New Firmware Update for Dock Out! - Eee Pad Transformer General

Just brought my TF with me back to work and there's a notification icon for a new MobileDock update! Downloading now, hopefully this will resolve the battery drain issue I'm hoping!? To be clear I did already update my dock to the latest when I first got it a month ago so this one must be a new update I'd think.

The update said "completed successfully", my MobileDock version says EP101-0209 which is still the same revision so that's bizarre. ANybody else get the same notification?

Wow figured there'd be 50 replies by now. Anyway since updating this 55 minutes ago I left my TF docked, lid open but sleeping, wifi enabled and just now woke it up and I only went from 36% to 34% which is good because I was losing 4%/hour when docked, sleeping, and wifi disabled. So unless I'm just imagining it on first glance it seems like it's fixed/improved with that update I just picked up! Will really see overnight tonight, last night I had wifi off and removed the dual battery widget cause I thought that was hurting (and I think it is a bit) and I went from 100 to 87 so we'll see overnight tonight what happens.

checked update, nothing available.

The EP101-0209 dock firmware has been out for a while now. It came out right before I got my transformer/dock and that was in May

Right but mine was already updated to EP101-0209 around June 5th, the day I got my dock so it was already on that one today when this notification came up, so that's why it's very odd. I did actually watch the download progress and it took a bit so it definitely picked something up, what it was I'm not sure.

To be REAAAALLLYYY optimistic, maybe they're getting ready to push out a new update and this was just a glitch.

Heh maybe, we'll see
Something else worth mentioning, yesterday I did submit a ticket to Asus just to point out the 3 things I had issues iwth that I'd like to see fixed and #1 I listed was the dock battery drain. Guess it's possible that they somehow pushed something to my dock to test a fix?

I just received a new dock firmware notification today too. This is my second firmware update for the dock.
So far I've noticed that the white light on the left of the keyboard is lit when the Transformer is charging.

Sweet so I wasn't crazy!
I'm charging mine now but no white light is lit, you sure your caps lock isn't on

I don't notice any new dock update, what region are you in?

United States. The oddest part is the dock firmware revision didn't change, but we definitely picked something up today.

Anyone with new dock update rooted?
If there is some tiny incremental update that fixes the charging behavior then I will go back to stock to update.

Do you have to be stock to get the updates? I thought you could just grab them manually, and that rooting just prevented automatic installation?

Last night I disabled wifi and disconnected my charger at 100%/100% at 12:30AM and I checked just now @ 7:45AM and I'm at 100%/88% so that's 1% drain per hour! I don't know for a fact but seems to me the update possibly helped with the drain because I was at anywhere from 2% - 4% loss per hour depending if I had wifi on or not and the dual battery widget running.

New shipment of docks fixed?!?

I was worried about getting the dock because of all of the drainage issues reported but i finally caved in and got one 4 days ago from amazon(direct for $149). Charged it up on Sunday and I've gone 2.5 days on standby (wifi enabled) with ~2 hours of active use and i still have 72 percent battery on the dock and 100 percent on the tablet. AMAZING! no custom kernal just stock rooted. Anyone else seeing this with a newer dock?
Any chance you'd read the SN off the front? so the rest can compare?
Same here. Though I have wifi disabled when screen is off.
Very interesting! Does Asus not want to admit it was a hardware issue and not a software issue?
Please let me know what is the model on the dock. We need to compare this to ours, if this is the case I can return mine and change it to one of this by Tomorrow... If only the new tablet models wouldn't come with the regular problems so we could return them... Oh one can only hope...

That is the same dock that I have, not that I have been having issues with it. But I needed to check.

I think you need to look at the serial number instead. Mine is B50KAS... his is B60KAS.... Mine does lose charge when I leave it over night, but I think it's because of wifi turned on. I can see my tablet on the router's page even when it's in standby and it shows level of signal.
Can you confirm that it also does not loose a charge when off/disconnected? If so, Im going to RMA mine with newegg, Im tired of loosing 30%+ when it should be completely off

Sure I'll turn off/disconnect tonight and check it in the morning
What's the firmware on your dock showing as?
I've got the B60KA as well. No hard drainings like the others described in this forum. Yesterday, 4pm @ 100%. now (8am) i've got 87% (wifi enabled all the time)
3.1 Stock HC, MobileDock Version: EP101-0209.
I got the dock from Amazon Germany at saturday (25th June)
Just chiming in, my dock is a B50.... serial and drains 5%/hr in standby and 2%/hr when the TF is off. 2 weeks left on my return window, so I'm tracking this thread
i have a b60k and my dock killed my tablet the other day when i left it on.
i'm pretty sure it has to do with wifi settings, since the transformer thinks it's charging when it's connected to the dock. i'll change it to turn wifi off when asleep tonight and see where it's at when i wake up.
B50 - heavy draining on standby and shut down
B40 also kinda drainy
B50 No drain
B50 same drain on standby with wifi and powered off, approx 2%/hour

UPDATE 0 percent drain overnight!!! Dock firmware is EP101-0209. I'm testing wifi on vs off today. Based on the feedback from this thread and the other relating to dock drain its starting to look for sure like it was a hardware problem that they've fixed in the most recent units that are shipping.
There appears to be two issues.
1. The TF can not distinguish between the dock charging it and being plugged into the AC adapter, and therefore keeps the wifi alive when docked, but off.
2. The battery management on the TF and dock is flawed in that it will continue to power the device until the battery drains completely. This does permanent damage, It should be disconnecting the battery at a level that will not prevent it from being charged using normal methods.

