Hi redhat37
Noob question:
"...you will receive a message via the software loaded on your pc stating when the upgrade is available"
I'm not aware of, nor did I receive any software with my GTP7100 10.1v that is loaded on my pc that will notify me as stated above, do you perhaps know what software samasung is talking about in their e-mail to you?

I think they mean on the tablet itself, as these devices receive over the air updates (OTA) and the tablet will notify you when an update is available.
To get the OTA update you need a Samsung Account on the device (Settings -> Accounts -> Add Account).
The 10.1v doesn't come with the Samsung apps - therefore you can't create a Samsung account - therefore you can't get OTA updates...
If you're comfortable with flashing a custom ROM - then http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155023
Well on my 10.1v, under "settings" -> "about" there is a "system update" feature. It seems to be connecting to some source on a regular basis to check for an update. Suppose that is where the update notification will come from...

They've probably gipped one of the 10.1v ROMs from XDA and are rebadging it

That's because Voda are supposed to be owning the 10.1v support - until they dropped it like a hot potato for the plain old 10.1 model.

This update procedure seems to be for the P7510.
I guess I'm hoping that the update for the P7100 will be available at the source where it connects to to check for updates. At least Samsung claims in the e-mail to redhat that they will be making the update available for the P7100.

As I sit here and wait for 2.2.2 for my N1, it occurs to me I know nothing about the OTA process. A quick search of XDA reveals some of the same questions but few answers. Here's some things I'd like explained:
- How does the rollout process work?
- Are they controlled by HTC or Google or Tmobile?
- How does the selection of IMEIs work?
- How are the carriers involved in the distribution process?
- Is country of residence a factor?
- Does the update process work faster over WiFi? Or maybe require a cellular data connection?
- What does *#*#CHECKIN#*#* do exactly?
- What does clicking Settings...About Phone...System Updates do?
- Is the signing and structure of the update package understood?
- Would I get an OTA if I had no cellular data plan (only WiFi)?
Can anyone point me to a thread/page/wiki that has these answers?

Google puts the update on their server, your phone checks in for updates every once in a while. If the Google servers tell your phone there is an update, it downloads it and prompts you to install it.

No one knows for sure. Seemingly random unless you have one of the "Holiday" Nexus Ones which seem to get preferential treatment to update first. Not always the case though.

Aside from the data being downloaded across their network, the carriers are not involved in any way with the Nexus One's update distribution.

I don't believe so. It goes off your IMEI and whether Google has chosen you.
- Does the update process work faster over WiFi? Or maybe require a cellular data connection?

That depends on the speed of your wifi or 3G connection. It is like downloading any other file off the internet (wifi will probably be faster).
- What does *#*#CHECKIN#*#* do exactly?

It forces your phone to check Google's servers for an update. But, if your IMEI isn't in the approved pool that the update is being sent to, it will NOT cause your phone to get the update ahead of time. IMO, the checkin code is worthless as you will almost always see the update file posted here long before your phone will tell you there is an update.

It may not have these specific answers, but is an excellent place to go before asking any questions here.
Oh, and one more thing. You have posted this in the wrong forum. This forum is not for questions. The forum labeled "Nexus One Q&A" would have been the appropriate forum to start this thread in.
I have a korean nexus and it got updates which slighty different from stock rom, i think it maded by kt itself, not google.
My opinion is thats because its a operator model. And yours t-mobile nexuse one wouldnt be one of the first wholl recieve ota.
Btw my korean nexus stll didnt recieved FRG83D
There are no operator models in the US, only Vodafone in Europe and KT in Korea have them.
The updates of the operator ones still come from Google, but they're delayed for testing/modification by the networks.

