the nexus one has this infamous multitouch bug/problem bcoz of its dualtouch screen and im wondering if it already has been fixed with custom roms orso?
No and never will.
how does this affect gaming? like age of zombie or modern combat 2 black pegasus?
I dont play games on my phone but allmost anything that requires require mulitouch will be ****. I assume that these games would of course. Where as something like angry birds works perfect.
In air hockey games multitouch makes impossible to play, but in games that there is a joystick and a button it works pretty good.
how about 2 joysticks like in age of zombies and black pegasus?
If the analogue sticks are in opposite diagonals it does work.
Sill a pain tho :\
Most games alllow you to rearrange the sticks.
As long as they allow using trackball for one of them - you're ok.
As long as they put the joysticks in opposite screen corners (like Gun Bros, for example) - you're mostly ok (after the phone heats when you play for a while, the screen might do its "magic" once or twice, but it can be lived with).
right now i have the motorola milestone and im wondering if i shud replace it with the nexus one
motorola milestone doesnt has this problem but the nexus one is more powerfull and has more ram and so
what do u guys think i should do?
very bad
Stop asking the same question with different wording. You can't fix the multitouch with any software update, get a new phone if you intend to play games.

Anyone with a Nexus One,can check for any multi-touch issues themselves by downloading “Multitouch Visible Test” from the Android Market and giving it a shot.

£5 though, what a rip!
to be fair there arent many games on android to match gameloft standard. having said that i just installed real football and the passing and shooting is hit n miss....pardon the pun. anyone else had a try??
I saw NFS Shift popping in at google i/o, maybe that's what was planned?
Tried to look for it but couldn't find anything... they were demonstrating apps2sd on Froyo and showed a sd transfer for NFS shift, 50Mo worth of racing heaven...
Yer nf shift is due in June, making a big deal about it i think, will be good though

It's because the Desire doesn't really have multi touch, just pinch to zoom. Maybe Froyo can relieve this, but apparently it's a limitation of the screen.

thought as much. cause shoot/pass work better when you let go of control pad. cheers
i think your referring to the Gameloft games, but they were released on May 10th
Cool, i was expecting more tbh, well cheaper at least.
As far as the multitouch somewhere, with the new 2.2 update i think
i read somewere saying the new keyboard has mutli touch support??
So maybe it is a software issue.
I tried most of these games out and they are very choppy on the Desire. They are not optimized well for the Snapdragon processor. They work well on the Droid though, since the games were ported from the iPhone and both the iPhone and Droid/Milestone share the same Cortex A8 CPU.
I think the new games coming out are actually meant to be used on Android that has the JIT compiler. Would be nice to see some higher end games on Android.

there actually really cheap, i visited their US site, it said $6.99 but when it finally came to buying the game, it went down to $3.00, this applied to all games.
can anyone still download those games for the Desire from the gameloft website? apparently they changed that... or is it just me?
most of the games are only available for the Nexus One, and some only for the Droid/Milestone...

The Desire does have "real multi touch", the screen can register more than 1 touch at the same time.
The problem you're talking about is a hardware problem (Froyo won't fix it), which occurs when moving in oppsite directions simultaniously on the screen. Which is hardly used in games I've seen so far.
It is a problem in games which use two "virtual joysticks" in the bottom left and bottom right corner of the screen... like ToonWarzs for example. In that game, moving and aiming at the same time is quite painful on the Desire.
But I think its not a big deal. Few games actually need two directional pads.
And even if they do, the pads could simply be placed in the bottom left and top right corners, instead of both being on the bottom of the screen.
This would avoid the multi touch problem, since it only occurs when your fingers cross each others horizontal or vertical axis.
But Im not sure if developers will get that...
I now realize that the only thing my Captivate was better at was gaming. And not because of the screen. There's so many glitches in most/all of the high end games, making them unplayable. And its not just the multitouch bug - I dont hold my fingers down for that long. In modern combat every 5 seconds my guy turns around 180°. And in Dungeon Defenders my screen will bug out a just go crazy when I die. Which happens a lot because my guy moves like he teleports 5 steps in front of him instead of walking.
I though this Tegra chip was supposed to help? Especially because the dungeon defenders game IS a tegra game.

Can't play good games that I paid for.
Your phone is probably defective. I recommend returning it.
I really can't do that... this is my fourth one. 1st, gps wouldn't work, second a 1x4 area on top of screen wouldn't click, third froze up like my Captivate. This one has been perfect, until I started to get my old games that I had on the Captivate running, and found this out.
I'd rather not return it, and probably get a worse one.
Well tell me about it I went through 6 Atrix in 30 days lol but I am happy with this one now.
These games are being updated as we go along and they just don't support Tegra2 processors yet but it will be fine in another 30-60days or so.

