1st off happy 4th of July to everyone and thanks to all the troops or anybody that has did anything to protect/fight for this country!!!! Anyways... I guess like everybody you are probably on vacation ETC... Well today at the pool I asked my wife to go pick up the towel and my PHONE and wallet etc is in the towels.. So here she comes and forgets my phone is in the towel and my beautiful phone comes sliding out and hits the concrete... SCRATCH!!! due to the concrete being a sand base poolside deal.. so all of that for this.. I have herd of solutions /fluids or something that can reduce the visibility of the scratch... if anybody has any ideas/recommendations that can help please send my way!!! Thanks!!

Does your plan support replacing the digitizer? If so, it's not hard and you get your phone back. Best case scenario.

Maguires who makes car wash and wax and what not makes a scratch remover products. It's used for headlights and what not but I used it on the sensor screen on my radar detector and on the screen to my transmitter for my radio control race car and it did a real nice job. You should be able to find the stuff at Pep Boys, Auto Zone, ect. And use a microfiber cloth.

I don't see why not. It's just a polish. You use a little at a time with a microfiber cloth until you are satisfied with the look. If I ever scratch my screen I will definitely try it. There are other options out there but the Maguires worked well and is readily available.

That is a plastic polish. We have glass, and not just glass, but super hardened glass called gorilla glass. I don't think that headlight polish would do anything.

You could try a super fine grit of silicon carbide or a diamond based polish, used for polishing steel. They aren't cheap though, and you'd be better off just replacing the screen for 35 bucks..

Actually, it's 35 bucks for any work. Even replacing the phone within the first year if you don't pay for TEP. The only thing they would turn you down for is lquid damage or a lost phone, or a screen crack greater than two inches.
So yeah. Just take it in, they'll put a new (well, used, if they have the part harvested) front panel and keyboard on.

this. the screen is a beast honestly. I'm actually having second thoughts about buying cases for it (one leather, one silicone gel). it's so light and thin it belongs in a pocket and I wouldn't put anything else in that pocket (change, keys, etc). In my opinion, for myself, I would never ever cover it up with a film and diminish the clarity, brightness, or touch sensitivity, however minuscule the difference might be my two pennies
ive tried to scratch it with keys and it wont happen same with a pocket knife.
this thing is TOUGH
I actually use the one that came with the Phone. U know, the one on the phone when it ships. It works great. I wash them in water, and shake most water off. I lay it on the phone with some water still on there. Not a lot duh, but enough to moist most of the sheet. I then use my credit card to flatten it nicely. It's great. And free. Oh, i also cut off the top right tab.
personally, I like riding bareback when it comes to phones if you're careful it's totally worth it.
99.9875% of the time the screen protector isn't necessary but then there's that ONE little thing that puts a scratch across the middle of the screen and it bugs me for the rest of the time I own the phone. That's why I use screen protectors.

Badass. I had to cut mine to fit inside of the slight chrome rim but totally worth the effort. I had the tmobile one on there and it looked like sh*t. Really degraded the screen quality IMO. Don't know why mine was over sized but it's all good now.
The video is in Japanese, but you'll figure it out.
First test...galaxy s in a bag with keys, screws, random metal, etc.
Second Text....nail / screw to the screen directly
Third Test...razor blade to the screen directly
Then they do several drop test.
I had a BestSkinEver protector on my G1 and my fingers didnt glide very well on the touchscreen. The Vibrant screen is very nice, fingers glide just great for Swype. Worried about putting a protector on it and losing this PLUS screen awesomeness.
For those who put a protector on, how does it feel/look?

I am now without a protector. I tried many times to get the finger print smudge off the stock shield but it just wouldn't come off. (on the sticky side, that touches the glass) I am gong to get the clearfreak.
What needs to be protected is that metal edge. I dropped my phone ONE TIME on concrete from KNEE LEVEL and now all four corners of the metal have ding in them. Under that cheap layer of gunmetal coloring is Chrome, wouldn't be surprised if the gunmetal just wears off from everyday use eventually.
On another note the screen and battery cover were 100 percent undamaged. Tough plastic surrounded by cheap metal, if the plastic is so fancy and strong, why didn't they just make the whole outer shell out of it? Geniuses.

That video was PAINFUL TO WATCH!!!! Good to know that our phone is pretty damn scratch resistance other than being struck by a direct blade attack as shown in the video. The guy kept commenting on how strong the Glass is. In the mix bag test, he says that the glass is clear. The pastic areas were scratched but the glass was okay he says. Btw, it's Korean.