[Q] dock update

Just had a new ota dock update but still have the same number ep101-0209 anyone had the same or know what is for.
There is another thread on this same topic. The general conclusion was that there is no new update. It may be something wrong with the OTA update process. Even if a download and install was done if you your dock already had ep101-0209 then nothing changed.
I had the same thing, I'm the one that started the other thread. One thing to note though, before that mysterious update my dock was draining at 4% per hour with wifi off and tab asleep before, now I'm at 1-2% per hour with wifi off so something seems to have been fixed.

Sorry should have checked for other posts, mine was also draining whilst docked, will check to see if there has been an improvement, would be nice to think it was a fix they implemented in their lasted batch, that is maybe being fixed on the older versions.

Did you find out if the update helped with dock battery drain?
Yes mine is vastly improved I would say mine now drains about 10% in 8 hours with tablet docked and wifi left on. Battery life seems to be improving with more charges. As I said in the other thread on battery drain on the dock. For the features it adds for the extra £50 I paid bundled I can find no fault with the dock, it is superb value, addedbattery life,sd cardand 2 usb ports, brilliant. I can understand all the frustration with those who want the perfect notebookand tablet combo. Android has only just been approved by google for tablets let alone for netbooks, here you have a fast solid state drive device which works great for the first of its kind. I would be suprised if more than a few thousand out of the hundreds of thousand sold actualy get returned. I am gobsmacked by the rants on this forum, and only discovered my ipad had light bleed by sitting in a dark room watching a black screen, and that was after owning it 12 months, sheep came to mind lol. Asus have given us more than any other tablet manufacturer.
Maybe all these guys who are on their 4th or 5th TF should give up and stick to apple, where you can take it back every week under apple care
Perfect tablet ipad? whoops even that has light bleed, if you want to find it.
Let us know what dock models and country origin got this update notice? B5/B6? US/Canada/China?

ICS problem solved. Best of luck to everyone else.

Update - After 2 months I couldn't take it any more so I sold it and actually got a rating of "good". The other solution involved a sledge hammer. I can't believe they didn't notice the 1 hour battery life. More proof that quality control worldwide is going down hill. Apologies to who ever gets mine as a refurbished unit or parts from it.

Battery Life from 100% to 0%
ICS .11 & .17 - 6 to 8 minutes (Pic 1)
ICS .21 - 35 to 52 minutes (Pic 5)
ICS .24 - 50 to 65 minutes (Pic 11)
Bug count
RR & Boot Loop - once on may 14th after 2 months on ICS
Battery meter stuck at 100% - 4 times
Irregular charge and discharge cycles - lost count
Battery meter continues to go up a few % after charger is unplugged - lost count
Screen flickered - 8 times
Screen unresponsive / no input - 11 times
No sound what so ever - once
Irregular charging ping sound - lost count
ICS .24 - Finally got over 1 whole hour of battery life from a full charge.
ICS .21 - Since the 9.2.1.21 update I had it 4 times total, it's been alternating with another bug where it goes from charged to zero battery and shuts down the second I unplug the charger. The infinite power bug must only be triggered by OTA update because I tried reinstalling the .21 firmware. The zero battery "bug" could be the result of the infinite power bug allowing the tablet to actually stay on long enough to completely drain the battery. Since .11 update the charging ping sometimes stutters and sometimes plays half a ping and stops. Just had a new bug of no charging ping. The tablet and the sound was on at the time. Battery was at 82% and icon changed to charge mode but no ping sound.
ICS .11&.17 - battery drain from 100% to 0% in about 7 mins and charges up in about the same amount of time. Had this bug for over a month from march onwards. I first got the infinite power bug after upgrading to ICS, it's where the battery meter stays at 100% for hours on end without being plugged in for charging.
My TF101 is from the B30 batch.
I do not have the dock.
I haven't used the camera since HC and I just noticed there is dust on the INSIDE of my case after the "repair". There's no way to clean it except to open it myself. The trim is also now separating a bit from the main body on the top left and bottom left. When I got it back from the repair center it was just a little on the left side only.
Things I have tried
Downgrading to HC, but method was very old and likely not a complete downgrade as it did not work. Battery status wipe, Reboots, factory data resets, cold boots, changing various settings, etc. I sent it in for repair which was a waste of shipping costs. Emailed ASUS twice, response time is longer than 1 week. Calling is much faster but same results no one knew if it was hardware or software problem. After sending it in for repair the left side of my TF101 looks like it had been spudged open so they could have already check the hardware. Dragging around a 12FT extension cord is still currently the best solution I've come up with.
Thanks for making a dedicated thread!
Suggestion: Throw a couple more keywords in the title to help others find it. Eg: based on your symptoms, maybe add something like "battery meter issues, shutdown when unplugged from charger" or something similar.
did you try wiping the device?
I managed to pre order my TF101 a full week before the official release date. Now it's come back to bite me in the rear end cause my warranty is up today. I have the service number and RMA from march so maybe they will still honor it if it turns out to be a hardware issue.