Tennis no offense but these games are phone specific in many ways and you know this so complain tot he manufacturer for results not us.
Oh, so you're saying it's kinda like the AT&T thing? They advertise as 4G, but they're still working on it?
That would kinda of make sense I guess... so in future updates the Tegra chip will become utilized?
I have not had any of the issues you are talking about. Dungeon Defenders HD/Delux runs flawless on my Atrix. Do you have the most up to date version? And did you get the app legally or bootleg version?
Bought it through the market. Its the tegra version too.

I can't comment on Dungeon Defenders, but anyone able to play Monster Madness? That game lags like no other when I'm playing it. Biggest waste of money...
Maybe the overclocking will fix it, but still, you shouldn't have to OC.
EDIT: This is specific, but anyone able to get FPSe working (specifically FF7)? It runs great except for screen transitions/entering battle; it will slow down tremendously during these scenes. It's funny though, because my frames per second remains at around 60 even when the screen and sound are slowing down.

I play dungeon defenders, and it runs silky smooth on my phone. never had a bug. actually playing it right now. The only time I have issues is when the server messes up (not my problem................ or is it, AT&T/MOTOROLA, hmm?)
try installing the big file for Dungeon defenders manually from their website to make sure you have the right file
Hi all, i got hold of splintercell conviction hd , sandstorm hd and modern combat 2 today but ive had problems with all 3 of them i was just wondering if anyone has them working on there xperia play?
it probably was the sources i got them from as ive heard there are different versions of the games about but i dont want to go and buy them if there gonna be no better from gameloft. so im just checking before i fork out.
anyone else had similar experience?
black screen on splintercell
grey and black graphics on sandstorm and fails to download modern combat 2?
i dont think its my hardware as most games are fine.
gimme your thoughts
my problem is slightly different. I bought sandstorm, nova, asphalt, sparta for my htc evo 4g. Trying to get other games it says gameloft cant support my phone. Which makes me wonder if some kind of divorce took place after I bought my games, and if I am in somekind of limbo right now
mikzfan
I bought a few games when I had the HTC desire hd and just installed those on the play and encountered similar problems. Wrote gameloft and got my paid games upgraded and they work like a charm. Dpads and touchpads incorporated in the games ;-)
Regards Dousan...
e: when upgrading games to the play I had to download some extra stuff to make it work. (Had already copied my backup from HTC dhd to my play).
ah right yep the games must be coded slightly differently for the play cos of the pad... ive got another version of conviction here now which is working but not with the pad grrrr ... im gonna have to spend some dosh and buy the right version
ALSO anyone know if the play is multitouch cos it doesnt feel like it. i know its gotta pad so it doesnt really matter but on sandstorm using the screen i had to stop moving to aim?

ONe thing i do know about, lol, the play has multi touch screen AND touch pad, if u try the touch pad test software u can use 2 fingers on the pad AND 2 on the screen at the same time
Just a quick update... i bought splintercell and modern combat 2 and both work great using the pad controls,... I found out i had to buy the games to get the right version for the xperia play just a tip for other noob freebie hunters
Only problem I've had with some games is them not showing up in the Xperia Play games section after download.

Hi There Ive had the same problem with modern combat 2 dont know about the other 2 it force closes when i select it from the app menu, but I have got a way to get it working. This is on xperia play, for the downloading try restarting your phone turning the wifi off and back on and stay next to your wireless so you know youll have a good connection.
You try to load it from the app menu first and it will force close then hold the recent apps button and select the game from there and it will load it does still sometimes randomly force close though.
Hope this helps
If all else fails contact gameloft they take a few weeks for fixes like these but they will offer you a free game or something for the inconvenience.
That is good of them, I bought a game off PSN for PSP which wouldn't work & when I contacted them they told me it was my fault because I have a Jap PSP and they wouldn't re fund or supply a replacement.
i had the same problem with games not showing up... have you shut down and restarted your phone since u got them... mine show up. i think after a restart of the phone, not sure give it a try but mine are on the xp slide out list