Am I the only one that will take the time to routinely clean there incredible? I have a screen protector and a case on my phone. yeah the speakers have a paper cone and could blow out if you do a direct hit. for me i can adjust how much nitrogen is coming out of hose. just don't get it to close.
I got a couple of those monster screen cleaner kits that I got from work a couple of years ago that I use. Monster forgot to drill holes in the spray bottles so we were to to throw the defective ones away. The spray and the microfiber cloth work wonders cleaning the screen and the silicon parts of the case that get dusty. At retail of $20 a kit, its not worth it but if you can get it for less then I highly recommend it. Plus you can use it to clean all other plastic gadgets guilt free

Every once in a while I'll take off the back and dust it out. Mainly the camera lens cover, I'm always getting a ton of dust under it. I don't have a screen protector or a case and it is still in great condition. Can't say the same for the back of my iPod though, stupid chrome.

So the story is I accidentally dropped it on ceramic tile and it bounce a couple of times before it finally stop.
What amazes me is that there's no single scratch or dent on it; and everything was intact when I pickup the phone from the floor. And no, I don't use any case at all. Yay for NS build quality!
But I think I need to get a case since the back of the phone feels slippery. Or is there any battery cover replacement that made from rubber?

Telus sells the Casemate for the nexus S in store. it adds a little more bulk, but overall i'm very happy with the case.
You could buy a cheap InvisibleShield-like full body protector on ebay and just use the back part for grip.
It did make a dent at one corner after I dropped it from my desktop on to a 300W transformer sitting next to my desk
I droppes mine on rough ground and I got some scratches on the top of the device, put the tpu case and now I feel safe.

It's because of this I bought a "case-mate barely there" case.
I've never had a case before and didn't want one for this phone because I didn't want to loose the thinness either. Very glad I did though. The phone is still very thin and (on the black case) has a nice matt, slightly grippy texture which I personally find preferable to the standard backing.

is the touch still fully functional now ?
I see this thread and shake my head.
Getting a decent case is the first step to protecting a phone that you just spend a lot of money on. It might make it a little less thinner, but it will offer better grip and allows you stop babying every time you set in the table.
As for the dude that broke the glass, that was probably like the one weak spot. GorillaGlass isn't supposed to scratch or crack. Just avoid putting the phone in the same pocket as your keys and you shouldn't need to waste money on a screen protector.

gorilla glass is NOT scratch proof, keys won't damage the screen but dust will , the kind of dust/dirt that it's usually on people's pockets
I only ever keep it in a pocket without keys or anything else so never worry about a case.
The phone was on the floor next to my chair charging up while i was watching tv, knocked a fork off the coffee table and you guessed it, right on the phone.
No screen protector is gonna protect against that happening lol.
Everything is working fine actually. just feels a bit iffy when sliding over the long cracks in the glass.

#troll? I don't believe this.... drop anything aluminium with a reasonable weight from "neck" high and it will scratch or dent unless of course you are 1 ft 1"... I once dropped my S3 from about 20cm and it scratched too..

could have beena lot worse... a lion could had bite him
I've been looking online for good covers.something that won't make it to bulky and that wont take away from the look of the phone.
And no...there are no lions in the streets in Cape Town.

Unless it drops to contrete or marble, it doesn't always get stratched or dented. wood is forgiving sometimes.
I scratched mine by taking it out of THE OFFICIAL HTC CASE...not happy.
Like I said guys flat on a stone tile LCD down.no wood.just aluminium against stone

Sorry. You don't seem to understand the word troll/trolling.
Look it up on Urban dictionary lol But yes it seems unreal since people are scratching the phones even with care.
I like to see some good news rather than the usual doom and gloom. I was thinking about a case, but i hate cases. I came up with a plan for people in this situation,,,,,,,, carpet. If we all get carpet we wont have to worry about dropping our beautiful phones.
Great to hear your phone survived the fall buddy, i hate that oh sh*t feeling when you see something precious slow mo dropping to the floor
I normally kick my phone before it touches the ground, adding more speed and danger to the possible outcome

Was it the double dip or the double dip flip? I really want the double dip but all I've been hearing is stories about the case scratching the phone when you take it on and off....I switch phones almost every day, and I've heard it's a pretty tight fit and you can hear the case "grinding" the phone. Wish they would have put some "velvet" or something on the inside to pad the phone

I can totally believe this. I have had this phone for almost 3 months now and was probably amongst the first 20 people in the world to own it. As I am clumsy, I dropped the phone from my jackets top pocket (so slightly above chest height) straight onto hard wood floor and it made a horrific sound. Had the phone for a few hours and was in shock, picked it up and to my absolute surprise it was perfect, nothing, not even a single scratch or dent.

Thought it'd be wise to put a rubber cover on, if not to protect the camera lens a bit, the next day my boss knocks the phone outa my hand, slamming on the concrete floor.
Just had a little rebound.
No damage .
That was lucky, said I.
Mine fell 1 metre off the kitchen worktop on to a concrete floor face down, remarkably with no damage
