Phone is too slow after 1.6 to 2.1 android upgrade! - XPERIA X8 General

hey people
i'm not really a noob for android and phones but this problem makes me crazy..
after 2 weeks of google searching I decied to register here and ask all of you for help to make my phone faster
few of my friends have x8 and x10 mini and they are so fast compared to mine x8 :/
I bought mine x8 just month ago and first day when I connected my phone to pc, software was automatically updated from android 1.6 to android 2.1 .. on android 1.6 phone was really god and fast, but now, when i have 2.1 it's too slow everytime and sometimes is blocking really much and its makes me crazy ..
I tryed many softwares, task killers, bla bla.. everything, because I wanted to make my phone faster but i dont know, maybe that phone isnt good enough to work fast with 2.1 android like as 1.6 android ? or what ?
do I need wait for new software (3.xx) ? or do I can downgrade it to 1.6 android or any other way to make x8 faster (ups, that I call faster, that's not faster, it's just normal as all other x8's or x10 minis)
thanks a lot in advance

well root your phone and try any of the custom ROMs around here, i currently use floyo 0.30 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914513, its much faster than stock, and very stable, I also installed overclock module and setcpu which bumps things up even more.

My phone was very slow with 2.1 too. Now I`m using XGin by shpit, I think this is the best 2.3.x rom.

If you are really want to use the stock rom,i advise you reflash it using SEUS,don't use PCC.
I tried few roms,so far i found that floyo 0.20 most suitable to my phone,i am not sure why, maybe difference phone has difference hardware too.

I'm very new to X8 but a veteran of SE's + faffing with them.
My first X8 died on me, the touchscreen failed after 3 weeks. This came as 1.6 stock rom so I updated it with PCC to the 2.1 update 1 and noticed a slowdown.
My replacement fone came yesterday, already pre-installed as 2.1 update 1 and is a lot faster.
So like wc_how says id' try a repair with SEUS and see if you get your speed back as there may be a problem with the PCC flash or it didnt go correctly.
Or as the other guys suggest root it and install a custom rom, it takes literally seconds to root and minutes to prep and rom.

Well, I just recently updated my sisters x8 from 1.6 to 2.1 using PCCompanion, and the phone became more responsive, battery lasts longer, and everything is working perfect.
Try using any custom ROM (i'd suggest you FroyoBread) and report back, and if it's still slow, ask for a refound or a new phone
Even though, I must say that I can notice better responsiveness with my sisters phone using stock 2.1 ROM than mine with any custom ROM...

Shifted back to eclair 2.1

Hey all!
Brief introduction, just got myself a galaxy s a month ago....and shifted out from being a diehard hardcore winmo fan for the last 8 years! Android seems to be just brilliant and am totally loving it! Its a whole new OS compared to what ive been used to (winmo) for all these years - so yep, still exploring and figuring how things work on the internals
I've been trying froyo for the last month and it seemed nice in terms of the subtle refinements all across the os. However it still seems very unstable....overloading the ram causes the device to freeze, and then later it failed to boot...forcing me to restore factory settings. Finally, decided to roll back and give 2.1 a shot....and holy hell!!! its fasttttttt! Compared to our beta 2.2 build 2.1 is a world of difference! a lot more free ram available on the 2.1 build compared to 2.2 (almost a 100 megs more on 2.1!).
Anyway, I guess we'll have to just wait for samsung to clean it up and give us a stock 2.2 rom
same here... currently switching back to 2.1 ... 2.2 is nice, had JPC installed... has some cool new features and possibilities... but its still too buggy for me... today phone won't boot and i had to do a hard reset... this is annoying ... so waiting for the official realease of 2.2 and still looking forward to it
greetings from austria
aigolf
same here, switch back to eclair.
Although the 2.2 is a such pleasing experience over 2.1, it certainly is falling short on a lot of things for a daily phone. It also is being quite a pain in the rear while developing apps and trying them on the phone.
I quite agree with the fact that it would be much better to wait it out for Samsung to provide a proper 2.2 version.
Cheers....
Been using 2.2, now back using XWJM7. I have a good feeling about final version of 2.2 for SGS. I saw demos of Galaxy Tab using 2.2 on youtube, runs very smooth (almost same identical hardware with SGS). Expecting the same performance with SGS.
Samfirmware has just published their own package for JPC under the european FWs section. Do you think this could mean that all product code, IMEI, and other related issues with the KIES "leaked" JPC could be avoided and we can safely give it a try this time?
Since i got the phone one month ago i sticked with Eclair, trying several FWs for lag and battery draining aspect. Trying JM7 right now. Still have to find something fully satisfying.
Same here, I had JPC and Doc's modded Rom installed but still had a lot of FC's and it seems to me that the battery life is a tad worse than 2.1. Come on already Samsung! let's have the official Froyo!
Dont you just hate it when that happens
Seriously ?
I have had minimal problems with JPC.
Battery life has been massively improved, lag has been minimal.
The only real niggles i have had is the keyboard locking up a couple of times in the google search box.
Weird Huh ?
Exact same boat. Tried out Froyo and it was far too buggy so went back to Eclair. Waiting on Samsung to push out an official Froyo update.