Maybe consoles are a bit different but they should have allowed you access to a copy that did work for you if you paid for it. Or maybe that was just Sony as they get a cut out of every psn sale.
Yeah your right that is normally their attitude i was actually surprised when they did it and they done it twice for me bought nova 2 didnt work so they gave me assasins creed and spiderman free, then i got impatient for an fps so i tried modern combat 2 and didnt work either they gave me brother in arms free for this one. To sum that up i got 3 free games for 2 faulty games I bought and nova 2 works now since their update still waiting for a fix for modern combat 2 though.
I have a friend thinking of getting one of these phones and I wanted to get some opinions whether this is a good phone or a peace of junk

The games that are made for the xperia play are crap but you can run a lot of emulators on it that work really great with the hardware keys.
yes the emulators are great on the play
with a great gamepad
the games on the xperia play are just as good as on any other android phone
while there are better spec phones out there
the games for them can run just as good as on ours with chainfire3d
Lol ya except they cam play them without staring at fingers ad thumbs and only being able to see a small portion of the screen. Seriously though tell your friend if he likes game he will destroy everyone who doesnt have a play in multiplayer.

I'd recommend this phone for serious gamers only.
Especially those who love old school emulators.

I agree and also disagree . This phone has a nice big screen and playing the touchscreen games off the droid market works as well as on any other phone out at the minute. The game pad is just an added extra for me. I enjoy/play with the emulators & fpse alot but even if you forget the gamepad it is still a good phone.
After rooting mine and freezing the bloat. Nothing i have thrown @ the phone has caused it any trouble apart from some fpse games, but thats the same with most phones even dual cores ones. Nothing is perfect but this phone does an above average job as a normal phone with the added bonus of amazing game play on emulators or any game that supports the game pad.

I do agree it is a good phone but they should have put a much nicer screen on it. My Iphone 2G had a nicer screen. The Play's screen is impossible to use in sunlight. It's just a bit of a shame. Other things lacking would be HD video recording and a top of the range camera. But don't get me wrong, it's still good and I love it.
ps. what have you froze mate, just rooted myself cos I was sick of the phone stuttering and general choppiness on the likes of Gameloft games. Looking for ways to improve performance.

Indeed in full on sunlight its not the best but indoors i thinks it is really a fully decent screen.
About what i have froze i followed the safe apps to remove thread here. Just froze most on the list i dont use and froze some not sure about to test if the phones ok after freezing (still figuring out what i want to be frozen as well). Mainly tho the following;
Moved all gameloft/preinstalled games to sd via titanium backup (free)
Anonymous useage stats
Iplayer
chinese keyboard
both the digital clocks
everything facebook related
google maps
media server
postcard
retail demo
setup guide
store
street view
support
talk
anything timescape related
twitter extension
+ a few others i have forgot
But i have not filled my phone full of crap i dont use. Just kept the stuff i use regularly and will install others as i see fit. Currently Internal Memory: 161mb used / 219mb free. Ram: 120mb used / 254 mb free.
The Good -
- Hardware Buttons work GREAT with emulators. Honestly this is an emulators fan dreams come true.
- Hardware buttone work GREAT with Gameloft games. You think they are good on the iphone? They are 100 times better on the Play.
- Android Market Games are starting to work pretty good with the Play. Lots of games support the D Pad even if they dont mention it.
The Bad -
- Auto Brightness still cant be disabled as a stock feature.
- Low RAM means sometimes games stutter a little bit. (This is hardly an issue, but if you look close you can see it in some games, so it's worth mentioning)
- More games need to start appearing
Conclusion -
I personally hate using touchscreen for games. My finger prodding on the glass gets completely agitated to the point it drives me insane. The hardware buttons as controllers is an awesome feature.
You get all the Android software working excellently as you would on any Android phone.
It is a solid gaming phone, but does have room for improvement. The screen has an excellent display, but it's not as good as some phones. The auto brightness is a part of this reason.
Battery Life is decent. However it's unlikely you can last 2 days without charging. You will need to charge every night.
Speakers are very decent. The loudest on a phone i have ever heard.
Gameloft games are cheap and plentiful. Forget almost every other developer though, decent games other than Gameloft games are almost non-existent.
Basically if you love gaming and enjoy Gameloft + Emulators, then this phone is most definatley for you. If you dont care about gaming onphone and just want a quick touchscreen game every now and again, then go for something else. Either an iPhone or a powerful Tegra 2 chipset.
Gamer's Phone
The obvious reason to get this phone is the controls.
Basically, if you game on your phone, get the Play. If not, get something else. It really is that simple.
The controls rock. Emulators are perfect. Nothing better than playing old school NES or Sega games. The gameloft games run great, and lots of games in the market have support but dont mention it. I sit at work and play all day long.
The analogs work better than you think they would although it takes some getting used to. I
As a phone I have no issues. Its just like any other android I've had. Dont let the specs fool ya, its pretty quick, camera is good enough for me and I've only used the front facing camera once. It was fine. Mine came with a class 2 sd card so I bought a class 10. Made a little difference. Noticeable at least.
I like it.