Yep. Have you tried doing a reset and supplying a brand-new Google account, so that it doesn't immediately copy any old data to the tablet? (Or even just not supplying an account or connecting to WiFi / Bluetooth at all, so it's 100% stock)?
Has it ever had a custom ROM or been rooted?

The bug occurs even if no account is entered. Wifi, gps, bluetooth on or off it still happens. I had it rooted to overclock on android 3.2.1 I rolled back to 3.0.1 to unroot and get ICS, quite regretting that decision as it ran fine except for a few browser crashes which doesn't seem like a big deal now. I also tried downgrading to 3.0.1 from ICS, still had the bugs. It's running stock ICS right now and the browser rarely ever crashes.

How did you downgrade? It's my understanding that some methods leave the kernel Asus shipped with ICS in place, and hence aren't truly 100% downgrading...

That's most likely why it didn't work. I had the link to that guide saved but since it didn't work I deleted it. I'll have to wait for an official release or a better more complete method of downgrading.
I had a similar issue with my phone at one point. I went into cwm and wiped battery stats and it seemed to clear my problem up. I'm sure if it would work in this instance but it couldn't hurt to try.

I have sent it in for repair, no change. The left side looks spudged open so they could have checked, but no one can tell me if they actually did check the hardware. They ask me to send it back for repair again. If they did replace it with andother TF101 it could be a refurbished one that has other kinds of bugs and be scratched and in worse condition than mine. If they gave me a brand new one it could also still have these or other issues. I am waiting on official or better unofficial way to downgrade to HC.
If anyone knows more about the hardware for the TF101 please post your thoughts on what could be going on with these bugs.

A few days before ICS update I had 7 hours of use out of one full charge. I always shut down instead of sleep. Normal battery life is usually 6 and half to 7 hours and 15 mins. The combined total hours of use during the 100% power bugs after .21 was 4-5. If it is really the battery then ASUS is the stingiest company in the world cause they should have replaced it at the repair center when I sent it in.
has anyone suggested to clear your battery stats in clockworkmod (assuming you have it)

Galaxy note update notification 26th July

Hi
This morning 26th on my note I had an OTA notification. Since I had no Wifi, I cancelled it. Now, when I do a manual check, it says 'no updates available'. I already have 4.04 (XXLRG) from an update a couple of weeks ago so it wasn't that.
Any idea what it might have been?
Hoping for some Jelly Bean soon since I like it on my N7.
Nigel
Omg. Seriously hoping this is foreshadowing the release of jellybean for the note...
Come on Sammy!!
Most likely not jb but to remove search the phone capability

Pah!, it was just XXLRK, 4.04. It installed a load of rubbish without asking (all German due to CSC setting).

All can be removed
Video in hovering window still works.

Installing that much (really, any!) crapware along with updates is not cool...
But give me Jelly Bean quickly and I'll forgive you, Samsung.
So. Anyone know if this update fixed the battery problem many have? And fixed the issue of bricking the phone when hard reset?

Now now....can't use this without "value added software" because your user experience won't be as good
I got this update yesterday. However I can't find the apps mantioned here. It only said "Improved performance". I don't know what they mean. I have had the problems with the battery. I had to either pull the battery for a minute or two, or I had to switch on power saving mode right after charging and leave it on for some minutes before turning off powersaving. I had to do this every time I charged the phone, or else it would not go into deep sleep. It would stay on 200MHz, and drain the battery in a matter of hours.
However, this morning I saw (using CPU Spy) that the phone had charged all night using 200MHz (this might be normal. I don't know this). I tryed to just pull the charger, without doing the steps mentioned above. And i see now, a couple of hours later, that the phone has gone into deep sleep since I pulled the charger.
It might be too early to draw conclutions on this, but it looks promising so far.
I have found no info about the update yesterday. I hope its possible to hard reset the phone without bricking it now, but I don't know.
I will keep monitoring the phone, and let you know.

IIRC the phone doesn't charge during deep sleep, so clocked at 200 while charging should be normal.

I explained badly I think. I have used the CPU Spy for some time now, and i have seen that the cpu use 200MHz when it charging. Good to know this is normal. The big difference this morning was that when I took the phone off the charger, it went into deep sleep. It hasn't done that for a long time. Before the update, it went on using 200MHz after charging, when it was supposed to go into deep sleep. The only thing I could do to get it into deep sleep, was to pull the battery og use battery saver for a few mins.
I just hope they have fixed the brick problem when doing a hard reset too!

My phone updated to G930AUCU4BQF3 on July 10. Battery is <10% by 4pm. Previously, I'd still have 20% left when I plugged it in it's usual overnight charge at 11 pm. I also have apps launching on their own while the phone is not being used. Clear all running apps, set the phone down, come back a half hour later and 3-4 apps are active. A podcast launched itself and began playing in the middle of a seminar yesterday. I've not launched that player since before the update.