Some people seem to be lucky but I've had hard-lockups regularly - my first install failed to boot after a couple days of use, I re-flashed and today had a crash/lockup, pulled battery, another one within 5 minutes of use, pulled battery, another one within 10 minutes of use. Only seems to happen when I'm doing certain things though, mainly web browsing / apps that render HTML, I played music on it for 2 hours straight with no trouble and games were fine.
Flashing back to eclair as soon as I can figure out which rom to use (I was on stock until JPC because I was happy enough with it and sick of buggy alpha ROMs from trying to make my 32B Magic more usable).
i have now jpc on my phone and works smootly
How to downgread back to 2.1, and where to get stock 2.1 firmware ???
wow!! this is by far the most active community ever i guess we have a lot of galaxy s users....and thats just awesome ;o)
im sure stock 2.2 from samsung should be really quick in comparison. 2.1 that im currently running works flawlessly and is also really really quick! I consistently have over 120megs of free ram...and when i clear ram it diligently goes back to 200megs free ram....always!
I think 2.2 has a load of memory leaks or perhaps a mismatched kernel...but seriously guys, its about time samsung gave us the stock rom!
They provide the source code, but they probably don't provide a fully stock rom because they don't want to encourage people to flash their phone unsafely.
JPC was terrible compared to JM7.
There are a few things I liked - the browser was making improvements, and high res cover art on the music player, and one or two other minor things, but otherwise, slow, buggy and annoying.
JM7 is the best I've used yet, WAY better than JPC.
I don't know about anyone else, but mine is staying that way now until a STABLE, FAST 2.2 firmware is out. Given how the 2.1 firmwares have progressed since it came out, I think I wont be flashing again for 2 - 3 months... I simply cannot be bothered with all this any more, all I ever wanted was for it to work properly in the first place. It is only because of this forum I've kept the phone as long as I have. I respect those who like to experiment, but I can't be bothered any more.
i'm staying with a clean install of jpc (SF Vers)
quadrant 1098
linpack 14.1
feels good to me
Tried 2.2 JP3 & JPC but 2.1 DDJG4 is far more better .. just rolled back to 2.1 its nice now..
Major problem with JPC for me was Exchnage mail reply block ... well repplied some official mails but recipients dint recd them ....
2.2 not ready yet for Galaxy .. We'll wait for Final release.
i have problems with zsjp2 and xxjpc, and both times i had used titanium to restore my apps. Even selectively restoring the apps, i do encounter problems of FCs, laggy, etc.
i did not roll back to eclair but did a fresh flash of jpc and discarded all the titanium backups. i did a fresh install of all the apps, and right now it is pretty good and smooth, and minimum lag encountered even without any lagfix.
of course eclair right now is a very much more stable rom, especially right now with the voodoo fix, it is indeed very tempting. however, after much deliberation, i decided to stick to jpc, until a new version comes.
p/s: my recovery had been downgraded to 2e and it does not require any signature verification at all, and all this is made possible by Leshak.

