Can u upgrade the su binary if its built into the kernel? If so, how? I have su 2.3.x built into my kernel I'm using, and I have the superuser 3 beta. It keeps nagging me to update my su binary, but after it updates and checks the version its still at 2.3.x instead of 3.x.x. it doesn't sound possible since its built into the kernel.....could I somehow take it out of the kernel? (Leaked kernel, no source)

What tha **** UNLOCK NAND???? IN GALAXY S ??
No need for that in sgs and if you are on gingerreal with semaphore, that is already rooted and yes superuser is su.
Hello XDA,
I am currently running the beta firmware for the oppo find 5, X909EN_13_130531_Beta
I am wanting to install faux123 kernal, meaning i need to install a new recovery as im currently running the stock one,
if i do install CWM and install the faux123 oppo find 5 kernal,
what will happen when oppo releases a new beta firmware? will i be able to get the update? how would i go about getting the update?
thanks guys.
much appreciated.
I think that while updating to a newer beta, the kernel by faux will be simply replaced by the new stock kernel inside the update

Thats true stock will overwrite. Then you should be able to flash faux123 kernel over stock again, most likely anyways unless its a major upgrade to like 4.2 then I'm sure faux will release an up to date kernel himself..

Yep, and actually ... I keep saying this but, the best part about this phone is being able to get stock firmware updates via system recovery, stock or custom. When a new update comes out just download the patch or full zip file and put it on your phone, boot into recovery and flash. As mentioned your custom KernEl will be overwritten by the stock kernEl when you update. But.. both CWM and TWRP allow you to keep your custom recovery when updating, thus allowing you to easily reflash Faux123 kernel if you wanted!

there is already a guide to root the moto g4 plus with the official nougat update but it uses phh's superuser and app which hasn't been updated in a year, any ideas on how to do it with chainfire's supersu?
check this out.. (i.e install this custom kernel!) (I think this is required to install SU.. but worth a double check!)

If updates are the only thing blocking you from using phh's superuser there are beta apks available in the ohh superuser thread.
The boot is locked much tightly on Nougat, that's why there is no way of rooting it yet - there is the option to either install a modified kernel or to have a temporary root (disappears at boot). Both option have their own threads, no need to be discussed again here.
Does anyone know how to get it working with root? I've tried various kernels with both SU and/or Magisk, but it airways detects root.
This is on nougat with Helios 7.4.0 and currently latest Apollo.
Any ideas?

I think thismay be to do with me using a custom ROM? Is there any way to make sky go believe this is a legit version of nougat untouched?
Hello!
I'm currently using pixel experience with predator kernel and magisk v23.
Today i installed an update to the rom but i noticed that not only i lost my root acess but it also reset to the default rom's kernel.
Is there any way to update it and stick with my kernel and root?
Thanks everyone

Update rom, kernel and then magisk in recovery without wipe something, then reboot. You flash only the rom over OTA.
