Whos ingenious idea was it to include EVERYTHING in the call logs??
We have messages received, sent, rejected, calls recievd, made, rejected all in one giant list.
And if you called or messaged someone more than once then those entries are repeated that many times. This makes absolutely no sense to me and a nightmare to navigate and find a recent number.
I know that you can filter that list, but its very cumbersome and not practical to do that all the time.
I wish the call log was just that - a calls only log. And it would group the same number dialed successively together so they don't eat up multiple entries.
Nobody else baffled by this?

No need to jump on the iPhone bandwagon, there are thousands of other phone that doesn't do this as well. If Apple gets so much right, then why are you in a Galaxy S II forum? Join an iPhone forum.
I very much prefer it the way it is

Please don't be a child. I love many aspects of the phone and enjoy it as much as I enjoy the iphone.
In my opinion there are quite a few things about the Sgs2 OS that can use some polish to make it a truly stand out product. Hardware wise seems as though Samsung have nailed it

Yes but the catch there is that there isn't a separate Home Screen and Apple Drawer so its only about organizing your home screen the way you see fit.
In android we have home screen organization and apple drawer organization which again is not neccesary.

Yeah but it isn't terribly useful when you quickly want to see the last few calls you got and this is what you see when you open up the logs
I agree .. the messages should not be there ..
The messages appearing in the call log used to frustrate me something rotten. I now use Go SMS Pro and the messages no longer appear in the call log. Perfect!

To me it just seems much more cluttered and slower.
The slower part really doesn't bother me as much as the cluttering.
Plus the "carousal" hangs too low allowing only a few apps to be seen at a time.
I expected better functionality not a "prettier" design.

The design really is awful. Some complaints:
1. Why isn't the full description shown? It's one of the most important things! And you only get maybe 12 words by default. Useless and annoying to be forced to hit "more" every single time.
2. The labels are just as annoying. Single words without a description would have been fine, we end up seeing more text about what a generic UI labels means instead of what the actual app you are looking at does.
3. Bring back the old tabs. Way too much information at one time. As you said it's cluttered.
4. Again like you said, the top carousel occupies up to 1/2 of the screen. Why?
That said, the new Market looks A LOT better in landscape. Still has a lot of the same problems but at least the huge space that the carousel takes up is a little more forgiving in that orientation.

So, others think the new market is flawed but their opinions are "stupid and crappy" and if they don't like the new market, they should "code one themselves" and "stop whining"?
However, you like the new market just fine and, of course, your opinion is not "stupid and crappy" at all.
Got it.
There are both good and bad on the new market. It seems like they rushed it out instead of trying it for a while to see if they even like it. I agree that not being able to see the whole description without hitting the more button is bad. The more button should be used to view the other less useful stuff at the bottom of the page like the developers email and similar products and not the product description that you are trying to view. I do like the new look, but do agree the carousel hangs too low and does not allow for more apps to be viewed on the screen. I do like the looks of the new market, but they could have done some things differently to make it a better user experience. I know that this is what it is and I will deal with it, but I do have the right to complain about the things I don't like. I will deal with because I have to, but I feel that a lot of folks are going to complain and that another update fixing some of these issues is imminent.

Change is good? There's good change and then there's bad change. I usually love any change - I don't love this.
Dear Google,
As much as I like change, this new market design is simply atrocious. Nobody is going to use the scrolling view on top, and it takes 2/3 of the screen. You tried to fit a square in a circle, and did so poorly. It reminds me of a xbox marketplace; just a bunch of graphic throw up. Now, I like having everything on one page, but why minimize the description? The most important part of buying and or upgrading is the description.
On top of that, the placement and order of the pages feel like a maze to me. There is no indication how far back you can go in the application without being sent to your home screen.
While I am sure this app will serve its purpose, I really do expect more from Google come next market update.
From,
A concerned Android enthusiast
How do i get it? i still have the old one...

Yeah and it's HORRIBLE. I had a date with a really cute girl who just so happened to be the daughter of one of my colleagues, and I was texting my buddy about her, she got one of my texts to him and cancelled the date on me. To make matters worse, she told her dad and he made a comment to me about it. Now, I'm always nervous about sending private texts to people for fear that they are going to go to someone else. It is completely inexcusable and needs to be addressed IMMEDIATELY.
Both issues are "inexcusable"
Although I will tell you that I've NEVER had the issue with ANY SMS program besides the stock one.
I've had consistent SMS issues with CM6. I really hope Gingerbread will have fixed these issues, but I have to doubt it.

Has anybody even experienced the SMS bug? Only 1.5% of users are experiencing this which equates to approximately 4,500. This is stemming from the daily 250,000 android activations so the bug is not THAT big of a deal. I think the press is the only reason Google hyped up it's urgency level. I don't even think it's a bug. I've noticed with a lot of android phones if you switch persons too quick in your messaging apps it picks the wrong person, which you wont notice and is where the whole sending to the wrong person goes.