Keyboard Lag

Hi to all.
This post because I've always experienced some lags with any keybord ( IME, Swift, Gingerbread, etc )
After the installation the speed was very high, but after few days there were lags here and there.
Any advice? Is this behaviour common to you too?
Now I'm running Froyd Villain 1.6.2 ...
Thank you
Pich
Many people from what I have read they have this problem with gingerbread, I am one of them..
Beside the fact that our Hero hardware is old, we just need to wait until a better and stable release will be available..
Thank you for your answer.
Yer Our hardware is old ... :-(
Anyway I have a Froyo Rom, and the problem was present in Android 2.1 and 1.6 too...
It happens to me aswell, it annoys me alot, even overclocked to 710Mhz, obviously its not as laggy as 528Mhz but still laggy, so i think i am going to get a different phone like an iPhone

I found out that also depends on the rom that you flash, everyone phone is different.
When I used to have Android 2.2 with Froydvillain, many people in the forum said that it was awesome and that the battery life was amazing, for me was not, and it was terribly laggy.
After I switched to floyo, a new Hero was born, It was flawless and the performance outstanding, I didn't experienced any lag or issue and I kept it for many weeks...
So as far as I know, for me it could also depend on what you flash sometimes, I guess is just simple as that..
i use the handcent sms ...with the tasty froyo 1.2, and is also quite laggy...
being a rom flash addict, i have tried most of the roms posted here. only overclocking seems to help slightly, though the lag wasnt that bad on the original sense rom
Swiftkey with any AOSP/CM based roms works good for me
Yeah... I have the same problem too. I use HTC-ime mod on Elelinux GB rom, but it lags from time to time randomly.

[Q] What is the better For U & Why?

Hi,
I'd like to know the reason why is the better for and advices.
I use the MiniCM7 i like this rom cus has a lot upgrades my Xperia X8 works fine, but i feel its no the better rom for this mobile, maybe the CPU or RAM i dont know, but.. i think is better than 2.1 Original ROM from SE i used the Froyo (MiniCM6) and was great but i decides to try the MiniCM7 and sweeter, but slow in mobile... so
What ROM you use? Why do u use it? Is it the better? What is the better for SE Xperia X8?
Thanks! Guys!
I use Froyobread. Based on CM6(Froyo)
Reason?
Main Reason - Almost bugless ROM, very good for daily use.
Other:
CRT Animation/Glow - ppl will think I'm using Android 2.3 when they saw it
T-Mobile Theme Engine - CM7 theme for CM6 based ROM
easy to say, I use FB because of doixanh's special features there, (back button ends call, HTC Never-miss-a-call, etc). I know GingerDX got those as well, but I like CM6 more. Its smoother, faster, and really almost bugless, and good memory management.
I have tried stock 1.6 (before the big update), Eclair (unrooted and rooted)and now GingerDX V.6. A fact is that the X8 are not a terribly fast smartphone. It is fast enough for many things like divx-movies and not too complicated games. It´s like a cheap computer! You can do standard things but nothing too complicated and it doesnt do anything with an impressive speed.
I cant say that i notice any difference in speed between stock 2.1 and GingerDX. When the phone has been idle for a while it´s a little tired in a few seconds (Sometimes, not allways). But it was as tired when stock eclair was on it to.
I have 50 apps (and games) installed in my phone. Maybe there´s la difference if you have a lot more things installed.
Currently Im using FroyoBread v23
Why?
In GingerDX v010, after one night, my battery drains 16-20%
In FroyoBread, 6-8%
I did the tests with clean installations, original applications (Gmail, talk, maps, etc) removed and SD erased.
I have tested all top roms (fb,minicm,floyo,fxp.....) I am now using Kuyadroid v3 because its fast and great on battery, 1-2% standby overnight and 3-4 days with moderate use. I like DX roms and will prob switch to GingerDX later in development.
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
using gingerdx, battery drain is too much
Well I will go with Gingercruzt 7.4.
Why?
Coz of its faster than GDX and a combined mixed of SE application and updated feature not to mention the interface is so cool.

I'm not really sure, but as I remembered, my FB drains 0% - 1% from 0000hrs - 0900hrs. will try this night, and update the result.
Thanks for urs answers. I got i need question.
About the "core" in ours X8, What do u think? Eclair, Froyo or Gingerbread? Why?

[Q] Stock Rom or GDX 21?

