Im Retarded - Atrix 4G General

Im seriously retarded...
I have flashed CWM on my old SGS before and had no issues... I cant for the life of me flash it on my unlocked 2.3.4 though
The directions int he dev thread seem a little skewed... Can anyone PLEASE help me with an easy step by step guide in English?
(No offense to anyone)
Thank you!!!!

I seriously agree!

Can someone please point me in the right direction? Cant I just flash that zip file that CWM is in through the charging/ recovery way? (old way) :O

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138541

Directions seem fine to me
how to install:
Windows:
unzip recovery-en-goapk.zip to D:\ ## Unzip the file to wherever you want D:\ just makes it easy because there is no folders.
open a CMD in windows. ## And navigate to your fastboot directory. For example mine is on D:\Atrix\tools\
fastboot flash recovery D:\recovery-en-goapk.img ## Once you are in the fastboot directory type fastboot flash recovery D:\recovery-en-goapk.img or let says you unzipped it to C:\users\downloads. Then you would try fastboot flash recovery C:\users\downloads\recovery-en-goapk.img

I would say if you can't figure out the instructions you are better off leaving it be. Instructions were as clear as glass.

Firstly get the correct CWM recovery from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138541
Then ensure that your phone still shows "unlocked" when you boot up. If it does not install the "pudding" sbf through RSD Lite again.
Ensure you have fastboot for your OS , or better still have the android SDK installed (fastboot is in the "TOOLS" folder I believe).
Extract the recovery to the root of your OS. Usually C: and as it has a long drawn out name rename it recovery.img (must have the .img extension)
Plug your phone in via the USB cable and put it into fastboot mode by holding down the volume botton while powering on the phone. When you see "fastboot" appear at the top of the screen release the volume down mutton and press volume up once. You should see "starting fasboot protocol support".
Then using a command prompt get into the folder that you put fastboot in.
If it is in the root of your C: then type cd c:\fastboot
Then simply issue the command that goes with where you put the recovery image. Assuming you renamed it recovery.img and left it in the root drive that is C: then the command will look like this.
fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img
Then issue the command fastboot reboot
Hope that helps.

1. Drop the recovery .img in the same folder fastboot is in
2. Shift+right click in folder > "Open command window here"
3. Type in fastboot flash recovery recovery-en-whateveritscalled.img then fastboot reboot when its done
4. ???
5. PROFIT!!
EDIT: Oh, and of course you must be in Fastboot mode for this to work

[Q] MY HTC WILDFIRE bricked

i rooted my mobile using alpharev and it turned my s-off and installed clockwork recovery mod 3.0.0.6 ,later i downloaded cynogen mod 7, and while updating it hung on now it is not at all booting it just shows htc in boot screev and reeboots again and again pls help me
Go back into recovery, wipe data and cache and the reflash CM7
Its definitely not bricked, so dont worry. Firstly, make sure you have wiped all data in Clockworkmod (Wipe Data / Factory Reset Option, Wipe Cache Partition also Format /system under Advanced). Once you have done this, try reflashing the CM7 ROM File. It should work. Reboot into Recovery by turning off your phone, pressing Vol Down + Power, Navigating to Recovery, and Pressing Power Button on it.
If it still fails, it would be better to use an updated version of Clockworkmod Recovery. This solved the bootloop issue for a few users.

Please don't multi post. Update your Clockworkmod Recovery then. The guide can be found here:

I had nothing but trouble using recorver 3.0.0.6 . Recovery 3.1.0.2 amd 2.5.07 have worked flawless for me though.

could u pls tell me how to update Clockworkmod Recovery
- First, Download the attachment in that thread, Place it somewhere, like on your C Drive, in a Folder called Fastboot.
- Then, Download the Updated Clockworkmod Recovery (Again linked in that thread). Extract the Recovery.img file from within the Zip file and place it in the Fastboot folder created in the step before.
- Connect your Wildfire to your PC. Turn it off, and turn on in HBoot Mode. (When your phone is switched off, then Press Vol Down + Power Simultaneously. Then, Navigate to Fastboot using the Volume Keys, and Press the Power Button. Your Wildfire is now in Fastboot Mode.
- Then, Open Command Prompt, and put in the following. (I am assuming your folder is created in C > Fastboot)
cd\
cd Fastboot
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
(In the third step, I am assuming that the file name of the updated Clockworkmod Recovery is recovery.img) It will show two steps - Sending Recovery, and Writing Recovery. After this is done, your phone has the newer version of Clockworkmod Recovery and you can flash the ROM all over again and test.

Command Prompt is to be opened on your Windows PC. Not on your mobile. Once you have entered into Fastboot Mode and your Wildfire is connected to your PC, thats all you need to do.
Open Start Menu. Then Select Run. Then type "cmd" (Without Quotes) and Press Enter. This will open the Command Prompt. Then follow what I said before.
(Note - If your folders name is fast boot, then replace fastboot in the commands above with fast boot. It's basically the name of your folder).
Rename the IMG file you extracted to Recovery.img, it will typing the command easier.
Lastly, my only request to you - Make only 1 post at a time. Others here are normal members and not someone with the full day free . When you continuously post something, its frustrating to read and I dont feel like replying anymore to that person.