I beg to differ, the iPhone 2g had an inferior screen.
The Play's screen may not be good in the direct sunlight, but it's still far from the worst. I have no troubles reading stuff in direct sun. Sure, colors go to ****, so pictures and videos suck, but as a phone it's still completely usable.
My experience is that the on screen controls are abysmal. Its hard to do 360s for starters. Navigation controls are pretty straight forward but can be rather non-responsive, particularly when you get into a hairy situation with trying to deal with multiple zombies. I dunno, I don't think there's anything wrong with my touch screen display but I've found the game to be mostly frustrating.
I really like it. controls not hard. 7in. Screen is perfect for these type of games. what I'm really luvin is Nova3. Especially on myltiplayer/deathmatch mode. Sonic 2 thd rocks. Mass effect great also. Wish storage size was larger so I could load all my games like I have on my prime. Only the best ones & emulators go on my nexus 7
Only thing I hate is the random 360 turns it does on me and I don't know where the hell I am.
From the Note to Nexus 7
Yeah, I thought it was just me.... The zoom is 0 or 100%, no way to go in and out, it either fires one bullet or a dozen it seems like, and movement is really goofy. Maybe that's why it's free now...

Yeah I get the same thing once in awhile as well.
As far as games go, it's o.k. - I enjoy it from time to time, especially due to the graphics. To be honest, my Nexus 7 game of the moment is Major Mayhem.
I use an OnLive Universal Controller, myself. On screen controls have always been a waste of time, so be glad that Madfinger was nice enough to integrate controller support, unlike most Gameloft titles. Keyboard/mouse support would have been ideal, but the difficulty level is fine for controllers.
Does it compare to popular console franchises like Halo? Of course not. But it's decent enough for a tablet game, and until bigger developers start producing AAA titles for Android, this is the best we've got.
Anyone have zero issues with this game? I was thinking the bugs initially were due to a defective digitzer on my n7, but having downloaded and played max Payne without any issues, I'm lead to believe that the game is at fault.

are they using the sixaxis app to hook the controller up?
Since they ripped off my dollar and threw Android under the bus, I can't say Madfinger holds much of my respect anymore.
But... This game is meant to be played with a controller. It was even demoed using the nyko android controllers, so that is by far the best way to play.

Dudes!! With SixAxis, you can make Android see it as a gamepad, so when you go to Dead Trigger, it sees that you have a gamepad connected and automatically makes your analog sticks analog. You just have to set the buttons to what you want.
No need for any special profile inputs. It's so insane. LoL!!
I will admit that all 1st person shooters on phones are a little hard and impossible to play. I actually wouldn't them if they didn't have that GamePad support.
How are people physically playing the game? It's looks like many of you are using gamepads.
I've tried playing it just using the touchscreen but it's very unnatural and awkward. Anyone out there using the touchscreen primarily and if so, any tips?
This game does lagg on my nexus 7....I can't actually play it properly so I uninstalled it.

Same here. Only see the 180-degree character flip in Madfinger games like Dead Trigger and Shadowgun. Games from Rockstar such as Max Payne and GTA III doesn't have that issue. Definitely controller bug in Madfinger code. Being that Madfinger made Dead Trigger difficult without better weapons and has in-app purchase nag to upgrade weapons I'm not surprised they intentionally introduce the bug to frustrate people into paying money for weapons.

Try going into Settings>Apps>Dead Trigger and clear cache, clear data, force stop and uninstall.
Go into Settings>Wi-Fi, click on three vertical squares, select Advanced, and set Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep to Always.
Set the Display sleep to 30 minutes.
Redownload game. A lot of crash and no sound issues with new game downloads are due to incomplete downloads.
The random 180 bug is a known problem with the unity game engine itself which madfinger happens to like to use. Its up to unity to fix it, and madfinger said on their Facebook that they were working with the unity team on it.

Come back to this discussion after you've tried out at least an xbox 360 controller.
On screen controls are lacking.. when you use real tactile controls that don't force you to cover up some of the screen, it makes it a different feeling device all together.
Any controller like the xbox 360 controller, Sony Playstation SIXASIS bluetooth, or any other wonderful controller compatible with our devices stock or rooted.
