yeah ive only downloaded the 84mb ones, i even had the original from HTC with no results. my evo refuses to evolve lol

well, no luck. i guess i have to wait till the 3rd
I had to remove all the excess files from my sd card root for it to finally work correctly. I think the only thing i had left on my sd card root were folders and the froyo renamed to update.zip
If you are rooted why not boot into recovery and install update from zip. Note that this option will un-root your phone in the process. There are also post on the forum with the stock Rom for non rooted phones, if you are not rooted. You can try using that file rather than the one you got. This may get u on 2.2 b4 u know it.

Same problem
Hey xcodesterox.
I had the exact same issue and even download the linked file from ckombo.
I was finally able to get it to work.
What was happening for me was, I would download the file and my Mac is set to unzip a downloaded file from Safari, I would then just zip it myself after this. This was not working so I switched to Firefox, where I do not have it set to autoextract, and therefore I did not have to re-zip. THAT time it worked.
I hope you had the same issue.
Ok so you said right now you are in rooted. You should try removing all zip files that are current on the root of your SD card. U can back it up to your pc. Then use the file/ method found in this post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740319

I had some problems workign so i did this
1.did factory reset(backup date)
2.did the ruu 1.47 update
3.copy zip file to sd (drag and drop in windows, just dont drop into esisting file and dont unzip)
4.name the file update windows will add the .zip checkby right clicking on the file going to preferances then details tab (in win7 anyway)
5.power down phone
6.reboor by holding vol down and power wait for it to read you card
7.might get a cant open cache error, didnt prevent my update
8. using vol keys nav down to recovery, hit power button to select
9.vol down to highlight the update.zip file and powr to select
i was running 1.17 firmware so i had to update from that to 1.32 then 32-47 so check your version and update accourding, is it worth it? my bat life does seem a lil better flash is smother than the flash update i ran in 2.1, and browsign does seem smother, also landscape mode works in both left and right!
Where did you found this rooted version? I have the same problem...

Acer 500a Rooted and unable to update

I have an Acer 500a I just bought off carigslist. Initially I thought it would be fine but then I realized I was inheriting someone elses problems. I hope someone may be able to help.
Within the first few hours I was noticing google Play crashed a number of times and struggled to update from Market. Somehow the update went through but now there is a system update that won't go through. I'm able to down load it and when i restart the computer to complete installation the screen goes black and says: booting recovery kernel in the corner. I then see a picture of an android and a load bar which after 2-4 seconds the android is on his back and an exclaimation mark is coming out of his belly.
My android version is 3.2
Kernel version
2.6.36.3+
Build number
Acer_a500_7.006.01_COM_GEN2
I'm pretty sure its rooted and i think that might be why its not playing nice with google market and system updates. I called the old owner and explained the problem and he just said he had it rooted and he thought he unrooted it. There is an ap called superuser in aps. (although if it were rooted would'nt I be able to uninstal some of thecrap software it comes with like GOLF HD? -- it won't let me).
The system update is for Acer_a500_7.014.01_COM_GEN2 8.88mb
My problem is all of the force closes I'm getting and the inability to update the system. Any thoughts? I don't have a usb cord to connect it to a desktop either =(
I am a bit out of practice, but...
Should be pretty simple to fix. From what I am seeing, you are running a stock rom. Just because the superuser.apk is installed on the system does not mean it is rooted, but it probably is.
Hit the market, grab "Root Checker" - simple tiny program to let you know for sure if your tab is rooted or not.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=burrows.apps.rootchecker&hl=en
From what I understand - automatic system updates will fail when trying to apply them to a rooted or modded system. Probably why you cannot auto-update.
My advice at this point would be to:
1) Since you just bought it, just do a factory wipe on it. That will remove all the stuff the prior owner had running on it and will result in a unrooted tab that should be able to get auto updates without a problem.
2) Un-Root it. Once the tablet is unrooted, the system should update without any issue.
As for your Play Store issues - I have never heard of or personally seen any issues caused with installing apps from the store on a rooted device. I have seen a few apps that will refuse to run on a rooted device - but that does not sound like your problem.
I would go with option 1 - just factory wipe the thing. Prior owner may have made tons of changes to the OS that we will never know about, and may have handed you a unstable system. Start fresh. Wipe it out.
Hope this helps you out! Let me know if I can answer any questions.
k thank you so much for the quick reply! I downloaded the root checker and it Is rooted. I did a factory wipe as found in the settings privacy tab when I bought it. That factory reset did not unroot and only cleaned out some of the aps on the device. Is there a better or more surefire way to unroot it? If I reset with the volume down key will it hard reset it?
Thank you for you help!
Draight
Okay.
I am about a year out of practice with my a500 - but from what I am think, if a factory reset still results in a rooted device - the prior user installed a stock ROM that comes pre-rooted.
I highly doubt being rooted is causing the issues you are running into.
At this point if you just want to get back to stock you can probably just install the Acer Recovery Manager from the market and use it to reflash a stock unrooted ROM. Or I see a few guides about how to manually restore back to stock over in the dev section for the a500.
Others will correct me if I am wrong, but I think Acer Recovery Manager should take care of your problem.
Hope this helps!
(Edit: Or you can just download the official stock 4.x rom (ICS) from the dev section and flash that. 3.2 is pretty slow and wonky in my experience, you should be able to just download a 4.x ROM and flash, since you are rooted. Again, I am way out of practice. Don't do anything before reading up!)
(Edit again: I think I was making this harder then needs be. Just flash any stock 3.2 unrooted ROM, done. After you do that the automatic on the air update should kick in for you and update you to ICS)
Thanks for taking the time to work with me on this. I downloaded the program you suggested and tried to use a stock rom. When i went to reboot I had a picture of an android looking up at an exclaimation mark. It was froze like that until I restarted it. Now its back to the way it was, rooted and unupdatable.
I'm probably going to try to just wipe it all over but do i need to plug it into my computer somehow? I dont have a usb connector for the tablet, just the wall charger plugin. can i just download a rom and use the utility to try install it? when I reboot it am I supposed to be pressing the volume button?
I've read a few other forums but usually they sound pretty intense...