Hey there ppl! Merry Christmas btw!
I've been using gingerdx pretty much since its first release, and i really like it, but im starting to think that my phone is quite slow for launching apps, or when someone calls me, the phone starts to vibrate and like 5secs later the call screen appears, and when i want to slide the green mark its kinda laggy.
And i started to think that maybe the stock rom wasnt that slow and laggy as gingerdx is resulting to me...
So, as i used the stock rom for less than 4 days, then i started with froyo, and so on, i want to know if its smooter and faster than gdx, because im finding it quite slow lately...
Also, if the stock rom is like ****, i would like to know any other rom that you are using and you think that is smooth and fast, so i can give it a try, or maybe some advaices to make my phone faster!
Goodbye! Thanks in advance!

try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363033
its a gb rom,but for me its really fast and i found no lags in it
Well, I can tell you my experience. I had been using GDX for a long time and I saw that multitasking wasn't something to brag of, you now. Music was stopping, web pages reloading and so on. Then I went back on stock. It isn't as bad as the majority of people say it is but still...after one week it started to p*ss me off. After that I installed FroyoBread which I'm currently on and I'm pretty satisfied. You should yry Froyo
Sent from my X8 that is soon going to be replaced with a Samsung Galaxy Nexus/S II
No so long ago, i went back from gingerbread to froyobread, and still it wasnt THAT better than gingerbread, thats why i was asking primary for the stock rom, because i thought that sony would develop something properly for the phone's capacity...
Ill give a try to dx froyobread one more time.
Goodbye!
Try the new froyopro..
Sent from my XPERIA X8 using xda premium
hmm gingercruzt 8.5 on nAa 08 kernel is very fast i m using it at the moment and its great
Which froyo rom should i try? i already used froyobread from dx a long time ago... Is there another? better or worse?
Goodbye!
Currently using stock rom.. i have no problems all my apps run smooth, battery ok. Im not a gamer on phone cause i feel upgrading only needed if i play games...
Sent from my E15i using Tapatalk
Im not planning to play games further than fruit slice and angry birds, thats all... All i want is a smooth and fast loading phone, is that the best for stock rom?
Goodbye!

Then you should Try 2.2 rom "FROYOPRO" But you have to modify it according to your needs like installing modules and google applications.
And for faster boot you have to change the bootanimation.zip with a lite one.

Recommend me a ROM

Hi, I am searching a good ROM for my girlfriend´s X10i. I have tried many but always I have been having problems. I´m on LOCKED BOOTLOADER
- First, I installed Feralab v20 for LB. But I suffered for random reboots and some slowdowns.
- Second, I tried JAF rom, but, like with v20, I suffered random reboots. I think my phone doesn´t like Ferakernel...
- Third, I tried X10S v8.3, first with stock SE kernel, and I had battery drain problems, then I switch to Doomkernel without overclock for LB, and I also suffered battery drainage problems.
- Forth, I tried stock SE 2.3.3, with bravia, sound stutter and FPS Unlock, and it gives me an error when trying to activate WIFI :crying:
- Now, I am with DiXperia v8 Extraordinary, Stock Version, but sometimes my phone is in the PIN access screen, like it has been rebooted.
So, I am not asking for something special, I only want something like offcial SE 2.3.3 rom, with basic functionality, but not as slow and laggy as that...
Can you help me please?

Yes, well there is a new stock based rom that was just recently released by a new guy that is supposed to very fast and stable, I just can't seem to find the particular link. Very similar to Achotjans Stock Replacement rom as I recall. Oh well, I don't know where it went. It was creating quite a bit of news around these parts. In all seriousness though, if you've tried 5 roms and aren't satisfied then bite the bullet and unlock the bloody thing and load Mokee KickAss v0.4. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1686110 It is CM7 based and should satisfy you and your Girlfriend. Very Fast. Very Stable. Look for the Soft Buttons zip in the thread and have soft buttons and a functional camera without the crashes of CM9.

I like Vasishta's ICS one... but for gingerbread I used the JoyOS1.2.2 Port (kinda like Iphone but a wonderful battery life: 2 days with standard battery 1500mah)
I think I have found the appropiate ROM. X10S V9!! At the moment, I haven´t had any reboots, or battery draining issues, like I had with X10S 8.3
what about Achotjan Stock Replacement rom? have you tried it?
I'm thinking about change my girlfriend's X10 as well. Locked bootloader too. But if i choose a problematic rom (reboots, battery drain) she will kill me.
If you want stock feel, super fast and for lockedbL and with no problems I personally suggest this one. after install go back and scroll down in the first tread and download one of the other homescreens if you don't like the one that comes with it(I don't practically do but you may)

I keep a backup of Donut 2.2.8 to load if I need to use zoom or macro. It is a very good rom. Attached is the Donut zip to flash in recovery for all of the various sounds.