Dont worry about it. That was just my view.
Anyway, I hope the folder creation was correct. I hope that when you extracted the Android Win Tools folder into your C:\Fastboot folder, you deleted the original folder?
ie:, In your Fastboot folder, you shouldnt have any other folder/sub folder, and it must contain only these 4 files:
- adb.exe
- AdbWinApi.dll
- AdbWinUsbApi.dll
- Fastboot.exe
Once you have ensured this, then make sure you enter Fastboot mode on your Wildfire Correctly.
- Start HBoot mode
- Then Plug in the USB Cable
- Press Power Button, then another set 4 Options will appear, the first being Fastboot
- Then Press Power Button again
After this, try running the commands in command prompt again. Let me know how it goes.
And it you still face any issues with fastboot flashing, then see my sign for the post link to complete guide. Go there and download attached pc49img.zip and put it on your root of memory card (formatted previously with fat32 partition) . Then reboot to hboot menu to update the recovery. That's all.

Great, Hope they were followed by the words "OK". If so, you have the new Recovery 3.2.0.0 on your Wildfire.
Getting the hang of Fastboot is very important IMO. It helps flashing Recoveries in 1 go, and, also helps restoring Nandroid Restores, among many other features. I am glad you have experienced it, and, not gone the "PC49IMG" way.

It sounds like you have a PD15IMG.zip file in the root of your SD card. That's what the bootloader is detecting when it asks you if you want to update or not. Remove that file and it will bypass the update step and take you to the bootloader main menu. There you can select recovery. From there, I would re-download your ROM installation file, full wipe (data, cache, Dalvik-Cache), and re-flash your ROM.
I tried that
i tried that too but it still checks for those but then lets me select recovery but when i click recovery it gives me a picture of a phone and a red triangle thanks though any more help would be much appreciated!

I don't think you have a custom recovery yet, download the rom manager from the market and have it flash a recovery for you. When you go back you should see something very different.
If for you already have flashed the recovery, press the power button when you see the lil phone pic and your recovery should come up

google search androidSDK, and install it on your computer.
there are millions of threads out there telling you how to set it up so i'd suggest you read some of those. once you get adb set up, connect your phone (USB DEBUGGING ON! enable in settings/applications/development).
type "adb devices" without quotes to see if your device is connected. then type
Code:
su
adb reboot bootloader
the phone should reboot into fastboot, if it isn't in fastboot, manually scroll to it with the volume buttons and select with power button.
now, you need the recovery image, i'll post it at the bottom of this post. after you get the recovery image, move it to androidSDK/tools or wherever your adb/ fastboot folder is located, and rename it to "recovery.img".
now, type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
it should give you two OKs, if it does, then you're all set, reboot the phone into bootloader, select recovery, and flash a rom on there

ok that's ok, you can still flash recovery through fastboot, which doesn't need USB debugging on.
so steps:
1) download the recovery image and rename to "recovery.img"
2) move the image to wherever your adb/fastboot tools are located
3) open command prompt (in windows)
4) cd to where your adb/fastboot tools are located
5) REBOOT PHONE INTO HBOOT, THEN CONNECT TO COMPUTER
6) manually scroll and select fastboot using the volume and power buttons
7) type
Code:
fastboot devices
to make sure your phone is detected.
8) if it is, type
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
should give you two OKs.
9)once the recovery is in there, flash a rom on

please help

Rooted and Unlocked, will installing CWM format my device?

following some people's tips here to understand what the hell is going on and following this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIL1iTr5vto
i unlocked and rooted my phone, everything got deleted as expected and now i decided i might want to install CM 10.1 or another mod...
going into fastboot, navigating to "Recovery mode" and getting an error picture (android with red thing above his open chest) i realized
i do not have CWM installed...
1. no idea how to install it - since i did everything else with a tool that did everything automatically but not this, help
2. all the guides i've seen say this action too will erase my whole device..., is this true? and can it be avoided?

Flashing recovery only? Nope it does not wipe. If you wanna flash recovery:
1. Download cwm.IMG (place it where adb and fastboot is)
2. Connect the phone and reboot to fastboot mode
3. Open command prompt by holding shift and right clicking the mouse and selecting open command prompt here
4. Type "fastboot flash recovery NAME_OF_FILE.img

Hey kyokeun1234!
first of all ty for answering.
now im gonnna have to ask you to speak slowly so i can understand fast.
1.when you say "Flashing recovery" you mean "installing a costume recovery" - it being CWM?
2. how do i find ADB and Fastboot? since i installed it using a tookit i didnt manually place them. searching ADB with my file manager found a folder called "Android_Adb" (inside it i have power and Subsystem folders) but cant find "fastboot" anywhere - or do u mean in the same folder in the PC? - yet again, i do not have these files since i used a toolkit
3-4 will do after i understand 1-2.
after i do this, when i installed a mob (lets say CM), do i than lose all my data? and if so, if i use titanium recovery, will it install all my games+saves in a functional way on the new mod?
Don't use toolkits, it's better to learn what you're doing yourself
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
alright u can lock this.
all i needed to do is re-root using the same toolkit but check the V for custom recovery.
TY!