Yes, but I can't find any reason to NOT give the option to manually chceck for updates. I had that option in stock android 2.1 on the Milestone, so it can't be to difficult if Moto Europe lazy devs could do that. Am I missing something or it's just illogical?
Hm. Maybe google didn't want hteir servers to be DDoS'd when new update arrives

Hi Rusty, how do define operator models? I have FRG83D installed! Before that I had FRF91 (Vodafone)! Is my phone still a operator model? In which way does it effect the OTA process?
Unless you've deliberately made the effort to switch to the untouched Google firmware, you'll still have the Voda variant.
What this means is you will receive updates much later than the Google bought handsets, if you tried to install the 2.2.2 update (FRG83G), you'll find that it will fail.

it's really a hard work to wait OTA with google's official version. So I can't wait and just flash a lot of vendor room from the XDA.
the "checkin" seemed to force the phone to check update...
I've rooted my FRG83D, and received my 2.2.2 yesterday, but failed to go through the update due to not found carhome.apk which I deleted manually...
Hey Xoomers! It appears that wifi-only xoom owners are also having the updates pushed to their tabs also! I have not received it yet, but be patient, looks like all Xooms are being updated!
https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/380602#380602
could be an accident. looks like people over there are getting silenced about the update
From the sounds of it, this was meant to go out to their preview members only. I guess someone jumped the gun and didn't bother to let them know they weren't supposed to talk about it.
Which is only a guess, since the corporate rep on the forums has been very vague - only a single post with a "maybe" and then a bunch of posts insisting that people who have stated they got an update check their email.
I wonder if Motorola has really internalized the fact that there are, like, four or five other vendors for these tablets coming out in the next few months - many of them with very, very similar hardware. Not communicating with their tech-savvy audience seems like a poor way to convince people to recommend their tablet over others.
They need to share this ****!!!

This is pretty disappointing. The update obviously exists and works on the wifi xoom but google won't release it yet probably just to make Verizon happy.
Are people really going to go out and buy 3g xooms just because the update on Verizon came first.

Hmm Being in Denmark and having purchased a US Xoom Wifi I wonder what to do. (Stock 3.0)
So I did the following ...
Added a VPN tunnel to USA. (had previosly brought VPN access)
Set the date 1 day back, to let the Xoom look for updates.
" no cigar! "
Set the date 1 day forward (today´s date)
Still no luck -
I wonder if the update is really rolling out
Can Anyone confirm Xoom Wifi is really getting 3.1 right now ?
Is there Anyway to "push" it - (besides the date change procedure)
Have a good one

Not according to my conversation with Motorola today. Can you buy a wi-fi only from Verizon? Just wondering if those are still branded differently and that's why they're getting updates.
For now 32GB is plenty for me so I'm not exactly screaming for the SD card update. But I will be a little disappointed if I have to wait weeks for my update when Verizon got theirs already. There were several items in the list below that I was really hoping to take advantage of. I'm not exactly crying over the update just yet though, because I'd rather do the official OTA update than download directly like others have been doing. However, I will pre-qualify all this with...the rep I spoke with didn't seem to be the most knowlegable and appeared to be reading from a script based on the responses I was given to some other questions I asked. So take this with a grain of salt.
Ann: Motorola XOOM with Wi-Fi tablets and other variants of Motorola XOOM will receive the update within the next several weeks.
frost: will this update include the sd card support?
Ann: It does not.
frost: will that fix be implemented any time in the near future?
Ann: It's enhancements are:
● Enables movie services including Android Market Movie Rental via full HDCP / DRM support
● Enables support for full Adobe Flash 10.2 release
● Picture Transfer Protocol Feature Support
● Bluetooth(R) support in Gtalk
● Bluetooth(R) mouse support along with further Bluetooth(R) headset support
● Adding Proxy support for Wi-Fi network
● Resizable widgets
● Additional shortcut key support for Bluetooth keyboard
Ann: Yes. A future software upgrade will enable the SD card.

I went through [settings > apps > show system] and there's no "Wireless Update" in there.
I rooted the phone to disable ads a while ago, if whatever method I used disabled OTA's, could that be the reason I don't see Wireless Update? If so, does that mean I'm in the clear?

They will be back in stock in the next 2 weeks according to a consumer reports article. Amazon pulled them all to fix the security issue, and is restocking them. They might also be a BLU R1+ version released soon(which is rumored right now). http://www.androidheadlines.com/2016/10/blu-r1-plus-hits-fcc-likely-amazon-exclusive.html
I just hope Amazon gets on BLU for not giving us the official LET band 12 update yet. Maybe Amazon will pressure Blu to get the promised Nougat update out also. we can only hope.

According to ConsumerReports, Amazon is extending its return window for this phone. Anyone trying to return 4 months later? lol

I just returned mine after purchasing on launch. It was just a backup phone/extra Android device anyway.
