How does the Advent Vega stack up against the current Android 3.x devices? It certainly seems to have a design similar to the Motorola Xoom and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9/10.1.

I think its about the same hardware but in order to get the same performance you must have a device optimized firmware like they do.
So the issue here is making a good and stable firmware that can use all the Vega´s juice.
I'm unable to find clear images of the device, but it is a landscape oriented tablet. Does it share any similarities with the casing of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1?

It is much cheaper...
I guess it has lots of potential, but it's the software that's keeping it from using. If there comes a official 3.0, it is going to be a opponent for the other tablets, I guess...
Hmm. In my opinion the main difference is in the screen. It's no where near as clear as on the more expensive devices.

You think? I just think the screen is well, except for the view-angle. But anyway, when you are using your tablet, you mostly sit right in front, so its no big issue for me...

I'm liking the touchwiz on the newer samsung 3.1 tablets. Any chance it will get ported to the xoom? The newer touchwiz for the phones/tablets look really sleek alongside the widgets.
I sure hope not.
I don't think you would need to port anything, just drag over the appropriate files. It doesn't look as integrated as sense, and it runs on the stock 3.1 experience.

I dunno the new TW is pretty nice.
would be interesting if someone could get HTC Sense on the Xoom...
Touchwiz is terrible but I'm sure well be able to install on our xooms
samsung has said that touchwiz will be made available as a seperate download after they release the 10.1 so I can't see why it would be that hard to move over, at most just editing your build.prop to identify as a 10.1.

i for one can say that as soon as HTC releases a honeycomb tablet with sense UI, I will be ripping it out and trying to port it to the xoom...... same as touchwz ux. There is something to be said for running stock honeycomb, but choice is also a good thing
Why would anyone willingly subject themselves to touchpiss is a better question.

Oi Do you own a Galaxy Tab 10.1?
Or a Galaxy S II?
Have you seen let alone tried TouchWiz 4 on it? Or the new honeycomb touchwiz that is being prepared for the new Tab?
No no no no.
Thought so. gtfo

i have an sgsi9000, witch has been completely de-touchwizzed and that's the best thing that could have happened to my phone. However, as I previously stated some people do actually like the added functionality, even if it does come at a speed hit. As I said before its all about choice, and that is what makes android GREAT, we can do with it what ever we choose to. Android is about customizing the expierence to siut your desire, and not having to be stuck with what somebody else says is good for you. Apple already has that part well covered ;-)

Touchwiz 4 is not great on the SGS2...
It shouldnt need to be ported for it should ab able to be like an app you can install or something to honeycomb since google more or less told them they couldnt intergrate it into the OS of honeycomb.
xooms Honeycomb is vanilla. I don't want Samsung's wiz near my vanilla.

My understanding is that TouchWiz for the Galaxy 10.1 is different than the one found on SGS2. The tablet version is not integrated in such a deep way as the phone versions were. If I have understood other threads correctly, the TouchWiz for tablets will be as easy as installing APK's.

similar to what they said Moto Blur would be then?
they said that after the big 'google said that third party UI wouldn't be required after 3.0' thing - it was hinted that Blur would be cut down to somewhat like apk's and 'applications' not a UI...
I read that Fire will have a stripped/modified version of android. Would the devs eventually be able to load the full version of android on to fire? Right now I'm paranoid by the possibility of having limited usage due to the modified version of android.
Its got the Amazon interface, but it will be running over 2.3
Plus, amazon has said they will not stand in the way of rooting the device, so its very likely that within a month or so some ROMS will be out for it.
Speculators say that the specs have potential for Android 3.0
512MB of RAM = kinda sucks.
Same as in ipad 2

Completely different OS with a significantly different style of memory management. Apples and oranges.
Yeah but 512MB certainly isn't lacking, especially considering it's a device that's under $200. It would've been hard to put in any more and keep it at that price point. Also ICS is supposed to be pretty memory efficient.
Once its able to be rooted and loaded with custom roms I'm buying three. One for me and one for each of my kids. IM getting an Htc Flyer for the wifey.

A little caution here might be in order. The android devs are a wickedly creative crew BUT...until the AF is rooted (consistently) I would NOT presume it can or even will be!
Note how the Transformers were rootable up to the later B70 models. Then after that....nada so far. It's all about the SDK, bootloader, etc.
Wait and see if the AF can be rooted is all I say.
EDIT: Disregard.

No its a heavily modiefied 2.3 android. And putting full android ob there will break the cloud storage one has, and 6gb is not enough to have all the apps you want.

Steve Kondik said this on G+ on Monday November 21th : https://plus.google.com/100275307499530023476/posts/hVw7ykmsvrx
So the 10.1 will have its official CM9 support as expected...it's good news anyway but it's not to say we'll get ICS that easily.
Our options are two :
- the CM team offers official support to the 10.1v as well. Don't hesitate to mention our device in the G+ post I've linked to.
- we'll get ports from the 10.1 CM9 ROM.
Our device just can't die software so soon...
finger crossed
In fact, we've got this time the kernel of ICS. So the dev doesn't need to build a rom from scratch, like previous.
As you an see on XDA is that there "plenty" of New ICS rom, for example i've got one on mu SGS...
We just need a dev. And the lib for the 8mpx camera.
So cross fingers

Well, getting ICS will be late in February/March time (at least that was the timeline given.) However..CM9 is just a totally diff story
A Cyanogenmod developer would have to take up the cause and have access to the device.

The 10.1 will definitely have CM9 support (see today's CM blog post) but how to get an official 10.1v support, I wonder...
Wow... I had no idea this 10.1v model existed and just read up about it. If I had bought one of these I would never purchase a Samsung product again. Officially it was never updated to even HC 3.1 and still runs 3.0.1? WTF?
It's mostly done (and it's awesome), only non-working thing right now is the camera. There is a non-technical issue that needs to be sorted before we can release anything for Tegra2, though.

tegra 2 issue
I am a big fan of CM; and think this is what sets Android apart from Apple (infact beats the **** out of Appy...lol)
I am intrigued to ask though; when you say "non-technical" issue - hope this isn't a license/patent kind of issue?
I also heard, there was some issue with the GPU rendering? Is that correct?
Cheers.

Also to me it means that they were able to get the Radio enabled in ICS for Mobile Data, whereas it's still being worked on w/ the current ICS builds for the Xoom.
And hoping once it's up and running on the Galaxy Tab the port time to the Xoom should be minimal.

From what I understand from reading a few articles about this is that the 2014 date is for manufacturers to ship it pre-installed on the phone, whereas it is released next month for the Galaxy Nexus whether it be the source code or a prebuilt image, but as it uses the android kernel and drivers so I wouldn't be surprised to see unofficial ports in the next few months for many of the high end devices including the Note 2.
Why a fail? I'm interested in seeing it! And playing around with it! It looks pretty cool. I'm sure when Android first came out everyone thought the same thing, but look at how it flourished.
Sounds awesome to me. They are clearly struggling to get OEMs on board, so I think releasing images to let the modding community have a play is a great way to build momentum and gain feedback.
It's how MIUI got started, and I hope it works for Ubuntu.
With a phone as powerful as the Note 2, it's a shame it can't run anything more than android for docking & use with monitor/keyboard/mouse.

Looks very nice! I have been following there progress for sometime...They really need to get this O/S on board with OEM's in 2013, but like said I am sure we will see ports soon, hopefully for the N2!