[Q]Manually updated to 4.2.2... Now locked out of adb and recovery. Help.

I'm in a bit of jam. I flashed the official zip from google to update to 4.2.2 and the flash seemed to work fine. I cleared both caches after the update
However, now I seem to be completely locked out of adb and the phone doesn't prompt me for authorization (the new feature in 4.2.2) http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...s-from-stealing-your-data-in-some-situations/ . I am showing connected but offline just like this article. I have tried multiple reboots (phone/computer) as well as different USB ports. I have not tried another computer yet.
When I try to go to recovery I get a red exclamation point dead robot as I assume the flash wiped TWRP and I can't reflash TWRP without adb/root.
I would like to try to avoid a complete internal memory factory reset from the rom which I'm not sure would work anyway.
Please help.

Fortunately, I was able to reflash TWRP using fastboot w/o using adb. At the bootloader, I ran
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
which got my recovery back up and running.
I decided to do a factory wipe and even after that adb was showing as offline and not prompting. I am very confident that your suggestion of updating the platform tools is going to fix my issue.
Thank you.

My Nexus 7 is locked on 4.2.2. I tried to Unlock with Nexus Root Toolkit and I get "adb offline". I did the command "adb devices" and the device showed up, but when I tried to unlock again, it gets stuck on "checking adb status". I updated SDK and copied the new adb.exe, fastboot.exe, etc into the platform-tools folder and it still doesnt work. So basically my oem is locked on 4.2.2 and I can get adb or the toolkit to work properly.. Is there a way to downgrade back to 4.2.1 or get the Wugfresh Nexus Toolkit to actually unlock my Nexus 7 on 4.2.2??
Yea, there's a way to downgrade if you have a nandroid and know what you're doing. The toolkit will need to be updated, and it helps to know how to do it manually first.

If you know the steps or can link me to a page, that would be much appreciated. I want clear steps.
Basically the same thing just happened to me. I updated to the newest android sdk then followed the steps here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
I had to restore the complete stock image first, then I sideloaded the update. I made sure all of my files were in C:\Development\sdk\platform-tools (thats the directory I used, yours may be different). Open a command prompt on the platform-tools folder and run fastboot devices, if you see a number there you are good to go. Just follow the steps in the link above to flash each file.
Why cant people wait..
lol

I'm going to try this. Can i just type "fastboot devices" in the command prompt and it'll work?
EDIT: I found a simple fix for anyone with this problem: CREATE A BACKUP FIRST, THIS WILL ERASE EVERY THING
1. Go into the platform-tools and open the command prompt by pressing Shift + Right Click.
2. Type in "adb reboot bootloader"
3. Then type in "fastboot oem unlock"
4. WALA! It'll take a while to start up, don't worry. Set up your device and that's all.

If you downloaded the new android sdk fastboot should already be in there

But with oem unlock, you'll still be on 4.2.2. This thread should offer good info on flashing, albeit for a galaxy nexus, but it should be mostly applicable for a nexus 7. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895

That's the point; we want to be unlocked and rooted on 4.2.2. I previously thought that in order to get an unlocked and rooted Nexus, I'd have to be on 4.2.1, unlock and root, then upgrade to 4.2.2 but that's not the case. I just unlocked and rooted via ADB since the Nexus Root Toolkit wasn't working for 4.2.2. I (and probably others) kept getting the "adb offline" error even after allowing USB debugging between the device and PC. Point is, if you're on 4.2.2 with a locked bootloader, you'll need to unlock and root using ADB commands. I don't know how many people have this issue but if someone requests it, I'll just post the steps on how to unlock and root 4.2.2 jelly bean using the ADB commands.
Re: [Q]Manually updated to 4.2.2... Now locked out of adb and recovery. Help
What if I'm on 4.2.2 completely stock but with an unlocked boot loader. I get the adb offline message when I try to root using a toolkit. How would I go about rooting?

Place su.zip on sdcard. Reboot in fastboot mode, probably volume up+down+power. In terminal on pc, fastboot boot cwm.img for your device, install zip from sdcard.

1. Download the SuperSU.zip from here: http://download.chainfire.eu/282/SuperSU/CWM-SuperSU-v0.98.zip and place it on your device in the sdcard. I'm assuming you already enabled USB debugging.
2. Download the recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.1.0-grouper.img from here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/v4hjsb4lse3dwtc/cwm6010touch_INSTALL.zip and place it in the platform-tools folder. Assuming you know where it's located on your PC
3. Locate the "platform-tools" folder on your PC, open it, and press Shift + Right Click & Open the command prompt there.
4. Type in the command "Adb reboot bootloader"
5. Then type in the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.1.0-grouper.img"
6. Now go to Recovery Mode on your Nexus and install the CWM-SuperSU-v0.98.zip from there.
7. Reboot the device once you're done and you have a rooted Nexus 7 via adb. Hope this helps.

For the Nexus 4 use this cwm image instead: http://download2.clockworkmod.com/re...0.2.3-mako.img
When youre doing the fastboot recovery, put in the name of this img file at the end. "fastboot flash recovery [name of the download file].img