Wouldn't discount its a "bug" but I also think its starting to get blown out of proportion. All of a sudden everyone has had an experience with a random girl and their boss / work colleague something dirty. Hah I don't doubt that its real, but the length at which this was "around" and now all if a sudden **** is raining hell fire. Don't discount its validity but maybe its severity. Clearly it isn't happening to everyone. And clearly it has become troll fodder. Everyone now has a "story" that sounds strangely similar .... :suspiciouseyes

I have come to the conclusion that the reason some users are having problems with their phones is this.....
ITS YOUR OWN FAULT!
Leave the phone the way Samsung intended it and 90% of you wont have problems
Dont get me wrong i was one of these people.....Got the phone...was really happy with it and then i started to work my magic lol! New launcher here, different widget there and so on and so on.
Ended up with terrible battery life and then with a phone that got so hot it shut itself down!
Since that time i have reset the phone and kept it completly standard...what a difference...battery last 2 days again and the phone is fast and cool!
So, moral of the story...leave it alone and just enjoy the phone as it is....if you dont you only have yourself to blaim
so endith the lesson

Its not the phone 90% of the time but the user!
Dont get me wrong im all for changing my phone to the way i want it etc but all it ever does is bugger the thing up!
If the phone is left as it comes out of the shop then the chance of problem is far reduced.
This phone has been refined so far that in standard form there very little wrong with it. Problems arise when we start messing with it to much.

You're making a sweeping generalisation based on absolutely zero evidence. The worst kind of troll.
Are the Orange FC problems caused by user error? No - KE2 firmware is bugged. Is the appearance and activation of Wifi sharing user error? No, its a bug. Is the unexplained battery drain and high Android OS use user error? No.
This thread contributes absolutely nothing. It only serves to aggravate those of us with issues that we're trying to resolve. Is it a great phone? Yes. But right now it had issues. You become an early adopter, you accept that. And you try to make the product better.

dont want to be on here all night but lets look at the obvious...Battery life
Numerous complaints about that
im no expert and dont profess to be but from my own experience when i had lots of widgets, different launcher etc installed my phone struggled to last the day. Since my reset to standard as of now the phone is still on 78% and thats after being unplugged since 8am.
Hang on (door slams). I'll just go and buy an iPhone.

I think it's odd how many people say the Note is too big, or you will look funny holding the phone up to your ear. I make at least 40 calls a day, and I do not use a headset, and not once has anyone said I look funny holding the phone to my ear. Maybe I do look funny, but nobody has ever mentioned it, or even looked at me funny. I think the first few days I used the Note, I felt a little weird, but now I don't even think about the phone size.
opps, wrong section, sorry

40 calls a day? You must be fame...
I live in Colombia and I'm traveling weekly around Latinamerica and here phone operators sell it as a Tablet?? People keeps asking me why I just don't buy a regular phone instead of using the "tablet" as a phone.

If someone doesn't want to get the Note because he or she "will look funny with it" and not because it's too big or any other actual reason - there's something wrong with that person, not the phone. Enough said

My opinion is exactly the same, people are saying different things but I think just because they are jealous.
I don't run one, but I am a busy guy in a big business.

It doesn't matter when it's big enough to satisfy expectations my friend
I agree w. OP. I am a Prof on a 3 campus university. I am always walking around them and the research labs. I have no problems with putting the Note in my front pocket, talking on the phone with it my ear, using it with one hand and of course being able to do email, schedule, find a room number of a meeting - all while on the fly walking w/ or w/o the pen and usually using the dead accurate voice commands and dictation - never get a strange look.
I use the note like a computer and get things done with such less frustration than past phones ( moving between touch, pen and voice and using allot of gesture controls for speed). I am on one campus when a crisis happens on another ( I am a Grad Chair for a Interactive CS school on one campus and Dir of another small program in Cog Sci on another), checking email and voice inputting a reply or room number or person to call - saves me hours of frustration if I had let the problem grow and not made a quick fix or alleviated with a quick email.
The phone is a godsend and the 'it just looks to big for me being on my hip bus in Manhattan with my hipster friends ( hey I grew up in Manhattan) is just stupid press BS which we have to read all the time. Although 5 million of us know better.

Years back, the smallest phone was the trend and if you owns a small expensive phone, you would be the talk of the room! But nowadays, large device/screens are the growing tend. 4.3-4.6 inches screens seems to be the most popular but I think it won't be too long before the majority of people would adopt a 4.8 or 5.5 inches phone!
Thing is we all like to browse websites/check emails/watch photos and videos on the go, and to be able to do this with ease, we need more screen space. The Dell Streak 5 was great but it was built with very outdated hardware/specs. Samsung definitely has won the consumers by making the Note stands out of the market with the S Pen and some top hardware specs.