Hmmm..
Try the thread I linked two in my second edit of my last post. You just need to grab the stock and unrooted 3.2 - put it on a MicroSD card as update.zip - then reboot with vol rocker and power switch to get the system to flash the update.
That *should* work just fine.
(Edit: Forgot the link! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1839313 - there you go)
Thankw, I am going to try it after readingna bit more. Do I need to have clockworkmod installed for all of this?

Nope. Just snag the stock unrooted 3.2 ROM - place it in the root of the MicroSD card as update.zip
Power down.
Power up with VOL + and POWER key held at the same time (you can let the vol rocker go when you see text appear in the upper left corner)
Should be all you need to do. Worst case; it does not work and returns you back to where you are now. Worth a shot.
If that does not work, let me know so I can do a few mins of homework and help you further. Been a long time since I have changed ROMS or had any issues with my a500.
I have bricked it twice by not following directions all the way or just making simple mistakes, but from what I have found there is always a way to recover.
Just tried it. I copied the boot zip to sd card and renamed update.zip and reset..It looked like it was going to download after showing some text in the corner and then an exclamation mark appeared above the androids head... I left it and after a few.min it rebooted back

Like I said, I am rather out of practice.
Someone more experienced them me: please help me point Draight in the right direction here?
Thanks for trying to help. =(
I wish that my tablet wasn't having such issues. I;m going to try to scramble around the forums and see if I can find some advice...If anyone has a suggestion please let me know.
Thanks again entropy,

Update:
So I've been tinkering around with it a bit more and I found a usb cord that plugs it into my computer. I keep finding boken links on this site so Im struggling to find an update I can use to flash to. I downloaded a different super user program which allowed me to temporarily unroot my device. I then restarted it and no root checker says its no rooted and I cannot find the superuser program. I think I have somewhat unrooted it -- but I think the real issue now is the recovery tool. I keep reseting it - hard reset, or factory reset and it wipes everything away but when i try to update it gets about 1/3 of the way up the bar then it stops with an '!' Mark above the droid. Im kind of annoyed at this point and hoping for some new links or some ideas on how to repair the recovery piece.
Draight
Go to the Dev section, and grad a couple of the ICS Update roms. You will see them listed for the a500. Make sure they are the FULL update roms. Should be about 3-400mb. These contain a FULL ICS Update Rom, and not a patch file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816560
Then, go to the Themes and apps forum. You'll see a sticky that has the Acer Update Decrypter.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869505
Now, unpack the decrypter, and select one of the ICS Updates. Then hit Start. Take a couple minutes, but you will have a duplicate file with the word "decrypted" added to it.
Wait, you are not done yet.
Using a program like 7zip, or even Winzip, open the decrypted file. DO NOT EXTRACT, just open it and pull the update.zip to your PC's desktop.
Copy that update.zip file to your Ext SD Card of the tablet. Don't be putting it in any folder, just copy it to the root of the card.
Now, you still ain't done.
With the tablet off. Press and hold Vol+ and then PWR. Hold them both untill you start to see text about installing blah blah blah, then release the buttons.
If it completes, and you can reboot into ICS, then you are good to go.
If something fails during installation, then decrypt the other update Rom file you downloaded, and do the same procedure. Usually one of the 2 or three should work for you.
Note these are for the a500, and not the a501.
One more thing. It's advisable you get your UID number before doing these things. You probably won't need it, but it's nice to have written down in case you need it in the future. Inf to get it is at;

I just decrypted both:
*Acer_AV041_1.054.00_WW_GEN1:
*Acer_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1
Both get get to the third bullet quickly and the bottom says DONE! It takes like 4 seconds. I don't think the Decryption key of $12 is working
[*] Opening file: Acer_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1.zip
[*] Decrypting using key $12
[*] Writing decrypted file: Acer_A500_1.031.00_WW_GEN1_decrypted.zip
I try to extract something from the decrypted file and it says the file was not downloaded properly and I should try redownload it...it says its not a proper archive
wahoo!
So that worked! I down loaded the file Acer_AV041_A500_1.033.00_PA_CUS1 and extracted the update. I palced the update on the sd card and booted with the power and sound volume pressed down. it went through the installation procedure and restarted twice before saying it was upgrading my aps and BOOM its got ICS and everything looks great. Thank you so much for your help and I hope that this paper trail is able to help someone in the future
My problem is that I'm on ICS and I'm rooted, but I just can't download a custom recovery. I've tried, and I haven't gotten anywhere
