The best stable rom till now is streakdroid 1.9.1b7.
be sure to make to do factory reset from first recovery (the one with 4 options , for reset choose option1)
either use streakmod recovery / clockmod recovery. Do clear dalvik cache and clear cache partition after flashing rom .

Ok many thanks, does it look the same as stock 2.2? And does it run faster?

Yo Jitin, would you plz remove that link to the Beta's from this thread? much obliged,

I just tried the playdoh rom and love battery life. No glitches so far.
The ss1.2 was great and included su. I used setcpu to back off processor when screen off but it didn't seem to make much difference on battery.
Steve's 1.9.0 is awesome but I had a few glitches with it. Hoping 1.9.1 is the answer when testing finishes.

Yup..

I just flashed to the stable streakdroid 1.9 from the streakdroid site. Seems to be doing well thus far. The real test for me is if the battery life is much better than the stock 2.2.2 ROM that I have been running.

M just telling the best rom til now
Steve has not said that no one should spread his rom or spread his name
It is the best rom that u will also not regret
And is stabl

What's the best way to root my device?

My device was recently updated to 2.2 froyo using the qdl tool... I now would like to root it, but have no idea on how to. Can someone please point me in the direction on which would be the best way to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
What are you planning next? Which baseband are you on now? The version that the qdltool installs is 305 and you should upgrade to 318 if you are staying stock. If you are staying stock get to the version you want then root with SuperOneClick. There are a lot of threads about that.
If you plan on using one of the Streakdroid roms than go to streakdroid.com and read the guides there. If you install one of these it's pre-rooted.

I found z4root to be an easy rooting process for me.
First, thanks so much for the immediate response.
My baseband is 318. I tried oneclick and kept getting the error / failed message.
I do plan to stay stock for a while, but would like to try an unofficial rom sometime in the near future because I have two streaks.

Make sure you run the application as admin and usb debugging is checked.
Before you connect to your computer turn off, take battery out, restart.
Start superoneclick as admin, THEN connect to pc.
Goodluck. That is how it worked for me.
Ok, so after I eject the battery and replace it again, do I turn the phone back on at this point, or does it to remain off thru out the process?

The Streaks locked to AT&T never showed when they were connected by HSPA. Unlocked Streaks and the ones running Steve's ROMs do. HSPA is a faster than standard 3G so when you see the H it's a good thing.

Second that! Oh and yeah bad place to put this. Actually this question get's asked a lot, yet there is no definitive answer it seems?... I believe it is all about personal preference. MIUI seems to have a great balance of everything I could want in a phone and super user friendly customization. I searched a month for a rom... Tried most 2.3.x and while they all offer something and are greatly appreciated... I just so happen to like MIUI the best. Goodluck!
Cm7 is what many people go for, but if you google the things you can do in MIUI, then you will see it offers the most features. The non stock version that nickminn updates every friday seems to be better than any other 2.3.5 rom I have seen otherwise.. but they all have bugs, reduced battery life versus 2.2.x, and barely or non working gps.
The bugs I still had when I stopped using it a few weeks ago: media button on headphones doesn't work, if listening to music when you get a call and you answer, the music will continue to play, you have to restart it after charging(at least after long charges) or it will not go into deep sleep, and occasional sd card issues(my music player would too often not be able to find the music).. the plus side is all of the features: the notification bar being customizable and shortcuts to each toggle, the ability to theme EACH part of the UI individually, the built in backup/restore, the battery tracking, the device data usage app, the multi touch drag/drop and tons more.
Also I was getting 16-20 hours under heavy/moderate use which is the best I have seen on any ginger rom including cm7.. on ANY 2.3.5 rom you need to use cpu spy to make sure it goes into deep sleep to have good battery.
Hope this helps.. there is a large trade off using any gingerbread rom until we get the source code-- I went back to 2.2.1 because EVERYTHING works, and I simply can't kill it in 24 hours unless I TRY.. I get 24-48 hours per charge. I miss the features of MIUI, but not enough for the costs-- most of the differences between 2.2 and 2.3 is mostly cosmetic in the end.
I think he means 2.2 roms that look like GB. In that case, try Bionix 1.3.1. It should be easy to find.

that's like body kitting a car to look like a ferrari when you can just get a ferrari... sure the ferrari may get worse gas mileage, but it's still definitely worth it.

Don't worry bricking your phone is unlikely unless you do something silly and don't follow the guides correctly.

Welcome to the section. Check out the guides for rooting and installing custom roms on your phone. There isn't really a big chance of getting your phone bricked. Once you root it, you'll feel alot safer because the worst thing that can happen is a bootloop. (Which can be repaired!)

You've done the hard part don't worry its not broken. It should take around 5-10 minutes for first boot anyway so if its only been a minute or two and the rhythm of the boot logo is still turning smoothly and not pausing or restarting just leave it a little longer but if the logo freezes and restarts over and over this is called a bootloop. Easily fixed by rebooting into recovery again then select the wipe menu and wipe dalvik cache, cache and data then install your cm7 zip again. Everything should work then.

yes i can still get to clockwork recovery by rebooting into hboot and going through recovery, ive also got the super user app in my apps
Just check in hboot that you are s-off and as you can still get recovery you're good to go, remember to wipe dalvik cache, cache and data when changing roms, if its an update you might get away with not wiping data sometimes. You'll get the hang of it soon enough. Before you flash cm7 again just run the backup in cwm then if it goes wrong again you can just restore.

Sometimes you are just better off doing a full wipe as a sanitary precaution.
Updated earlier. Didnt wipe. Absolutely no problems. I actually never wipe from one version of CM to the next. I guess that's probably not a good thing. But, I've never had any problems.
